Rose By Any Other Name

Memory viewing Mommar here.

As I was playing Warcraft I met a young lady who also played.  We hit it off and started talking.   One of the things I wanted to impress her was my ability to find things in World of Warcraft.

This was during the Burning Crusade expansion where Dalaran was a blink in the developers eyes.   The girl had a thing for flowers.  So I did my research and saw that roses were very difficult to find in
the game.  At the time the only way to get these was to pickpocket them from mobs.  Most of these mobs were in places like Strathholme and Razorfen Downs.  But there was a nice spot up in the Hinterlands that you could pickpocket to your heart's content and get a large amount of them.

So I decided that I wanted to impress this girl with a dozen roses.   Having done a little research I went up to the hinterlands with my rogue and got busy to pick pocketing my dozen roses.  It took me a little bit under two hours to finish my project.   Then I got my picnic basket that I had won during one of the holidays.  Made an in game chocolate cake and went out to impress this girl.

Well to make a long story short.  I'm still single but she seemed to be mildly impressed.   So why tell you this story?    Because you never know what combination of items that you can get from different places can tell their own story.   From your banking toon being set up with the latest clothing options to just an interesting gift of hats you can have for a friend.   Everything can tell a story if you let it,  and a story is just as valuable as gold in your pocket.

So when you look to vendor an item in the next couple of weeks.   Think what stories you could be telling with that item.   Set it in your bank and someone might get a laugh out of it.  You might even score a kiss in the middle of Stormwind like I did.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

It's fun to say Arrrrrghh

Avast me hardies Captain Mommar is here.

It's only fitting that today is the unofficial holiday Talk Like A Pirate Day.  As Gold Goblins we can live a pirate life of grabbing gold,  and spending it on our own treasures and luxuries.  I would suggest never calling an Orc a 'wench' unless you want to meet the business end of a cutlass.

I was running through Maraudon with a group,   and was arriving to the last boss of the instance.   Princess Theradras used to be one of those bosses that I dreaded.   She was a tough battle with a nasty knock back attack.  Dying and having to make that long run back was something that I dreaded consistently.  This was when I was tanking for instances so I had a larger chance of dying without a good healer.

This time the group seemed to be mowing through mobs and mini bosses rather quickly.   Many of the players had BOA gear and gear that was overpowered for the instance.   Also being a DPS class this time around I was able to enjoy the run a little bit more.   So in the back of my mind I was remembering a song that I had seen a video for to this instance.

Now you can imagine as I'm trying to damage the targets this song is running on a continuous loop in my mind.   So a smile and laughter were peeling through the house.  Thankfully there was not Vent with the group or I would have some explaining to do.

As we are playing this game,  there are times that I wonder just how much fun people are having.  The idea of stopping and smelling the roses so to speak.   Veteran players have been through these instances four or five times as they have leveled.  Some have run these 100's of times looking for one item or another.   Performing the same task over and over can become tedious and we forget that this is a game.  It's meant for our enjoyment.   Anything less and there are other things to spend that 15 dollars a month on.

So today,  make sure to talk like a pirate somewhere.  Or talk like a wench if that is what you like to do.  But make sure to have some fun with this game.   That's what we're all here to do.

Good Luck and Good Fishing

Zombie Auctioning

Non zombie Mommar here.

I have a confession to make.  There are times that I get bored with listing things on the World of Warcraft auction house.   Now before everyone hyperventilates this is not to say that I am ready to turn in my Gold Goblin card (member 2007).

What I do sometimes fall into is the trap of just listing items without paying attention to their pricing.   I use add-ons that make listing items very quickly.   Where a key combination and mouse click will list that item at a set undercut price.   Some add-ons that will do this using a one mouse click system even (Trade Skill Manager is a prime example).   When you have hundreds of gems to list or hundreds of raw materials to list,  you want to cut every corner you can and get to the good stuff (raking in the gold from your mail).

But at times I will click and press buttons without paying direct attention to what something is listing at.   Most of the time this isn't a bad thing.  But at times you get someone who put a completely ludicrous price up on the Auction House for an item.   It is those times that zombie auctioning becomes a problem.   If you list that product undercutting the first original bad price.  Then another will follow thinking that will be the going rate for said item.   This upsets the balance in the warcraft economic system because players stop making a profit and will end up selling items at a loss.

So at times taking a deep breath can be beneficial.   You don't want to get caught into the upswell of quick listing where an item is dropped so low that you end up selling your crafted product at well less than their server value. Knowing a decent acceptable price and holding onto your products til the server
resets its value to that listing can net you more profit than just listing it without cause or reason.

The other thing to keep track of is your potential to be sucker punched by your zombie listing.   There are
players that enjoy collapsing profession listing for their own reasoning.   The Inscription profession had
this occurs on multiple servers.   The reasoning was never rationally applied to their listing,  but
players panicked and drove prices down lower and lower.   Players decided to abandon the Inscription
profession for higher profit areas.   This left a non competitive area that only a few controlled.

So before you start to drift off and click that next bid,  determine whether you're receiving the best profit you can for your item.  If you're not,  maybe it's time to set your listing price a little higher than the lowest bid.  Or if you're brave,   do the 'flipping the market' technique for bigger profits.

You are in control of your own listing process.   But just like the villagers dislike zombies,  the gold goblins tend to not be happy with zombie auctioning.

Good Luck and Good Zombie Hunting

KFC Ain't Got Nothing On Me

Mommar here.

During my adventures in leveling my goblin shaman,   I arrived in the Hinterlands.   I had run these quests before on one of my mains to obtain the Loremaster title.  Having run this area before I was not as surprised about the lower amount of quests than was available pre-cataclysm expansion.

As I was killing worgs for one of the opening quests a OOX-22/HL Distress Beacon dropped for me.   This is one of the three that are necessary to obtain the Mechanical Chicken Questline.

So after finishing the escort quest for the  OOX-22/HL Distress Beacon (at that level it wasn't that difficult) I continued to level.   Leaving a mental note I needed to finish the other two parts of the questline to obtain my new mechanical fowl.

Remembering that the other two parts of the quest are found in Tanaris (OOX-17/TN Distress Beacon)
and in Feralas (OOX-22/FE Distress Beacon) I knew I would need to make sure to visit those areas.   Since all three are random drops from mobs in those zones I had allotted a certain amount of time for grinding.

So why did I make the mental note to get this item?   I already have this on three of my characters,  but it's a very rare pet to obtain (most players don't have the patience to finish all three items plus the final trip to Booty Bay for the turnin).   With the Pet battles becoming available with Mists of Pandaria, rare pets can equal big profits both for collectors and trainers.

So I did a little searching for some information.  I knew that a couple of my toons didn't have the pet on them and wanted to see if I had completed any of the sections of the three quests.   A macro had been published in multiple journals to identify which ones of these quests had been completed.

The macro to check your progress is

1.  Type/copy/paste

/run f,z=CreateFrame('frame'),{[485]='The Hinterlands',[351]='Tanaris',[2766]='Feralas'};f:RegisterEvent('QUEST_QUERY_COMPLETE')

2.   Type/copy/paste

/run local s,t;f:SetScript('OnEvent',function() t=GetQuestsCompleted();for c,v in pairs(z) do if t[c] then s='' else s=' not' end print('You have'..s,'found OOX in',v) end end);QueryQuestsCompleted()

(You should create two macros for this so that you can continually check your progress on all your characters.  One macro will cause the functions to not work properly)

(Courtesy of the Stormspire forums Mechanical Chicken Guide)

This pet is a Bind on use pet,  but if you learn it you won't be able to trade it as cageable (you can battle with the pet,  but it won't able to be traded).  So your best bet is to sell it on the AH as a standard pet.   This is one of these pets that ultra collectors want and are willing to pay a good hefty sum for them (5000 to 10000 isn't unheard of on some servers).

The Stormspire guide does talk about how to set up a group to farm the pet.   To give them some link love I will ask you to go read that on there forums (it's an interesting read).

Continuing my progress with my shaman (I still detest running Maraudon),  I was enjoying both the leveling experience again and also finding new places I had forgotten to be able to make gold at.

Returning to old world areas can many times spark ideas that are tried and true.   And returning to those ideas can shore up Gold Goblin pocket-book as the Cataclysm expansion comes to an end and we welcome the invasion of the pandas with Mists of Pandaria.

Good Luck and Good Profiting
