One of the keys to success (wow, imagine that, it is what I titled this entry) is the idea of self motivation.
Everyone has a different reason why they make gold. Survival, to pay for their own items, working for the guild, challenging to be the best. All of these are viable options as well as a few I am sure you can come up with.
Whichever you choose to motivate you, sometimes you have to shake up that motivation once you have reached your goal. I reached a plateau of sorts many months ago in the idea that I could cruise on just the gold I have in the bank and never have to sell an item again. Most of the items on the RMAH are easily within my reach without sending shock waves through my bank account. So my motivation to be able to buy items was removed with this revelation.
So it was needed to change my motivation to something different. Yes I could have easily just gave my gold away and started over. I even did this by starting on another server to play with a completely new set of rules. Where I have high regards for people who can give all of their gold away to random players and start all over I have never been able to pull the trigger on that option. I enjoy too much of diving and swimming in the piles of gold ala Scrooge McDuck.
What I did end up doing is to challenge myself to help others be able make gold. Not just through this journal but also through loaning of gold to players. I did say loan and not give away. My personal opinion is that giving gold is a hand out and loaning gold is a hand up. It is the same principles I place on my daily life as well. Do I expect to always get paid back? No, but it is expected that if they are successful they have the option of either paying me back or to help someone else.
Self Motivation is very important in whatever you choose to do. Very rarely will you have someone standing behind you pushing you all the way to your goals. You are the only one that can push you into being successful. The same as you are the only one to be there when it all falls apart.
Either way success is entirely up to you. That is the biggest key to success.

If you have been paying attention to your profit margins for the past couple of months, they have been slowing being cut due to lack of demand. PVP items, armor patches, epic weapons have been slowly drifting into unprofitable ranges.
Basic economics (not to be confused with Warcraft economics) give the idea that once something stops being profitable, then stop selling it. This simple philosophy works the same on your warcraft economic services. Most items will ultimately sell on the AH, but there comes a time that relisting them continually eats up your time that you could be doing other warcraft errands (farming, looking for deals to resell at the beginning of Mists of Pandaria, talk to your friends outside your apartment).
I already decided to close two of my sources of income til Mists of Pandaria, keeping them restocked with selling items while profits continued to dwindle. Consolidating my time and efforts into both collections of items for Mists of Pandaria, and also continuing to list items that are still selling at a healthy profit (using my Zero Balance Investment Strategy).
Consolidation of your services now will allow you to hone your skills to razor sharpness. Giving you a good base to rebuild your other professions. Whether your base of operations will be enchanting, or Jewelcrafting or even Engineering, the money you make from your 'best' operation will allow you to expand the rest of your gold making ventures. With all the information that is available on the future of professions during the MOP expansion, taking an hour to study and prepare your strategy now will reap benefits once the panda invasion arrives.
Now don't get me wrong with the idea of closing everything and starting to suck your thumb. I like the idea of income continuing to arrive in the mail as your prepping for MOP. But cutting down the time spent on less profitable ventures gives you that necessary planning time to prepare for the burst economy that always occurs during the opening of an expansion.
Prepping for Mists of Pandaria can be just as exciting as the opening of the expansion itself. Knowing you are ahead of the other 99% with your planning, and your execution is just as exciting and taking out your first boss in an instance (okay, maybe not quite as exciting but you get better loot from the AH).
Get ready for the next two weeks, saddle up your pack horses and know where you're going to be at when the gates open. Prepare to ride the wave of players wanting your items, and waiting to give you their gold.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

Mommar here.
It's just a little bit over three weeks before the panda infestation begins. With this expansion pack there seems to be less of a feel of excitement than any of the previous ones. It could be the overhaul of the talent tree. Or the pet battles in the future. Or one of several parts of Mists Of Pandaria that are feeling a little lackluster to many.
For me and the house of JMTC, we are excited with the new expansion. I"m looking forward to new places to view. New lore to read and to enjoy and new character classes. But the one thing that does creep into view is motivation to make gold.
I'll be honest with you faithful readers. I could stop making gold and buy just about anything I want on the open market. I have done the route of giving gold to players, and buying items for everyone so they could enjoy. There is a mountain of materials in guild banks with my toons name on them ready to buy and sell at a moments notice. So making more gold is not a motivation buy itself.
What does motivate me is the thrill of the hunt. I enjoy finding deals and sharing it with other players (yes my gang of goblins that includes you). From the smallest deal to the deals that can rake in a large amount of gold for your coffers. It's what motivates me to continue and make gold (and give it away from time to time).
One of the big things that motivates me will be the Black Market Auction House. I was sorely disappointed when the Olympics in China gave the Spirit of Competition pet. For some strange reason I only got this pet on my hunter toon and not my main raiding toon. It was one of the few pets that I didn't have on my main, and I always was saddened that he didn't have it. The combination of all the pets was nice to see, but I've had many ask where I got the pet and if they could get it.
In theory the Black Market Auction House is supposed to make extremely rare items available. It's a very controversial subject because players who had earned these items the 'right way' will see them on others that just paid gold for them. Others welcome another chance to purchase mounts and pets that otherwise they would never be able to have for their collection.
This motivates me as it should you to make gold now. Having a goal of one or two items that are on your must have list will keep the gold making blood flowing. As your dragging through this months Darkmoon Faire dailies, and even through making gold through your professions. Keeping your goal in mind will get you through the grind.
