The Gauntlet Thrown Down

So a friend of the journal threw a challenge my direction that got my egg-nog addled brain thinking.

Their basic statement was how to make gold.   This would seem like an easy question since it's the entire basis of this blog.   But a few caveats were thrown into the soup for spice.

-  No farming
-  Limited Auction House Work (i.e.  none)
-  No Crafting

Okay,  so this wasn't as easy as I had hoped.   But once the Gold Goblin brains at JMTC started rolling a couple of out of the box thoughts came to mind.

1.   PVP = Honor points to Justice Points

Yes,   there is still PVP though on many servers it seems to have lost some of it's luster.   Running PVP maps for Honor Points, then converting them to Justice points at your home city vendors is still available. In that same area are Cataclysm materials that can be purchased from vendors.   Not a ton of gold,  but it follows the pattern and the rules set down to make gold.

2..  Escort Service

Okay,   Now that I have your attention.   This escort service isn't about scantily clad men and women.  It is built around getting players to where they want to go.   Mages have a distinct advantage in this realm with their built in portal techniques.   During holidays many players still don't have flying mounts and want to be taken to different sections to obtain items (Think Hallow's Even event).   Nothing wrong with charging a few gold for your time and effort

3.  Contests and trivia games

On many servers there are still games of chance and games of trivia that people will play in trade chat.   It is a little more chancy since Blizzard has cracked down on just what game can be played.  And the first time that something goes wrong your reputation will be gone for a few extra gold.

4.  Dancing on the Mailbox

Yes Virginia,  there is still dancing in Orgrimmar.   Next time you see someone shaking what the Blizzard programmers gave them,  throw a few copper their direction.   It might just be an enterprising Gold Goblin looking for a good time.  (wow,  this is just getting dirtier and dirtier as we go).

5.   Begging

This once speaks for itself.   Not the most popular of professions.  But there is almost always one or two people on the server that will beg for gold in the main cities.   A sign saying 'will raid for food' always brings in the gold.

Some of these were tongue in cheek,  others were an attempt to get you to think outside the box.   The key is that there are many ways to obtain gold in Warcraft.  Some are more successful than others.   Keeping your mind fresh and looking at new ways might bring a little laugh,  and some extra coin into your pocket.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Prioritizing Your Daily Quests

Mommar Here

Darkmoon Faire has arrived again.   The dailies that last for the next week added onto the other dailies available seem insurmountable.   Even doing your quickest route finishing two or three sets of dailies can tack on two or three hours of gameplay running around repeating the same kills.

If your like me you don't have the entire night to play wow every night.  Between work and  enjoying actual human companionship it just isn't high on my complete list to spend the next 5 hours every night finishing every day quest,  and raid,  and level another toon etc.

So this is where your planning and strategy becomes important for your long term goals.  Figuring out which of the dailies you need to obtain the recipes or trinkets you really want.   After arriving at those points then stopping and moving onto a new set.

I am a completist by nature,  so my main toon ends up being the one picking up the reputation from all of the different factions during expansions.  My other toons are mix and match depending on their professions and their needs.   Taking a few moments and looking at rewards will grant you that extra time you will need to be able to finish your other Warcraft related goals.

Your time is just as important as any gold making venture.  Keeping this in mind will maximize your profits and also your ability to enjoy World of Warcraft for the long term during this expansion.

The writers at http://www.orcisharmyknife.com/ have made a list of tips on how to make your dailies easier to finished.   Go over and take a look and give them some link love.

Flipping Out To Survive

Mommar Here.

The World of Warcraft auction house is a vibrant moving entity of its own.   Players have become attached to the idea of needing specific items for their collection.  Whether it's the best raiding gear
or knick knacks for personal vanity.

The buying and selling of these items or 'Flipping' have become a very necessary plank for gold goblin riches.   Looking for values and deals that can be bought and resold for large profits has become an unofficial profession of it's own.  It has become even more important in the lean times that have covered over the Mists of Pandaria expansion.

A large part in Flipping is based on need.   Determining what your server is wanting and desiring becomes your key to being successful at flipping items.   Is your server a strong raiding server?  Then epic gems and patterns would be a key item to look to obtain gold from.   Does your server Role play often?   Then Transmog gear becomes the selling point to your riches.   Do you have a large amount of collectors that hover over the auction house looking for rare pets and mounts?

We've preached here at JMTC central that the key to success if knowledge.  If you do not know your target audience then you will end up stumbling in the hopes of finding the random dollar.   Knowledge allows you to print your own money.

Taking advantage of your time and your knowledge will reveal what should be flipped for a profit.  Whether it's that batch of 10 Primal Diamonds that someone posted up.  Or that piece of 90 raid gear someone posted up for sale at too low of a price.

Flipping isn't just about big ticket items either.   Small profits add up to big profits.   Raw food materials will become more and more important as raiding begins.   Players will be looking to buy stocks of fish and meat to craft their specific needs.   Anything in demand can be flipped for profits.
It is finding that pressure point of players needs that puts you ahead of the gold goblin game.

So look at the needs of your server,  and then plan ahead on what your next flip item might be.   Then you will find that printing press of auction house success and print your own gold.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Resetting The Plan

Mo-Man here.

There are times that I wonder if the readers of these entries truly believe that these are the same techniques that I use to obtain my gold.   Similar to the infomercials that play on late night tv for the chop-o-fix-o-matic that guarantees that it will cut and slice through anything.  The same people that you will swear probably have a personal chef and hasn't hit that supposedly useful treadmill in 10 years.

Well,  to set things straight these are the same techniques that I use.  And generally I will tell you the truth whether they are successful or not.   In the past week I haven't been able to put all of my techniques in place due to limited game play.

Where I did find the leveling of professions on some very easy (alchemy is just completely insane on how fast it can level) to the known limitations that Blacksmithing and Leatherworking have (minimum level 87 to maximize the profession).  The money options have been less than successful when it comes to recouping my investment.

There are definitely certain items that shouldn't surprise me are still successful in selling.  Where all of the major epic weapons/armor sales have fallen by the wayside.   My engineer is still racking up the occasional sale from Flintlocke's Woodchucker.   Selling those have balanced out the lack of sales in the Jewelcrafting department.

So I find myself into a quandry with the idea of resetting some of my ideas and taking a loss.   Wrath gems for now are relatively dead.   Where the blank gems can be converted something saleable, some of them have become vendor bait.

Other long term investments such as pets and vanity items are taking a back seat to character leveling
and profession leveling.   Players do not have as much free capitol to be able to purchase vanity items
or throw away items.   But then Mists of Pandaria expansion  is here for at least a year and a half
if not longer.

So has the panic bus pulled up to JMTC central?   Not yet,   I'm still in the plus column for MOP overall.
And I have yet to cut into any of the reserves I set aside for my rainy day fund.   Each profession had a
certain amount set to invest towards leveling.  And two out of the 5 are on the plus side currently.  But
the changes in the professions have definitely taken its toll on expected sales.

So what's the lesson to be learned here?   That sometimes you can reset where you are at and figure
bottom level of success.    We are here for a marathon of sales,  and this was one small race in a much
longer series of races.   So look at where you are at now,   reset your thought processes if need be
and measure your success.

Mike Tyson was quoted as saying  "everyone has a plan til someone gets punched in the face".   So
if you were surprised by your lack of money making in the first week of Mists of Pandaria.  Consider
it your punch in the face and you have 11 more rounds to go.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

The First 48....

Mommar here.

It has finally arrived.  All the glitz and glamour and fur of Mists of Pandaria has arrived.   There is always a buzz in the air with a new expansion opening its doors.

I decided this time around to not be so worried about being first in line.   Mostly because as I get older I like my sleep a lot more.   With the knowledge base expanding from online journals and information sources,  these events tend to be more popular with gold making gurus.

Taking all of the tools that you've learned from your reading adventures here,  as well as other places will serve you well.  Feeding materials into your professions to process for leveling,  as well as giving you other items that can be resold for profit.

Keeping track of both your short term and long term investments will be very important in the coming days as well as following trends.   If you haven't looked at Wowuction.com this will be an excellent time to become familiar with the website.

Don't be concerned so much with making major amounts of gold right now.  The first wave is always smaller than the bigger wave on the weekend.   Being patient and not losing your head is just as important as buying every single plant available on the Auction House.  Being a gold goblin is not a sprint,  it is a marathon.

Strategies will get you through all of the upcoming bends and turns in the road of gold making.  Just keep going forward,  accept losses when they happen and revel in the windfalls as they occur.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

The Gospel of Goblin: MOP Edition

Soft Panda Warm Panda
Big Ole Ball of Fur
Happy Kitty,  Grumpy Kitty
Grrr Grrr Grrr

The patch day is among us.  Only hours til the doors open (on US servers).    European servers are enjoying the joys of waiting for the world servers come back on.

The rush to be the first for all the professions on the US server is going to create unparallelled competition and bidding for Mists of Pandaria materials.   Everything in the auction house will go for seemingly outrageous prices in the first two weeks if not longer.

If you have been reading the gospel of goblin according to JMTC you know that chapter 1 verse 1 is
very simple.

Timing, Timing and Timing.

There will be a rush to place items on the auction house to ride the wave of sales that always occur with a new expansion.   The first minerals going for hundreds of gold a stack.   Much of this occurs because there are more gold making experienced players than ever before.  With much more money to
spend than in previous expansions.

The 2nd verse of the gospel of goblin goes:

The first auction shall be the last auction

Most of the items that are listed in the first hours of the expansion on the auction house will be undercut just as quickly.   Active items such as cloth and ore will continually be listed lower and lower
with each passing minute.   The majority of players won't be logging onto their new expansions til later in the day (that sleep they seem to crave).   Gathering Mists of Pandaria items now and waiting til the majority of buyers are on the server can net less returns to your email and more gold into your pocket.

The 3rd verse in the Gospel of Goblin:

Communicate,  Communicate and Communicate.

Many of the gold goblin writers have twitter and Facebook accounts.   Adding them to your twitter list can get you on the mark from the start to new changes.   Reading your server trade chat,  your guild chat and even your cartel can let you jump on deals before they are snatched away.  My Twitter account is @JMTCMommar,

The 4th verse in the Gospel of Goblin

Goblins wept (because they didn't update their add-ons).

The biggest mistake players do is not updating their add-ons.   Especially their crafting and searching add-ons.   Many add-ons have been in beta and kept updating through the beta for MOP.   Trade Skill Master,  Skillet and other crafting add-ons have been updated and tested for Mists of Pandaria.   Having a server client such as from Curse.com can have you updated in no time.

The 5th verse in the Gospel of Goblin

Have Fun.. Be Patient.  Gold Will Be There.

The next few hours are the jump start to an expansion that is going to last us a minimum of a year and a half.   That is a lot of time to make gold.  This gold boon is a bump in a long road of gold making opportunities.   So if you don't hit the million gold mark the first day,  there is always tomorrow.  Each gold goblin millionaire started off the same as everyone else.

So it's time to take the message of the Gospel of Goblin to the heathen pandas.   Let's go and convert the poor into the rich.   The weak into the mighty,  and the bored into the entertained.   Its panda time

The End of Warcraft? Whats Next?

We are on the brink of something new and exciting.   Less than 48 hours from now players will be jumping into new computerized habitats.   Taking on new challenges and new frontiers.   Mists of Pandaria will be open wide to show the best that the designers,  graphic artists,  quest developers and minds at Blizzard have to offer.

Along for the ride will also be the detractors from Blizzard.   With the simplification of the game to many long time players,  Blizzard is taking a chance with Mists of Pandaria in its simplification of a long standing titan of a game.   It wants to remain the granddaddy of the MMORPG games and beat down the competitors that are nipping at it's heels.

For Warcraft to survive it will have to again be the innovator of the gaming world that it has been for years.   Games such as Rifts and it's event system,  Cities of Heroes with it's complex character creation system have opened up the eyes of gamers to what a massively multiplayer game could be.  Games that present a Free to Play system have challenged the old ideas of a subscription based
system.

The naysayers have unofficially announced that Mists of Pandaria will be the end of World of Warcraft.
Blizzard at times have shown a reluctance to make changes from time to time with the basic structure
of the game itself.  With players clamoring for faster updates,  more content and better challenges
they will continually go to where their hunger is satisfied.  Whether that is continuing with World of
Warcraft or searching for other games to feed on.

Here at JMTC central I don't believe it is all that dire of an outlook.   We are less than
48 hours from that experience that ever player receives with each expansion.
The Oooo and Ahhh of new lands.  Of the joys and Frustrations of new monsters and new quests.
The new lore that always interests me when I read it for the first time.  That genuine excitement that
I get when I open up my first Christmas gift of the year for myself.

There will always be critics to anything creative.   Sometimes they are right,  sometimes they are wrong.
But they will always exist no matter how something is presented.   The proof will be the players that
stay with the long running champ.   That fill up the boards with how awesome a game can still be no
matter how old it is.

This doesn't mean I don't believe that Blizzard needs to keep changing.   They cannot remain in stagnant
thought that some games fall into.   Creative boss mechanics and quests along with tapping into other
sucessful parts of other games can bring the necessary boost into the product.   New graphics
technologies will bring a new sensation to players views of the World of Warcraft.

But if Blizzard chooses to live on its laurels and not continue to lead in MMORPG innovation,  it will
fall by the wayside and become it's own WOW killer.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

10 days til MOP

Mommar Here.

It's a brisk Saturday morning at club JMTC.  And if you listen closely you can hear the buzz in the air. Only 10 days left til the opening of the gates of Pandaria.

The tools and the choices are there.   Whether you're excited about the new continent,  pet battles,  skill sets,  dungeons,  raids or just to talk to your friends again.   MOP has that fresh feeling you get when you get a package of clothes you ordered on the internet.

For the next 10 days your mission,  if you choose to accept it, is to focus on what tasks you want to get done first.   Which character you want to level.  Which Profession is the one you want to level first.

Don't forget as well to keep an eye on quick profit opportunities as players shore up their storage for the next expansion.   If you see a good opportunity to buy out a much in need item and gain a profit,  go for it.   Players are storing up on Plants and raw materials to resell.   Using the idea of Zero Balance Investment you can both be making a small profit,  and pay for your own storage items.

Also don't forget to point your friends and guild members to your favorite journals about gold making (it's this one right?).   Your gold making success isn't just wrapped around your own personal fortune. The more gold that your guild members make,  the more flexibility as a raid you have as well.   And who doesn't want to be the hero of an auction house raid.

Good Luck and Good Hunting
