Bring Me the Alchemist

Mommar here.

The facts are Blacksmiths,  Engineers,  Leatherworkers and Scribes received all of the  Christmas presents with patch 5.4.   In the same lot Alchemist got the short end of an already questionable stick.

But if you have looked at the pricing for Primal Diamonds as well as gem cuts there is a very nice market developing.  Those long forgotten Golden Lotus plants are still relatively cheap on the AH.  with much of the ore being used for transmutes of Trillium and bars to feed into the Blacksmith/Engineer daily needs raw gems have become much more expensive.  And with a short guarantee of getting a blue raw gem with your prospecting it becomes much more financially sound to transmute your own.

If you are like me you have a cubic guild bank ton of the basic gems sitting in one of your storage bays.  Having grown into this game with an aversion of throwing anything away that might be useful (this includes a lot of foodstuffs and old tokens that I hope someday will be back in demand), this will be a nice way to start to empty out that massive collection of gems.

Rings and Neckpiece sales have dried up because of the loot pinata that is Timeless Isle.  A reasonable geared toon can start to chew up turf in Timeless Isle and get the majority of alts geared up quickly.  Think of it similar to getting a tattoo.  Where you may pay 100 dollars for a tattoo,  you are paying a lot of money for the 'after care' products that the shop will sell.  Gems,  enchants and other items are your aftercare products for the Timeless Isle gear.

Also don't poo-poo the Primal Diamond Transmutes.  For the transmutes to be going in excess of 700g just for the diamond itself and a lot more gold for the higher cuts you have a nice profit margin that had been in a lull for a bit.

Don't have an alchemist on the payroll?   Then that's where you can take your fingers and voice to the guild and do some walking.  Everyone wants to earn a few gold pieces, and this is a prime opportunity to save yourself a lot of gold simply by a little bit of discussion with other players.

As patch 5.4 matures you will see a lot less demand for items because the excitement will wane and the grind of dailies will return.  Players will start to drift away waiting for the new expansion.  Keep an eye on your profit margins and don't get stuck with items that can't or won't sell.

Now onto Brewfest.  I need a Root Beer

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Patch 5.4: Golden Lotus Beatdown

Mommar here.

When starting Mists of Pandaria the biggest grind was obtaining revered with the Golden Lotus faction.  It was a long grind of finishing dailies.  After finishing the first set if you had a high enough reputation you could go to the next set.  Ultimately reaching revered and unlocking other quest hubs for Shado-pan and August Cestials.

Patch 5.3 unlocked the necessity to have revered reputation with Golden Lotus to have access to new quest areas.   With 5.4 the Vale of Eternal Blossoms gets a complete remake.   Assuming you call a place that looks like it was blown up with an atom bomb a remake.

The Golden Lotus after patch 5.4 is going to be an old school's reputation beat down.   Elite mobs giving you 200 reputation.  Lesser mobs only give you 5 rep per kill.   But fear not for there are a lot of mobs to kill in the area.

You also have access to the daily farmer order if you have leveled your farm high enough to have access.   Also there are random mobs that drop tokens that will give you rep.  Don't forget to also pick up your Grand Commendation of the Golden Lotus to increase your reputation grinding.

But don't forget to try your hardest to hit exalted before patch 5.4.   The achievement http://www.wowhead.com/achievement=7315/eternally-in-the-vale will not be available after patch 5.4 drops.  And many players are already going to be farming this area for the new Profession patterns.  So there will be a lot of players running around this area killing things that it might become frustrating to get that last couple of mobs to become awesome with The GL Corps (yes,  I said it.).

The patterns are even useful for selling to alternates as well as personal use.  Also remember that with patch 5.4 much of the gear that was available for valor points will now be sold for Justice Points.  This will put a huge boost on newly minted 90 players getting them into raiding that much faster.

Lots of exciting changes are just around the corner with patch 5.4.  Now is the time to push through the boredom and get your lineup set for the last phase of Mists of Pandaria.  Working smarter and not harder is the key to being the best gold goblin you can be.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Patch 5.2: Farming For Rep.. With A Farm?

Mommar here.

Have you ever asked yourself is this the end of what to do in Halfhill?  You run there every day.   You pick your crop,  you invest in more seed,  and you plant more crop.   You do some menial tasks including killing multiple sorts of birds,  rats,  monkeys and even find the occasional apple buried in some dirt.

All of this so that you can cook more and more epicurean delights and maximize your reputation with The Tillers.   Sounds like a barrel of non stop fun and adventure.    Wake me up when the next patch hits.

With patch 5.2 this all changes.   5.2 introduces the idea of work orders that factions around Pandaria will give to you to plant and cultivate materials they can use.   If you remember the original daily dungeon quests in Shattrath city and how they were implemented this will be very similar.  But instead of having to run a dungeon,  you'll need to both plant and pick the assigned vegetables.   Unfortunately if they keep with that idea then there will not be a way to actually stock up on vegetables to sell to complete the daily task.

The new work order program does seem to require two things.   You will need to have opened up all 16 slots on your farm and have obtained Exalted status with The Tillers to start this process.   The does not cover all of the different reputation grinds that have to be done during Mists of Pandaria but it will help shorten up some of the grinds to the more time consuming grinds (Klaxxi,   Golden Lotus).   Requiring all 16 plots.  Icy-Veins.com has a good walk-through on the reputation grind with The Tillers.

Also make sure that once you hit revered you purchase the Grand Commendation that is available from most of the different reputation quartermasters.  This will shorten up your grind from Revered to Exalted.

So why is this important to gold making?   Well there are two pieces of common logic when it comes to planting in Halfhill.   First finish up the daily from Farmer Yoon,  then either plant Enigma Seed for the chance to obtain random crops and Golden Lotus.  Or plant Song Bell Seed to obtain 16 motes of harmony (1.6 spirits of harmony per day).  This is going with the normal process of planting the Farmer Yoon crop of the day and digging it up to replant whichever plant you choose to let grow.

With the new work order program this could effect the production of Golden Lotus production.   Players might have to fill up between 4-8 of their plots to finish up each daily work order.   If you are planting the Engima seed then that gives you only half the chances of getting the Golden Lotus crops to bloom.   This could easily cause a spike in prices for Golden Lotus sales.     Just keep an eye on your sales and investment opportunities as the stock starts to dwindle.

Halfhill sounds exciting doesn't it?    Okay,  well maybe not all that thrilling unless your into planting and growing more crops on order.   But anything that makes the reputation grinding a little bit easier is a good thing right?   So sharpen up those plows and hoes and lets get ready to plant.

Good Luck and Good Planting

Plant PVP: Enigma Seed vs Songbell Seed

If you have been doing your dailies diligently in Half Hill you have been gaining those precious points of reputation with The Tillers faction.  Along with this gives you your own little piece of land to plant in.  Ultimately openly up 16 plots to plant seed to grow.

One of the strategies we talked about to maximize the potential of this land area is to plant the daily crop you receive from Father Yoon,  till the soil again and then plant Songbell Seed.   This gives you the opportunity to pick up a minimum of 4 Motes of Harmony and at maximum land availability a full Spirit of Harmony and 6 Motes of Harmony every day (16 Motes of Harmony total).

To increase profits,  especially for non crafters.  Players would exchange each Spirit of Harmony to either Danky or Krystel at their respective shrines for a Golden Lotus.   This was a viable income that guaranteed between 250-500g a day just to resell the Golden Lotus itself.   Alchemist could make more gold by crafting raiding flasks or potions of luck.  Jewelcrafters could use the item to get a new transmute timer towards a blue gem.

Enigma Seed was also available for planting as well,  but the drop rate of a random Golden Lotus was miserable for drop rates.  It was mostly abandoned as being non profitable and the Songbell Seed became the king of the planted crop.

All this changed with patch 5.1.  There was a sizable increase in the drop rate for Golden Lotus from the Engima Seed harvesting.   This changed the base idea (shall we coin this the Half Hill Shuffle?) of what to plant for the maximum profits for now.   Instead of planting Songbell Seeds and then converting them to Golden Lotus plants you would obtain a lot more gold from planting/harvesting the Engima Seed directly.

Now,   this is a nice set of options for quick gold.  But trying to be the top of the heap of the Gold Goblins means we have to think outside the box.   The one difficulty that people have when wanting items crafted is the inability to obtain Spirits of Harmony.   If you want an item crafted you must find a crafter willing to part with their Spirits of Harmony and negotiate a price.   This makes these crafting items expensive depending on the availability on servers.

At some point Spirits of Harmony will go from BOP to BOE.  It has occurred with every non raid crafting item at some point during the maturity of the server.  And that initial burst of demand when it occurs can dwarf much of the smaller profits that occur from a simple harvest/trade that occurs now.   So every 3 days (two days a week) I go ahead and plant a crop of Songbell Seed.  this gives me from my harvest  3 Spirits of Harmony and two Motes of Harmony.   I set those aside as a long term investment when they become BOE.     There is very little downside on this investment unless Blizzard decides to create a new crafting material.  Even then Spirits of Harmony will be useful all during the expansion.

All of this is assuming that you have purchased all of your patterns for your perspective crafter.  The amount of profit that is obtained from the Half Hill Shuffle (I'm liking that name more and more) ends up being dwarfed by a few sales of the patterns purchased by the Spirits of Harmony.  Even after you have obtained all of the profession patterns purchased by Spirits of Harmony,   saving the Spirits of Harmony for crafting of large ticket items can equal or rise above what is gained from the new shuffle.

So if your a non crafter,  this new Half Hill shuffle is a new viable way of obtaining gold through your farms at Half Hill.   For the non crafter your decision becomes more difficult because you have to base which strategy to follow based on your crafting ability,   demand on your server and your willing to be patient for larger profits against a quick,  easy profit amount.

Either way,   this can expand your gold making adventures,  making planting seed just like planting gold and waiting for the money tree to appear.

Good Luck and Good Hunting
