If you want to refer to my 'career' with World of Warcraft, I should be thankful to many of the people I have met in and out of the game itself. There are people even to this day that I consider close friends, others that I have had the honor of meeting even if it was for a fleeting moment.

But then some weeks tend to be more difficult than others. To the point that you start to wonder whether the reputation, gold and experience is truly worth it. As I have said before, I am running some of the older Mists of Pandaria raids for gold and reputation. There is this mental itch I have that when I see a non exalted reputation I must finish it off. In this case I do all of the Throne of Thunder raids i can get during the week. These raids include the dreaded LFR that everyone finds so tasty on the brain.

Most of the time these go off without a hitch. Poke Durumu in the eye with a big pointy stick, ride Tortos like a bronco even get a little shock to the system with Lei Shen.

But this week seemed to be a cavalcade of grumpy players. Players looking to pick fights for the smallest problem. Then a full blown meltdown if there was a wipe. Remember this content was the new shiny raids not 6 months ago. Most players are overgeared for the content, but there is still a certain amount of possibility of dying a horrid game death. But no one really signs on to be the target of someone's abuse.

Having spent easily 10,000g on repairs over the years I have been playing, seeing a raid fail to a boss is a normal experience. You just pick up, look to see what can be fixed and move on. If nothing can be solved, then it is time to leave the raid and go find something else to do. But there are times I feel I am in the minority when it comes to this attitude.

Noob, idiot, *&*$ and other words that would get you punched out in the real world get slung around as normal conversation. My raid can joke with me and tell me I'm weak sauce, but everyone has their limits. Lately my patience to have to listen to people go off for silly reasons has become less and less. Most of the time players will just direct it at the random player, but occasionally someone will shoot their mouth in my general direction. One raid i ended up dying due to poor tanking/healing and was accused of taking 'too much damage'. If I had failed in the mechanics I would have completely agreed with them. The wise player knows they are never 100% perfect, but in this case every movement out of raid damage was done correctly. Seemed this player also didn't understand how an arms warrior works when well geared. Hearing 'why is the warrior doing so much AOE damage' finally got me to respond. After explaining in a slow, precise matter that an arms warrior has 3 different cleaves that automatically go off you will get AOE damage. Along with this explanation was the fact that this player needed to be more worried about their low dps (under 100k) than putting the blame on everyone but their own shoulders.

Later this bothered me not because of the words I had used. What bothered me was that I had let his rash silliness get to me and take away my enjoyment of the raid. There will always be hotheads, always be players that troll for attention. There will always be players to be carried with a dps wheelbarrow. Raid wipes will occur no matter the skill of a group. But my attitude is what I choose it to be. I can choose to react or I can choose to walk away. Either choice is viable and functional.

The same goes for the good days and bad days of making gold. Our attitudes attach themselves to whether we can be successful or not. Making lots of gold is fun. Making lots of gold in the game without losing all mental sanity is even better. So enjoy the game with a good spirit and less stress. And remember there is always the choice to turn off the game and take a breath. It is a game and you make the choice of what attitude you bring.

Over the months I have given a lot of grief to the powers that be that they need to update many of the best holidays in World of Warcraft. Just adding a few holiday bosses would add a lot to the draw of these older holidays.

The Lunar Festival is not one on my list that needs to be updated. There is already a world boss, Omen Having been around in the old days of watching him wipe out entire raids quickly and seeing multiple people needing to run back to take another whack at him brings the way world bosses used to feel. Not to just kill a boss because he dropped great loot, but simply because that is what you did with friends.

As I was flying around on one of my characters picking up the different Festival elders for the holiday and collecting Coins of Ancestry. I still had all of the frilly dresses that you could purchase with the coins in my bank so my major interest in getting coins on all of my toons was for the Festival Lanterns. When these first came out they were a hot commodity to transfer to an alliance toon/buddy and sell for obscene amounts of gold. Now the transfer over to the opposite faction is much easier since pet books are linked across factions and across servers.

Setting aside the quest for gold (I know, blasphemy here) but this holiday is just beautiful to see and enjoy. From dropping into a alliance controlled zone to pick up a coin to looking at the coordinates you downloaded from the guide to figure out the fastest way to get to the next zone. Combining this with the occasional pick-up of pets that I didn't have it becomes a change of pace from just running Timeless Isle and Siege of Orgrimmar.

Where many people are stuck inside from the latest blitz of cold weather finding something that brings warmth and joy is important. Escapism is the biggest draw for Warcraft and this holiday is the best place to escape from.

Take this weekend and stop and smell the Lunar Festival. Not just for the profit, but just because this is one of the most enjoyable holidays of the Warcraft Calender.

On the server reset day I tend to be a busy little Azerothian beaver. Pushing 5 toons through Ordos and Celestial runs can fill up a lot of time. Add to this list wanting to finish up the epic quest line for my hunter, which ends up running TOT looking for raid runs when they pop up. Also include my timeless isle farming, plus two favorite shows being on TV I tend to stay busy on Tuesdays.

Then things start to slow down into the normal questing grind and picking up spot flex raid runs during the week. By Saturday night or Sunday I have started to need a palette cleanser of sorts. I have said before that I tend to keep Sunday's open to running old instances and raids for fun and profit.

One of the things I wanted to pick up before Warlords of Draenor was a Hellreaver Polearm before the next expansion. When this first dropped while leveling it was the coolest thing to lug around. Being the time well before Transmogrification was available to players I had to Vendor it to clear out some bag space. Now with a large amount of spaces to put things I finally picked up another one by soloing Hellfire Ramparts. Then proceeding to work on my Raids that I wanted specific items from I went over to Northrend to run the Eye of Eternity. Two Mounts, Reins of the Azure Drake and Reins of the Blue Drake drop from here. As I was finishing up with smacking Malygos around the achievement You Don't Have An Eternity popped up as completed. This was one of those achievements that I had forgotten about and had never completed during the Wrath of the Lich King expansion.

Popping up the Achievement browser I started eyeballing through all of the achievements that I had not completed. Little bits and pieces started jumping out at me of items I could complete. These didn't offer any gold or mounts or titles for myself. Finishing them would purely be of the 'yay, I did that' variety of life.

As I was running around and flying in a different area I ended up getting tied into a Wintergrasp fight. It had been a long time to be in Wintergrasp, but six of us got together and whooped some Alliance around the field of battle. Then I decided to give a try to finish up the Earth, Wind and Fire (10 man) achievement. This is the achievement that you have to kill all four bosses inside the instance within 60 seconds of each other. After doing a quick lookup I gave it a try. Failing miserably (don't worry true believers I killed them all but couldn't get them all together in a pack to smack them around inside the 60 seconds).

There are plenty of other achievements that are floating around the World of Warcraft for players to finish up. Instance, raid and even PVP achievements sitting there ripe for the picking and completing. So the next time you get bored and sitting in your home city go run out somewhere and look up what achievements you can finish. Not just for gold, but purely for the enjoyment of the game.

It's Childrens Weak... I Mean Week

When I first started playing World of Warcraft there were certain yearly events that I looked forward to. Children's Week was one of them. Looking at how you obtained the different pets i knew that this was not going to be a smash and grab type of event. Originally there were three pets and that it would take three years to complete.

The first pet I obtained from finishing up the Children's Week Death march through Azeroth and Outland was One Eyed Willie (now boringly known as Sleepy Willy). Lots of entertainment and laughter was brought the first raid into Karazhan with all of our newly received pets leading the charge.

The next year I finished up the run to obtain my second favorite crack addicted pet Eggbert. How many times this little idiot looked like he was going to aggro mobs in a raid (there was always that fear even if we knew better that somehow there would be a glitch and the little twerp would cause us to die hard that round).

Onward through the next year I obtained Elekk Training Collar. The Cataclysm expansion brought some changes to the quest hub through Azeroth but it still had the same feel of go here, dance a jig, go here, buy something etc. Even the allure of selling ice cream in the middle of your home city for exhorbant fees lost its charm when it could be easily obtained.

With the introduction of account bound pets, the game has taken it's final toll on what has become a chore of a holiday. If you have all of the pets (which I have) then you can finish up the quest line for the enjoyment but there is no end reward other than 25 pet biscuits while amusing loses the charm of another pet. With the quick introduction of patches and new content it may be time for Blizzard to revamp another world event to give more enjoyment to the masses.

Now onto the fun of making gold. After that gloom and doom intro, Children's Week can be a money making venture if you think outside the box. With quest lines that require Ice Cream (Tigule And Foror's Strawberry Ice Cream, many players will be looking to the Auction House to pick these up quick. There is a vendor in both Stormwind and Orgrimmar but people tend to be lazy when it comes to items such as this. It will not make you tons of gold but you could obtain a certain amount of beer money as you continue on.

The other item to look at doing is if you have a two person mount to give guided tours. Especially in Outland it's a long trek for some players since they haven't unlocked all of the areas. Lower level new characters may be willing to throw a few gold pieces your way for a guided tour as you are obtaining your pets.

Throwing Rocks At Pets

Patch 5.1 is on the horizon, and it brings a new wrinkle to the pet battle game.

With the new patch there are stones that will be dropping from wild pets and pet tamers that will allow you to upgrade pets. Many of the are BoP so won't be able to be resold (though the upgraded pets will be able to be upgraded).

The stone that should be looked at for investment purposes is the Flawless Battle Stones. These are the only stones that are being added into the game that are BOE. Their investment potential is going to be based on three different criteria.

1. Strength of Pet Battles on the Server.

Just like investing in PVP or PVE items for resell. A server has to have a strong pet battle scene to be healthy. The best way to look at this is at http://www.wowprogress.com and see where your server ranks. If your server is weak on pet battles, then the sales opportunities for Flawless Battle Stones will be low.

2. Cost and rarity of stones

Even in a healthy pet battle scene on a server, some players are stingy on reselling items. This will be the first item other than caged pets that will be available for sales on the open market. Players might want to hold onto them and see just where the market lies. Or instead of sales, use the stones to strengthen their own pet army.

3. Auction house issues.

Many of the auction addons had difficulty handling caged pets. This had to do mostly with the way that Blizzard tagged the cages to be different that the uncaged pets for sale. It is possible that with this stone there may be issues of listing or buying them. So be prepared to update your addons as quick as possible or even look to buy and sell these and other items sans addons.

This will be a good opportunity to get a piece of the pet battle pie. Upgrading gear has always been a part of Warcraft, and upgrading your sales will put more gold in your goblin pocket.

Pilgrim's Bounty, For The Educated

It is that time of the year that we should start being thankful. Thankful that we have a game we can play, and that there is gold to be made.

Well, not quite exactly when it comes to the Pilgrim's Bounty holiday. Blizzard has made this holiday very achievement heavy for players with very few physical rewards. Players can get a new Holiday themed suit, and a new turkey pet (sorry gang it's BOP so no selling it seems). There are a few chances to be able to make some quick gold if you catch people at the right time.

One of the achievements is called The Turkinator. This is one of those achievements that will come easy for some classes, and other classes it will drive them batty. The basic idea is to go to Elwynn Forest or Tirisfal Glades to kill turkeys all over the area. You have to kill 40 turkeys killing them one at a time to keep the buff you receive up and running til you hit 40 (it will drop off in 10 seconds if you don't kill another turkey).

Most players found that this can be annoying if you end up with a lot of players in the area. But one item the Tracker Snacks gave non hunters a huge advantage to finish this achievement. Now that many players have this achievement under wraps it isn't as large of a market as it had been previously. Still cooking and placing a few on the Auction House will net you some gold. Especially for players who are just getting used to the market it is a good test without a large amount of investment.

For those that enjoy the pain of non food enhanced turkey combat. There is a macro that the genius group on the boards came up with that will help with killing turkeys in no time.

If you have a busy server I usually suggest killing them either early in the morning or later in the evening. The turkeys become easier to find and less farmed for holiday themed cooking items as the event continues.

Now for the juicy part (hee hee) of the event. This is going to be a perfect time to take one of those alts that you have ignored their cooking and get it up to almost 400 cooking on the cheap.

Here is how you perform this cooking miracle

Learn Cooking + spiced Bread (1s 10c)

Learn Cooking + Spiced Bread (1s 10c)

Make 100 Spiced Bread (overkill, but easy to calculate with) (7s)
Buy the Bountyful Cookbook (1s)
Make 100 Spiced Bread Stuffing (Remember to learn Journeyman cooking between 50 and 75) (2s + 5s)
Make 100 pumpkin Pies (Remember to learn Expert Cooking between 125 and 150) (10s + 1g)
Make 100 Cranberry Chutney (Remember to learn Artisan Cooking between 200 and 225) (10s + 2g 50s)
Make 100 Candied Sweet Potatoes (Remember to learn Master Cooking between 275 and 300) (12s + 10g)
Make as many Slow Roasted Turkeys as you need to get to 350 Cooking, and then learn Grand Master cooking (35g)

Grand Total cost of getting to 350 cooking**: 47g 98s 10c*

If you want to go higher, you can start to kill turkeys in the above mentioned areas to craft Slow Roasted Turkey up to the 400+ mark. Most of your investment in this is time and energy. But the buffs from the turkey are very nice for long term usage.

Icy-Veins have a walk-through for all of the achievements for Pilgrim's Bounty so if your a little behind on your achievement hunting they are the guide to hit to get things done quickly.

Don't let the holidays distract you from your normal gold making procedures. You never know what opportunities might appear if you keep your ears open. From soloing Sekketh Halls for the Terrokar Turkey Time achievement to get lower players a chance at the achievement. To players dancing on mailboxes for gold tips. Thinking outside the turkey box might net you a few extra gold this week.

Someone tell Blizzard central it's time for a turkey centric boss. I would go for that for next year.

I am very partial to the beauty and mythos of any expansion pack. Whenever I level my main through an expansion I tend to actually read all of the quest text. I will take time to watch all of the NPC speeches and cut scenes. It makes me level a little bit slower but I get the full enjoyment of the expansion.

With Mists of Pandaria the Lorewalkers faction was introduced. If you take a quick look at their quartermaster as many tend to do to see what loot they can acquire, they really do not seem to have much. A couple of useful trinkets for that bane of all existence Archaeology, and a nice shiny mount called the Disc of the Flying Red Cloud.

Nothing to get all that excited about unless you like interesting lore, and shiny new mounts. There are multiple easy ways to obtain exalted with the Lorewalkers. Multiple add-ons and guides on how to make it very quick and painless (between one and two hours depending on your travel speed and accuracy). The main point is to complete stories from different parts of the main areas on Pandaria. Some of the items are only found in the level 90 Valley of the Eternal Blossoms. The Vale can be opened at level 87 but will not have any active quests until Level 90. Some players reported being able to enter this area earlier via bouncing around the mountains as well.

After you get all of the items (many of them are around packs of mobs so you will have to run in and then run out quickly with your tail tucked between your legs), you end up with items in your mail to turn into Loremaster quest giver . Each turn adds a ton of reputation to your Loremaster credits and after turning all of them in, you have Exalted and access to the Flying Disc.

As I was leveling my first toon I started picking up some of the different lore items as I was in areas. If I saw one I would pick it up and read it and then move on. You can always wait til level 90 with flying to make things much easier on yourself.

After reaching level 90 I added an add-on to my pack called Handynotes. Along with handynotes is a companion add-on called Handynotes Lorewalkers which added site markers to where all of the items are found on the mini-map. You can always use one of the multiple maps that are online to find the points manually (the gang at Wowinsider have an excellent guide). I also used this questline to finish up my Pandarian Explorer achievement.

Either way not every quest is about loot or gold. Sometimes it's just fun to run around and sniff the roses, pet the trees and look under rocks and see what stories are there. There is always room for making gold tomorrow.
