Patch 5.4: Golden Lotus Beatdown

Mommar here.

When starting Mists of Pandaria the biggest grind was obtaining revered with the Golden Lotus faction.  It was a long grind of finishing dailies.  After finishing the first set if you had a high enough reputation you could go to the next set.  Ultimately reaching revered and unlocking other quest hubs for Shado-pan and August Cestials.

Patch 5.3 unlocked the necessity to have revered reputation with Golden Lotus to have access to new quest areas.   With 5.4 the Vale of Eternal Blossoms gets a complete remake.   Assuming you call a place that looks like it was blown up with an atom bomb a remake.

The Golden Lotus after patch 5.4 is going to be an old school's reputation beat down.   Elite mobs giving you 200 reputation.  Lesser mobs only give you 5 rep per kill.   But fear not for there are a lot of mobs to kill in the area.

You also have access to the daily farmer order if you have leveled your farm high enough to have access.   Also there are random mobs that drop tokens that will give you rep.  Don't forget to also pick up your Grand Commendation of the Golden Lotus to increase your reputation grinding.

But don't forget to try your hardest to hit exalted before patch 5.4.   The achievement http://www.wowhead.com/achievement=7315/eternally-in-the-vale will not be available after patch 5.4 drops.  And many players are already going to be farming this area for the new Profession patterns.  So there will be a lot of players running around this area killing things that it might become frustrating to get that last couple of mobs to become awesome with The GL Corps (yes,  I said it.).

The patterns are even useful for selling to alternates as well as personal use.  Also remember that with patch 5.4 much of the gear that was available for valor points will now be sold for Justice Points.  This will put a huge boost on newly minted 90 players getting them into raiding that much faster.

Lots of exciting changes are just around the corner with patch 5.4.  Now is the time to push through the boredom and get your lineup set for the last phase of Mists of Pandaria.  Working smarter and not harder is the key to being the best gold goblin you can be.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Anonymous Gold Goblin

Mommar here.

I firmly believe that your reputation in making gold is just as important as the techniques that you use.   Whether you choose to manipulate the market,  or grind out gold.   Your reputation is how players look at you on the open market.   The more friends you have the more you are apt to be told about major changes in the market.   The more enemies you have puts you in the place to have more financial assassins looking to put your pelt on their imaginary wall.

This is one of the reasons that I spread my sales across different accounts.   With the major players in online information having access to exactly what someone will post almost immediately,  it does not take long for players to black list your toon or to attack your strategies head on.

Black listing is provided in many addons to allow you to either ignore or target a players auctions.   They will know exactly how much you listed an item for and if they have the ability can craft or list the same item cheaper.   White listing allows a player to make sure that you never undercut or challenge a friendly player.  Many of the major auction house suites (TSM, Auctioneer) have a version of this strategy.

Even if a player doesn't use these in their day to day auction house chores.   A mental list of who to trade with and who not to trade with exists on every server.   If you have ever spent time in trade chat you will have someone put up a creative add only to see 3-5 players yell "scam" or "he did x to me and robbed me".  That is the black list that every server provides.

It isn't that difficult to track alternates for a player.  Many websites link both mains and alternates on a server or even cross servers.  Most players don't want to take the time to do this much research.  The more difficult you make it to track who is selling what from your account,  the more apt you are to stay under the radar.

When i started writing this journal I knew that I would become a target of sorts.   Players would both look for my auctions and challenge my listing.  Or they would out and out black list me because I was "changing the economy".   Even a couple of game masters have asked how I got this much gold on my accounts.  I told them exactly how I did it.

Every transaction and every event gold related can raise and lower your reputation to both your server and other players.  Spreading out your sales will keep your competition wondering and keep you from becoming a target from malicious players.   Allowing you to keep the gold flowing into your accounts.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Time Management With Faction Grinding

Mommar here.

Mists of Pandaria opened up a plethora of factions to obtain experience with.   Golden Lotus,  Klaxxi,  The August Celestials.   All of them have your required door prizes of mounts,  and tabards and even raid quality gear.

But there are so many of them that they can eat up a lot of your time trying to finish them all.   Where you can get a certain amount of gold per turn in of quests,  no one wants to spend hours and hours attempting to finish every daily quest asked from each faction.   With each patch adding more dailies the mountain of reputation becomes impossible to climb.

This is where time management strategy is useful other than just running in to finish dailies.   Figuring out which factions are more beneficial to you and your future gold making will reap benefits quickly.  Blacksmiths will want to work on the Klaxxi to get access to higher level blacksmithing plans including the Masterwork Ghost Forged Blade.

Using resources such as Crafters Tome to plot out not just your mains path for faction leveling but also your
alternate toons.

Keep in mind that each of the factions have a tome that's purchasable at revered that will double the amount of reputation you receive with your other toons on the account.   So if you find yourself needing to double up on rep with future characters paying the price for them will make the reputation grind much easier.

Placing time constraints and concentrating on one or two factions to raise your reputation levels will keep you from getting burnt out on daily quests and allow you to enjoy the other parts of Mists of Pandaria.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Lost Pets for MOP:

Ahh memories

When I was grinding on my main in Sholazar Basin in Northrend  during Wrath of the Lich King,  I remember the set of daily quests that were given by the Oracles Faction.    Doing multiple days of dailies I finally reached revered with them and visited their quartermaster.  The prize was mine.  My First Mysterious Egg.

So why was this egg so important?   Wrath was the expansion that had a huge rush to gain new mounts.  From tigers to bears to proto-drakes.   Everyone wanted a new mount to fly around in the middle of their home city.

But the 2nd prize for opening these eggs (they took 7 days of sitting in your bags or bank to 'open' was what we will be concentrating on now.   After shortening the sitting time in your inventory to 3 days you could get:

Cobra Hatchling
Proto Drake Whelp
Tickbird Hatchling
White Tickbird Hatchling

Most players will burn through Sholazar Basin with their new toons,  and experienced players generally do not return to old areas they've been at.  So this is a win/win for us gold goblins.   Pets are going to be a huge gold mine,  and the more rare the pet the more gold they will be worth to train.  Occasionally you will get a yolk (get it,  the yolks on you) but either gaining them this way or flipping them from the AH will provide a nice cash income for your future pet training business.

The other pet area is the Ghostly Skull found in the sewers in Dalaran.

If you go to Darahir in the sewers you can purchase the Ghostly Skull for 10g.  Most players either didn't know about this pet (shhhhh don't tell them) or they don't realize that this pet will be cageable and saleable (and a caged skull,  how goth is that?)

There are other pets that will be saleable that are rare simply because of their placement in areas that noone ever goes to again.  Or that they take so long to finish up the quests that players will have moved on from the area never to return.   Taking advantage of these areas will up your pet gold making skills
and put you on the gold goblin elite list.

Edit-  09.09.12

Wanted to clarify one thing with this.  The Ghostly Skull isn't currently BOE,  it's still BOP and is not

Tradeable.   It will become tradeable when Mists of Pandaria opens up and you can place these trained
pets in cages and sold on the AH or via trade chat.   The pets from the Oracle eggs are currently BOE
and can be traded now.  But your profits will go higher if you wait til Mists of Pandaria and train them
a few levels before sales..

Good Luck and Good Hunting
