Patch 5.2: Prepping for the rush

Investment prepping for Patch 5.2 has already begun.   A couple of weeks ago your favorite Gold Goblin suggested starting to pick up raw materials including Ghost Iron Ore and Trillium Ore (both Black and White) to be able to resell.

Wrathion,  that favorite guy who no one knows if he's a good guy or not will be given an epic quest line in patch 5.2.   One of the steps is going to require 40 trillium bars to continue on.   This not only will have a direct action on the resale value of trillium,  but it will have an effect server wide on different items.

Look for anything that has to do with crafting that uses Trillium bars (i.e.  Living Steel,  armor) to be affected by the initial rush to grab as much trillium as possible.   Journals all over the blogosphere are already having their readers jump on this.

As a Gold Goblin,  your goal is to buck the system.   Picking up the raw materials will be a good investment. But also look for the offshoots of this rush to affect other products.   Living Steel Belt Buckles will take a jump as players look to get the newest and greatest items.   The New PVP gear will also be affected by the
rush to pick up Ghost Iron Ore and bars.

Also don't neglect your other material pick up as well.   Players will be grabbing new pants so Leg Armors such as the Ironscale Leg Armor will be in demand at the beginning.  Don't have Leatherworking?  How about picking up some Magnificent Hide to get a quick flip.  Or call your own Avengers team from your cartel and start a nice manufacturing circuit.   Send the materials to your favorite Leatherworker with a nice healthy tip,  then post up for sales.

The object as has been shared many times is to think not just the direct sales,  but also the alternate sales as one major change or demand will affect.   Good money can be made from the direct sales,   gold goblin money is obtained from thinking outside the box.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

How Do You Effect The Market?

Mommar here

The World of Warcraft economy can be viewed as a living, breathing system.   If you play on a low population server your economy can easily be viewed as being on life support.   Other servers that have a high population the economy can be running a marathon every day.

The question to always ask yourself is just how much do you effect the economy?   How much do you affect the everyday Warcraft lives of other players?   Are you a feared investor that can lead the charge.  Or are you completely ignored in the masses of players adding and subtracting from the economy.

Each time you act on a tip from this blog or the countless other journals found on the blogosphere,  you add a fraction of life to the economy.   Every fraction adds up to a whole number of intricate breathes and flows that keep the economy running smoothly.    The pack can grab an idea they read and head on full charge into  the strategy,  diluting the possibility of the suggested strategy from being fruitful.   So jumping on the train as quickly as possible and staying ahead of the charging bulls can make your work that much more productive.

So keep in mind that every time you buy something.  Every time that you sell an item or invest in a strategy you are adding to the economy.   Giving the breath of life to your server economy for one more day.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

He's So Great He's A Fivefather

It's Lunar Festival time.    One of the 'traveling' holidays that has you going from area to area to kiss up to those that came before you.

Where if you look at the top it would seem to be much more difficult to make gold during this holiday.  No obvious holiday boss to kill.  But there are a few suggestions on how to rack up some good gold.

If you honor all of the different elders around Azeroth,  Northrend and Even Outland you can obtain a maximum of 85 Coins of Ancestory.    If you have bought all of the items necessary to finish the achievement a good purchase would be the appropriate lantern (Festival Light for Horde or Lunar Lantern for Alliance).   In the next couple of days there should be many of these appearing to be bought.   If the flood hits your server quickly,   take your new pet and tuck him into your bank.  When the sales stop drop him on the cross faction auction house in Tanaris.   If you can work out a deal with a friend or can swap it across to one of your toons you can net a nice profit by selling the lantern on the opposite faction auction house.

The gang at Icy-Veins.com has put up an excellent guide on the lunar festival including exact placement for the elders to talk too.    Give them some link love to make your quest much easier.   A good option to obtain gold is to advertise in Trade chat if you have a two seat mount.   Dragging someone who might not have the ability to get to certain areas can net you a certain amount of gold into your pocket.

And where I won't be offering any tokens,  If you want to treat me like an Elder you can probably find me in Orgrimmar.   Kissing up is accepted.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Patch 5.2: Farming For Rep.. With A Farm?

Mommar here.

Have you ever asked yourself is this the end of what to do in Halfhill?  You run there every day.   You pick your crop,  you invest in more seed,  and you plant more crop.   You do some menial tasks including killing multiple sorts of birds,  rats,  monkeys and even find the occasional apple buried in some dirt.

All of this so that you can cook more and more epicurean delights and maximize your reputation with The Tillers.   Sounds like a barrel of non stop fun and adventure.    Wake me up when the next patch hits.

With patch 5.2 this all changes.   5.2 introduces the idea of work orders that factions around Pandaria will give to you to plant and cultivate materials they can use.   If you remember the original daily dungeon quests in Shattrath city and how they were implemented this will be very similar.  But instead of having to run a dungeon,  you'll need to both plant and pick the assigned vegetables.   Unfortunately if they keep with that idea then there will not be a way to actually stock up on vegetables to sell to complete the daily task.

The new work order program does seem to require two things.   You will need to have opened up all 16 slots on your farm and have obtained Exalted status with The Tillers to start this process.   The does not cover all of the different reputation grinds that have to be done during Mists of Pandaria but it will help shorten up some of the grinds to the more time consuming grinds (Klaxxi,   Golden Lotus).   Requiring all 16 plots.  Icy-Veins.com has a good walk-through on the reputation grind with The Tillers.

Also make sure that once you hit revered you purchase the Grand Commendation that is available from most of the different reputation quartermasters.  This will shorten up your grind from Revered to Exalted.

So why is this important to gold making?   Well there are two pieces of common logic when it comes to planting in Halfhill.   First finish up the daily from Farmer Yoon,  then either plant Enigma Seed for the chance to obtain random crops and Golden Lotus.  Or plant Song Bell Seed to obtain 16 motes of harmony (1.6 spirits of harmony per day).  This is going with the normal process of planting the Farmer Yoon crop of the day and digging it up to replant whichever plant you choose to let grow.

With the new work order program this could effect the production of Golden Lotus production.   Players might have to fill up between 4-8 of their plots to finish up each daily work order.   If you are planting the Engima seed then that gives you only half the chances of getting the Golden Lotus crops to bloom.   This could easily cause a spike in prices for Golden Lotus sales.     Just keep an eye on your sales and investment opportunities as the stock starts to dwindle.

Halfhill sounds exciting doesn't it?    Okay,  well maybe not all that thrilling unless your into planting and growing more crops on order.   But anything that makes the reputation grinding a little bit easier is a good thing right?   So sharpen up those plows and hoes and lets get ready to plant.

Good Luck and Good Planting

Archealogy: Digging up stuff for gold

Mommar here.

Patch 5.2 is going to be bringing some changes to our favorite red headed stepchild profession Archeology.   Leveling Archaeology became a little bit more interesting (a little bit) with the additional digsites per area and some of the trinkets.

One of the changes that have been dug (get it dug hee hee) out of the testing realms is the addition of another type of fragment.  The Mantis history will finally begin to be discovered.   Where there isn't a lot of information involved,  I would look to see a lot of new history to the bug wars as well as some new toys and even a few new weapons to find and clean up.

Undoubtedly with the new mantis fragments there will be some high requirements to obtain.  I would expect that the majority of the fragments won't be available to anyone that hasn't reached at least 525 on their Archeology (same as minimum level for digging things up in Pandaria).  Also the odds are that since the Klaxxi Kingdom is found mostly in the Dread Wastes you should have at least the majority of quests done in the area to have access to the phased areas.

If you did any digging during Cataclysm you remember that some of the dig sites were obscured due to the unlocking of some events in Uldum.  So if you're like me and love the lore you should get a head start on having this area cleaned out of quests before the 5.2 Patch.

Get ready to grab your pick and hit some rocks.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Phoning It In....

Some days it's nice to be lazy.

There are just days that I do not want to spend the next hour or so adding auctions and sorting through bought material.  I would like to just get my gold for the day and maybe add a few big sale items.

There is not anything wrong with this.  Making gold is not a sprint.  It is a marathon of posting up auctions,  selling crafts and working your gold making strategy.  Warcraft has been around for over 7 years now.  And the Auction House has been around as well.   There will be days that you want to post everything and rack up big sales.  Holidays,  days after new patches etc.   These are the days that allow a Gold Goblin to take the occasional day off to relax,  watch a movie and enjoy life.

Professional sports are opening up to the idea of encouraging their target audience to get out and play.   The same can be said about Gold Goblins.  Whether a Goblin is single or balancing between family and gaming life.  The important part is to know that it's okay to enjoy the real world.

Warcraft will be here when you get back.   I promise

Daily Quota Buying

Mommar here.

There are times that ideas and suggestions I get are from the strategies I have used.  Other times they are from different media.   All of them I will use at one point or another.

As I was watching TV the other night one of my favorite shows to watch was on.   "American Pickers' is a show where two men who own a store go around the United States for what they refer to as 'Rusty Treasure'.    If you have ever seen the show you know they will buy odds and ends in the search for things they can flip to clients for a profit.

The other night's episode talked about suggestions one of the pickers gave to the other about how to increase his buying ability.   Many of his ideas works in negotiation with people willing to sell.   One of their ideas stood out in the idea of setting a quota with each stop on how many items they were looking to buy for resale.

Flipping items (buying items for a low price to resell at a higher price) is one of the bread and butter markets for Gold Goblins.   But with many players it becomes touch and go on just how many items and how much they are going to buy.   One day will be two items,  while others will be 20 items.   Their profits end up being dependent on the whims of who is selling items.

So taking a queue from the boys from Iowa in the show,  I looked to set a quota of exactly how many items I would be buy every day for resell.   Each server and each Gold Goblin will be different depending on their combination of skill,  gold reserves and overall health of the server economy.   But setting a reasonable goal each day will allow you to have much more control of your spending and selling habits than being dependent on the whims of the server economy itself.

This doesn't mean you cannot buy over your quota.   The goal is to obtain at least that amount of items at your set percentage of profit.  For flips I usually shoot for 50% for items 100 gold or less and 25% for items 100g or higher.   The higher the amount of the flip, the more I'm willing to accept a lower percentage of profit.

Keeping tabs on your buys and your profits will set you in the drivers seat of your income sports mobile.  Instead of in the trunk hoping someone will let you out for some air.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Who Are You Feeding Sales Too?

Mommar here.

Every so often I will go and take a friend out to eat.    Sometimes we will pay for each other,  other times it's pay for your own.   Occasionally I will even put a crowbar into the wallet and pay for it all.   This is separate from going out on a date since I tend to pay for the food on a date.   Yes,  I've a caveman when it comes to dating....

So how does this apply to Warcraft gold?    I love sales.  I love logging on and seeing 10 to 20 sales on each of my toons.   I let it auto collect all of my gold and then move on.   But occasionally I will take a look and see just who purchased what items.  If it's one or two items then it's just filed in my mind under miscellaneous information.  But every so often I will see that one person bought 10 to 20 of an item.   My mental gears start rolling and I question why this is.   Am I missing an opportunity for more gold from this person?  Or am I missing a new system that might be applied to my own strategy.

There are times I will contact the person to talk to them.   If I think it's because they may buy more then we can negotiate.   If they seem to have a good idea I look to see if it is something that I might be able to use.   There are very few systems that will limit how many people can be working with before it becomes over saturated and nonviable for gold making.

So just a little bit of knowledge and leg work can bring in a better sale from a player.   Also it can provide a new avenue of sales or investment that will pay off in future endeavors.  All for the price of a meal.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Taking Advantage of 5.2 PVP Gear Changes

Selling to PVP players is a niche market for some servers.  On other servers it's a cash cow that can be untapped until you obtain the right knowledge.

With patch 5.2 there are some major changes in the gear and how it effects your PVP score.

  • Dreadful will be the crafted gear (ilvl 458) -
  • Malevolent will be the gear obtained via honor points (ilvl 483)
  • Tyrannical is obtained via conquest points in 5.2 (after obtaining 27000 conquest points will be available via honor points in 5.3)
  • Elite Tyrannical is obtained via Conquest points after 27000 conquest points in the season)
The big change will be there will no longer be any rating limit to obtain gear.   Many players were unable to upgrade pieces of gear because they either obtain high ratings in the arena.   More gear means more chances for upgrades and enchants.

That artificial line that was at 2200 stopped many players from capping off their honor/conquest points.   Giving access to the higher gear will allow players to enjoy the high level PVP without getting as frustrated because they are not as accomplished as others are.

This also should spark an increase in PVP stat gems and pure stat gems.   It also may bring back players who were burnt out on the storyline content and just need to open up a can of whoop butt on someone.

All in all I like these changes if they stay at this level.   And should add a large amount of gold in the right pockets if the Gold Goblins are prepared.   Buying inexpensive materials for enchants now and belt buckles
(Either the raw Living Steel needed for production or the belt buckles themselves.).

Look at what the population of your realm feels about PVP.  If it is an active server then jumping on this opportunity is a no brainer.  If your realm is less attractive when it comes to PVP you may want to just dip your foot in the water and see what occurs.   This is where your research on the warcraft forums can be very beneficial.   A little knowledge can go a long way.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Patch 5.2 Prep: Will players be returning?

The burnout of Mists of Pandaria hit much quicker than most expected.    Perhaps it was the huge amount of dailies that were seemingly required to keep up with the proverbial Joneses.   Or players running out of options after they had alread leveled one or two toons.     Older guilds seemed to be slowing down or even disappearing off the world stage.

5.2 is shaping up to bring a new spark to play.  With a brand new zone and more story lines those that enjoy reading the story throughout will be whisked back into a game that for many already became stale.

This is where Gold Goblins can look to take advantage again for players returning for another bite of the Mists of Pandaria apple.  Gear will again end up being important to get players raid ready as quick as possible.   And with the announcement that there will not be be the ability to fly in the new zone (everyone remembers Burning Crusade and the Blood Elf zones) it should bring a new burst of excitement for gear and enhancements.

If you haven't already started gathering and saving materials for your enhancement crafts,  now is an excellent time to get started.   From Belt buckles to leg armor to even gems,  looking for deals and ready to flip when the doors open to the new areas will put you on top of the Gold Goblin list.

More info gets reported with the PTRs,  and with sales of Raw gems stumbling now would be a good idea to look to get some farming under your belt.   Maxxing out your Valor Points will help to get you geared up quicker than before.   There hasn't been any announcement on points resetting (generally for the patches they do not reset) so making sure you're staying at the max (3000) and spending them accordingly will keep you in the game.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Sales Triage

Mommar here.

If you have ever skinned your knee or played a sport you understand a little bit about triage and prioritizing
wounds.   Treating a small cut before treating a more impactful wound doesn't help in the long run.  It could cause the one wound to become infected and worsen.

The same thing can be looked at in your sales.   Any person who sales they never lose money is either selling you something or playing things safe.    Being a gold goblin sometime entails risks.  High risk can mean high reward.  But it also can cause wound that need to be treated.   And too many wounds your empire can start a downward spiral.

This is where Triage economics can come into play.   If your seeing your fortune not growing or even diminishing you should perform a short quick diagnosis to the problem.   Where exactly are you losing gold at?  What items are not selling quickly and profitably?   Which of your items is sitting on the shelf only to be liquidated at the end of their value life?

Triggering a quick fix to these can cause your downward spiral to turn around.   If you are listing items at too high,  being dependent on quoted prices from different websites.  Look to see whether your economy can support that.   Are you cutting raw gems into pure stat gems (+str,  +int, + agi) only to see them sell low and get undercut continually.   Perhaps cutting mixed gems (+main attribute and +secondary attribute) can provide you with more opportunity for sales and profit.

Identifying where a wound is and fixing it quickly can keep your sales from becoming infected,  allowing you to continue at full speed instead of languishing slowly from diseased income.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Lost In The Guild Traffic

A long time ago in a far far far away expansion I used to raid consistently.   This was well before the times of Looking for raid check boxes.   There were two types of raids.  Guild raids and the random pick up raids that happened in trade chat.   I'm keeping from going through the including of having to walk 5 miles uphill in 6 foot of snow to get to those raids.  I'm old what can i tell you.

Many guilds have switched from a your on your own type of raid preparation to much more organization for potions,  weapons and crafting materials.   If you have a well prepared guild there really is no need for gold per see since the higher guild levels allow money to be deposited automatically in the guild bank.

But there is still a necessity to make sure that someone knows who does what.   I still find it interesting to see in my guild where people aren't completely familiar with what crafts player have.   Many guilds switched to a website system where the patterns they have are listed.   Having a simple pad and paper can save you lot of hunting to see who can do what.

All of my guild mates who actually pay attention know that they just need to drop material in the mail and ask me to craft it and the odds are I will do it for them.  If you have been keeping up with my writings and missives you know I do not charge Guildees for these types of services.   I fleece the unsuspecting to be able to provide for those I like (just kidding,  a little bit).

So the question I would ask is where is your niche in making gold?   Whether you are just starting your gold goblin ways or are experienced.  Do you still offer a slot to the guild to help?    Are you a gold expert to help the new guild members have a stable amount of gold for repairs?   Do you have the slot of craftsmen to prepare players needs and gear?   Are you just the information post that people can go to to know where to get things done?   Or do you even show up and say anything?   Are you lost to your guild because they have no idea what you bring to the table?

Being a guild member and being a gold goblin are very similar.  If your name and your items are not on every ones lists of needs,  then you are easily forgotten to others.  Others that may not be as experienced as you or have your capabilities.   The only way to know is to put yourself out there and make yourself known.

And that does not mean a little naked mail box dancing isn't fun also.

Good Luck and Good Hunting\

Finally the end of Cataclysm

Mommar here.

So finally after 5| months after the cataclysm ended and the pandas invaded the last of my investments from cataclysm have been sold.   Having dabbled in low blues,   minerals,  enchanting materials,  a couple of Mechano-hogs and other odds and ends I finished forging,  selling,  repurposing and even some giving away to guildmates and friends of items I had saved for Mists of Pandaria.

After all the numbers are ground out including the giveaways I ended up with a profit range of around 55%.   Not quite what I expected but enough to make it worth the investment.    One thing I found that cannot be seen in the gross numbers is that I enjoyed searching,   working on strategies and overall investing of my gold.   Probably more enjoyment that I would have just from spending to buy items.

Some of the investments were disappointing including minerals.   There was not as much surge in the minerals market from the start as I expected.  Later on while the expansion was maturing sales began to pick up as there were less and less farmers looking at low level materials.

A lot of the 'blame' is laid at the feet of the BMAH.   Players with large amounts of money were looking to save gold for the mounts they always wanted.  While players just getting started were startled by the inflation on items as they were leveling.   This had a wave effect causing players to maybe be less apt to buy items that would be quickly tossed away.

Some servers were much more healthy economy wise than others.  The more players on the server the more inflation could be adjusted and controlled.   And as with any Gold Goblin not all of my investments panned out.   But overall I was happy with what occurred.

Soon it will be looking to invest for the 5.2 patch.   We will be tackling that in the next week or so the more information that is released from players and the powers that be.   I expect a lot of chances for making gold and to make that swimming pool of gold a lot bigger.   Might need to build an extension on it soon.

Good Luck and Good Hunting
