Prepping For Darkmoon Faire

The Darkmoon Faire is less than a week away.  Not much has changed since the introduction of Darkmoon Island.  

With patch 5.1 there is an introduction to a few new pets,   a new battle trainer daily.  But most important this is going to be the first Darkmoon Faire that the corresponding cards will be upgradeable.

Every Darkmoon Faire since the introduction of the expansion has ended up with many of the materials used to craft the Darkmoon Faire decjs become highly in demand.   Herbs used to create become super scarce during this time.  From the Pandarian herbs used to mill out Starlight Inks to the cards themselves.  

This next week leading up to December 2nd your prime goal should be to both gather and purchase herbs for resell.  For Scribes,   continuing to do your daily Scroll of Wisdom creation will become paramount for your gold goals.

Keep in mind that upgraded cards will become BOP and non-tradable so unless you want to use it for personal use,  don't be tempted to give buyers and extra jump on an upgrade.

I'm continually asked what addon I use for most of my auctioning.   One of the addons I use continually is the Trade Skill Master addon.  One of the large benefits of this addon is both the shopping addon and the destroyer addon.  I use the shopping addon to get a good idea of just how much it would cost me for every ink i will use in a project.   It will give me an average price based on the cost of a stack of the item I'm purchasing.

The destroyer module makes milling/disenchanting/prospecting a one button operation.   This saves me time (and we know time is money) in production of materials for crafting.

A fair warning,   the entire module is very intricate and there is a high learning curve.   Reading the website,  the tutorials,   practicing and then reading everything again will keep you from listing items for 5 cents accidental.

In the next 4 days being prepped to sell the products used to create cards will net you a good chunk of change towards your gold goblin goal.

So be ready and prepared and let the crafting begin.

Limited Item Is My Favorite Word

If you survived Black Friday and Cyber Monday with your real life wallet intact,  the words "limited deal" are probably burnt into your retina.

It is really not that different when it comes to working with the auction house and items that are introduced.   The more rare the item availability ther eis,  the more chances someone will want to buy it from you with obscene amounts of gold.

The key is to figure out exactly where these items come from.   Whether its from a brand new dungeon or the Trading Card Game.  Players are always looking for new shining armor or weapons to impress the other orcs and humans.

Now before someone grabs the pitchforks and torches and explains to me that this is simple logic.   Making gold in Warcraft is all about simple logic.  You obtain something that someone wants.  A vendor wants your grey items for a set price.   A player wants to purchase your items from the Auction House at as low of a cost as they can.  Crafters want to purchase your items for their manufacturing at prices that will allow them to make more gold.

All of these are driven by consumers,   and that simple piece of knowledge makes the auction house less of a guessing game and more of a math problem.   Your 'limited' edition items should be in demand.   The knowledge base you have from expertise and reading/research is what allows you to know when that demand is strongest.

The other important part is to make sure that you know your market and your consumers.   A person who is looking for a light switch in the dark has a better chance of obtaining the light they need by knowing the floor plan.    Knowing the plan of server usage and customer traffic will give you the floorplan for your business to succeed.

So in the next week,  look at when players log on to do their dailies.   See the patterns that are on the auction house and get a good idea of just when your items should be posted to be at their maximum potention.   Remember,  making gold might seem like rocket science.  But it is more of a math trouble.   2 + 2 always equals 4.

Steel Negotiations

When travelling through the twists and turns of tradechat,  many times players will see advertisements to sell their Living Steel alchemist transmute.

This can be a lucrative business by itself.   Prices ranging from 200g to 450g using their materials.  It's a quick profit that doesn't require the use of the auction house.   But there are always a few questions that pop up from time to time.

If your a transmute specialist you have the chance of transmuting more than one Living Steel each time.   Many players will watch on their general category tab to see what is actually transmuted in the chance that theirs is an extra item produced.  In some players mine they feel that the extra item is theirs since it was their materials used to produce the Living Steel

As the crafter of the item you have every right to offer them the item they paid for and keep the proceeds.  Whether in a production setting 24 candy bars are produced or 36 candy bars are produced the price remains the same per candy bar.  The same with other options in a production setting.  The consumer is paying for the item itself.  

But there is a train of thought that continues to the idea that the buyer is paying for your time.  The production item is the reward for paying for your time.   As the Gold Goblin code says,  time is money.

The best idea is to make sure that you have this understood ahead of time before you transmute anything.  If you are barking in trade chat to sell your transmute,  use the idea that any extra items transmuted can be sold to the player at a discount.  They pay for the timer at 400g,  any extras would be available for sale to them at 250g a piece extra.   This may seem like a loss to some.  But in a highly competitive market,  any extra gold can add up quickly. (This applies specifically to Transmute specialists)

The other key to being successful in this area of sales is to keep an eye on the competition.   Players will start a quick bidding war for the transmutes.  Rates begin to drop like stone from 500g to 400g to 300g attempting to get a consumers attention.   Don't get caught in a bidding war so that you start to cut into profits.   Your baseline profit margin should always be available.  If you can get 350g profit from the auction house from listing your item,  that should be your cut off point to sell the timer itself.   Otherwise you are letting someone else dictate your profit margins.

Barking your Alchemist timer in trade can be very beneficial to your Gold Goblin Profit line.  Knowing the balance between profit and ease can put you on top of the negotiations.

Mommar Here (Aren't you surprised????)

Each warcraft profession has multiple side businesses that they can delve into.   Sub professions that can be just as lucrative as regular posting of armor and weapons.

One of these comes out of the Tailoring profession with the demand specifically for crafting shirts.  They offer no armor value,  but they score high on the vanity list.   The patterns are picked up from multiple places.  Some are trained while leveling the profession,  others are either vendor sales or rare drops in specific areas.  

We're going to look at two specific ones to watch out for (there are multiple ones but these two tend to be highly prized).

Pattern: Rich Purple Silk Shirt is a rare world drop that is highly valued.   First the bad news,  it's very very expensive for someone to purchase this pattern.  Ranges from 3k all the way up to 25k are seen.   But every so often you will see it listed on the AH for cheaper,  be prepared to grab it at a moments notice (if you use Trade Skill Manager or Auctioneer add this pattern to your search list)

Pattern: Black Swashbuckler's Shirt is a much easier pattern to obtain.   The Vendor for this shirt pattern is Narkk in The Cape of Stranglethorn at coordinates 42,69 (inside the city).  It's a limited number pattern so if it isn't there when you first arrive,  wait for the pattern to reappear.

Other patterns of interest include

Tuxedo Shirt (Sold by Millie Gregorian in Undercity or Outfitter Eric in Ironforge)

Pink Mageweave (Sold by Borya or Lizna Goldweaver in Orgrimmar or Outfitter Eric in Ironforge)

Dark Silk Shirt  (Sold by Mallen Swain in Hillsbrad Foothills or Sheri Zipstitch in Duskwood

a 1 hour vendor run can net you the majority of this shirts to process and sell to others.   A few lucky breaks from listings on the auction house can net you a large amount of gold as well (most of the patterns are BOE so selling copies you have on the Auction House can add more gold to your scissors case)

This is one of the many side businesses you can build that specialize in low materials/high income depending on the demand on your server.   Shirts and by extension pants can be the money maker you're looking for to push you over the top.

Players tend to find the easiest way between two points.    Whether it's getting a port to a new city from mages or having another person with a two person mount take you to a new spot.

But when it comes to us gold goblins,  we depend on the unmotivated players to buy items to use for
crafting.   Players either end up not knowing where something is found,  or not wanting to run all the
way to the vendor to buy it for themselves.   And all of this "convenience" comes at a price.   

These are sometimes simple items on the Auction House such as Plain Wooden Staff that is used to create the level 85 staves

Silver Inlaid Staff
Rosethorn Staff

Even in Mists of Pandaria these simple sticks will be used for the two upgradable staffs that are made by scribes (these staffs are bound to account)

Ghost Iron Staff  upgrades to Inscribed Tiger Staff
Rain Poppy Staff upgrades to Inscribed Crane Staff or Inscribed Serpent Staff

(The staves are only upgradeable by scribes,  but able to be passed to any toon on the same account)

Many times players will look for Dust of Disappearance on the AH instead of purchasing it from the vendor themselves.   This will undoubtedly apply similar to Tome of the Clear Mind during the Mists of Pandaria expansion.   Players looking to change glyphs or to change talents will want many of these items on the spot..  Convenience always equals extra cash from the Auction House and from players.

Items such as the Warbot Iginition Key that players can buy in Dalaran and the major cities at the toy shops are selling for 2-4x their cost from the Auction House.   All for the sake of convenience to the player,  and profit to the seller.

There is a long list of these items that you can resell for a profit.  Vendor recipes (check here for a list)
all the way to Techniques sold to scribes from Dalaran and Twilight Highlands.   Players pay a premium price to save time and effort.

An argument can be easily made that this is taking advantage of the players.  That gold goblins should not prey on the uninformed or the unmotivated.  But Convenience stores have been doing it for years.   Paying 2-3 dollars extra for your favorite adult beverage instead of going to the local grocery store.   How players decide to make their gold is up to you.   Caveat Emptor (Let the buyer beware for the Latin uninformed) must be the guide for your sales.

Bumping up your sales with these items can add a bridge to your other professions.  The bridge that leads to more profits,  and more enjoyment of the gold you make.
