One of the most difficult things to do is to keep motivated. Wait, I think I've said that over and over again. You probably get the idea that the next 3-4 months will be a little bit more of a drag for the average player. Many players will be logging on less and less during the week as the Mists of Pandaria expansion gets a little bit less shine on the content.
Getting prepped for the next expansion, Warlords of Draenor, can add a little bit of purpose to your gaming life. One of the prep items is your long abandoned farm in Halfhill.
You remember Halfhill? The place that was o so awesome at the beginning of MOP? Finishing your daily runs to open up new land to farm. Yes, that's right World of Warcraft had become World of Farm Craft.
So why should these plots of land become important in your future setup during Warlords of Draenor? One item that will continually be able to be made are the Motes of Harmony. Right now most players have a stockpile of these things in their inventory. Turning them in every so often for cash and prizes from the different vendor. I spend many of them on the Black and White Trillium ore for crafting purposes. Come WOD this won't be as important. Except that material could easily become much more scarce come WOD.
Look at the logic. We know that there are massive changes coming with WOD when it comes to gathering. No longer will players be needing to go to older expansion zones to gather items. This could easily mean that items such as Trillium ore and herbs become that much more valuable.
The other thing to look at is your own crafting needs. Engineering has received a long term blessing because they have pets that can be crafted. Right now they are much more expensive due to the length of time to craft (Jard's Peculiar Energy Source) and many people not continuing to craft these during the next expansion. Older crafting pets can be a good source of income with the next expansion. For 10 minutes of work a day (farming your crops, replanting) and then finishing your daily you could easily next a large amount of coin.
Other professions might not be as lucky when it comes to pets, but they still have opportunities. Simply just flipping purchased ore and herbs on the Auction House can add more money into your coffers. Where the main profit making of these items might not always be available, alternative options of selling can add much more profit into your bank.
Many players will just start with a clean slate when the WOD expansion opens its doors. Taking advantage of your knowledge and your preparation can give you that gold making advantage that others won't have.

Mommar here.
Another Tuesday has come and gone, resetting the loot tables for Garrosh runs as well as world bosses. With the change in the most recent hotfix that made world bosses taggable by everyone celestial runs have become a lot easier. Running in there, tagging an active mob that players are already killing and getting credit (along with your world famous Bag o' Gold) makes running 7 players through the grinder that much quicker.
After the success of adding more gold (and the occasional piece of gear) to my alts I then look to tackle the wonders that if flex 4. Having said it many times I like to get my flex 4 runs done early in the week simply because the better players during this time and my chances of success are that much better.
So I popped open the Oqueue extension and watched the filling of run requests. Words like 'quick' 'easy' 'no noobs' (my personal favorite) flash through each group loading up. Usually I ignore most of these simply because they rarely are quick and if you only have 3 players in your group how do you really know it will be quick and easy? To borrow a line from a favorite movie of mine "... Quick and easy is how you bake a cake, no run a multi-million dollar business such as ours ".
I queued up for a couple of seemingly interesting groups forming. They were listed as being run by 10/14H (shorthand for 10 of 14 bosses down in heroic) and waited to see if I got invited to the dance. Getting my magic golden ticket I was ready to go. I bring my own food and go and repair before I even queue. Similar to my views on queuing for groups on the Timeless Isle (be on the island, be ready to go, don't expect summons) etc.
After finishing off Garrosh and receiving my bag of nothing I logged onto my Hunter to see if she wouldn't be as successful. Being a Hunter generally I get chosen to run belts on Seigecrafter and end up killing the engineer for the Garrosh kill. Luckily, there was another hunter that volunteered to go. Both Seigecrafter and the Bugs went down pretty easily. Then it was time for the main event. Even the trash between the bugs and the Garrosh went down pretty easily.
Having high hopes that this would be a 1 shot kill we got set up. Lately the big strategy is to stack up on the spot just in front of Garrosh and kill the weapon as it pops. Seems to make things a lot easier because of less required running around and more DPS on the boss. But the RL decided that we needed to dance for the run.
First attempt we died pretty quickly. Second attempt we made it a little bit further and then the tirades began. Players blaming tanks, tank blaming healers and my little 170k dps sitting there deciding if it was time to call it a night and try the next day.
But being a little bit stubborn I stuck it out and we went at it with 11 people. Now generally the sweet spot I have seen is 13-14 players (or a full 25 grouping) when it comes to being successful. After the fourth attempt being a complete and utter failure I decided it was time to retire from the group and check on some auctions. Politely I thanked them for the attempts and went on my merry way.
Moral of the story? Even heroically attuned players are not always successful. Maybe I should have gone with the quick and easy cake. mmmm Cake.

If you haven't finished a Garrosh kill yet then turn your head away because I'm going to spoil something big for you. Are you turned away? Really? No Peeking!
Vol'jin is the new leader of the Horde.
See, I told you not to peek. But this isn't about that version of trolls. Those cuddly loveable bezerking trolls that have been both good guys and bad guys in the Warcraft mythos.
This is the other version of trolls. The ones that jump into conversations with a radical comment just to get a reaction. You know, the guy that jumps on trade chat and says 'all [insert race] are horrible people'. Yep, everyone has seen one that just enjoys watching the chaos.
I have said many times through writing that players should be allowed to play the game they want. As long as it doesn't directly interfere with another person's enjoyment. With the ability to turn off channels, block users and if all else fails, report them to the powers that be no one has to deal with trolls.
But I think it's important to know how to help a Troll. Trolls are lost, lonely and just need a big mental hug. Of course, that's why they act out in front of everyone else. Go to a 1st grade class and watch for the kid that flicks the ear of someone else. The one that makes funny faces at the teacher behind their back. They just need a hug right?
So here are some tips to help with raising a troll right.
1. Laugh at them. Now remember, we're not laughing with them because the odds are what they say isn't all that funny. Laugh at them. Make sure they know you are laughing at them. You wouldn't want them to starve for attention so make sure that everyone knows their inadequacies. Make sure to tell their guild leader that they are lonely as well. They are showing such a fine example of teamwork and playing that I am sure their guild is very proud of them.
2. Do not use logic around a troll. It confuses them and makes them feel small. Remember hugs not logic when it comes to feeding trolls. Don't point out that if they spent as much time actually playing the game than saying non-sensical things they would probably be much happier. Logic has been painful to a troll just like Kryptonite to Superman. You wouldn't want to confuse them with facts because that would just make them feel stupid.
3. Please please please do not ignore Trolls. Remember I told you that they are already feeling lonely and ignored. You wouldn't want to feel even more ignore would you? So take your time from making gold and interact with a troll. Whether it's in the game or on the forums. Help save a troll from their useless life and insignificant attempt at humor. Save the world, talk to a troll.
Sorry, need to take my tongue out of my cheek and go make some gold today.

When I started making gold it was mostly out of the need to repair my gear. This was long before repairs could be charged to the guild bank, automatic deposits into a guild fund, etc. After it was obvious that I could earn much more than what was necessary for basic needs I was able to look at toys and items that I thought were neat.
Fast forward to the current gameplay where if you combine the black market auction house, regular auction house and even buying heroic mount runs just about every mount in the game is available to you if you have enough gold. Selling gold mount runs is a hefty income maker for many hardcore raiding guilds. Spend 20k+ in gold and you get a mount. Oprah would be proud.
This isn't a condemnation of this practice. You earn the gold, you should spend it how you like. It is a personal choice on whether you want to 'earn' the mount with your guild or just buy it. I decided a long time ago that I would prefer to earn it or not have it. Buying it would always be a reminder to myself that I wasn't good enough to be a part of a group that could finish the entire requirements for the mount.
The farther that we get away from many of these old world raids and instances the more apt that people will be buying and selling these mounts. And it still will be a money maker with the next expansion. Selling level 100 runs into Seige of Orgrimmar. Even older raids will be able to be soloed quickly for cash and prizes. Bringing along someone who isn't as geared but wants an awesome mount for 5k will add that much into your pockets.
Mount/achievements runs and selling them have always been the area of heavy guilds. But picking up the lower level raids and selling spots can add some into your guild and personal coffers. Even enough to buy your way into a nice mount run of your very own.

That ripple effect that you felt has nothing to do with the announcement that anyone watching Blizzcon knew would be happening.
Blizzard announced in some blue notes that with Warlords of Draenor anyone purchasing the expansion would receive a free level 90 boost. Not that earth shattering since many players will be looking to boost alts or toons that they have played before.
But here is where things get a little bit more tricky. TPTB have also half way announced that you will be able to pay for the rights to boost other toons. So anyone that has the cash can boost any toon to level 90 and instantly get them into Warlords of Draenore content.
Boo, hiss, boo, lynch them right? But wait a second. Hear this out before you start to get a rope for these California boys. There are some pluses that go with getting more players into the game quickly.
- Faster Instance times
- Might help with the subscription loss from players
- Eliminates the sticker shock of having a new player level all the way to 100
- Allows players to test out new classes (maybe new tanks and healers?)
There is one big negative that is being brought up over the blogosphere. First a little history lesson. When the World of Warcraft MMO started you were able to purchase/sell items on auction sites such as ebay. There was a rash of gear and characters that were bought and sold digitally. Many of your old school players still refer to these as 'ebay toons' because they were able to instantly jump into high level raids and frankly they sucked. Having no time to spend leveling their skills and learning their abilities from 1-60, these players generally dragged down good players. 40 man raids were much more unforgiving at the time and if you ever ran old school Onyxia than 'more dots' was the battle cry for every lock.
But there is a large distinction between the game at that point and the game now. If you have leveled a toon up to 90 since around patch 5.2 you can see just how much 'learning' players get from leveling. Any instance, that someone says 'crowd control' is laughed at or with responses of 'what is that?' Most quests and instances up to around level 85 are tank you grab everything, healers keep the tank up, dps blow the snot out of them. At level 90 it takes 30 minutes of study and a little bit of work on target dummies to figure out what someone is going to do. Mostly a player's ability comes down to gear quality. It is highly possible that when you purchase your level 90 toon that you will be outfitted with basic green/blue gear so that you are not buck naked for the world to see.
The other argument that people have against buying the level 90 boosts is that it will bring about the effect of being able to buy your way into high level content. Run a couple of the Siege of Orgrimmar that someone says 'I have this buddy, I want to bring' and then tell me that people aren't already being carried in high level content. With the new LFR system in place and invite system, it will become much easier to be more choosy about who you bring to the party.
As far as making money goes. More toons always means the ability to have more professions available at your fingertips. A player who is just starting out with one or two toons can instantly have a third set of professions that they only need to level. Being able to instantly level to 90 might cut out the glut of low end materials that are prevalent in the Auction House. Very few players are going to take the time out to run in a low level area just to do some farming. This change could drive up the cost of materials. With this level 90 change don't be surprised if all of the professions receive major overhauls that allow players to level each profession quickly. You can already level Blacksmithing and Jewelcrafting very quickly. The idea is to get players quickly and painlessly into the new content.
Personally, I have no problem with the ability to purchase boosts for a fee. A lot of the feeling of dread that players have is coming from old school feelings of elitism. There is something to say about leveling 10 toons to level 90 and beyond. No one wants to think that their last 4-6 years of work can be bought for the low, low price of 25 bucks (or whatever they choose to mark the boost mechanic at). The best thing I can say to people who are already to chuck their warcraft careers is let the panic subside and see what the WOD brings. There will still be high level play in the game. High level gear and excitement raid boss smashing galore.

I grew up in the heyday of professional boxing. Where I was the epitome of a casual fan, recognizing many of the big time fights that occurred during this time.
One of the biggest when it happened, still sitting at one of the greatest of all times was the 06/04/1987 fight between 'Marvelous' Marvin Hagler and 'Sugar' Ray Leonard. I was able to watch this fight on Wide World of Sports long after it had happened. This was well before the Internet could tip you 10 minutes after a fight occurred.
While watching the fight one thing came into prospective. Hagler was a power puncher known for packing a wallop with each hit. Leonard was your classic boxer. All during the fight Hagler would give one or two shots while Leonard was peppering him with punches that appeared to not have as much power still was scoring points on the scorecard. At the end of the fight the multiple hits of Leonard defeated the power punching of Hagler.
This can easily apply to how you work your gold making system. Many players look for that big ticket item to sell. There is nothing wrong with hitting the big time with 1000g or even 10,000g sales. I Avg a 5000g sale every week with the bulk of my sales are the 'Pitty pat' sales. Some examples:
Netherweave Bags (my favorite) 20g per sale
Arcane Dust 5g per
Elementium Ore/bars
Lich King basic gems (Sun Crystal, Bloodstone, etc.)
Each small sale can equal to a big sale. Building on a base of sales, allowing more flexibility to create your profit pyramid. Keep plugging away at selling not just the big ticket items, but also the crafting items that can net you my suggested 20% profit line. These small sales become the adhesive to keeping your normal income stream coming through more trying times to come.
Look for those small sales opportunities along with your big ticket items and you will find your own judge to give you the split decision.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

To give a little perspective, currently my raiding guild does not do much when it comes to normal and heroic content during SOO. The guild I belong to has more 'mature' members, with many of them having other hobbies that keep them busy. One is a writer, a couple do lots of travelling for work etc.
One of the things I have found as I've geared my two raiding toons (Hunter, Arms Warrior) is that without the benefits of a weekly Seige of Orgrimmar raiding run I have had to run many many MANY flex and looking for raid runs to get a high gear level. This has given me lots of practice with my rotation and knowledge of the fights.
Now understand this isn't to toot my own horn. This idea that I have a relatively high gear level and have worked to obtain it will set the tone for what I'm about to speak about. Having a discussion with a fellow guild member about the pitfalls of running LFR one item came up to mind. Just how much carrying there is in flux and looking for raid runs. We had slightly differing opinions on just how much personal responsibility should be taken when it comes to be geared for the next step in the progression. Currently the progression goes LFR-Flex-Normal-Heroic. In theory, this has people running LFR runs until they are able to hold up on most of the fights and contribute. Some will draw that line at 100k and others have no problem with lowering this bar significantly. Tanks have to be able to survive and healers should be throwing out decent numbers to be able to keep up with the rest of the raid.
But anyone who has run flex lately can see that there is a stiff drop in some of the players. Some fights provide monster numbers on trash (cleave arms warriors rule, multi mob fights) but put us in the Thok fight and most melee has significantly lower numbers. Many of these questions about who is carrying who has to be taken with an overall view of a run.
Let's take for instance a Flex 2 run. The first two bosses can a lot of stand up and fight moments. Little movement is necessary on the first two fights other than repositioning. Both fights contain single target and multi targeting moments. This gives a good baseline on what a raid member can bring to the party.
For me, I like a baseline for Flex of around 75k (my guild mate argued at 100k). Anything less than 50k and someone is being carried through the fight. Having spent some time in flex with multiple toons I understand that trash doesn't count. You can beef up your numbers and look awesome, but when the boss hits the numbers drop significantly. This is where most people's kick button starts to get itchy. It becomes too easy to blame DPS for not being high enough. Or heals to not being high enough etc. Tanks take the most abuse in flex, which has caused them to be more picky and more scarce. Why run as a tank and take abuse when you can run as a dps, get carried and then get the same tank gear?
One of my biggest 'carry me' moments I have seen has happened through a friends guild. I went along with a friend of mines guild for a weekly run. Their raid leader asked what everyone else wanted to do. Their progression had Normal 1 and Normal, 2 on the farm. The raid leader chirped out and said that, let's try wing 3. Feeling a little froggy I jumped and started looking at any changes. The cringe in my heart happened when the raider leader and many others said they had never been in wing 3 even on LFR and flex. I knew I was going to be facing a large repair bill right then and there. The bosses in wing three can be the most demanding and unforgiving when it comes to tactics. You can get away with one mistake with higher level gear, but two mistakes and everyone are running back and resetting. After an hour and a half of dying over and over again, it was obvious that no progress was going to happen today. I mumbled to a online friend over what happened and how a few lfr/flex runs would give them the tools to be much more successful. Basic knowledge is a prerequisite to being successful
All of this becomes concerned with the changes that will be happening with Warlords of Draenor. Flex will be the new normal, with bosses and difficulty scaling to the amount of players in a raid. Blizzard revamping the group finding system and the LFR system to allow much more selective choice when it comes to what players come to the show. LFR will still be the default gear grinds and learn the tactics. The looking for group/flex runs will be the bread and butter learning the tactics and how to raid successfully Truly, I'm hoping that Blizzard adds a part that requires players to run LFR at least once to open up the next wings. It will irritate the hardcore raiders, but save a lot of heartache and frustration for your normal readers who become annoyed with carrying the unprepared players.
Now that my Soapbox is a little dented with some stomping. Let's get out there and enjoy the upcoming weeks of the Seige of Orgrimmar. Don't worry brother, I will still carry you. Just Bring Noodles.

One thing in the game of World of Warcraft that will never change is the quest for gold. Good or bad players have an opinion on how to make gold. 'It's too hard....' can be heard everywhere as some players expect to be handed gold in bags.
Mists of Pandora streamlined making gold with its basic idea. If you want to make basic gold you can finish dailies and quests. If you want to make stupid amounts of gold you can finish dailies, run instances and raids. Making obscene amounts of gold will have you playing the auction house.
What making gold will not do is allow you to be lazy. This may sound harsh but it really does grind my gears to hear people say they can't make gold. Take this for instance:
- Timeless Isle offers the quest A Timeless Question which drops 45g into your pocket for answering a question.
- Running your first daily instance drops 15g into your pocket for less than 15 minutes of running. This doesn't include any gear you disenchant or vendor.
- Running a scenario drops another 15g into your pocket with the possibility of more gear to vendor or disenchant
- Farming formats (skinning, mining, etc.) on timeless isle and all over Pandaria is easy. Filling up your bag for materials takes less time than it does to complain about how difficult it is to make gold.
Even at level 90 all of the old quests are worth double the gold. Running through Northrend content from the Lich King expansion and the revamped world of Cataclysm adds even more opportunities to place gold in your pocket.
So every time you hear someone complain about making gold being hard, smile and just keep on doing what puts gold into your pocket. Working smarter and putting in the time and effort to not just enjoy the game but enjoy having enough gold to buy anything you like.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

Mommar here.
Every so often I will be traveling around one of the major cities having trade chat open. Normally it's busy with bad jokes or requests for professions. But one topic seems to pop up every week.
Player A lists a large ticket item. In this case it was a Jeweled Onyx Panther Mount for 75k
Player B starts to complain because it is 'too much' and he wants it for 15k
Player A defends that the item costs more to craft and that he is being silly
Player B defends that he bought 5 last week for only 10k (righhhht)
Player C chirps in to choose a side.
Nothing gets solved but everyone looks silly. Player A has taken his eye off the ball of his sale. Player B does not check his homework to see the crafted value of an item and why it costs this much.
In the end no one wins. But this is easily solved by one understanding.
Player A needed to realize who his target audience was. Player B would never be convinced to pay 75k for a mount. When his argument started with 'it is just a mount' that was the immediate salvo that he didn't take an interest in being a mount collector. Meaning that no amount of cajoling is going to convince him that he needs this mount.
Player A should have quickly come to the understanding that he would be wasting his time trying to convince Player B that the pricing is correct. The best course of action would have been to walk away for a time being (because Player B would probably continue to announce the mount was too expensive in Trade for a bit) and attempt his sale later in the day.
I used to work in technical support for a software company. One of our jobs was the sell products to people who called in. I was very good at it for one specific reason. I learned how to spot a potential customer within the first 3 minutes of a call. Very rarely can you convert an upset customer into a positive sale. Solving a problem for someone will allow them to become much happier with what you are doing, allowing you to convert this into a sales experience. Spotting those sales targets is less about luck and more about giving someone a positive experience.
So keep this in mind when you're tempted to get into an argument about something you're selling because you are 'right. Being 'right' doesn't put gold in your pockets. Walking away and adjusting your target will allow you to both make gold, and still be 'right'.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

More of the pieces to crafting and itemization have come out into the open for the Warlords of Draenor expansion. Though developer Q&A, tweets and interviews players are slowly getting a picture of just how new gear will be itemized and obtained.
The big change will be the idea that a 'one size fits all' gear itemization will come into play. The five main pieces (helm, chest, legs, hands, shoulders) will change stats based on what specialization you use at that point. In past articles we have discussed just how this will cut down the opportunities to sell multiple sets to players through crafting.
The other points that have been brought up is that Jewelcrafting and enchanting will end up having less items to sell that end up being more powerful. Even today we have only 1 or 2 enchants for each piece. Bracers having three enchants became a luxury in sales.
It was just revealed that with these changes in gear stats that the enchants would not end up changing with the gear. Does this mean that there will be different types of enchants instead of your standard stat enhancement add-ons? Does the one size fit each specialization still exist for enchanters and armor patches?
Obviously there will be future questions answered as we get closer to the beta reveal for Warlords of Draenor. One thing that players can do now is to tighten up their techniques for sales. Players are already hoarding their gold in the expectation that gold making will become much more difficult. I would prefer to look at it as the players are going to have to sharpen their abilities and become that much better.
Last night I was in a raid with the third wing of the Seige of Org. On Ventrillo there was a common grumbling about how Blizzard was being a pain for making some of these raids more difficult. Falling Silence was my best answer I mentally ticked off just how much raiding had changed between Burning Crusades and the Mists expansion. The same is easily said for making gold in World of Warcraft.
Making gold in World of Warcraft is not difficult. But neither will the good fairy show up on your doorstep and deliver a cubic ton of gold coins for you to buy whatever your heart desires. A few techniques that are honed to a razor sharpness can put gold into your pocket and help build a solid foundation. Once the foundation is built you can expand and build your temple to in game gold as slowly or as quickly as you want. Even with these future changes in crafting this still exists. The best idea of making gold don't work hard, work smarter.
So until we have more information for Warlords, this is the perfect time to not just sharpen your raiding skills, but sharpen up your gold making skills. Every player is a potential sale and every transaction puts you that much closer to being in control of your own gold printing machine.
Good luck and Good Hunting
