News flash. Every server is different. It has a different flavor, a different style and amazingly different people.
Whenever people give tips and tricks on how to make gold there is always the fallout voice that says 'It doesn't work on my server'. Transmog sales on one server might not happen on another. High level raid gear and PVP sales might work on one server while on the other server, it becomes a barren wasteland of relistings for sales.
This is where you need to look at your sales and crafting practices and not always follow the same path. Over the months just on JMTC we have offered hundreds of tips. If you add all the other good warcraft podcasts, journals, email listings, then there are 1000's of tips floating out there on how to make gold in World of Warcraft.
The beauty of being a gold goblin is the ability to decide which ones worked at the time and place that you play on. Finding the lay of the land on your server becomes key to your success. Where I would love to say that I have my finger on the pulse of every server out there, it is impossible for one person let along one journal to know everything.
But what is out there is the tools for you to learn how to interpret each tip and whether it will work in regards to your profit plan. The plan you have developed over the months with your toon army to be able to create a profit flow that continually fills your needs and desires within the World of Warcraft.
So the next tip you see whether it is here (of course it is always here first, right?) or other places, decide for yourself whether it will work on your server. If you're not sure, throw a few gold and see just what sticks to the wall and what ends up not putting gold into your pocket.

If there is one thing I have said time and time again, Time is money. Granted, it isn't the most original of concepts (long before the Goblins adopted this idea).
In World of Warcraft this is translated to how much time does it take to make your gold. Anyone can make gold if they try. The determination is whether it is the simplest of ways (working on quests, selling raw materials) or much more complex methods (Incarnations of the Saronite shuffle, flipping items etc.). Each of ways can make gold, it mostly depends on how much time you have and just where you place your resources.
This is going to become even more important when the Warlords of Draenor open up its portals for business. Many people will be running around the new version of Draenor when the expansion hits the shelves. New items and new materials to craft and sell. But one of the biggest changes with the garrisons and how they affect the market.
Remember that everyone will be able to create Garrisons. It appears that they will be able to start creating them early in the expansion. Halfhill had a limitation, you were required to complete and ultimately had to hit level 90 before the farm could be put into full motion. Garrisons won't have this limitation it appears. We already know that Garrisons will have all of the major and minor professions, if not in a limited capacity. This will probably mean that a regular miner who can get x amount of ore per node attached will be competing with a non miner who can get their own ore if they are patient. The same thing applies to all of the other professions.
The other thing to keep in mind is that through the different notes and Alpha testing there is already been reported to have garrison only recipes. The specifics are still wondering before a wall of silence from the testers. Supposition basically says to the casual player they will not be needing as much raw material as has been sold in the past from the Auction House.
But don't panic just yet and start creating an army of scribes. There will still be a high demand for all of the professions. Many players are impatient and let their gold they have accumulated overpower the time to create the materials and items on their own. It just means that as a gold goblin you will have to be more shrewd with your time management.
So as we start to count down to the beta release and full release of Warlords of Draenor, keep your time management in mind. How much time are you spending to obtain your raid necessities? How much time are you spending to obtain that uber mount you want. And how much time are you spending running around the dollars trying to find another dime.
Time is money. And I've got my money on my time.

There are two sides to every deal. The buyer and the seller. Seems simple enough, doesn't it? You have the buyer who wants to obtain something for the least amount of resources (gold, time, effort). You have the seller that wants to get the most resources for the item/time they are offering.
I added gold, time and effort into the equation because in the negotiations of World of Warcraft all three become commodities. Your time and effort can easily replace gold simply from questing or running raids/instances. Effort is just how much you will go somewhere to obtain what you want from the other person.
I ran into this yesterday as I was in negotiations to purchase another guild. I needed one as a hiding place for a couple of my up and coming toons. It was a 4 slot guild that had 'some items' still in the bank. Not going into specifics the seller offered in general chat the guild for x amount of gold.
There are certain questions I always ask when purchasing the guild.
1) What is the name of the guild (don't really like inappropriate names for guilds I own)
2) Does anyone else still belong? (This is important because there have been some guilds that were sold
Without other members knowing until they logged out the next day.)
3) What level guild is it? (The higher the level of the guild the more lucrative that the benefits can be)
4) What items still exist in the guild bank (if they are good items you can easily recoup your investment)
So I offered what I considered a fair price opening up the negotiations. Generally, I half the price that they offer unless it is an extremely good opening salvo. They counter offered and then I accepted at about 75% of the original price they wanted. Win/Win right?
So I logged over to my toon that would take over the guild I contacted the seller. After a delay they informed me that someone had offered full price. Disappointed that the seller didn't keep his word as far as the deal for a measly couple of gold I just thanked him and went my merry way.
But here is the thing to keep in mind. I have said it many times that your word is your bond. It may seem very fleeting when dealing with online gaming. Players do not have the direct attachment to their toons that they have to their real lives. If I make a deal with someone, then I expect them to keep up with them. That expectation goes both ways. I have sold items that others came along quickly and offered me twice as much gold. I had to tell them the item was sold simply because my word was more valuable to me than ethereal gold.
I'm also someone who believes in Karma. If you do good things then good things will happen to you. If you do things that are questionable, then the questionable things will occur. This may seem like an old concept, but it is one that has ruled both my gaming and my real world life for years.
So the moral of this little story? There really isn't any. Not everything needs a moral, unless you want to add one of your own.

The basic sales techniques to make gold in Warcraft is crafted through either Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Inscription or even the Tirion of professions, Engineering.
But many gold goblins forget that you can make a lot of gold, leveling and selling cooking supplies. Middle level buff food as well as max level raiding food was making gold by the bucketfuls for many players. It took time, supplies and some farming obtain enough points with all of the different Halfhill residents to get the best recipes.
We already have rumblings that there will be similar gold making strategies with cooking during the WOD expansion. There is already some ideas of just what raw ingredients will be needed and combined for in demand recipes.
So that's the good news. The bad news? Remember how you have never leveled fishing on any of your toons? From the alpha notes and others who have played the game, fishing is going to be heavily linked to your cooking. Again the same happened with the Mists of Pandaria expansion.. It was possible to level your cooking without needing a high level fisher, but it became that much more expensive.
The other not so fun news is that many of the already revealed recipes have components that are obtained via Herbalism. Most players who have inscription have an herbalist running around grasspicking, but the others gold goblins abandoned Herbalism to level a more profitable profession.
Warlords of Draenor are lining up to be a different headed beast when it comes to making gold. Less mass production and more selective production of items. If this trend continues, then a skilled gold goblin will need to learn how to mix and max professions in their toon army to keep profit margins high.
Still having 3 plus months of Pandaland exploration to go there is plenty of time to maximize your secondary professions on multiple toons. Fishing and cooking could easily become the hidden goldmine that gold goblins exploit to their advantage.
Good Luck and Good Profit Hunting.

10% added chance for crafting points. Many players are going to have this already for their crafting toons. Those players that are lacking this for their guild will be at a disadvantage. The 10% will effect the chance of a yellow or green level crafting item ticking off another point in profession advancement. Level 14 guilds tend to be active so if your guild has been raiding or has multiple questing members, the odds are your already at this level or very close.
5. Bring gold
There is no two ways around it. This is going to cost you gold to get to be a realm first in a crafting profession. It would be difficult if not near impossible to gather your own materials to craft up to the maximum of a profession. An option to gather your own would be if you can get your guild behind one person to obtain the realm first. Or of course if your guild is easily bribed (my guild isn't). Either way it's going to put a dent into your gold reserves.
6. Be ready to go when the doors to Pandaria open. This includes standing next what you need for your profession (blacksmithing next to an anvil/forge, leatherworkers next to their vendor). Your goal is to spend all your time crafting and none of your time running around looking for what you need.
7. Have the crafting dailies for fishing/jewelcrafting/inscriptionist daily done and ready to turn in.
This will gain 1 more point towards your profession. jewelcrafting dailies will give you two points.
So the day before the patch opens up, finish up your daily but do not turn it in. Just park your
toon in front of the turn in (for inscriptionist that will turn in the Forged Documents quest for their point).
8. Be prepared if the Darkmoon Faire is active
It's possible that the Darkmoon Faire will be active during the opening of Pandaria. The odds are slim it will, but be prepared if it is. Have your materials for your DM monthly profession quest ready to go and turn in. We will know more about this as the date for Mists of Pandaria comes closer.
Bonus Tips for Gathering Realm First
- Purchase a Gnomish Army Knife before MOP. These are going to give you a +10 to your gathering ability for herbalism, mining and skinning. This will not give you points towards your achievement. But it will prevent you from running into (skill not high enough) problems as you advance into different areas.
- Have enchanted gloves based on your professions.
- [Enchant Gloves -Advanced Mining], [Enchant Gloves - Advanced herbalism], [Enchant Gloves - Skinning]. This enchant/item combination with the Gnomish Army Knife adds a healthy +15 to your abilities. Leapfrogging you over many of the dead zone areas that happen when leveling a gathering profession.
- Fishing for a realm first achievement will want to have both one of the highest +point level rods in the game (Arcanite Fishing Rod or Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Rod). even if you only have a plus 5 Strong Fishing Pole you will have an easier time. Remember again the +bonuses do not count towards your points. The points just make it a higher possibility to catch in different areas.
If you missed our last episode: Five things you should be selling: Engineer Edition here is the setup for our plan to make gold.
First the rules of the road.
1. All recipes have to be obtained by either Training, purchasing from a vendor or via reputation.
2. No World drops or items that would require a larger than life grind to obtain (ala Fireland dailies)
3. Materials can be gathered or crafted, not requiring BOP dropped items or boss farmed items.
4. Each item should make a minimum of 30% profit over cost of crafting.
And now on with the show.
Cooking. From Spice bread (definitely sounded better than it probably tasted) all the way to Seafood Magnifique Feast, cooking is used for both enjoyable changes in how your toon looks. To powerful buffs for raiding and questing. For some it can be a huge money maker, if you know what recipes to grab and to sell.
1. [Small Feast]
Originally this was a mid range raid/instance food for parties to get that quick pick me up between pulls. Now it's been overshadowed by larger amounts of mana/health replenishment. But the most enjoyable part of this is that it makes your toon 30% smaller, and can stack with many of the different foods/potions/items that can change size and shape. Grab a [Noggenflogger elixir] from the tanaris questing and you can be the smallest pirate. Or the tiniest Ninja. Plus with the larger amounts of alts that will be created soon, this could be a nice money maker for just a few wrath cooking tokens and some basic materials (2x [Glacial Salmon], 2x [Nettlefish], 2x [Rhino Meat] and 1x [Northern Spices]
2. [Gigantic Feast]
The counterpart to the [Small Feast], Who doesn't want to look 30% larger. Does this feast make me look fat? 2x [Chunk o Mammoth]. 2x [Deep Sea Monsterbelly], 2x [Rockfin Grouper], 1x [Northern Spices] should sell well now and in the future for new alts created. Look for not just the feast itself, but many of the mats to be in demand as more players enter the warcraft realms with Mist's of Panderia release.
3. [Tracker Snacks]
This has sales that can be up and down depending on what it's used for. During the Pilgrims Bounty holiday it's in high demand for it's useful during the [The Turkinator] achievement. It's also valuable for non hunters who are grinding out materials or just farming for skins. 1x [Shoveltusk Flank] and 1 [Northern Spice] can bring in good gold.
4. [Chocolate Cookie]
These are continuous sellers Simply for the idea that it's used for the [[You'll Feel Right as Rain] achievement. Plus who doesn't want to bring cookies to a raid. Just do not forget the [Ice Cold Milk]. The [cocoa beans] can be purchased from the Token daily recipes in your faction major city. The [Fresh Water] and [Simple Flour] from the cooking suppliers in the same general area. Now someone make a warcraft oatmeal chew and I will be happy.
5. [Fortune Cookie]
What other food can you get both a very sizable buff (90 stamina + 90 in your core class stat) plus have a chance to win 5000g? With [Mysterious Fortune Card] on some servers going for 4-6g per, you cannot lose to buy and craft these. Costing only a couple of cooking tokens, if you have maxxed out your cooking profession these will continue to be sales all through the winding down of cataclysm and into the next expansion. Take 1 [Mysterious Fortune Card] + 1 [Simple Flour] and craft gold into your bag.
There are other food recipes that can sell well depending on the climate of your server. [Great Feast] is used for the achievement [Dinner Impossible], for your pvp achievement lovers. As well as many of the low level items that are used to keep leveling toons at their peak abilities.
What other recipes are selling on your server? Or does your cooking skills need more work?

There are lots of ways to improve your character's performance in dungeons, but one of the most common is eating food. For much of Cataclysm, casters have been using the Fortune Cookie to get their +90 Intellect food buff. But oddly, I've found there are lots of people who prefer to use the fish-based buff: Severed Sagefish Head.
The thing is, the cost of a fortune cookie has been about 50% less than the Sagefish version of the buff, plus you get a fortune card from the deal. As a market savvy raider/dungeoneer, I've always preferred the cheaper fortune cookie. But surprisingly, not everyone goes that route. Maybe they don't know it exists. Maybe they think their "other useful stat" won't actually be useful, instead trusting a tooltip that lists the exact stat. I'm not sure what the deal is.
But here's what I do know: For most of the expansion, I've been selling the Severed Sagefish Head at about 100% profit (in other words, doubling my money). Prices were consistently high because the fish could only be caught by fishing in open water. There was no pool available to give a guaranteed Deepsea Sagefish. That is, up until last week.
A recent hotfix (see December 20 note) has removed the Algaefin Rockfish pools and replaced them with Deepsea Sagefish. This means you can more reliably farm them by fishing in pools, no matter what your fishing level as pool-fishing is a guaranteed catch. Prices are down a bit on average, but their still better than the fortune cookie.
And despite the higher cost, they still sell. If you don't have much gold, or just enjoy killing time while waiting for a queue to pop, head out to Twilight Highlands for some easy gold.

Subject: Goldmaking
Requirements: One extra account, at least vanilla.
Time required: 1 minute per gaming session.
Professions needed: Fishing, skill level 1.
Expected gold: 500g per hour. Calculated from 1 account fishing and a Volatile Fire price at 5g each.
I recently read a study on how you could characterize the typical gamer. I’m only going to mention
select parts of it here, most certainly taken out of context, so don’t get stuck on the validity or
reliability of these factoids. But I found at least parts of it fitting myself.
According to these scientists, your typical MMO gamer is:
- Above average intelligence.
- Highly adaptable to new intellectual situations.
- Able to keep a high level of concentration for extended periods of time.
- Very good at multitasking.
- Dexterous and with fast reactions.
Whether these things are a prerequisite for success in gaming or a result of the intellectual stimuli
you get while playing, I don’t know. The thing I do know and care about is this:
We can use it to make gold.
What really caught my eye here was the Very good at multitasking part. Most of us here play quite
a lot, doing very different things. I’d say the only common part of them all is the waiting. Waiting for
Arena/BG queue, waiting for the pull in an instance, flying/running while questing, you name it.
For myself the majority of the waiting is while raiding, waiting for the pulls, even waiting for energy
for my next ability. Here’s where the multitasking comes in, you can almost always spare a second
here and there. But how do you make gold with one second once every twelve (minutes/seconds)?
You guessed it, fishing! What we’ll be fishing is Volatile Fire. You can fish this from a Pool of Fire,
just a normal fishing pool except it only gives Volatile Fire. Four of these spawn in Mount Hyjal and
Twilight Highlands. Each pool yields 1-8 volatile fire and has a 12 minute respawn time. That means
20 – 160 per area every hour.
I used this extensively during the progress of the first raid tier in Cataclysm. I have two monitors
and three accounts, so I set my main screen as my raid screen and on my off screen I had two small
windows with one character in Hyjal and one in Highlands. This way I fished on average 800 Volatile
Fire each raidnight, which sold at 15-20 gold each in those days. It’s still very profitable, especially
with 4.2 around the corner where the demand for Volatile Fire is expected to rise, as is the time
spent raiding.
Now I understand that most people might not have 2 monitors and 3 accounts with an 85 on each,
nor a computer that can handle that while raiding at the same time. But that’s really not needed.
The only thing you need is one extra account, doesn’t even have to be upgraded beyond vanilla (you
could make sure to buy when Blizzard are offering promotionals, something which happens from
time to time).
You will need to make a few changes to the in game settings before you start.
- First, set your Display Mode to Windowed (Fullscreen). Options -> Graphics -> Display Mode. This lets you tab between your games faster.
- Then raise Ambience volume to max while lowering all other sounds to 0. Options -> Sound -> volume. This makes the fishing sound loud and clear.
- Then check the box that says Sound in Background in the same menu. Now you should be able to hear your bobber sound even while dodging Shadowcutters of Doom on Sinestra.
- If your computer needs it, you can also lower Max Background FPS, so that your fishing account doesn’t strain your computer as much. Options -> Advanced -> Max Background FPS.
Now you should be ready. Log in to both accounts, make a level 10 character and get fishing on
him, pools luckily ignore fishing skill. Summon him to Hyjal (it’s better than Highlands for low level
characters since there are no mobs around there) and place him by the poolspawns. If you have a
character with a flying mount, you can fly in the middle of the lava lake and you can catch any pool
spawns with only a glance. When you raid, tab over once in a while until you catch a spawn. Start
fishing and tab back and keep playing until you hear the fishing bobber. Start a long cast/drain your
energy, tab over and loot the fire and cast your line again, then tab back. Repeat until the pools are
fished out, stick to your main account for 12 minutes, and then start checking for new pool spawns.
You will pretty soon get in to it and find that you can keep fishing and still keep a full DPS rotation
without missing any pool spawns. I know, I did.
While doing this you will get competition by other players, but most of them will fly past looking for
pools and fly away if they can’t find any. Thanks to this, you can keep the area for yourself as long as
you make sure you fish the pools as soon as they spawn, thus not letting anyone else get their hopes
up.
If you do this, you get yourself a new account, which is good for several reasons. You get the Recruit
a Friend leveling bonus, mount and free month of game time. You also get a great chance to start
an Alchemy Army. Not to mention a pretty large sum of gold every raid night, without spending any
extra time.
The only downside I’ve found is that you can’t really browse www.kuvaton.com while raiding
anymore…
Feel free to share any other gold making activities that suit raid multitasking!
I simply love doing the outlands fishign daily, it's one of my secret tips that I've kept to myself for a very long time. I'm sure some/most of you have done at least the stormwind fishing daily once or twice, the bag that you receive give you mediocre rewards at best, while the outlands fishing daily bag has a chance to contain a ton of valuable items & even four different pets.
There are a total of four different quests that you can obtain from , they are Bait Bandits, Felblood Fillet, Shrimpin' Ain't Easy & The One That Got Away. They're all extremely easy to do and require roughly 5-10 mins to complete.
First and foremost, I'll list the four pieces of level 1 clothing that can be sold at the AH for insane prices:
- Antique Silver Cufflinks
- Gold Wedding Band
- Noble's Monocle
- Ornate Drinking Stein
On top of the four mentioned items, you also have a chance at obtaining greys which can vendor up to 25g. If that's not enough, you also have a chance at an epic level 70 ring named The 2 Ring. This thing is semi-rare and is worth a small fortune. I've gotten one in the past and managed to sell it for 2500g after a week or so of listing it at the auction house.
Now, if that's not enough to convince you, there is also the chance at obtaining four pets. They're all the same type of a pet ( a small crocodile ) but each pet has their own coloring/shading. They're great if you're going for the pet achievements. With 4.1 is bringing the 100 & 125 pet achievements you'll want to do this daily if you don't have these pets yet.
What are you waiting for? You're only 5 minutes away from a possible 2,500g, get out there are do these quests!
Post taken from the JMTC Wow Gold Forums and was written by MadCatter under the "Farming Strategies" section. If you haven't checked out the forum here at JMTC you're missing out no a wealth of information.
"I make about 4-500g an hour fishing. My way to do it is by the INSANE number of glacial salmon pools in Grizzly Hills. On my server, the salmon is about 50g/stack, and I can get reliably 8 stacks an hour, sometimes more, plus lots Suckerfish. When posting on the AH, I post half in stacks of 10, and half in stacks of 20, and they sell at about the same rate.
Finally, the route: I just circle the northern logging camp. If you have Gathermate or something of that nature, look at on your map. It is completely surrounded with salmon pools. The only downtime you have is when flying between the pools, yet they are packed pretty tightly. There is also large amounts of tiger lily there too, and a small amount of cobalt.
Thanks for listening!
PS: Pools can be fished with fishing skill one, so as long as you have that and a fishing pole, you can fish there."
What a great email for fishermen in northrend that own wintergrasp:
Whats up Marky Mark, Benladin 80 BE pally Agamaggan, i came across a lil somethin i like to call "spiritual immunity fishing", on the west side of WG at the Broken Temple grave yard, facing WG if you stand at the edge facing the water you can cast and fish while under the effect of spiritual immunity, in other words, fish all you want without being ganked, its funny to see fail ally trying to gank, not noticing im immune and wonder why i own with a fishing pole.anyway, im thinking you can use this as your next topic, maybe even turn it into a game somehow see who the first to post a SS or define the phrase "spiritual immunity fishing" or we can keep it our lil secret and make all the gold. well thats justmytwocopper im adding to this wonderful gold making blog.
Awesome tip and I don't think I need to add anything to it, as Achilliz already did a great job with the details in this email:
Hi there,
I don't know why, but not many people bother to cook on my server, so I do it for alot of money.
I go to Fish [Dragonfin Angelfish] in the river between Dragonblight and Grizzly Hills (only in pools, so no fishing skill is needed).
In about an hour, I fished 105 Dragonfin Angelfish, about 10 reinforced creates, and alot of Pigmys.
I bought 105 northrend spices for less then 100g. In my server, both Blackened Dragonfin and Dragonfin Filet go for about 6-7 per one.
I sell then in stacks of 2, they sell very fast.
105*6.5-100 = 582.5 gold without even considering all the other stuff I fished.
Please don't do it on my server :P
--
Achilliz (Karazhan-EU)
Cooking, like every other profession has what I like to call 'sweet spots' that make leveling it difficult because materials are no longer farmed on a regular basis.
For Blacksmithing this is thorium bars, for tailoring it's bolts of netherweave (largely due to bag makers buying up the cloth), etc.
When I was going through auctioneer I noticed something peculiar that really surprised me: Burning Crusade fish going for 60 gold a stack. At first I thought it was just some fool dumping his guild bank, but after watching the market for a week I noticed that it was actually pretty active with about six sellers and obviously more than one buyer. Since the food from these fish weren't appearing on the auction house I had to assume that it was for cooking. Having leveled my only cook during BC I never knew this market existed until now!
Spotted fel-tail and Crescent-Tail Skullfish seem to be the real money makers, possibly for the 330 and 335 cooking recipes that these are required for.
Definately add these to your snatch list as they can easily sell at 2-3 gold a piece.
The addon Routes is a great way to create your own map for flying around like mad and collecting some ores. The best part is that you can import the entire wowhead database to assist in your mining/herbing/clouding/fishing/etc needs. Here's an excellent write up of how to use routes by Sekirei.
Hellos. For those who are wondering what Routes and Gathermate are or how to set them up here is a short guide.
1. Download and install the two addons(duh) and make sure to get the gathermate_data file as well.
2. In game do /gathermate and use the import database option choosing the type of resource you'd like to import: Herbs, Clouds, Mining nodes, Fishing pools etc.
3. After import is done and you can see a shitload of dots on the map do /routes.
4. Chose the option "Add", select the zone you'd like to create a route for, put a name there and hit OK.
5. Chose the type of resource you want to make the route for and hit Create route.
6. Your map should be full of crazy lines at this moment. Select the zone you created the route for and then select the actual route. Go to optimize and hit cluster and then Foreground.
7. If you did this right a nice continuous line should appear on the map.
All thats left to do now is mount up and go gather and laugh in the face of the other lesser farmers >:).
I know this is a big wall of text and I thank you for reading and hope this will help your gathering future :).

I have just seen that a currently worthless fish is getting a recipe in 3.1 that will have better health AND mana regen than any in the game right now. This fish even has existing pools right now and people fish these up a ton just on accident and put them on the ah for cheap.
Borean man O' war will be able to be made into black jelly which restores 18000 health and 15000 mana over 30 sec. The next closest only gives back 1500/1290 over 30 sec.
Well it looks like the choice is obvious, (pun intended!) buy out those Borean Man O'wars while they stay super cheap!
If you're looking to fish these then Howling Fjord or Borean Tundra are your best spots. They do drop occasionally in some of the mid level zones as well.
EDIT: I'd like to clarify on one point if I may, based on the comments so far. DO NOT cook these fish immediately after the patch! Instead, try selling the fish to those that want to cook it themselves, and vary the stack sizes (1, 5, 10 , 20). I have no idea if these will sell better cooked or as raw fish, so only cook them if the market is strong and otherwise sell the fish raw. Atleast if you avoid cooking them after the patch you will have an option.
Level 6-10 boars drop boar meat (who'd of thought), which sells for 2-10 gold PER STACK!
Nothing a lowbie can farm beats this, and the best part is there is never much competition so your stacks sell the same night you post them. My level 11 shaman that I just made dropped 15 of these off at the auction house and sold them 1 gold each that same night. It was nice having more gold than the level of my character at level 11 :)
Each starting area has comparable meat to the orc one, such as lynx meat for bloodelves.
As you level there's another meat that sells equally well in the auction house for a similiar price: Clam Meat.
You'll get these from clams dropped by the turtles of the barrens (as well as small lustrous pearls). You can farm these outside of wailing caverns and camp the rare spawn hydra which drops an awesome offhand weapon as well as a sword. While there you might as well fish up some deviate fish from the schools nearby, since the price of deviate fish has gone up on most servers with so many people leveling and so few farming.
I'd suggest being atleast level 15 before you farm in the lake. Miners and herbalists will be pleased with the numerous nodes scattered throughout the lakes in the barrens as well.

What can this list do for you?
Help you make gold of course! Take a look at what items give the same/better stats of the same type, this will help you decide which items to buy/avoid on the auction house. For instance, Nettle Fish can be cooked for +30 crit/+40 stam but Spiced Wyrm Burgers are worth +40 crit/+40 stam. Obvioiusly raiders are going to want the Wyrm Burgers over the Nettle Fish.
Another thing I wanted to bring up: did you notice that the feasts (useable raid wide) have no crit rating on them? This means that foods with crit rating are going to sell better than ap/stam/spell power foods since the feasts will cover these areas and there is no reason to eat these foods over a feast.
Hopefully these tips will help you focus on which items you want to farm for fishing/cooking up some WOTLK delicacies.

There are several items which many pvp players purchase off the auction house to give them a competetive edge in world and battleground player vs player fighting environments. The goal of this article is to outline what consumables pvp players will want to spend their gold on and the mats required to make them. If you are an alchemist, this will be the #2 way you make money; #1 being raid pots which some pvper's will buy anyway.
Below is a list of alchemy potions and two popular engineering grenades. Next to each name are a possible 5 stars depending on how well I feel the item sells on the auction house.
Swiftness Potion *****
Requires Swiftthistle, Briarthorn, Empty Vial
Health Potion *****
Requires Goldclover, Icethorn (2), Imbued Vial
Mana Potion *****
Requires Lichbloom (2), Goldclover, Imbued Vial
Free Action Potion ****
Requires Blackmouth Oil (2), Stranglekelp, Leaded Vial
Resistance Potions ***
Requires Khadgar's Whisker, Purple Lotus, Crystal Vial
Invisibility Potion **
Requires Ghost Mushroom, Sungrass, Crystal Vial
Catseye Elixir **
Requires Goldthorn, Fadeleaf, Leaded Vial
Swimspeed Potion *
Requires Swiftthistle, Blackmouth Oil, Empty Vial
And for the engineers:
Frost Grenades **
Requires Icy Blasting Primers, Fel Iron Casing, Handful of Fel Iron Bolts
Adamantite Grenades **
Requires Adamantite Bar (4), Handful of Fel Iron Bolts (2), Elemental Blasting Powder
New Items
Kaliope runs a blog focused on trade skills in wow and he recently wrote an article discussing some of the new potions which came with 3.0.8. I think pvp'ers and players in general will be interested in these new items. Check out Kaliope's post on the subject here.
The Glassfin Minnow is used in the new Ethereal Oil which Kaliope describes in his post. The Ethereal Oil can be used to turn your character semi-transparent or be combined six at a time to make Elixir of Water Walking. These fish have had no use since they were implemented but now they are the primary ingredient for the new potions. For farming locations and item information visit here. You'll find the fish in the river that flows beneath the floating city of dalaran. I definately advise fishing there to make some gold because these potions are going to be very popular. Oh and did I mention that it takes a whopping SIX FISH for one elixir?
Kaliope's blog is a great resource for more information on all professions. His writing style is down to earth and written as a conversation rather than a list of information for readers to process.
