As I was leveling my new Goblin Shaman (yes, I know I'm behind the times with just leveling a goblin) and was enjoying my trip through Azshara. Just hitting level 20 I finally got my trike so wasn't neding to run in wolf form everywhere (Levels 1-20 are the roughest, constantly missing my flight forms and my speed mounts).
Finishing up quests (including my first on level dungeon in a long time) the levels were passing me by. And the temptation was to go away from my regular plan to have a dual gathering talent til I hit the maximum level. At that time I usually will power level whatever professions I intend them to have (in this case it's another Engineer/Alchemist).
Staying on track and focus of plans isn't always the easiest. With the materials I gathered while leveling I could have leveled both of these professions rather easily. But not just tradition but good strategy kept me continuing to grind out the collection of herbs and minerals.
Players in the first few weeks will be paying extra for every mineral out there. This even includes the lowly copper and Peacebloom. Even the items that are received from drops will go for extra prices as starting players learn what gear they want, and purchase it at profitable prices.
The shape of the world always changes with the release of a new expansion. With a new influx of players as well as established players returning and leveling new classes and races. There is a fresh air that flies into the goblin noses of fresh money and fresh pockets to be relieved of coins.
As my shaman blasted his way through Shadowfang keep with 4 others, I was also reminded of the good old days. Seeing treasure chests (the one we couldn't open because we didn't have a rogue) made me smile with memories of leveling all my other toons. The people you meet and the people you enjoy playing this game with.
So less than three weeks and we all get to explore the same places with different eyes, and hopefully enjoy the memories, while making new ones.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

On the master list of making gold in World of Warcraft, farming is the second easiest way of making gold right behind questing. It can become a very simple way of collecting materials to sell either to cartel members or to the open market. The only cost is your time and the occasional repair bill if you farm at the wrong place or time (PVP servers are especially nasty at this).
Any of the classes can be adequate farmers. As long as you're able to get to a place that is abundant with materials to sell, you can become a farmer with just a flick of a mental switch. Where it isn't required to have a dedicated farmer for your personal cartel, it gives you a leg up on the competition when materials are not available. Being able to farm items as you quest in new lands gives a new wrinkle into your collection of profits.
When looking at your farming structure you have normally three different types of farmers. The Herbalist, the Miner and the Skinner. In my structure I've added a 4th one which is my disenchanter/item hunter. The reason that I believe there should be a distinction in our setup is that farming lower level instances can be very rewarding for both enchanting materials, as well as vanity items to sell on the Auction House. My Disenchanter/Hunter is my Blood Elf Warlock. It's important to have your enchanter be able to AOE mobs in low level instances instead of having to kill one or two at a time. Druids or Mages are extra strong in these areas.
Currently my setup for my farmers consists of my hunter class having the skinning and mining professions. My other farmer that handles my disenchantments and herbalist duties is a Druid. Druids are especially beneficial for Herbalism due to the fact they stay in flight form to pick herbs. This gives you the ability to be onto the next farming spot while the competition has to wait the 3 seconds to activate their mount (add to this reaction time and you have a good 4-5 seconds head start from the competition). When areas such as Wintergrasp were heavily farmed for materials, this gave me almost an unfair advantage over the other farming classes. Also included was the ability to switch into melee (Cat form and Bear form) as well as having a Boomkin setup (Thunderchicken) for those times I needed to defend my routes.
Your mining and skinning toon selection becomes more of a personal choice of play style than any added advantage. Hunters, Druids and Warlocks have continual longer ranges for their attacks, plus with AOE capabilities they can go through multiple enemies quickly. Warriors tend to be the weakest in farming due to the need for up close combat. For personal selection the Death Knight can be one of the strongest farmers, or the weakest. Play style becomes a factor with many of the classes.
Dedicated Famers gives you a good boost in your time management and much needed materials for your other crafters. Whether you have all four farming disciplines covered. At minimum having a farmer that is linked to what other crafting professions you have with other toons. Having a Blacksmith becomes stronger with a Miner. An alchemy business becomes that much more lucrative with an herbalist in tow.
This is where I usually break from the norm. Profession bags can become expensive. Each level of bags tends to become more and more exorbitant in costs. The High slot bags can cost 1000 of gold based on supply and demand.
But if you lower your amount of slots a good amount of savings can be made. The [Triple Reinforced Bag] (36 slots) costing 1500g. Looking at one of the lower bags, the 28 slot Trapper's Traveling Pack can be found at half the cost. Bag slots were important before Guild Banks became available. Now the larger amount of slots becomes more of a convenience than a necessity.
Your farmer should be prepared from the start with the magical Gnomish Army Knife. Besides bags this is going to be your best investment. Buying enough now while they are inexpensive will benefit you since they will rise in prices with Mist of Pandaria.
The biggest preparation you can do is to have your material farming routes planned out. Wowhead always has good information on where certain items can be found. Whether it's a weapon or an herb, players are your best assets to finding routes to quickly obtain product materials. A combination of Knowledge and time will put your profits on the upturn.
Farming is going to continue to be strong, and setting your mind to a specific structure will allow you to pick, process and obtain gold at your own pace.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

Enchanting
All rods were removed, everything now uses a Copper Rod.
This is one of the reasons that a good gold goblin will keep an eye on these build updates. The loss of sales from Rods with MOP will cut a lot into both stockpiling and continual sales. Low end rods such as silver rods and eternium rods were very popular to flip for easy profits.
This is one of the reasons why I'm a proponent of keeping your stockpiling materials liquid as much as possible. Goblins who crafting rods ahead of time will need to liquidate their stockpiles quickly. Goblins to left the materials to craft the rods in it's raw form will be able to shift those items into other lanes of profit.
Don't be suprised if this isn't the last change that Blizzard will do to professions to balance out crafting for new players. It's already been established that low level items in all of the professions will generate multiple points for production. Speeding up the leveling process for new players to get into the higher level crafted items.
In the next few weeks when we get closer to a finished patch there will be more and more changes that could effect how profits will be obtained from stockpiling. Also look next week for my master list of items to stockpile before MOP releases.
Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Blizzard has announced the different events they are planning during Gamescon 2012, including the world first playing of the intro to Mists of Pandaria.
With each tidbit of information that is offered, the opening to the gates to Pandaria comes closer and closer. And so closing of sales routes and limiting inventory will become much more important.
I've been talking more and more about how collecting inventory to resell at the beginning of the new expansion will be more important. But just as important will be the limiting of production of items that will not sell between now and the beginning of MOP.
Two options are presented the closer that we get to the panda invasion. You can begin to look to turn around inventory at reduced rates. It is important to make sure that you are keeping a close eye on what is and isn't selling.
Take the Extreme Impact Hole Puncher that I have sold consistently since it's introduction.
Production costs have always hovered around the 3-4k (less if I produce the items on alts) and sold at the start easily for 11k+. The closer that MOP comes, the lower I will drop the prices to make sure that I do not get caught up with extra inventory.
Jewelcrafting will find this is very important. The lower blue gems (Nightstones etc). will still be important for players rolling new jewelcrafters. Other items such as Inferno Rubies will continue to lose value due to lack of demand. Inventory control will give you both added space for your investment items, and generate quick sales without the fear of losses in the future.
Closing all sales and liquidating inventory is possible at this point. This would guarantee no losses but also could limit the continual gold stream that is still available. Knowing your markets and selling to them is going to be the driving force of your continued gold goblin empire.
Will you wait til the announcement of the introduction date for MOP? Or start to close your sales route now to play it safe?
Good Luck and Good Hunting
