Transmog Me Baby

trans·mog·ri·fy
 [ tranz móggrə f ]
  1. Change form grotesquely: to change the appearance or form of something, especially in a grotesque or bizarre way

I have not actively written about Transmogrify (yes,  it actually is a real word) because it's such a perilous market that you can gain and lose a fortune by one or two decisions.

In layman's terms transmogging an item change how players view the item when looking at your toon.  Whether it's a Chestplate or pants or a big hulking sword.  It is a change in appearance and not in the stats or abilities of the item.

This area of expertise is very dependent on how the server acts and functions.  Some players will spend thousands of gold to obtain a specific look (many times having to do with skimpy clothing for women or awesomely dark and omnious for the guys).   The important part is whether you have an economy that players are willing to spend obscene amounts of gold to look good.

As Mists of Pandaria gets older,  players are going to be looking for other things to spend gold on.  Mounts,  pets and just being able to strut around their home city looking actively awesome.  This is where you study and expertise will come in handy.

My favorite sites to use to look at how something looks  when it comes to the possibility of sales and transmogging is Wowroleplaygear.com.  Where many of the sets include BOP items,  the occasional BOE items pop up that are wanted for big gold.

One of my favorite items to still sell is the Black Mageweave Leggings.   For women it's black and skimpy and still very popular.  Also don't ignore the grey or white items that pop up such as Diamond Tipped Cane from bag of fishing treasures.   Where you might not want to spend the time to get the fishing quest done,  looking on the auction house might net you a good flip if someone unsuspecting added it cheaply to the Auction house.

So before you go and DE that weapon or that chestpiece,  take a look at just how it looks.  It might be something someone is interested in buying for their new look.  Every girls crazy for a sharped dressed toon.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

5.2 PTR: Transmog Me First

For many,  the Transmogrification market has been exciting.  On other servers it's been slow to dead
in the water.  Much depends on the availability of 'cool' items to change into.

With 5.2,  the restrictions on weapons is being relaxed.   Before you could only transmogrify a sword into another sword,  mace into another mace etc.   On the PTR's the have opened up the floodgates to allow
more options.   Swords can be transmogrify (yes I know it's not a word) into maces etc.

This means a good opportunity for profits.  Now would be an excellent time to start finding swords and maces with cool designs for resell.

Keep in mind that on the PTRs they still have the restriction for Polearms being transmogrified into swords or axes.   And as always with the PTRs,  things might change from one build to another.

If you are looking for a good site for models that can be used.  Check out World of Wardrobes to see what tickles your fancy.

The full 5.2 PTR notes can be found PTR Notes 5.2

Good luck and Good Hunting

They call me the Mad Hatter

During the Burning Crusades expansion,   a guild mate of mine had been running an instance with me.   As we were done and left the instance he had seen that I had a drop that I scavenged of the [Moldy Leather Pants].  This was long before transmog was a gleam in the developers eye.   Plus it's a grey pair of pants.  But I had looked it up and there was an unofficial set.   These were the times when the wow armory was being used extensively,  many times to people being pests about what people wore.   Some of my guild mates did not like this so tended to log off for the night with really garbage gear,   clown shoes,   torn pants,  level 1 weapons. Mostly as an inside joke to poke at the lurkers who judged everyone by what they had showing in the armory.

My guildmate approached me and offered me 100g for the item.   I too was working on the moldy set for my own comic relief.  And where it may not be purple,  it's not an easy drop to get,  especially if you seem to be looking for it.   So I politely refused and said even if I didn't need it I would feel ackward selling a grey item to a guildmate.   But if I found another set of them I would hit him up and send them to him.

Fast forward to a few weeks later to running shadow labyrinth for the umpteenth time,   another pair dropped.  I messaged him and said did he want me to mail them to him.   He said yes,  COD for the 100g.  I again reiterated to him that I didn't charge to guildees for items.   But he basically insisted on paying for them.   Later I found out that he had been planning on leaving the guild.  But that's not that important.  I collected my 100g from the COD and then just continued on my merry playing way.

Now,   if you've made it this far,  here is the reason that I told that story.   Transmog has opened up a huge branch of sales to people who want certain looks.  Tier gear or crafted gear that makes razor spikes,  or shiny chests etc.   But as I was thinking to myself,  self whats something that maybe people missed.   Then I remember the "Stylin'" set of hats that drop out of normal and heroic Terrokar instances as well as Cavern of Times instances.

Stylin' Purple Hat which drops from Blackheart the Inciter in Shadow Labryinth

It's a pimp hat.   What else can you say but it's a pimp hat.    The pattern only drops for leatherworkers
and all 4 of the stylin' set require cobra scales,  I've been generating a nice profit from the crafting and sales of this one.

Stylin Jungle Hat which drops from Rift Keeper and Rift Lords in the Black Morass instance

Another leather hat that looks pretty good on some sets.   I especially like the Indiana Jones theme with them.

The Stylin' Crimson Hat which the pattern drops from Sekketh Ravenguard in Sekketh Halls (if you ever run instances around there with me,  you will always hear me refer to it as sexy halls.

This hat has been very popular to sell for me.   Mostly because it stands out in a crowd.  With many people choosing to transmog into tier gear,  or starter gear.  This one just screams for attention.    Plus it's another pimp hat,  and noone says anything bad about the pimp hat.

Then there is the Stylin' Adventure Hat,  which the pattern drops from Dunholde Rifleman and Don Carlos from the Escape from Durnholde keep instance found at the Caverns of Time instance hub.

All of these are leather working patterns,  and they do sell.   Especially to Rogues and Druids since this is their armor specialization.   With the introduction of the pandas,  expectations are high for more sales.

The Leather is relatively easy to farm,  some shows up on the AH,   but the farming mostly happens in Negrand.  There are packs and packs of skinnable mobs there for the taking.   The Cobra Scales are a little bit trickier.  If you have a flying mount then go up to where the Twilight Serpents are in Negrand.   They are a low percentage drop,  but the re-spawn rate of the snakes are tolerable.   Plus if you get bored you can jump to the other side of the mountain and smack around some twilight mobs

Depending on your server,   you should sell 1 or 2 a week.  I've been collecting between 1800-1900 per sale,  though as always your server may vary.  Still if you pick up the pattern,  and add a few to your normal sales rotation you should gain excellent profits.

Good luck and good hunting

Patch 4.3's Long-Term Gold Implications

I don't know about you, but my post-patch sales are slowly starting to return to normal. Prices are still generally higher than they were before, but raw material prices are generally higher now also. I love addons and their ability to automate my buying and selling, but I also like having a more intimate knowledge of certain markets so I can watch for trends and plan farther ahead.

As I've been doing my daily gold-making routine, I got to thinking about the trends from past patches and what would happen in the near future with Patch 4.3. The more I think about it, the more I think this is completely different from any patch in the past, with the possible exception of Patch 3.3 and the introduction of the Dungeon Finder.

If you played pre-Dungeon Finder, you might remember the pain and suffering involved with forming a 5-man dungeon group. Spamming chat channels in the cities looking for a group, then traveling out to the dungeon, only to lose someone and have to go back for more people. It could take hours to find a group and complete a dungeon. Suddenly, you could queue for a dungeon and within a reasonable amount of time, be in the dungeon and completing it with relative speed.

Groups with an enchanter could disenchant gear easily, resulting in an abundant supply of raw materials. This drove raw prices down and set a lower average price for enchanting materials. While this phenomenon was largely contained in the enchanting profession, there were tendrils of influence that hit other professions as well.

Raid Finder and Transmogrification Change the Game
Fast forward to the present time and we're living post-4.3. The Raid Finder and Transmogrification have fundamentally changed the way people acquire gear and what they do with it. In the past, sharding gear was common. If it wasn't an upgrade, why keep it? Now, suddenly, gear is useful for appearance and not just stats thanks to transmogrification. I've been keeping more gear, especially on my leveling toons, on the off chance that I might need it someday for transmogging.

The Raid Finder introduced a new level of gear to the equation as well. Now, instead of running 5-mans over and over, people graduate to the Raid Finder to get better gear and earn some Valor Points as well. Because it's a 25-man group, it's rare to find gear that drops and no one needs. If not for a main spec, then for an off-spec.

Combine these two factors and you have far fewer enchanting materials entering the market, especially earlier in a patch's life cycle. This means prices will stay high longer than in previous patches, though they might still return to a more "normal" level. In the past, you could count on enchanting materials going down in price over time, but now they'll consistently grow higher on average over the course of an expansion.

Higher enchanting prices means more Jewelcrafters shuffling ore into jewelry for disenchanting. This means there are less uncommon (green-quality) gems available for transmuting into shadowspirit diamonds or rare (blue-quality) gems. Ore prices will rise as Jewelcrafters consume more ore in the shuffle. This, in turn, means higher gem prices for consumers as costs go up.

Combating the Trend
Moving forward, stockpiling will become more and more important for the gold-making entrepreneur. Stocking up in large quantities when prices are low will become a more integral part of our gold-making endeavors. Investing in storage space through alts with full banks, guild banks, or managing inventory by storing it in the mailbox can lead to large profits over time.

It will also become more important to find reliable suppliers at the lowest possible level of the production chain. Ore, Herbs and Leather farmers that regularly send you supplies will be invaluable in fighting rising prices. Just be prepared to up their pay over time or some other enterprising merchant might steal them away from you.

What long-range implications do you see now that we've had several weeks to adapt to 4.3? How has it already affected your business? Are you finding supply of raw materials to be a problem?

Patch 4.3 Preparation: Transmogrification, Darkmoon Faire, Chaos Orbs, Epic Gems

Patch 4.3 Video Guide

Patch 4.3 isn't out yet. In fact, it isn't even on the PTR yet.

We're gold makers though, and that doesn't stop us from preparing right now.

We relish in the idea of making 100,000 gold in a single patch and if you're anything like me, that's your minimum goal for any new content update. Patch 4.3, the last patch of Cataclysm, will be no different for us. We make our own goals because the game's goals are too boring. We make millions of gold because we want to, not because it means something to anyone else.

In the spirit of this attitude, a very popular gold making goddess has compiled a comprehensive 20 minute video covering the following patch 4.3 information:

  • Learn how to supply the influx of players excited by the new patch
  • Discover how to deal with an overstocked Pyrite market.
  • See the price curve of Chaos Orbs over the first week in patch 4.3, before it happens
  • Be able to take advantage of their greedy competitors
  • Get ready for 4.3 before the public test realm is even released
  • Prepare to value their BoP Chaos Orbs before they become unbound.

After watching this video, you'll be ready to prepare for patch 4.3 before most people on your server are even thinking about it.

In this 20 minutes video presentation, the author talks about which items will rise to the sky …. or plummet to zero value with the new changes to Darkmoon Faire. Underneath the Video, I have included a link to the PDF that you can print out and read along with the video. It covers the exciting new opportunity for Transmogrification, with a Secret Method to keep 100% up to date with fashions BEFORE they even happen!

Did you know that transmogrification is ALREADY happening on some servers, under another name?

Discover WHY your snatch list will be working hard in 4.3.

Get ready and prepare for Epic Gems!

I know you are going to love this new module.  This is truly awesome work, because it does not teach a list of What to Do and Where and How, but rather information on what will be happening and how to respond to it, and create your OWN gold.  You'll love it.

Did I mention it's a British Female's voice? Yeah, I think you'll definitely love this video.

The video is speculation and preparation for patch 4.3.  It teaches skills on how to get ready, where to find information, and what to do with it. It'll even help you out if Blizzard throws a curve ball or two.

Download the PDF and watch the 20 Minute Video

As always, updates to 20k Leveling are free for current members. If you aren't a member then you're missing out on these great tips and frequent updates! We will have a follow up video once 4.3 patch notes are finalized, which of course will be free for 20k Leveling members.
