Occasionally a letter gets sent to the office of JMTC making accusations that we are affecting the markets with our discussions. In some people's eyes we have become some minor Machiavellian
manipulators of the wow market. Sister sites have been accused many times of trying to create demand for items just by the words we share.
The truth is that journals such as here, or our sister site at Diablo3goldguide.com reveal what goes on behind the scenes in gaming markets. Writers do the research and the general information that is there for players to work for themselves. The only real effect we can have on a market is to bring other players to the table for them to dine.
I'm sure that some will always believe that blog writers have nefarious methods of controlling a market. That somehow we have sucked that market dry that we are presenting as an opportunity. In their minds we have somehow gotten the better of the small pie and now give the crumbs to our readers.
That would be viable to a closed money system. But Warcraft has no limited amount of currency or materials. You cannot go outside your house and run in circles and pick items to sell from your front yard continually. At some point the coins and junk will run out. In Warcraft there is a continual replenishment of ore and skins and raw material. You can run the same path in Silithus and produce raw materials for sale.
The only control a writer has is the information that is presented and in what format. We can make it as complicated in its terminology and theories. Or down to the basic idea of "Go here, farm this, sell this". Either way it is up to the choices of the writer, and the demands of the readers.
A normal player has more effect on the market that a writer. Given an opportunity to put a theory into place in your own gaming life. If that theory is successful then you have affected the market by a little, or a lot. Writers can point the direction to go, it's your ability to take the first steps that will add to the economy. Or allow the Warcraft economy to stay the same.
Writers do not change the market directly. We change the markets only if you agree with our views, and succeed in your activities. Otherwise it's just mythical words on an imaginary page.
