Advertise in trade chat to buy goods for 20% less than they are worth on the ah. Post after buying, though not right away to avoid suspicion. Always look for people selling huge amounts of an item in trade to empty their bags or buy their flying mount.
Basically, do not ignore trade chat, even if idiots are spamming about somebody's mom or advertising the newest and greatest guild.
Ask another auctioneer what they sell to make gold. Be sure to share your own tip as well, so as to make it a profitable discussion for both.
This tip sounds stupid at first, but it's surprising the kind of useful information you can get from someone else that you'll never think of on your own. Be kind and share something back.
The forums are a great place to do this anonymously.
Discover the limit to your market. To find this first you have to break that limit. Post a stack today, two tomorrow, three the next and keep posting until your items do not get purchased in full. Then scale back and you have your limit. If your goods sell prematurely then by all means post a little bit more after that. The goal of this exercise is to see how many items you can sell in one posting so go nuts :)
Once you find the limit (the point at which not all your goods sell), start scaling back until you find out just how much of your item your server is willing to buy on a given day.
For me, pygmy oil sells about 8-15 stacks of 20 per 24 hour period, so I rarely post more than that.
Learn about a profession you’ve never owned. See if it interacts with any of your current professions and start making gold modifying goods. Every profession except fishing, first aid, and cooking interacts with every other profession in some minor way at the very least. Whether it's materials for crafting a weapon or requirements for a trinket, they are all connected in some way. Learn these connections and see if there is gold to be made.
Flood your market today. Post everything you have and watch people dump their items back at you. When they get to be pretty cheap buy them out. Repost in a few days when the dust settles. When I say 'flood your market' I do not mean undercut yourself to death. Instead, place double or more than the normal amount of items you would likely post at around 120-140% price. Supply and Demand is a mysterious but often predictive mechanism of free markets: Post double your normal amount, watch your prices get cut in half.
When the dust settles start buying up the competition. Remember that all those items you posted are not likely to sell so be ready to accept that deposit cost (if any).
Undercut someone by 1 gold, 15 silver, and 39 copper with one item. When the item is purchased repost two at the same price. Keep doing this until you get undercut.
Do you have to use 1 gold, 15 silver, 39 copper? No, but the purpose of this experiment is to show you that a random undercut (by random I mean it looks like a robot decided the number), does not come across as an aggressive takeover or undercutting war. The seller above you will either buy you out or just wait until your item has been sold. I'd say undercut by 5% with some random silver and copper ammounts mixed in.
Try to do this at a time when you can check the auction house about every hour for about three hours. Each time you check simply increase the number of reposts by one if any of your items have sold.
Ever play poker? Well then, it’s time to start reading auctioneers.
Ask yourself, why is this person posting these items, what benefit is there to this crazy undercut? Does this person just want fast gold and therefore I can flip the item? Is this person emptying their guild bank?
Why, what, when, where, etc. Don't just bid/buy/post blindly before you understand why your opponenets are doing what they're doing. Get into their heads and you'll be surprised at the kind of mind games you can play with people.
For the comments, does anyone have an example of when they 'played' a fellow auctioneer?
Between posting your auctions and picking up successful sales, try running someone through an instance and have them loot then mail you all the items they find. See how much money you make from disenchanting/looting everything.
My favorites are:
ZF (mainly for the cloth), Scarlet Monastery Cathedral, and RFC.
Disenchant everything and be sure to sell the loads of cloth you get on the auction house. A single run through RFC can net you fifty strange dust which can sell on my server for 25-30 gold. The linen isn't particularly valuable but you can craft it and disenchant to get even more strange dust. The greater magic essences are nothing to sneeze at either.
Having a Tundra Mammoth to get rid of items (or an engineer's mail box) is a huge bonus in ZF.
Bid on items Tuesday morning before a hard reset (don’t do this on a 15 minute server restart). The reason for doing this is that auctions continue to 'roll' regardless of server inactivity. So if you have an auction with 4 hours left at the time that servers go into an 8 hour restart then your auction will have expired by the time the servers come back up.

Purchase an item as a stack of 20 and resell one at a time for 150-300% profit.
Now, remember that this works both ways, particularly for elemental items. Look for goods that have completely different PCT's (that's percentage of market value which the addon auctioneer shows you) and compare 1 item vs 20 items or a comparable stack.
Saronite bars are the best example of this practice, but all this speculation about titanium ore has also produced an oppurtunity for crafty auctioneers. Myself, I purchased 40 titanium ore for 130 gold and then turned them into bars, selling the bars for 10 gold each. I made 70 gold from this the same day I purchased the ore.
Offer services today, whatever your profession is and instead of asking for a tip, charge a steady amount. For instance: WTS Spellpower to weapon, your mats + 10 gold. If someone wants this enchant they’ll pay the 10 gold to save time.
Pick locks, cut gems, etc all for a set price... don't rely on random tips for your hard earned profession skills!
Find a Mining, Herbing, or Skinning farmer, even advertise in trade; looking for someone who has tons of your favorite mat and can COD them to you at any time.
Many players don't want to deal with the auction house at all and you can make their lives so much easier by simply buying out their goods at a standard and reliable price. Many dislike the COD option so you will want to find a farmer that usually sells their goods in trade while you are also online.
I've seen several players already advertising in trade and looking to pay titanium ore farmers great money for their goods at fixed prices.
Be sure to be consistent with the price you are offering and try not to spam more than once per minute in trade chat.
Check a low level market today.
Look at your tradeskill and look for items that may be valuable to power levelers, low level characters, or even high level characters looking for thrills (i.e. deviate fish). Every profession creates items that can prove to be valuable to someone leveling the same profession or another one. If you are a disenchanter, look for items that can be crafted cheaply due to an influx of low level mats and in turn can be disenchanted into much more valuable materials. For example, Tailoring can make linen items that often disenchant into much more valuable strange dust.
Anyone care to share their own examples of 'low' level items that are actually quite valuable?
Organize your bank space. Move everything into order according to profession. Trust me, this is well worth the effort.
Buy bags that are made for your profession, allowing for larger stashes of items in your particular niche. Some professions, like mining, can be annoying in that not all the items produced or gathered can fit in the same bag (i.e. gems). Be careful and plan out the space you willl need as well as the number of normal, open bag slots you will require.
Be sure to maximize the open slots on your banking character(s) in such a way that you can take as few trips as possible to the auction house in order to sell all of your goods.

Try buying at a different time today.
If you never check the auction house in the morning, get up a little earlier and take a peak tomorrow.
Also, try to check more than once separated by at least 8 hours. You'd be shocked at the changes of prices that can occur in as little as 8 hours.
If you are in the habit of checking once per day then you could be missing out on some great deals!
Also, if you are into the enchanting business you can easily cancel your auctions and relist in order to react to market changes during the same day that you originally posted them.
Expand your bank space. Create a banking alt if you don’t have one. You have several options for upgrading your bank, and I'd like to link to this post to help you out.
Remember that you can level a dk and have him within a major city in as little as 1-2 hours. He or she will have some lovely big bags already on the character, as well as 15% movement speed while mounted.
When purchasing your bank bags, keep in mind what professions you have and what your toon will be storing. If you're going to make a glyph hoarder then you will want to purchase a few inscription specific bags in order to save space for other items in the bank.
Keep your bank organized and clean, it really helps in the long run to speed things up.
Post at 1-2 gold above the lowest undercutter on your market for a 24 hour period. See if/when your item sells.
Not all items are going to sell at a 1-2 gold marketup so look to increase by 3-5%instead. You'll be shocked to see that eventually your items can sell for more than the lowest current price, just don't flood when posting or else you'll encourage more undercutting.
Example: For abyss crystals (currently at an all time low of 65-80 gold each) I post stacks of four at 75 gold each eventhough the market is undercut down to 65. Within 36 hours all three of my stacks of four sold.
I highly encourage that you attempt to do this with enchanting mats so that you won't lose money from the auction deposit fee should your items not sell.

Try a consumable market today. Flasks, potions, and/or various foods that provide buffs. Buy a few cheap and repost. Raiders are your primary buyers for these items, so hold off on selling them until just before raid times. On my server most players raid at 7:00pm server and on, so I usually post my flasks at around 6:45. Since the people buying your goods will be purchasing within a 15-30 minute window before raids start you will want to be the best priced option at that moment.
Since flasks last for one hour most raiders are going to buy 2-4 at a time so post in stacks of 1, 2 or 4.
For foods and potions, attempt to buy these on the weekend when farmers are posting meats and mats at their cheapest and then resell during weeknights. Foods that are already encompassed in a raid wide feast are not valuable. Instead, focus on other stats like hit, strength, and spell penetration.

Change your stack sizes. Experiment with selling individual items as well as max stacks. Some items are used 1,2, 4, 5, 6, 8,10 at a time so be sure to check these amounts as well.
Be sure to investigate what the item is used for by either searching on wowhead under the "Reagent For" section or by asking someone you know that uses the item. As an example I selected infinite dust. 1, 4, 5, and 8 seem to be the best stack sizes for infinite dust based on what is required for the various recipes/enchants.
