I have never fooled myself into the belief that I am the best World of Warcraft player around.  Over the years I have become better at playing certain toons.  But there is one class that has escaped my ability to be anything more than subpar.

Just like the majority of players,  when Blizzard introduced the Death Knight I ran out and rolled one as quickly as I could.  Starting to level her (I chose a Tauren Death Knight) It ended up feeling like a spam fest to me.  I would learn a rotation only to have it changed with another patch.  Doing my due diligence I researched the different options and playstyles to see which one would end up being the least complicated.

If you have been seeing some of the videos that get posted up,  Death Knights seem to be able to solo anything.  Even before the end of Cataclysm they were shown soloing bosses.  They were unstoppable in PVP and every raid group seemed to want to have at least one DK in their pocket for tanking duties.   But my poor lowly DK was feeling left out because she was crippled by the guy behind the keyboard controlling her.

As I was going through my toons again it struck me that other than selling pets and a few supplies I hadn't played my DK through either Cataclysm or Mists of Pandaria.  7 other toons got my attention while my little dead eyed girl sat in Dalaran waiting for her chance.  One that probably wasn't going to happen in the near future.

Everyone has lost toons.  Ones that struck a fancy for a bit but weren't as enjoyable as they seemed at the start.  Deciding whether to delete them to roll another class,  or just let them sit in the hopes that they can be entertaining again after tweaking and changes.  The decision to delete can be a tough one.  Especially if they are the link to your storage guild you have then sitting in.  What is the payment that I am willing to make to change class and toons.  I could take all of the materials in the guild and mail it to another toon.  After that delete my mad cow and then roll another toon.  Then find another guild,  buy all 7 slots and then reload all of the materials back into the guild.  

This would seem like a huge waste of gold and time just because I'm not feeling like bringing out the uber god of death to the field of play.   But then I could always suck it up and see what the thrill that other players are finding.   Level her to 90 and the go PVP with her?   Let her run around when I"m bored and smack mobs for farming duties.   Re-purposing her from sitting on her buns and let her wreck havoc.

It is also not like I need to make these decisions now.  There is nothing wrong with having her sit a little bit longer deciding if I want to keep her or not.  I already have the other 10 toons to babysit for one reason or another.  But the longer she sits there without any purpose,  the farther she will need to level once it's her time to come out and play.

Decisions decisions decisions.  But isn't this just another part of the game along with making gold?

MOP Prep: PokeWOW Part 2.

Once again... Here's Mommar  (I really should get a sidekick to announce me).

Part 1 of MOP Prep:  PokeWOW talked about engineering pets.     This next part is going to talk about the vendor pets as well as my overall strategy towards pet making.

For many servers it's going to be a smorgasbord of choices on what will sell.   Some players are going to look for power (Min/Max points) on their more powerful pets to put on the field.  Others are going to make with what they like the most (Dragons,  birds, Cats etc).   The goal is to be ready to sell to
all of them.

Knowing where to obtain pets to sell is going to be very important.  Knowledge is power,  in this case it's going to be sales power.  Players generally do not take the time to look up things on WowHead.  They will either ask in trade channel (getting pummeled many times by chants of noob or loser),  or they will depend on the Auction House and Trade Channel Barking.

Vendor pets will sell to those that are uninformed (or unmotivated) to go and obtain their own.   Especially if they are trained one or two levels.   An untrained pet will not obtain as much of a price as one that a player has taken   This is going to be very important for your exotic or hard to find pets.

For our pet business we're going to work on a pyramid system.   Starting from the bottom our bread and butter pets are going to be easily obtained vendor pets.  Pets such as

Anaconda Chicken  (Plucky Johnson in 1000 Needles)

Blue Clockwork Rocket Bot (Multiple vendors in Dalaran and Stormwind/Orgrimmar)

Ghostly Skull  (Darahir in the sewers of Dalaran)

Tree Frog  (Flik During the Darkmoon Faire.)

Winterspring Cub (Michelle De Rum in Winterspring)

(You can find information on http://www.petbattles.net/ which has a breakdown of exactly what pets can be traded and battled and which ones cannot).

My next plank of my Pet pyramid is made based on hard to obtain pets.   These are the ones that either are more difficult to find,  or in places that players no longer go too (read Lost Pets for MOP)


So lets take a look at 5 rare pets that I'm looking at training and trading.
First I choose 5 of the pets I have to sell

Giant Sewer Rat (Rare fishing Capture)

Magical Crawdad (Rare Fishing Capture

Pengu (obtained at Kalu'ak Quartermaster at Exalted)

Phoenix Hatchling (Rare Drop at Magister's Terrace)

Razzashi Hatchling (Rare Drop from Stranglethorn Vale) 

Obviously these are going to get a premium because of how rare they are (not impossible,  but to obtain 
them either the player has to put in their time,  or purchase them at a higher price).  There are more but 
this is a sample of the ones that I'm looking at specifically.   Some of these (such as Razzashi Hatchling)
can be obtained from the AH already.  Investing in these now will offer returns once demand increases.

Next plank on our Pet Pyramid is going to be our Arbitrage trading.   Arbitrage is taking advantage of 
that are limited or unobtainable by one side of a market.  In this case it's both pets sold by the Horde
(or alliance).  Also included are pets that are obtained in areas that are limited traffic.  These include

Blue Dragonhawk Hatchling  (Horde Pet from Dealer Rashaad in Silvermoon)

Brown Prairie Dog (Horde Pet from Halpa in Thunder Bluff)

Cornish Rex (Alliance Pet from Donni Anthania just outside Stormwind)

Leaping Hatchling (Obtained in Takk's Nest in Northern Barrens)

Our next level is the crafted pets I can create from my other toons.   These include

Pet Bombling  (Engineering pattern From Gnomeregan)

Mechanical Squirrel Box  (Learned through Engineering)

De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion (Engineering Pet)

Enchanted Lantern (crafted by Horde Enchanters) (Magic Lamp is the Alliance Version)

Planning and discipline will become very important.   Knowing what pets are able to be traded and which ones will not is going to set you ahead of the majority of players.   A wonderful database has been created at http://www.petbattles.net/.    This is an excellent database on which pets can be traded and which ones cannot.  

Also included in my strategy is going to be banking on the possibility of allowing wild pets to ultimately be traded at some future spot.  So as I roam in different areas both in Azeroth and Pandaria,  my intentions are to pick up peculiar or interesting pets for possible sale later.

Each of these planks is from my own personal strategy.   They don't guarantee success,  nor is it required for you to have them for your own pet battle strategy.   Similar to the Transmogrification item market.  Much of the gold making possibilities are dependent on the server you are on,  and the interest your fellow players show in the new pet battle system.

Tools such as www.petbattles.net and http://www.wowuction.com are going to be necessary to keep ahead of the tide of sales.   Veteran players who have gold are already purchasing the pets they are interested in training.  With new players entering the fray,  new money will follow them and purchasing will continue to pick up.  Keeping a finger on the pulse of your server will be paramount to your success.

MOP brings an exciting idea of pet combat.   And with it a new area of moneymaking opportunity.   So get your plans together,   go buy and craft those pets and be ready to go from the start.

Players tend to find the easiest way between two points.    Whether it's getting a port to a new city from mages or having another person with a two person mount take you to a new spot.

But when it comes to us gold goblins,  we depend on the unmotivated players to buy items to use for
crafting.   Players either end up not knowing where something is found,  or not wanting to run all the
way to the vendor to buy it for themselves.   And all of this "convenience" comes at a price.   

These are sometimes simple items on the Auction House such as Plain Wooden Staff that is used to create the level 85 staves

Silver Inlaid Staff
Rosethorn Staff

Even in Mists of Pandaria these simple sticks will be used for the two upgradable staffs that are made by scribes (these staffs are bound to account)

Ghost Iron Staff  upgrades to Inscribed Tiger Staff
Rain Poppy Staff upgrades to Inscribed Crane Staff or Inscribed Serpent Staff

(The staves are only upgradeable by scribes,  but able to be passed to any toon on the same account)

Many times players will look for Dust of Disappearance on the AH instead of purchasing it from the vendor themselves.   This will undoubtedly apply similar to Tome of the Clear Mind during the Mists of Pandaria expansion.   Players looking to change glyphs or to change talents will want many of these items on the spot..  Convenience always equals extra cash from the Auction House and from players.

Items such as the Warbot Iginition Key that players can buy in Dalaran and the major cities at the toy shops are selling for 2-4x their cost from the Auction House.   All for the sake of convenience to the player,  and profit to the seller.

There is a long list of these items that you can resell for a profit.  Vendor recipes (check here for a list)
all the way to Techniques sold to scribes from Dalaran and Twilight Highlands.   Players pay a premium price to save time and effort.

An argument can be easily made that this is taking advantage of the players.  That gold goblins should not prey on the uninformed or the unmotivated.  But Convenience stores have been doing it for years.   Paying 2-3 dollars extra for your favorite adult beverage instead of going to the local grocery store.   How players decide to make their gold is up to you.   Caveat Emptor (Let the buyer beware for the Latin uninformed) must be the guide for your sales.

Bumping up your sales with these items can add a bridge to your other professions.  The bridge that leads to more profits,  and more enjoyment of the gold you make.

Ahh memories


When I was grinding on my main in Sholazar Basin in Northrend  during Wrath of the Lich King,  I remember the set of daily quests that were given by the Oracles Faction.    Doing multiple days of dailies I finally reached revered with them and visited their quartermaster.  The prize was mine.  My First Mysterious Egg.

So why was this egg so important?   Wrath was the expansion that had a huge rush to gain new mounts.  From tigers to bears to proto-drakes.   Everyone wanted a new mount to fly around in the middle of their home city.

But the 2nd prize for opening these eggs (they took 7 days of sitting in your bags or bank to 'open' was what we will be concentrating on now.   After shortening the sitting time in your inventory to 3 days you could get:

Cobra Hatchling
Proto Drake Whelp
Tickbird Hatchling
White Tickbird Hatchling

Most players will burn through Sholazar Basin with their new toons,  and experienced players generally do not return to old areas they've been at.  So this is a win/win for us gold goblins.   Pets are going to be a huge gold mine,  and the more rare the pet the more gold they will be worth to train.  Occasionally you will get a yolk (get it,  the yolks on you) but either gaining them this way or flipping them from the AH will provide a nice cash income for your future pet training business.

The other pet area is the Ghostly Skull found in the sewers in Dalaran.

If you go to Darahir in the sewers you can purchase the Ghostly Skull for 10g.  Most players either didn't know about this pet (shhhhh don't tell them) or they don't realize that this pet will be cageable and saleable (and a caged skull,  how goth is that?)

There are other pets that will be saleable that are rare simply because of their placement in areas that noone ever goes to again.  Or that they take so long to finish up the quests that players will have moved on from the area never to return.   Taking advantage of these areas will up your pet gold making skills 
and put you on the gold goblin elite list.

Wanted to clarify one thing with this.  The Ghostly Skull isn't currently BOE,  it's still BOP and is not 
Tradeable.   It will become tradeable when Mists of Pandaria opens up and you can place these trained
pets in cages and sold on the AH or via trade chat.   The pets from the Oracle eggs are currently BOE
and can be traded now.  But your profits will go higher if you wait til Mists of Pandaria and train them
a few levels before sales..
