Bring Out Your Pets

Mommar here.

I will admit that when Blizzard announced the inclusion of battle pets in the World of Warcraft universe I was at the minimum skeptical.   Warcraft is a beautiful if a simplistic game of its own.  It's as complicated as you want it to be and is playable at many levels.  But who really wanted to add Pokemon type action to the mix.   It would get a lot of 12 yr old kids wanting to play,  muddying up a lot of the ambiance that is found in the game.

Even with my questions on just how popular or annoying this addition would be,  an opportunity arose of buying and selling pets.   Even with the announcement that captured 'wild pets' wouldn't be tradeable I still had hopes of a very nice lucrative business opportunity.

Now that patch 5.3 is on us,  and many players are looking for other things to do.  Much of the rumbling on the boards are flipping maximum level pets for profit.  The same as when your buying weapons and armor at low cost to sell at a much higher profit.   It's a proven tactic that works over and over again.

But a major difference between armor purchases and the pets you can purchase is that you can level those pets to be worth more.   Even leveling a pet 5 levels from its original level.  Take for instance a pet you purchase at level 5.  Do a quick search on your auction house and they may flip between 5g to 25g.  Taking that pet and as your leveling a lower toon,  doing a few pet battles you have a pet at level 10 rather quickly.    Announcing the pet (especially if it's a popular pet in demand) in trade chat,   the buyers will be running for your wares.   Remember you can have 3 of the same pet in your book so instead of just selling one at a time,  have three to sell.

This becomes much more profitable when you buy a level 20 pet and sell it at level 25.  Level 25 pets are in seriously high demand as more and more players become uninspired with the day to day grind.   Investing a 1000g for the level 20 pet and selling for 25,000g or more at level 25.   There is a larger gap of time needed to level that pet to 25 but the profits are much higher.

Two places to look for information on speeding up this new profit machine.

The gang at Warcraftpets.com give you the top 25 pets in demand across a lot of servers.

Warcraft Top 25 Pet

The gang at Wowinsider gives a pretty good guide on how to level your battle pets faster than just meandering along hoping to get a good fight.

Wow Insider Fast Pet Leveling

Now remember your milage may vary when it comes to the profitability and demand for certain pets.  If you see 20 of the same tradeable pet in the auction house at level 25,  your profit margin will be lowered.   Same with the low end of the tradable pet market.   Demand can drive prices down in a heartbeat.

Still this is a good time to open up a new branch of your goblin gold making machine and try something new.

Good luck and Good Hunting

No Shirt No Service

Mommar Here (Aren't you surprised????)

Each warcraft profession has multiple side businesses that they can delve into.   Sub professions that can be just as lucrative as regular posting of armor and weapons.

One of these comes out of the Tailoring profession with the demand specifically for crafting shirts.  They offer no armor value,  but they score high on the vanity list.   The patterns are picked up from multiple places.  Some are trained while leveling the profession,  others are either vendor sales or rare drops in specific areas.

We're going to look at two specific ones to watch out for (there are multiple ones but these two tend to be highly prized).

Pattern: Rich Purple Silk Shirt is a rare world drop that is highly valued.   First the bad news,  it's very very expensive for someone to purchase this pattern.  Ranges from 3k all the way up to 25k are seen.   But every so often you will see it listed on the AH for cheaper,  be prepared to grab it at a moments notice (if you use Trade Skill Manager or Auctioneer add this pattern to your search list)

Pattern: Black Swashbuckler's Shirt is a much easier pattern to obtain.   The Vendor for this shirt pattern is Narkk in The Cape of Stranglethorn at coordinates 42,69 (inside the city).  It's a limited number pattern so if it isn't there when you first arrive,  wait for the pattern to reappear.

Other patterns of interest include

Tuxedo Shirt (Sold by Millie Gregorian in Undercity or Outfitter Eric in Ironforge)

Pink Mageweave (Sold by Borya or Lizna Goldweaver in Orgrimmar or Outfitter Eric in Ironforge)

Dark Silk Shirt  (Sold by Mallen Swain in Hillsbrad Foothills or Sheri Zipstitch in Duskwood

(Here is a link to the rest of the shirts that can be made:  Tailor Profession Crafted Shirts )

a 1 hour vendor run can net you the majority of this shirts to process and sell to others.   A few lucky breaks from listings on the auction house can net you a large amount of gold as well (most of the patterns are BOE so selling copies you have on the Auction House can add more gold to your scissors case)

This is one of the many side businesses you can build that specialize in low materials/high income depending on the demand on your server.   Shirts and by extension pants can be the money maker you're looking for to push you over the top.

Can I make Money digging old things?

Archaeology,  next to the first aid profession is considered a busted profession by many.   It's tiring,  tedious and has very little sales value.   At least for the normal player who just looks at the items they "craft" from the pieces and fossils and vendor them.

But a Gold Goblin can see a sale in just about anything of value.   In this case we are looking specifically at the buying and selling of race keystones.

On a weak server,  these keystones (one for all of the major playable races) ended up lingering on the AH.   Sales were weak on many servers (which is an understatement) while on other servers they were brisk and continual.

The major difference between the weak sales on some servers and the positive sales on others was the idea of downtime.   What were people looking for?.   Almost all of the items obtained from archaeology were Bind on pickup or Bind on Account items.   They could only be vendored for little or no gold (even the 100g vendored items were not worth the time taken up to collect.)

One bright spot was that players who had maxxed out both their archealogy and alchemist on the same toon were able to collect pieces and craft the recipe for Vial of the Sands.

The Vial of the Sands was the workhorse for many Archaeology/Alchemist combinations when it came to gold making.   Many servers had this mount/transformation item going for 50k per.   This is what is going to add a lot of money in your coffers in the next one to two years (this is the expected lifetime of the Mists of Pandaria Expansion according to Blizzard/Activision)

I've been a proponent of having big ticket craftable items in your gold making arsenal.  I'm sure many people think my preaching about the Mechano-hog/Mekgineers chopper has become tedious til they start selling two or three a month and add an extra 10,000 gold into their goblin pockets.   Both of these mounts will be important since many players won't grind out the recipes but will want the mount for themselves.  Rarity always means a premium in a seller run market.

So to answer my original question.  Yes,  you can make money with Archaeology.  With the right information and market place it can become a nice stepping stone to increase your profits.

Here is a link to a quick guide to Archaeology and how to level it quickly.
