One of the reasons I like enchanting items as an investment is simply because they are always in demand. Player demand is based on multiple ideas. Do I like what power this enchant gives me. Does this enchant go with the costume I've created (go go transmog players). Does this enchant have a super cool effect that
I like to see. All good reasons to get enchants, and even better reasons why people should buy your dust and your enchants.
Most dust (and essences) are going to sell simply based on where levelers are at. The Lower the level needed to craft/disenchant into dust, the less profit there will be. That was the general thinking up til now. Now we're running into an increased speed leveling, so many areas that were heavily used before will end up getting skipped. Areas such as Wintergrasp (level 55-58) and Shadowmoon Valley (67-70) are going to be either lightly played in or completely skipped.
So what does this do for enchanting materials? Items such as Arcane Dust and Infinite Dust are going to be not as available as they were before. Players burnt through their Infinite Dust supply quickly. Even now you see 4-6g per piece of dust. That will explode when you get players looking to level their enchants through Wrath crafting numbers (450-525). This is your bread and butter monies. The biggest hurdle is that the pricing of these dusts are already high. So finding deals will become more difficult as we get closer to MOP. Looking for items that fall into level 70-80 (for Arcane Dust ) and 80-85 (for Infinite Dust ) to DE into profits. When DEing wrath items remember, Weapons are more apt to provide you with Essences, Disenchanting Armor gives you more access to dust. Paying 9-15g an item could spot you a huge profit. This strategy isn't the safest and you could lose a tidy investment so be careful.
One strategy for enchanters is going to be Maelstrom Crystals from Cataclysm level epics. Where there will be next to zero demand for enchantments needed for these items. One saving grace that will pretty much guarantee profits. Enchanted Lanterns (or the Alliance equal Magic Lamp). These are going to be in high demand for pet battlers. Especially if you have the ability to send these over to the opposing side for resell. Where the investment can seem heavy at the beginning (Maelstrom Crystal at 80g a piece + Hypnotic Dust at 1-2g a piece). Just remember to buy the Maelstrom Crystal and shatter your own instead of buying the Heavenly Shards themselves.
Don't forget also many of the essence heavy enchants we talked about in MOP Prep: Enchanters Part 1. One of the big rare in demand essences comes from Greater Eternal Essence. This is one of those investments that is going to be tricky. The Greater Eternal Essences that are needed for the BOA enchants are in high demand already. Most players go quickly through the level 52-55 content so both the dust and essences provided from DE'ing these items are more difficult to find. Still picking these up and flipping them on the AH, or enchanting the BOA enchants will give you a good chance to make profit.
In all reality the only Enchanting item that isn't going to have a lot of profit is the low level dust from weapons and armor. Many new players will be dumping the armor and weapons from levels 1-10 on the AH for quick money. And the opening 50 points of Disenchanting are quickly gained from Enchanters Disenchanting their own items. This is the only investment I've stayed away from and just naturally acquired from Disenchanting leveled items from other toons.
As you can see Enchanting investment can be as easy or as difficult as you want it to be. If you low on funds look for high impact high turn around items. If your more adventurous spread your gold around and look at multiple areas for investment. Either way, there are profits to be made out there. Just keep your head above ground and ride the investment wave

Enchanting is going to be explosive for saving materials to resell. Many new players will want to enjoy the shiny glows to their weapons as well as an expansive power one or two good enchants will put on
their gear.
Levelers always look to get the best area for their gold. So having the materials to craft certain enchants ahead of time will allow you to be ready for the rush.
The general rule at the beginning of an expansion is that just about every enchanting material will sell for higher than what you paid for. Low level materials won't give as much profit, and high end materials will end up filling up space than bringing in gold.
First there are four patterns that are must have to be at the top of the enchanting game.
Enchant 2H Weapon - Agility
Large Brilliant Shard x4
Essence of Air x4
Enchant Weapon - Agility
Large Brilliant Shard x4
Essence of Air x4
Enchant Weapon - Strength
Large Brilliant Shard x4
Essence of Earth x4
Enchant Weapon - Fiery
Small Radiant Shard x4
Essence of Fire x4
Even if you do not have the Fiery Enchant pattern in your personal book. Buying the materials now and preparing them to resell will net you a decent profit. Plus the odds are the pattern will be on the AH quickly so you will be able to sell these as quickly as possible. The other patterns are gained through working through the quest line towards the Timbermaw Hold tribe. Obtaining Honored will unlock the patterns for purchase. A good guide can be found here.
BOA enchants are going to be going for large amounts of gold as well.
Chest:
Enchant Chest Major Mana
Enchant Chest- Major Health
Enchant Chest Greater Stats
Enchant Chest - Stats
Weapon:
Enchant Weapon- Unholy Weapon
Enchant Weapon - Lifestealing
Enchant Weapon - Icy Chill
Enchant Weapon - Crusader
Enchant Weapon - Healing
Enchant Weapon - Spellpower
Enchant Weapon - Mighty Intellect (Requires Thorium Brothers Revered)
Cloak
Enchant Cloak - Stealth (requires Centurion Expedition Exalted)
Enchant Cloak Superior Defense
Enchant Cloak - Subtlety
Enchant Cloak- Lesser Agility
The Materials for all of these range from easy to find (Small Radiant Shard) to Difficult (Righteous Orb). Keeping an eye on the AH will set allow you to both craft, and resell on demand of patrons when they put up requests. Both the AH and trade will be busy with players asking for enchants that can be provided at the press of a button.
Part II we will walk through each type of dust and shard that you will want to keep to resell and climb up the goblin ladder.
