Buy from the auction house:

Many people will tell you differently, but in my opinion, once you get to level 12 or so, and you have about 120 gold in the bank, it is time to buy some green items to make you stronger and level quicker. Buy items that give you a decent upgrade for little gold. So pay 2-5 gold per piece to replace a gray item, or sometimes you don’t have an item at all. Paying 20+ gold for green / blues is really not worth it for items that you are going to replace in 5 level s (3 days) anyways.

Guild rewards & random dungeon finder:

An overlooked way of earning a lot of gold, is to make a guild with 2 other friends. If you do a random dungeon, your guild gets 300 gold per run for this in the bank.  You can get this reward up to 7 times a week. For three people, this could earn you 700 gold per week, each. This gold goes straight into the guild bank, so you have to take it out of there (discuss this before you do so) If you are level 15 – 45, this is a very decent amount, and in any case you would / should do random dungeons.

The random dungeons help you level up quickly, and give you nice stuff to sell on the auction house and vendors as well. Running out of bag space? Buy bigger bags, 16 - 22 slots when you can.

Professions:

If you are wondering how to get those 6 gold for those bags, you probably choose the wrong profession. If you are leveling up, and want some gold, choose 2 out of these: herbalism, mining, skinning. Use them and these will give you instant profit. You sell the herbs / ore’s / bars / leather on the auction house for decent amounts of gold. Keep the skill up to your level, so you won’t get to a situation where you can’t pick that flower, or mine that node because your level is too low. Unless you have gold to back you up, don’t level up with a crafting profession, because it will eat up all your mats. Rather get to your target level (85), get 5000 extra gold, and then change the gathering professions for crafting professions. If you start from beginning with a crafting profession you will find yourself without gold, and stuck not being able to level that profession up somewhere in the middle. (This is only true for 97% of us)

There is also cooking, fishing and archeology. I always found these not really necessary, but these are nice to level up as you go, and will give you some gold, at least for daily quest rewards.

Did you ever wonder what you would do differently if you would have to start wow all from scratch? This could happen to you when you open a new account, a new server, a new region, or maybe you just want to give a newbie some advice. Of course my advice will include some tips on how to earn a decent amount of gold on the way as well.

Leveling is not as lengthy as it used to be, but it is still very long. Up till level 12 or so everything is great fun, but between level 13 and level 85, questing becomes boring as hell. Luckily these days you can easily use the dungeon finder to find a random group, and do some battlegrounds in between your quests. The road till 85 is still long, but it will give you a wide variety of content to enjoy.

Get started.

Up till level 5 you are in your starting zone, just follow the quests, vendor most items, don’t worry about anything yet, usually this takes about an hour only. At level 5 you walk to the nearest city, buy a mining pick / skinning knive and start the real game.

Hello folks! I'm Imperiexo from "News 4 Newbies." Since I began playing WoW while living in the desert sands of Las Vegas, I was left to figure things out for myself. My goal behind starting my blog, News 4 Newbies (#N4N), was to educate newer gamers on how to be Newbies instead of a N00B. Since the arrival of Patch 4.2 not too long ago, I have been “reconfiguring” my daily routine which I first developed after my main, Imperiexo, reached Level 85.

After first reaching the level cap, I began to level my reputations in order to get all the reputation enchants by reaching Exalted with each faction necessary for DPS. It was back in this day that I began to develop my daily routines which I will discuss in #N4N’s first installment of:

I made 7,000g 1-56 - Helpful Tips While Leveling

I've recently started up a very small mini side project, my task was to see how quickly and efficiently I could level while making as much gold as possible. I picked a Night Elf Druid to level and by the time I got him to 56 i already had a hefty amount of 6,800g. How did I do it? I'll give you some helpful tips on what you can do to help reduce leveling costs and help you make some gold while leveling.

Never Buy Gear. Ever.
I didn't buy a single piece of gear when I leveled. You should NEVER have to buy gear now adays; You can either acquire it from quests or through the dungeon finder. Spending gold on gear will save you some gold while leveling. Another tip: Never buy leveling blues/epics. They're useless after a couple levels so you're never going to get their full use. Just don't do it.

When Buying Bags Calculate Price/Slot.
When I first bought my bags on this toon I didn't go straight away for the Netherweave bags. I searched the Auction house and then calculated the Price per slot ( Price of Bag / Number of Slots = Price/Slot EX. Netherweave Bag : 14g/16 slots = 87.5 Silver per slot ). I did this to get the best bang for my buck, most of the time the 10 slotters were the cheapest at nearly half the cost of netherweave bags ( 30-35s/slot instead of 70-80s/slot ).

Vendor Recipes Are Your Friends
I hold these guys very close to me. They brought in a hefty chunk of my income while I leveled. I got my first 1,000g purely from selling every single vendor recipe around me from SW & IF. I also snagged whatever I could while doing dungeons/questing for even further profits. Rare recipes are your friend, some can yield as much as 2-5,000g. Always price check recipes if you're unsure if they're rare or not.

Dungeons Are Great For Gold
Why? Because you have the chance at obtaining rare recipes, rare BOE blues and sometimes even epics. I myself obtained a handful of recipes that sold for over 100g at the AH as well a blue or two that also sold for several hundred gold. Not only do you have a greater chance at recipes/blues but you also gain a hefty amount of experience and gear while doing dungeons. Do keep in mind that you're rolling on items against 4 other people, but with some luck you'll come out on top.

Find Niche Markets
Niche markets are great for starting out, I dabbled in a handful of markets, rare enchanting formulas ( Crusader, Icy Chill, Fiery, Etc ), Elixirs of Giant Growth, Elemental Water, Air & Earth. Niche markets are your friends, they have low competition while yielding excellent profits. Learn to love these markets if you expect to make gold while leveling

If you're having trouble finding some niche markets or niche items such as rare recipes, the undermine journal is your friend. Set up notifications and you're good to go.

Need starter cash? Gather.
Gathering was one of my best sources of steady income. Grab mining and herbalism and just gather while you level. You have no idea how much gold you can get for some of the herbs and ores; some can go for as much as 50g per stack! Gathering is an excellent way to net some cash; especially at those early levels where you're flat out broke.

Those are just some basic tips and tricks that I utilized while I leveled my druid. I hope and I plan on having enough gold for sandstone drake before 80. That's right, I'm expecting to make around 35-40,000g by the time I hit 80, and perhaps somewhere near 90-100k once I get close to 85.

Unusual Druid Gold Strategy in Moonglade

"I'm not sure if this works anymore but on my old server back in Burning Crusade I discovered druids have a unique bonus to gold making schemes.  I used this to supplement daily farming for my epic flying back then (sadly about six other people discovered it too and drove my price from 30-50g a pop to a tenth of that).  The recipe for Runed Arcanite Rod is sold only in limited quantities in Moonglade.  I would just teleport to Moonglade, check for the recipe, then take a leisurely flight to Thunderbluff (or Darnassas) and post it on the auction house.

Best Places to Power Level Someone

If you're going to powerlevel someone, do it in the right locations!

Here are my favorite power leveling spots in the game. The last three are awesome for having the person just sit there in xp range enjoying the slaughter and aren't as dangerous as moving through an instance (come on we've all lost a lowbie or two powerleveling them).

Dead Trolls in Eastern Plaguelands - Rune Cloth and Essences of Undeath
