Steel Negotiations

When travelling through the twists and turns of tradechat,  many times players will see advertisements to sell their Living Steel alchemist transmute.

This can be a lucrative business by itself.   Prices ranging from 200g to 450g using their materials.  It's a quick profit that doesn't require the use of the auction house.   But there are always a few questions that pop up from time to time.

If your a transmute specialist you have the chance of transmuting more than one Living Steel each time.   Many players will watch on their general category tab to see what is actually transmuted in the chance that theirs is an extra item produced.  In some players mine they feel that the extra item is theirs since it was their materials used to produce the Living Steel

As the crafter of the item you have every right to offer them the item they paid for and keep the proceeds.  Whether in a production setting 24 candy bars are produced or 36 candy bars are produced the price remains the same per candy bar.  The same with other options in a production setting.  The consumer is paying for the item itself.

But there is a train of thought that continues to the idea that the buyer is paying for your time.  The production item is the reward for paying for your time.   As the Gold Goblin code says,  time is money.

The best idea is to make sure that you have this understood ahead of time before you transmute anything.  If you are barking in trade chat to sell your transmute,  use the idea that any extra items transmuted can be sold to the player at a discount.  They pay for the timer at 400g,  any extras would be available for sale to them at 250g a piece extra.   This may seem like a loss to some.  But in a highly competitive market,  any extra gold can add up quickly. (This applies specifically to Transmute specialists)

The other key to being successful in this area of sales is to keep an eye on the competition.   Players will start a quick bidding war for the transmutes.  Rates begin to drop like stone from 500g to 400g to 300g attempting to get a consumers attention.   Don't get caught in a bidding war so that you start to cut into profits.   Your baseline profit margin should always be available.  If you can get 350g profit from the auction house from listing your item,  that should be your cut off point to sell the timer itself.   Otherwise you are letting someone else dictate your profit margins.

Barking your Alchemist timer in trade can be very beneficial to your Gold Goblin Profit line.  Knowing the balance between profit and ease can put you on top of the negotiations.

Blizzard hates alchemist.....

Mommar here.

With the patch of 4.03 there was a big change with the transmutation speciality.  Up to the patch release last week it required 4 Truegold transmutes to finish the quest.   While there was nothing in the patch notes there was a change that required now 4 living steel to finish the quest line.

The obvious problem is that Living Steel is not available til the doors to Mists of Pandaria open in three weeks.  This leaves a lot of planned alchemist levelers at a loss for words.   Many players were working on their army of the Transmutation alchemist to take advantage of the demand for transmutes on the open market (those that used their  Truegold transmute gained a lot of gold from just selling the timer itself, or collecting the materials needed and transmuting Truegold for resell.

Up til now most major changes like this occurred the day of the patch release.   When transmutation specialist went from requiring Primal Mights to Truegold it occurred on the release of the patch to open up Cataclysm.  Many expected something similar with Mists of Pandaria and got caught with their Truegold pants on the ground.

This is one of the reasons why leveling and prepping professions up to their maximum now becomes more and more important to players.   Gold goblins who had worked on their toons and finished up their specialist (whether it was potions,  transmutation or flasks) ended up being ahead of the players that waited til after the patch.

Where it's spoiled milk to cry over,  and Blizzard probably will not reverse it's decision to go in this direction, it is important to be prepared before the actual release update for Mists of Pandaria is released.  Hot fixes and patching can happen at a moments notice. And where 99% end up being beneficial,  something such as this transmutation change can cost a gold goblin a lot of money.

Three weeks to go.   Time to get excited and getting those last adjustments to your toons and professions finished before it's too late.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Save the children... Save Azeroth?

It is children's week.   That Hades week that you run 10 toons through a group of quests so you can have your delicious chocolate cake and share it with the kiddies.

But thanks to a quick reminder from Wow insider writers (view here) we were reminded of the major change to companions come Mists of Pandaria.   Get a pet on one of your toons on an account,  all of them on that account get the same pet/companion (there does seem to be some hold outs for this,  including some special one time pets).

This is not good news for the gold goblin multitudes.   Where Children's Week has never really been a huge money maker for most (the occasional lazy ice cream buyer and payment to run people through PVP achievements).  The majority of the money was made in people wanting the companions on multiple toons.  Those that have been paying attention will take advantage of this and just run each of the quests on one of their toons,  then be patient as it appears on their other toons later in the year (that's saying toons a lot).

But being knee deep in the flipping market for volatiles,  wait,  you haven't been buying and flipping volatiles?
I thought I had trained you better than that.  You're not seeing Volatile Earth's going for 50s a piece?  Or Volatile Life.   Alchemist can easily go back to transmuting their Volatile Life to Volatile Air or Volatile Water and gain some extra profit.  This applies especially if your Truegold and Cardinal Ruby business is
on the downturn.

The Elemental Market gets it's own treatment later in the week,  but for now jump on these deals when they arrive.  Storage is going to be a long term solution (there will be a demand especially for Volatile Earth once the rush is done.

So in short,

Kid's week + mist companion changes = Lower gold sales
Volatile Earth and  Volatile Life are your friends (especially if your an alchemist)
Also you might snag a few hundred gold just for taking people through the Kiddie Day Quest lines

The basic level requirements for the quests are

Orgrimmar/Stormwind   Level 10
Shattrath City  Level 60
Dalaran Level 72

So good luck,  eat your chocolate cake (it's good for you) and Happy Hunting
