Farming Darkmoon Faire

Darkmoon Fair Island opened up its portals yesterday to the lack of fan fare that I have talked about before. With the removal of obtaining xp for the various daily activities and quests,  it has become less of a focus for many players leveling their toon.

But one thing to keep in mind when you decide whether to visit the faire for the next week.   With the new expansion the odds are very good that the items will be added to the pet menagerie.  Having that stockpile of Darkmoon Prize Tickets will get you ahead of everyone else in being able to sell the various pets from the Island.

This is also a great time to level your professions for your alternates.  The +5 points that you can obtain each weekly visit can save you not just time but gold as well.  Do not forget to level the cooking and First Aid as well.

With the two bosses on the island being in rotation (Moonfang around every hour, Darkmoon Rabbit on an approximately 36 hour respawn).  Both drop pets that are in demand for pet lovers.   Both can bring in a large amount of cash both during the faire and when it's gone for the month.

If you need to review the different aspects of the Darkmoon Faire make sure to check out Icy-Veins write up on the entire experience.

Mists of Pandaria is winding down for many players.  As more and more information is released about Warlords of Draenor starting to develop a sound strategy for investment for niche items such as pets will allow you to be ahead of everyone else on the road to Draenor.

Don't forget the today is Cyber Monday so there is a lot of opportunity to get players into the game from the start.   Blizzard is selling MOP and some other stores are selling the boxed set/battle chest for the same cost. This will be a great time to get your friends into your favorite game.

10 Rules To Price My Golem.

Mommar here.

Okay,  I will be honest that there really isn't going to be 10 rules.   But I happened to like the ABC show and felt it worked with the title.

The Sky Golem is the second high cost mount that was introduced with the Mists of Pandaria expansion.   Similar to the Jewelcrafting Jeweled Onyx Panther,  this mount will end up being a high expense/high profit mount for the profession.

So on with the rules

1.   It takes 30 days to make enough materials to make this mount.

Assuming you have both an Engineer and an Alchemist you can make these materials yourself.  Both are set on a 24 hour timer with the Jard's Peculiar Energy Source being BOP.  Now there is a work around using a Spirit of War for an accelerated crafting time but they are so expensive that it would be a waste to use these to get the item one day faster.  The Living Steel can be purchased from the AH but,  if you are already needing 30 days to craft the Energy Source it makes just as much sense to use that time to make your own Living Steel Bars.

2.   It's going to be in high demand.

Everyone wants a fricking transformer.  Even someone starting out in the game and seeing this fly around will want to know how they can get it.  Supply and demand decide the prices on items.

3.   There are many more engineers out there than most people know.

Many players have alternate toons that have engineering on them.  Between Cataclysm and MOP very useful and profitable items were introduced.  Plus those wonderful toys that early engineers get can make the game enjoyable.

4.  I can make it and you can't.

This may sound rude, but Warcraft is not a popularity contest.  Where I believe you can be honest and generous most of the time,  it is not my job to provide someone with cheap items.  The Jeweled Onyx Panther required a player to obtain exalted status with the Order of the Cloud Serpents plus purchase the materials.  The main material that was BOE (you can always buy and bring your own) was the Orb of Mystery. Unless you were one of the lucky ones that had it drop for you the upfront money was between 72,000g and 80,000g.  That by itself prohibits the Jeweled Onyx Panther to be a cheap mount to purchase.  Instead of needing the reputation to craft this you need to have the pattern drop and then remember your daily timer for 30 days.  Players who purchase this item are paying for time instead of up front materials.

5.  Players will craft the Sky Golem for themselves first.

This goes hand and hand with supply and demand.  Starting with the Mechano-hog (or alliance version) from Wrath of the Lich king,  engineers finally got a cool item for themselves.  Alchemist received a cool mount during the Cataclysm campaign.  This is another status item for Engineers to be able to show off with.  So this will limit just how many will be available for the 'normal' non engineers.

So why is it important to know how to price your Sky Golem?  Because we are about halfway through to where the first ones will be born.  Players are already looking to have ones crafted on the cheap.  When the Mechano-hogs were first crafted and it cost 14k in materials players would want one crafted for 9k,  10k,  12k not realizing just how much of a loss that would be.  Even today I will get messages asking me to craft a Mechano-hog bike for 10k.  I explain to them the reasons why that isn't possible and they usually will nod in acceptance.  I have had some that argued with me that I was just trying to rob them and that I wasn't being fair.  Usually I laugh and place the hog on the AH waiting for another sale (I have sold 3 since the end of Cataclysm for 10k profit).

See,  I told you I wouldn't make it to 10 rules.    But I think it's just as important to know now as when the golem first roll off the production line of just where to price them.  Some players will look for a quick profit not knowing the goldmine they sit on.  If a player can afford to buy a mount for 50k,  with just a little bit more work they can afford to buy it for 75k.

Keep this in mind when your ready to craft that first of many transformers to add into your family.  How much is your time and effort worth?   How much do you think is too much profit?

Patch 5.2: Are you Ready???

Mommar here.

If nothing goes wrong we will all be hip deep in Patch 5.2 glory tomorrow.   Lots of new toys and places to look at.   Lots of opportunities to invest in materials for the massive upgrade rush.

Keep in mind that investment and sales will be a marathon and not a sprint.  Yes it is nice to be the first one to drop something on the market.   But there will be many players across many servers having these same thoughts.   Setting the price sky high,  then watching your newly selling treasure be overrun by the floods of
undercutters.

Staying disciplined in your sales techniques will get you high on the pile of gold instead of falling under the avalanche.   If the Auction House is flooded by sales,  look to bark in trade for your sales.   Everyone announcing all of their goodies as they dance on the mailbox in Stormwind?   Then drop some on the auction house for sales.   Those first two hours after the servers come live will be both exciting as well as very volatile.

Take a few minutes while the patch is downloading and installing to size up your strategy.   Will you be farming for the new recipes first?  Or crafting and manufacturing?   Reselling that sizable stockpile of Ghost iron ore and leathers?

How you come prepared to the dance is just as important as what you have to offer.   The other thing is that, and I know this will come as a shock,  there are many many many non sales things to do with this patch.  The new scenerios,  new lands to conquer,  new rares.  Keep an eye on what tickles your interest and go for it.

Marathon, not a sprint.   And make sure to enjoy the new patch.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Change Of Scenery

Mommar here.

The curse of autopilot tends to fall on every player at one point or another.   Repetition can be very useful when it comes to making gold in wow.   Reposting of glyphs that didn't sell one day,  weapon and armor enchants,  purchased blues and epics for flipping options.   There is nothing wrong with these autopilot techniques to be able to make gold on a daily basis.

But occasionally that change in scenery is needed to throw off your competition.   I have players that are determined to shoot me in the foot simply for the fact that it is a personal feather in their cap.   Anytime someone is successful in their field then someone has painted a target on them.   It is a part of the game and
should be considered a personal medal of achievment.

It is one of the reasons that most players do not know my alternate characters.  And just at what auction house they are parked at.   A little research might be able to find them from the armory,  but the odds are players are not going to take that time.   Having multiple toons playing the auction house can confuse your competition into thinking there is more than one player in the game.

Lets take glyphs for instance.  I've always used the wall pasting technique.   Through a basic search function I see any glyphs that are selling for over 50g,  those are what I list for my profits for that day.  I craft them or look at my back stock.   Then I will take half of those and send them to one of my alts for listing.  This may seem like an extra step of work,  but it prevents most players from seeing just one active player in the glyph game.   Two players can become a force to others.

Sites such as The Undermine Journal at the press of button can tell exactly what one player has listed.   But if they go with just that search your competition will not see the multiple auctions that you have listed under other alternates.

Controlling your market and a simple change of scenery can throw the wolves off your trail and keep them from targeting your goals for the kill.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Lost Pets for MOP:

Ahh memories

When I was grinding on my main in Sholazar Basin in Northrend  during Wrath of the Lich King,  I remember the set of daily quests that were given by the Oracles Faction.    Doing multiple days of dailies I finally reached revered with them and visited their quartermaster.  The prize was mine.  My First Mysterious Egg.

So why was this egg so important?   Wrath was the expansion that had a huge rush to gain new mounts.  From tigers to bears to proto-drakes.   Everyone wanted a new mount to fly around in the middle of their home city.

But the 2nd prize for opening these eggs (they took 7 days of sitting in your bags or bank to 'open' was what we will be concentrating on now.   After shortening the sitting time in your inventory to 3 days you could get:

Cobra Hatchling
Proto Drake Whelp
Tickbird Hatchling
White Tickbird Hatchling

Most players will burn through Sholazar Basin with their new toons,  and experienced players generally do not return to old areas they've been at.  So this is a win/win for us gold goblins.   Pets are going to be a huge gold mine,  and the more rare the pet the more gold they will be worth to train.  Occasionally you will get a yolk (get it,  the yolks on you) but either gaining them this way or flipping them from the AH will provide a nice cash income for your future pet training business.

The other pet area is the Ghostly Skull found in the sewers in Dalaran.

If you go to Darahir in the sewers you can purchase the Ghostly Skull for 10g.  Most players either didn't know about this pet (shhhhh don't tell them) or they don't realize that this pet will be cageable and saleable (and a caged skull,  how goth is that?)

There are other pets that will be saleable that are rare simply because of their placement in areas that noone ever goes to again.  Or that they take so long to finish up the quests that players will have moved on from the area never to return.   Taking advantage of these areas will up your pet gold making skills
and put you on the gold goblin elite list.

Edit-  09.09.12

Wanted to clarify one thing with this.  The Ghostly Skull isn't currently BOE,  it's still BOP and is not

Tradeable.   It will become tradeable when Mists of Pandaria opens up and you can place these trained
pets in cages and sold on the AH or via trade chat.   The pets from the Oracle eggs are currently BOE
and can be traded now.  But your profits will go higher if you wait til Mists of Pandaria and train them
a few levels before sales..

Good Luck and Good Hunting

We Will Miss You Truegold

Mommar again.

A couple of weeks ago i had written about looking for the tipping point between transmuting Truegold and transmuting new elements.

With 5.04,  this has become a moot point because the transmute timer on Truegold has been removed. Where on many servers Truegold has remained at the same price and even going down,  volatiles are starting to rise again in prices.  Some of this can be linked directly to less farming occurring in volatile rich areas.   Less mining and Herbalism starts to effect Volatile Life and Volatile Earth and its availability in the open market.

Now is that time to switch to performing your living element transformation and collect either Volatile Air from Ulduar or Volatile Water from Vashjir.   Both are seeing increases in demand and even for long term storage (Volatile Earth is still going to be very useful to resell to levelers during the opening part of Mists of Pandaria).

But don't give up complete on Truegold if you're an alchemist.   Where right now there isn't as much demand for your alchemist created mount Vial of the Sands,  a new grouping of warcraft millionaires will be quickly rising.   And they will be demanding more and more extravagant items to purchase.   So keeping a few Truegold in the bank could come in profitable later on.

So goodbye you excellent money making Truegold you,  I'm sure you will be back filling gold goblin pockets in no time.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Jewelcrafting Dailies.... or Something Similar

The powers that be at the Blizzard control center have released the second part of their master plan for the Jewelcrafting profession.   Along with the Zen Jewelcrafting token there will be a daily mechanic to produce the possibility of new patterns.

The whole thing seems to be revolving around having 3 of a specific color of raw gem.  After you have gathered this,  then you perform the spell based on the color of the gem.

There also is a wildcard Jewelcrafting transmute based on the BOP item Spirits of Harmony.  The Transmute called Secret of the Stone ignores the normal Jewelcrafting timer so it can be repeated based on how many Spirits of Harmony you have (it requires 3 each time)   So that gives you the possibility of multiple attempts to gain access to new patterns.  Look for a lot of money to be sunk in this,  and the base gems to get expensive from the start.   Once the new Elementium Shuffle for MOP is found,  this is going to be a huge advantage to Jewelcrafters.

The BOP nature of the Spirits of Harmony crafting material also gives a huge advantage to players that quest and enter into dungeons.   It allows them to be able to craft items that other players can't due to the requirement.

The target gems needed for the Jewelcrafting transmutes will be:

Wild Jade (Green)

Vermillion Onyx (Orange)

Imperial Amethyst (Purple)

Primordial Ruby (Red)

Rivers Heart (Blue)

Sun's Radiance (Yellow)

With the big three gems coming from the Red Gem Camp

Delicate Primordial Ruby (+160 Agility)
Brilliant Primordial Ruby (+160 Int)
Bold Primordial Ruby (+160 Strength)

These will be the three that will be in demand the most.  So grabbing these as quickly as possible and posting products for sale will be your first priority.

As with any new mechanic,   something like this could change in a moments notice.   Including whether there will be a guarantee recipe each timer period,  or a "chance" at one.    Both the token purchasing and the random pattern generator option will allows players to get into jewelcrafting quickly.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Born To Be Mild

And the hammer keeps falling from the Blizzard control center on "minor" changes with MOP.  The powers that be announced that pets caught in the "wild" would not be able to be traded or sold.

The rest of the blurb did state that this could change in a future patch.   But it puts a big dent in the pet selling market.  This sets up that only pets that are purchased or crafted can be sold.

It's understandable that Blizzard wants players to explore for their pets instead of just sitting around the Auction House and buying rare or extremely rare pets.  But those that were looking for big gold in selling the rare pets are scratching their head over what plans to make.

Preaching to my eyes have turned blue,  the home run theory of making gold isn't as successful as working on a production line mentality.   So planning ahead on what purchased/craftable pets will be popular.  Deciding whether buying and training pets will still be a viable way to make gold.

Blizzard will probably loosen the leash on wild pets,  once exploration and leveling begins to settle down (Probably patch 5.2 or so).   Think of this similar to when orbs have always started off as being BOP,  then switching to BOE later on.   This gives the player that explores and levels an advantage over players who crafters just sit in cities to generate revenue.

Pets such as the White Kitten in Stormwind or the Golden Dragonhawk Hatchling are good options to sell to the opposing faction.   The key will be finding the niche that players are not selling.  Even if it's the lowly cockroach from Undercity.

These aren't new techniques,   they have been repeated time and time again.  But their important in pet selling market has just increased.  Even leveling a new purchased pet to level 5 can increase their selling price.   The balance is between how much time is spent to level and the selling price.

Mental or even physical recordkeeping will help you determine the true value of selling a pet.  And whether the selling of pets will ultimately be worth the effort.   Don't be afraid to just work on your own collection for now and deal with other avenues of sales.   Pet selling could easily become the new inscription when it comes to sales.

MOP Prep: Reduction in Inventory

Blizzard has announced the different events they are planning during Gamescon 2012,  including the world first playing of the intro to Mists of Pandaria.

With each tidbit of information that is offered,  the opening to the gates to Pandaria comes closer and closer.   And so closing of sales routes and limiting inventory will become much more important.

I've been talking more and more about how collecting inventory to resell at the beginning of the new expansion will be more important.  But just as important will be the limiting of production of items that will not sell between now and the beginning of MOP.

Two options are presented the closer that we get to the panda invasion.  You can begin to look to turn around inventory at reduced rates.   It is important to make sure that you are keeping a close eye on what is and isn't selling.

Take the Extreme Impact Hole Puncher that I have sold consistently since it's introduction.

Production costs have always hovered around the 3-4k (less if I produce the items on alts) and sold at the start easily for 11k+.   The closer that MOP comes,  the lower I will drop the prices to make sure that I do not get caught up with extra inventory.

Jewelcrafting will find this is very important.   The lower blue gems (Nightstones etc). will still be important for players rolling new jewelcrafters.  Other items such as Inferno Rubies will continue to lose value due to lack of demand.   Inventory control will give you both added space for your investment items,  and generate quick sales without the fear of losses in the future.

Closing all sales and liquidating inventory is possible at this point.  This would guarantee no losses but also could limit the continual gold stream that is still available.   Knowing your markets and selling to them is going to be the driving force of your continued gold goblin empire.

Will you wait til the announcement of the introduction date for MOP?  Or start to close your sales route now to play it safe?

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Go and Kill the King

Sometimes I like to take a step away from giving gold tips and add some other tips in the mix.   It may not put gold in your pocket,  but it will make your game life slightly easier.

With Mists of Pandaria the Have Gift Will Travel guild perk will be changing to  Ride Like the Wind.  The new guild perk will increse speed on the flight paths (right now it's listed at 0% so it's undetermined exactly how fast it will be).

So why is this important to us?   Because everyone wants the For the Alliance/For the Horde achievmeents and the Reins of the Black War Bear for their collection.    And the changing of this Guild perk will remove a very useful tactic for raiding a major city.

Currently the best strategy I've seen for killing all for faction leaders is to sneak rogues into all four major cities.  Have them sit there and then summon the raid to the Faction leaders area.   Kill the leader then escape from the city.  By the time the group is reformed outside then the next rogue can summon to the next kill spot.  If done quickly enough the achievement is yours,  and your on your way to your mailbox to collect your mount.

I have been very suprised that Blizzard didn't gimp this perk more during the cataclysm expansion.    But now that they have changed it,  it is a perfect time to take advantage of the amount of wowcations that players are taking before the MOP expansion.

Yakity Yak

Every so often I like the idea of taking a break and presenting just why some things are too much fun
to not have wow gold for.

Imagine your walking in Pandaria,   having fought off multiple monsters,  gaining gold and dreaming of gold filled days.  Your game throat is parched,  and that little icon flashes on your screen telling you it's time to repair.   You can go to your local outpost,  get repaired and sell all your junk.   Zap back to where your hearth is set.   Or you can push one button and ride one of the most awe inspiring mounts of all time.

That's right gold goblins.  for the estimated price of 60,000g this multi-ton off road mount can be yours.   Similar to the Traveler's Tundra Mount it's going to have vendors (hopefully will updated items) and 2 seats that can be used to travel in style.  4 wheel drive hoofs are extra.

60,000g is a lot to most players.  But then remember that it's highly possible this will be carried over to all your toons with the new mount based account system.   The best idea is to see which one of your toons will get the best discount to buy it.  If all of the discounts apply (it's unknown yet since Mists is still in beta) it should come down in price to a mere 45,000g.   Chump change for this stunning vehicle (MP3 Player sold seperately).

This will be one of those must have items at least one person in a raid.  Jumping out of an instance and having everyone repair quickly and restock instead of having to wait til everyone teleports,   gets back and then the momentum is lost.   Plus you can put the heads of your enemies on the pointy horns.

Get your Yak mount soon.   Be the first to try to milk a yak.   But your on your own for that part.

Good Luck and Good Hunting
