MOP Prep: Setting the Lineup

I grew up loving baseball.   Having been a lifelong Cubs fan (you can insert your pity here now) I have watched the same foibles played out time after time.

One thing that any monday morning manager will tell you,  the manager needs to change the lineup for success.  The guy that fumbled the night before needs to do down to AAA and be replaced by the up and coming player to be named later.

Warcraft is a little different in the idea that you are always in control of what sells and what is produced.  But your lineup is just as important as any baseball manager.    Which toons will you be leveling first?  What crafts will you be leveling first?  Should you double up on certain professions.

A gold goblin has to answer these questions.   With MOP almost upon us it's more important than anything to have your profession lineup starting to come together.

I will give you the lineup I'm using for my prepping for MOP.

(I've left out some of my players names because I might be the one that's undercutting you that day).

Druid X -   Alchemist/Herbalist  -  (has fast flight form)
MorphineDrip -  Jewelcrafter/Alchemist
ShamanX  - Jewelcrafter/Engineer
Mommar-   Blacksmith/Leatherworker
Moliono -  Inscriptionist/Herbalist
Mosiac -  Tailoring/Enchanter
CurdledMilk - Banking toon (parked in Thunder Bluff)
Moonpye -  Banking toon  (Parked in Tanaris)
Deathknightx  -  Engineer/jewelcrafter
Move  - Miner/Skinner

I decided that my leveling will be switched between my Hunter (Move) and my Blacksmith   Leatherworker (Mommar).  This is how I leveled when cataclysm first was introduced.  All my production items were sent to the appropriate craftsman to allow them to level quickly.  Remember that with Catalcysm it was needed to have at least one 83 to access some of the materials necessary to level the Inscription Profession.   It's possible the Blizzard producers will do the same for Mists of Pandaria.

Recently I did some changing to my lineup by dropping Mining from MorphineDrip and leveling another Jewelcrafter.   This is simply to double my ability to obtain Gem patterns and tokens faster.  Also I added MorphineDrip as an Alchemist to double my opportunity at daily transmutes.   Both of them will be transmute specialist.

In my lineup my workhorses are the Druid for the Herbalism and Move for the mining and skinning.  My lineup also has in it my two bank toons (one for the regular AH in Thunder bluff and the joint AH in tanaris.   This gives me access to both quickly for Arbitrage between the two factions.

These changes to my lineup ended up in investments of around 20k,   which may seem a lot but I will recoup my losses quickly by having the access to the double transmutes and the quicker jewelcrafting turn around.

So why did I choose to present this part of the plan first?   To build a goblin gold fortification you need your base.  And your placement of characters and professions are your base.

One thing,   this tip might seem to be placed towards those that have lots of gold to play with.  But it's just as important from the start of your gold empire to have your lineup planned out from the start.   You should play a toon that you will enjoy playing,  and professions that you can see will become valuable both to your personal usage as well as gold making skill.    Having one toon be the workhorse for your farming will add flexibility to your other toons and their ability to craft valuable items.  It's possible to make large amounts of gold without any type of farmer,  but it becomes more difficult if stocks begin to dwindle.

What other combinations would be useful to have for MOP?

Prepping for MOP: Dinner Improbable

Next to First aid,  Cooking tends to get ignored unless your a raider,  or in the gold making business.   Most players who decide to level their cooking will level one,  maybe two of their toons to maximum and then the rest end up getting ignored.

With the introduction of Mists of Pandaria this idea may have to change.  Especially if you have a gold goblin heart like mine.   MOP is introducing specialization into the mix.   There is limited information but all the comments from the developer posts point to at least 5 different specializations.   Any time specialization is mentioned,  or limited recipes.  The goblin should look at how to get to those recipes the fastest.

Ultimately one toon will be able to specialize in everything (possibly even an achievement).  But that will take a dedicated amount of time.   But now is the time to plan ahead to grab those recipes and be one of the first on the market.

We have approximately 2 to 3 months til the introduction of MOP.   That gives at least 40-50 days to level up cooking.   Most players by now have leveled multiple toons up to 85.  So now is a good time to firm up your cooking (and even fishing) skills to make sure your ready to finish the new cooking dailies in MOP.  Even if you don't level that toon immediately,  Cataclysm opened up the ability for a lower level player to gain cooking points through the dailies.  Having your alternate toons begin to level cooking through the daily cooking quests in Orgrimmar and Stormwind will place you in the drivers seat to be able to continue on.   Using the dailies (and the Darkmoon Faire cooking quests) will give you the cooking points,  without the need to use items you are saving for MOP (many of the foods will still be in demand come MOP for leveling cooking on new players).

If you haven't done the Darkmoon Faire cooking quests.  Just pick up 5 [simple flour] from one of the cooking vendors in your home city,  then go to 52,6.68 on your mini map at the Darkmoon Faire. Batter the frogs,  throw them into the pot and you have your 5 easy earned cooking points.

The goal is to end up being around the 510 mark for cooking before Mists arrive.   Being at max cooking (525) will open up more opportunities and should be very easily finished.

Here is some of the base information from the betas on the cooking.  More can be added or subtracted
as we continue to get closer.

The object of this is to allow each of your 5 maximum leveled cooking toons to follow one of the other paths to give you access to all the recipes as soon as possible.  Later on once you have learned one line of cooking,  you can start to pick up another and begin to retire your other cooks.

Access to recipes as quickly as possible will become important to obtain sales to raiders and players
as they run through dungeons and heroics.  Adding more gold into your goblin hearted pockets.

Loot Rule changes in MOP

While looking at the new loot rules for Looking for Raid   A thought that blitzed through my head was how this would start to effect high end enchant mats.

The new rules basically will allow more direct options to the party.  And making spec specific items available to the winner of the random role.   For an extended period of time this will make less "junk" roles for items that no one can use per run.   If a hunter wins the role,  then a hunter specific item will be chosen from the loot table for that boss.   If a warrior tank wins the roll,  then a tanking specific item will be chosen.   (for more information look at the detailed description from ghostcrawler here).

So how will this effect enchanting materials?  Once Jewelcrafters/Enchanters discovers the next obsidium/elementium shuffle, creating a large amount of the low and mid level Mists of Pandaria enchanting materials that will be found on the AH.   The new rules begin to sound like they will have a large change on the high end materials.

Currently if noone in a raid wants an item,   and an enchanter is in the party,  the Disenchant option becomes available and the DE'd material is rolled on equally.   Usually either being added to the guild bank for later enchanting needs,  or sold on the open market.   Adding more materials to purchase and to sell/resell.

With the more exacting changes,  the Auction house will see less of the high level enchanting materials.   Putting many of the high level materials at a premium price (more than they were when the first maelstrom crystals and heavenly shards became available in cataclysm).

Since these right now will only effect Looking for raid runs,  it won't have as much of an effect at the beginning of MOP.   Epic enchants weren't released until later patches in every warcraft expansion.  But ultimately it will have a shift in the cost of enchants,  and the availability of enchanting materials.

How can the greedy goblin take advantage of this?   The first thing that an enchanter will end up doing is to DE everything they can from MOP. Quest rewards can develop a large cache of enchanting materials for sale.  If your goal is pure money then placing as many of these items up on the AH for sale should net a high profit.   Later on when the mass rush to level professions have subsided you can repurchase materials to level your own crafting.

The other option is to use the enchanting materials gained from disenchanting your quest rewards and random drops to level up your professions,  then selling the excess for profit on the AH or as materials for purchased enchants.

As the beta starts to reveal itself more,   the strategies that are built now will propel you to your goals
and to higher stacks of gold.

Good luck and good hunting

The race is on

It's almost here.    Your Warcraft world is about to change.... again.   Are you prepared????

Mmo-champion.com and other websites have started the rush of information.  New stats,  new classes,  new glyphs,  new gear.   The list is endless,  and just like every expansion previously,  a gold goblin will sift through the information to find that little tidbit that will increase their profits.

In the next few weeks we will talk about specific areas to look to farm when MOP opens up.   What to collect,  how to get the most bang for your buck.   But there is one thing right now that will make your life much easier in the long run.  And with any beta,  information can change by the minute as new builds are released,  and new areas are explored.  But there is one thing that you can do right now that will put you ahead of everyone else.

Go to your local store,  buy yourself a notebook and prepare to make copious amounts of notes.    The small pieces of info to the large pieces of info.   From our website,   from forums,   even from your friend that you talk over a beer.   Each little piece of information that you get,  write it down,   and get ahead of everyone else.

Every expansion since Burning Crusade I opened up a new notebook to start taking notes.   dividing it into areas that I was the most comfortable with.  Why?   Because information is power.   And the more information you have,  the more power you have to offer others.   Whether it's the small bit of info on where to find small eggs.  to finding raptor meat,  skins,  metals etc.  Each part of the puzzle creates the mosaic of your gold making pattern.

Will this be required to make gold in MOP?   Not really,   the inflation of quest rewards and more gold being available will make higher and higher gold plateaus available.    Where 1 million gold is a very high goal for many,   don't be surprised if  it becomes more commonplace.   But as with anything,  the more gold available,  the more specialty items will cost.   And ultimately more demand on skills that pay the billz.   That's really what we're all here to do isn't it?

So go get that notebook,  get your favorite pen and get ready for the race.   Don't get left behind.

Good luck and good hunting
