Pre Patch 5.3 Setup

Mommar here.

Patch 5.3 is on the PTRs and with the background data coming to a computer near you,  it will be soon that many will be leaving the Isle of Thunder and moving on to more fertile grounds.

This also means that players who don't actively raid will be looking to level their alts.  Many will be setting their alternates for level 90 crafting and obtaining patterns that still can sell.   This is of course assuming they haven't already been doing this as we go.

Patch 5.3 will be introducing some interesting wrinkles into both how players will set their mains and alt armies for both professions and daily grinding.   With a tri-spec system many players will be working with a PVP-DPS-Heal/Tank setup.  This will be a good opportunity to make sure that you have glyph sales available for players to pick up.  Not just after the patch drops but before.  Players are becoming more and more intelligent so they plan ahead and purchase before the glyphmas rush.

Pure PVP power gems are going to take a hit because the powers that be are lowering their strength.   So start making sure you have the PVP pwr/secondary gems ready to go.   With Gem Sales being weak a new breath of fresh air to possible sales would be very welcome.

I"ve already looked at flipping the market when it comes to gems and enchants.   Depending on the purchase cost of bracer enchants and weapon enchants they will be in high quick demand as players enter new PVP zones and new raids.

As players continue to level and setup their alternate armies for professions,  some low level materials will continue to be in demand.   The change in Blacksmithing to allow players to use just Ghost Iron Ore/Bars to be able to max out their leveling caused a ding into this market.  But enchanting materials still are brisk from time to time as players look to have high level enchants on their team.

May is a good chance for beginnings,  take advantage and prepare for the oncoming profession storm.   Setting up your toon army to allow you to craft anything you want will save you gold.   Having the ability to process and craft anything for others will add more gold into your pocket.  And make you a happy gold goblin.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Throwing A Line

Mommar here.

Every so often as I'm looking at a market I get a wild idea to try something.    But first I must preface this with a conversation I had with a fellow gold goblin on my home server.   One day I was listing some Jewelcrafting items up and noticed that someone had started a couple of the more popular gems at the astronomical price of 750g a piece.   Now I'm not a huge fan of going for the home run ball in this way but I figured I would give it a try and take a look at what happened.

Later that day as I was doing some market cleanup and collecting gold I saw one of my gems had sold.  This surprised me a lot because why would someone want to pay 750g for a gem when they can get a black for 125g and offer a 25g tip.   Was someone's time worth that much that they would pay 4 times what the gem was worth?

So back to the story at hand.   I wanted to take my idea of Zero Point Investment to an extreme and see just how much I could squeeze out of a couple of markets.   The Ghost iron bar market had been pretty light even with the opening of the thunderforge.  The curve had not kicked in from players stocking up on cheap ore previous to the patch.   Combine that with ore itself still not at an extremely expensive level bars just were not selling as much as they probably should.  So I went ahead and purchased all of the bars on the market at that time for a reasonable amount,  then flipped them all at 3 times the amount.    I fully expected to just eat the Auction house cost and go my merry way.

But after my normal 12 hour listing I went back to my mailbox and watched 3 of the lots had sold at this extreme amount.  This more than paid for the investment in the bars themselves, plus a decent profit.   Now I probably shouldn't be surprised at one of my ideas actually being profitable.  It was a whim to put the bars up for that price and gain a profit.

So when you see a weak market as your looking at your local auction house,  take a chance and throw an incredible number out there and see who is fishing in your waters.   This doesn't mean go for  the million dollar gold bar,  but listing a flip at 3-4 times the amount you paid for can net you some interesting reactions.  And some extra gold in your pocket.

P.S.   Hoppy Easter Weekend

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Patch 5.2: Are you Ready???

Mommar here.

If nothing goes wrong we will all be hip deep in Patch 5.2 glory tomorrow.   Lots of new toys and places to look at.   Lots of opportunities to invest in materials for the massive upgrade rush.

Keep in mind that investment and sales will be a marathon and not a sprint.  Yes it is nice to be the first one to drop something on the market.   But there will be many players across many servers having these same thoughts.   Setting the price sky high,  then watching your newly selling treasure be overrun by the floods of
undercutters.

Staying disciplined in your sales techniques will get you high on the pile of gold instead of falling under the avalanche.   If the Auction House is flooded by sales,  look to bark in trade for your sales.   Everyone announcing all of their goodies as they dance on the mailbox in Stormwind?   Then drop some on the auction house for sales.   Those first two hours after the servers come live will be both exciting as well as very volatile.

Take a few minutes while the patch is downloading and installing to size up your strategy.   Will you be farming for the new recipes first?  Or crafting and manufacturing?   Reselling that sizable stockpile of Ghost iron ore and leathers?

How you come prepared to the dance is just as important as what you have to offer.   The other thing is that, and I know this will come as a shock,  there are many many many non sales things to do with this patch.  The new scenerios,  new lands to conquer,  new rares.  Keep an eye on what tickles your interest and go for it.

Marathon, not a sprint.   And make sure to enjoy the new patch.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Farming Post Patch 5.1

Mommar here.

It is Tuesday and by the time you read this hopefully the servers will be open.   But let us first jump into the way back machine a couple of months ago and get some comments on the farming just after Mists of Pandaria opened.

......  So many materials,   so little time

----- I can't make gold,   too easy to get Ghost Iron Ore

------  mmmmm Herbalism

Mists of Pandaria from the start made crafting materials very accessible.   This time around there was not a shortage of skins or ore to craft with.   It drove down the prices of stacks of crafting material,   which drove down prices on many of the items that were going to be gold making winners.

Now,  let's fast forward to post patch 5.1.   With the patch release,  spawn rate for Ghost Iron Ore and herb nodes were reduced.

Now before we all start panicking and running out.  This is good news for Gold Goblins.   Where farming gold may become a little bit more work to obtain,  the commodities themselves should start driving up in price.  Nodes for mining and Herbalism are still there,   There just will be a lower amount on the Auction House as players will have to take longer to collect.   It will raise crafting prices on items,  but also should raise selling prices on items.

Your best bet is to keep a close eye on materials as they arrive to the Auction House and look for the best buy.   Also keep your cartel farmers happy with little trinkets and help when you can.  Having a good solid base of farmers will help you keep your costs down as you continue to produce gold making opportunities.

Also keep an eye on automatic posting from addons.   Don't be afraid to buy an underpriced item that you know will sell and relist it at a higher price.   With the new upgrade system with 5.1 and excess points that players have,  they are more apt to upgrade weapons as they proceed through the quest lines and dailies.

Keep your head up high,   gold is just around the corner.

Good Luck and Good Gold Hunting
