Making Gold With Runecloth

Hey guys, Alerick here again, and today I'm going to be talking to you guys about a once common but now generally overlooked niche market for raking in profit. The market I'm talking about is Runecloth. Now, I understand that on some servers this might not be profitable, but I have a simple equation I use that can determine this will work for you, and if you should be using this or not.

Now the reason this trick has become so much more profitable recently, is that earlier in Cataclysm there used to be a much smaller supply of runecloth available for us entrepreneurs to get our hands on for a reasonable price. If you didn't snag a bunch of it when people realized the major city tabards made runecloth turn-ins obsolete, and tried to dump their supplies, you were out of luck. Thankfully, runecloth had been added to the loot table of most of the mobs found in the Hellfire Ramparts dungeon. This has led to a colossal influx of the stuff on my server, for much lower prices than it has ever been at before. The reason the actual dust and essences are worth so much nowadays, is because the items that disenchant into them are greens from the high 50s and from old Vanilla raid content. People tend to head straight to Outlands once they hit level 58, leaving behind all of the gold making opportunity for them, and increasing the scarcity and rareness of the materials; a bonus for us.

When people leveling their characters hit level 58, they are allowed to que for the Hellfire Ramparts dungeon, and this is the only BC dungeon they will have access to for a few levels. So most people tend to spam run it, and while doing this, they accumulate copious amounts of runecloth. I can tell you from experience, that the convenience and high amounts of experience produced from leveling through the dungeon finder make it the most efficient way to level through the high 50s. To my surprise, although the amount of cloth available on the AH skyrocketed, this didn't seem to change the market price in either the best selling BoA enchants the materials can be used for, or the raw enchanting materials themselves. Ever since I've noticed this, I've been buying up all of the runecloth I can get my hands on from anywhere between 8 and 2-3g a stack. Each bolt of runecloth requires 4 cloth to make, and 6 bolts are required to make one headband, as well as two rune threads, less than a gold for both when bought from a vendor. This is an accurate formula I use when figuring out how much gold I make while crafting these headbands, or if it's profitable or not. Keep in mind that these headbands require a Tailoring profession, but only a skill of 295 to craft.

24xRC + 0.80 *?* 0.75x3.5xID + 0.22x3xGEE + 0.03x1.5xLBS

Simplified into:
24xRC + 0.80 *?* 2.625xID + 0.66xGEE + 0.045xLBS
The variables represent the auction values of the cloth and disenchant mats (per item, not stack), including the 5% auction house cut.

GEE=Greater Eternal Essence
ID=Illusion Dust
LBS=Large Brilliant Shard
RC=Runecloth

Plug your servers values/market prices into this equation and figure out whether it'll work for you or not. Keep in mind that if you have access to an enchanter in a level 23 guild or higher, this is an added bonus because of the guild perk that allows you to proc extra mats, and when this occurs think of it as "pure profit".

There are two reasons there is a very high demand for these materials. First off, anyone leveling their enchanting will eventually have to progress through this part of the profession, and when they do, the scarcity of the material they're looking for will either force them into buying your overpriced materials, or make them go out and farm them themselves. Now lets be honest here, what do you think that person would do? I find selling these in stacks of 20 to be the most profitable, and I've sold them for anywhere between 300g and 150g a stack, usually somewhere right around the middle. I hope this works as well for you as it does for me. Good luck, and I'll see you all next week!!

4.3 PTR announced. (First Glance)

Over the next few weeks we will have lots of information as the last reported major patch upgrade
for cataclysm appears on the PTR's.

Information on new patterns and new items were data mined by mmo-champion.   But it is a rough list
of items and models.

With the 4.3 data mining this gives us the first of many chances to start piecing together information
on what it will mean to both the beginning and advanced Power Auctioneers.

Stepping through the professions the biggest thing seen is that there appears to be another crafting
element introduced into the materials needed.

Essence of Destruction seems to be used in all of the new patterns that will be available with the new patch. This probably means that both this items and the patterns will drop either from the bosses or trash runs with the new raids.    As with the previous 4.2 raids,   this item will be very high priced for the first month or so when it's available on the AH.   This also means that living ember,  the 4.2 crafting material,  will probably start to be in higher demand.  Both from the nerfing of 4.2 raids,  plus the
want for added gear to be crafted to raise Item level for the new 4.3 raids.

Here is a list of the new patterns broke down under professions

Tailoring

World Mender Pants
Bracers of Unconquered Power
Dreamwraps of the Light
Lavaquake Legwraps

All of these seem to be dps patterns,  with no healing patterns seen as of yet.   Where the potential for crafting and flipping both the items or the mats are high.   Healing classes may look at the lower 4.2
crafted items to finish off their Class Gear.   Nothing with the opening salvo of information shows that
the dreamweave timer or BOP status will be lifted.   So Investing in the pattern will end up being a high risk/high reward type of scenario.  As with all of these Epic level crafting recipes.

Blacksmithing

Bracers of Destructive Strength
Foundations of Courage
Pyrium Legplates of Purified Evil
Soul Redeemer Bracers
Titanguard Wristplates
Unstoppable Destroyer Legplates

As with the 4.2 Raid Patterns.  None of these appear to use truegold for their crafting.   Ghostcrawler announced in his explanation that there would be multiple patterns.  So it's assuming that these non raid level patterns will probably use truegold as their base instead of the Essence of Destruction.   So truegold as of now is still going to be a viable commodity to craft by alchemist or to save when demand is higher. Chaos Orbs will be used as a traditional material for crafting.   It's guessed that at some point one of the incremental patches will remove the BOP status of chaos orbs,  opening up another market for the non raiding crafter.     Mostly dps plate,  with two pieces of Healing plate has been added.    With the high amount of drops in the Fireland raids associated with healing items.   Healing plate crafted items may not be in high demand.

Leatherworking

Bladeshadow Leggings
Bladeshadow Wristguard
Bracers of Flowing Serenity
Bracers of the Hunter Killer
Deathscale Leggings of the Storm
Legging's of Nature's Champion
Rended Earth Leggings
Thundering Deathscale Wristguards

Each of these recipes take between 8 Pristine hides.   So look for both Heavy Savage Leather
and Pristine hides to be in high demand as these items begin to get crafted.    Stocking up on
Stacks of Heavy Savage Leather for conversion to pristine hide will set you farther ahead of the
Gold wars to come.

Jewelcrafting

The PTR notes are showing that the epic gems will be based on a 50 point seperation.  So epic gems will have either a full +50 to a stat,  or split between the two stats.   This ends up being good news for the non raiding jewelcrafter.  Most people will not spend a huge amount of money to gear for epic gems
with only +10 to their stats.   They are more apt to fill the gem slots with your Rare +40 stat gems or combinations of stats to reach their raiding mark.   With no information released yet on how to obtain patterns this will allow the non raiding jewelcrafter to feed the demand to gems they already have.   A wise jewelcrafter will look to purchase stock raw gems to either flip for profit.  Or to cut when the demand is high and the supply is low.   Also remember that with the new PVP season there will be a large spike for PVP specific Gems (+ resilience,  + resilience/haste,  residence/strength,  resilience/agi).   Stocking up on your raw gems in these categories may give a decent profit in the long term.

  • Notice with blacksmithing there are no high level weapon crafting patterns.   There may be more introduced later.  But it means there will be a larger demand on crafted or dropped items from Deathwing raids themselves.
  • There are multiple lists of items assumed to drop in the Deathwing lair raids.   Multiple boe items (including weapons and trinkets) where their demand will be high as well.
  •  The Raid patterns are taking a high amount of volatile fire and volatile water for crafting.   With 4.2 and the dailies volatile fires were lowered in value.  This may be a good opportunity to purchase volatile fires for crafting while they are low.   And alchemists switching from transmuting volatile airs to volatile water.
  • Snowballs will no longer be used for summoning the Tiny Snowman,  Winter Reindeer, Winter's Little Helper
[addendum]

Maelstrom Shatter has been added to Enchanting.  Will split one maelstrom crystal into two heavenly shards.    Should drive down the prices for heavenly shards while raising maelstroms.

For the list of all the items known from the ptr datamining mmo-champion has given a sorted list here

Easy WoW Gold at Level 5

Author: Yoni.

Hey guys, Yoni here again, bringing you another gold making mini-guide. This is specifically geared towards low level players who don’t have access to maxed out professions. This method is accessible from level 5 and up. To start up, only a few gold are required.

Step one: Create a human character. Level him/her up to 5 and run him into Stormwind. (let some mobs kill you so you spawn at the graveyard, a much shorter walk)

Step two: Sell all your gear and either ask a friend or a guildie for 5 or 10g. (you can start from scratch, but it just takes a lot longer to start up)

Step three: Train Tailoring and Enchanting.

Step four: Level up Tailoring. Level it as far as you can by creating bolts of Linen Cloth.

Frostweave Farming in Cataclysm Patch 4.2

Author: Leo.

The Frostweave farming season has started!

Bags always sell well. We all want them, we all need them, and we always want bigger ones. No surprise that frostweave bags are one of the easy to sell items on the auction house. With easy I mean that you won’t be undercut and are stuck with them for a while. Post them, they sell. Not much competition if you just undercut by a few gold only. They sell like hot cakes.

After Cataclysm came out, the drop rate of frostweave cloth was lowered immensely, you know, to the they-just-don't-drop-anymore kind of rate, and the price of this frostweave cloth has sky rocketed.

In my opinion, with vendors, bank access and mailboxes everywhere, no-one really needs the bigger overpriced bags. But paying 100-200g for a 20 slot bag is definitely worth your gold. At the moment they sell for 200g on my server. The thing is that they stay just under the price of 22 slot embersilk bags.

Break Into A New Market

People always ask me, Hey mageshadow this strategy isn't working for me, is there anything else I can try to make gold? Why of course, there are hundreds of other ways that you can make gold but I'm going to go ahead and give you most personal tips that I just recently started.

It all started out while I was just browsing twitter, when I got a tweet from Markco which really caught my attention, this is what it read:

  • @Mageshadow might want to share this with your followers: http://bit.ly/hCCZX8 - April 11, 2011
I looked into it and the link was to a wowhead page that showed multiple outfits that level 1 bankers can use, so i thought.. well if they use it, surely they have to buy it from the auction house. I quickly started looking up some of the items, monacles, tuxedos, ruby shades, gowns, robes, you name it and after a while I had a nice list of what I could snag/craft and sell at the auction house.

Since then, I've made thousands of gold in about a weeks time. Man you have no idea how little competition there is in this market and how high the profit margins can be. Seriously, go to the above link and check out a couple items on the list - wowhead them and find their locations, then go snag some and list them at the auction house. You'll be making hundreds of gold before you know it, the best part is that most of the items on that list are either vendor bought or can be snagged for cheap and then flipped.

I'll get you guys started on what I found some of the best selling items at the auction house:

Tailoring Unprofitable? Nonsense!

Image Credit: Wow Gold Elite Guide
Almost everyone says " Tailoring just isn't profitable ", well I'm going to prove you wrong. Tailoring is profitable you simply have to focus on a different market other than epics. On most servers epics are selling for below mat cost, this is due to constant undercutting and everyone doing the same thing over and over again. You need to expand and think outside the box.

This is what will make you gold, thinking outside the box. Any who, If tailoring isn't profitable I want you guys to try this out.
  • Buy cheap Runecloth and craft runecloth headbands - Then disenchant them and sell the Illusion dust, Greater Eternal Essence and if you get any, Large Brilliant Shards.
Runecloth is almost always found in bulk and for very cheap. This is a very simple strategy and can turn out to be extremely profitable. If you do not wish to sell the enchanting materials, use then to craft enchants ( 22 Int to Weapon, Spellpower, Healing Power, Mighty Spirit and others )

Also look into crafting frostweave bags for gold. If you're able to pick up some cheap frostweave, you can make a killing making these bags. Another alternative is to farm your own cloth, but I don't suggest this. If you don't wish to craft frostweave bags, craft Wrath of the lich king greens and DE them, the wrath enchanting materials have skyrocketed to an all time high.

Additionally, see if you're able to snag a rich purple silk recipe/pattern for fairly cheap. These shirts sell extremely well at the auction house and have great profit margins.

Also as most of you know patch 4.1/4.2 is well on it's way, patch 4.2 brings a new raid and possibly new profession recipes ( Think TOC Recipes which are BOE ). One thing you can do is craft your Dreamcloth and stockpile it for 4.2, if new patterns/recipes do come out you'll be able to craft multiple epics and sell them at insane prices.

Additionally, check out the Cataclysm Tailoring Gold Guide, it outlines a couple ways you can make gold with Tailoring.

#1 Best Cataclysm Embersilk Farming Spot

A couple months back I did a post of where to farm embersilk, well.. that's now really outdated as Blizzard nerfed the spot that was posted so I thought that I'd update that guide and give you guys the best and new Cataclysm Embersilk farming spots.

The Embersilk farming spot is Tol Borad. I'm sure most of you guys have been here and have seen the cloth drops while doing the dailies here. The mobs are named Restless Soldiers and Restless Infantry, they have 17k hp and are very easy to kill. Above is a map with the location of them. The only real downside is that these mobs are part or are near a quest, and therefore other players might kill them as well. Both the Restless Soldiers & Restless Infantry have a drop rate of 50-52%, and they can drop up to four cloth per mob. It's simply ideal for farming, they're low hp mobs that fight each other, dot classes such as warlocks, shadow priests and even a fire mage ( living bomb ) would excel here if they used the "tag" and move on strategy. It would be even better if you used the best grinding trinket currently in the game.

There is even a wowhead comment that states he looted over 200 cloth in under 35 minutes by grinding these mobs, that would equate to roughly  17-18 stacks in an hour; and even more if you were under the effect of the Potion of Treasure Finding.

Farming cloth is a great alternative if you don't have a gatherer and you don't have a lot of gold on you. It's an easy way to make a couple grand in an hour or two.

Cataclysm Tailoring Gold Guide

Tailoring has always been an excellent way to make gold with, from crafting bags, to crafting spellthreads, or even pvp gear, it's always been an excellent profitable profession. Within this guide I will teach you how to make gold, utilizing old & new methods & items to make heaps of gold.

Cataclysm Spellthreads
Cataclysm Spellthreads are hot right now, especially the epic ones. Why? It's because people are beginning to raid seriously, thus creating a huge demands for these spellthreads. I often see them go for 900-1,100g per, it's great profit for anyone, if you manage to craft the Epic BOE legs you can usually squeeze in a spellthread in there for about 800g extra ( I've done this about 3 times total ).

Wrath Of the Lich King Spellthreads
I have been crafting and selling so many of these it's insane. With the material cost under 5g, I can literally sell these at any price, but I found that 60-75g is the "sweetspot". People don't want to spend 1,000g on stuff that going to get replaced so they think, well hey, this is 75g and isn't that bad compared to that so I'll just buy this until I get my tier 11 pants. The spellthreads you will be crafting are Azure Spellthread and Shining Spellthread.

Dreamcloth Epics
This market can vary at times. Crafting the dreamcloth epics ( there are four total ) can be profitable if you're able to obtain cheap materials. Currently this market can is usually is flooded by other tailors, so profit can vary but I've found that selling the epics via trade chat is an excellent way to avoid the auction house. Read more on crafting Dreamcloth epics here.

Pvp Armor Sets
Pvp sets have been a great way to make gold since Cataclysms release. The profit on some items can be low sometimes due to constant flooding of the market by other Tailors. I find that the patterns that are vendor bought sell much better than trainer taught patterns. You will be crafting the Emberfire & Fireweave Sets. In total there are six different items that you will need to acquire from the vendor in Twilight Highlands, they are as follow for the corresponding sets: Emberfire/Fireweave Cowl , Emberfire/Fireweave Robe, Emberfire/Fireweave Pants.

Crafting and DE'ing
This is another excellent option to make gold with. On my server cloth prices have plummeted, they're down to as low as 35g/stack, so picking up the cloth to craft and DE is an excellent way to make gold. I found that the lower level cataclysm greens are the best to craft because they don't require that many materials. Deathsilk Cowl on takes 3 bolts to craft, and even better the Deathsilk belt takes 2 bolts, either can yield 1-4 dust and 1-4 lesser celestial essence. I would only advice to craft and DE if you manage to get embersilk cloth for cheap.

Crafting Bags
This is one of the best methods to make gold with tailoring. You can craft a multiple number of bags and they will almost always be profitable. The best bag in my opinion is the netherweave bag, it's low cost and sells extremely good, you can read about selling these bags here and here. I would also craft the recently buffed Illusionary bag, it just received 2 extra slots so the die-hard gold makers are going to want these regardless of their price ( Portable Holes cost 3,000g ) so they will be hot to sell. Embersilk bags are also a great to make gold and unload any extra dust you have laying around from doing the obsidium shuffle.

That's all folks! Think I missed something? Drop a comment below and let me know

#1 Best Embersilk Farming Spot

People have been trying to figure out the best farming spot for Embersilk ever since Cataclysm has been out, I have found one of the best spots, thanks to the Consortium forums and Zerohour.

Farming this spot I manage to get a minimum of 200 cloth per hour, topping off at 260 cloth per hour. It really is a great farming spot as the mobs are in packs, hit like pansies and they have a high drop rate of cloth. Top it all off with a potion of treasure finding, you're golden.

The red path is where you will be farming, the mobs are the packs of Jaspertip Swarmer, also you can pull the bats, with the potion of treasure finding everything has a chance to drop the tiny treasure.

The way the potion of treasure finding works is, every mob you kill has a small chance to drop a tiny treasure, One tiny treasure can yield 3-12 cloth, gold, and sometimes volatiles. I find that the drop rate on the treasure is roughly about 5-6% per mob.

If you're not an alchemist, I suggest you go have the potion made for you, or check the Auction House for one, they currently run at around 100g per potion, but it will last you a full hour, spending that 100g will get paid back solely by the gold contained within the tiny treasures.

While farming here, you will also find that you will walk out with tons of greens and grey items, this is great, it's extra income. By farming here for an hours, I estimated I made roughly 2,500g. It's not bad, if you ask me, as the prices for ores and herbs are steadily declining.

Bag Supply & Demand In Cataclysm

Markco,
Literally can't keep up with the number of bags selling.  People who say this doesn't work are crazy and just don't believe you can get rich 6g at a time. On my server, I am still at this minute buying up netherweave at 3.80 a stack and selling them at 9.8~ each faster than I can get the cloth over to my tailor and back to my banker.  Same is going for frostweave bags as well.  Have been buying frostweave  at less than 8g a stack for past 6 weeks meaning bags were roughly 34g for me and have sold dozens today in the 70-80g range.  Even the cloth on the AH now at 10g a stack turns a nice profit.  Only thing not moving is the abyssals but I think I'll just cut them loose for 100g and take a slight loss to make sure I don't get stuck with them.

Guide member & big fan,
Brandon

Excellent tip Brandon! I too have run out of stock, I had enough cloth for 800 bags and I'm completely dry, and so is everyone else. The market is empty as of right no on my server, there is 0 cloth and bags at the Auction house, so those who have stock will be making heaps upon heaps of gold!

As far as frostweave bags go, they too are completely dry, I tried to buy some for my worgen alt, and there were none. Start making these guys! You can make huge profits from them, buy those cheap abyss crystals and shatter them for dust if you have an enchanter.

Twilight Highlands Profession Trainers: Vendor Gold Tip

Well I finally hit level 85 on Markco and am in the process of leveling blacksmithing and enchanting to full in the Twilight Highlands. To my surprise when I visited the vendors there I found an awesome gold making strategy... (see youtube video and subscribe for more updates!). [Note: The vendors have been hotfixed as of this posting to sell the items featured more frequently. This will cause a drop in prices but you should still be able to sell them for double the vendor price at the very least.]

I'll be looking to add more detailed walkthroughs in my gold guide for these particular professions and once I am finished I'll move on to leveling the next character and the next. Perhaps you would like to inform me of which characters you personally would like to see brought to 84 first?  You can choose from the following who are currently at 75-80 each:

Engineer / Miner
Tailor / Leatherworker
Skinner / Miner
Alchemist / Herbalist

Cataclysm Dreamcloth Cooldown & Crafting

Are you using your Dreamcloth cooldown? Wait what's Dreamcloth? You don't know about it? What! Dreamcloth is the new cataclysm special cloth that can be made by using one of every volatile, it's somewhat costly to make depending on the volatile, but it is very profitable if you use the dreamcloth to craft epic tailoring gear

Do you know that, right now, you can spend about 2,000g on making all 5 pieces of Dreamcloth for the week and craft an epic ilvl 359 tailoring piece that can sell for 10,000g+? No?

How does this work?
There are five different ways to make Dreamcloth. Each piece requires 30 of one volatile and can only be crafted once per week, there are 5 different Dreamcloth cooldowns, one for every volatile. Patterns cost 1 piece of Dreamcloth to buy, and 4 to craft.

If you were to buy every single volatile off the Auction House you could still make a nice profit ( ~500% ROI ) but you could also go out and farm your volatiles. Some are easier to farm than others, but you could also use the Alchemy transmutes to make those volatiles that are hard to get and costs a bit at the auction house *cough* Volatile Air

Where is the cloth vendor located?

Crafting Cataclysm Tailoring Pvp Sets

Today pvp starts, arena starts up, rated battlegrounds start, and what is the first thing people will want? Pvp gear. Not only this, but people are starting to ding 85, and they're trying to get their item level up, so they buy any and all gear that will give them those last 9-10 points required to get into heroics. Tailoring has a great set that is excellent to craft and sell, the return on investment is insane, you'll spend 2-2.5k and sell a whole set for 5-6k.

Great! where do I start?
Firstly, you need to go get all of the patterns for the emberfire set from the vendor, you will already have 5 of the 8 patterns taught by your trainer if you've leveled tailoring to 525. The vendor is located in twilight highlands and you're going to need 24 bolts of embersilk to obtain the last 3 pieces of the set. Refer to the map below to locate the vendor, please do note, that you HAVE to be 84 and you MUST do a couple quests before you can see the vendors.

What materials are required for a whole set?

Netherweave Bags In Cataclysm

Let’s fast forward 4 Days Until Cataclysm … Cataclysm hits. People go roll worgen and goblin, people level new alts, what is the first thing they will need? Bags. What is the cheapest bag to craft, yet sells well and has a nice markup? Netherweave bags.

Now you might be thinking, well… those are 16 slotters why in the world would people buy those? Wouldn’t they want 20 slot bags? The thing with 20 slot bags, is that their material cost makes them way more expensive and harder to sell to new and upcoming characters. Currently I can craft a netherweave bag for roughly 3-4g, including the thread, a 20 slot bag costs me about 30-40g to craft, and they sell for a little above that.  I'd rather craft something for cheap and yield the same amount of profit, if not more, than something that is expensive and harder to sell. Netherweave bags also sell is larger quantities than Frostweave bags, in my opinion, as their price is low and it is more affordable to the low levels.

If you're going to seriously sell bags in Cataclysm, you're going to need to know on how to build and maintain a wall. This is going to be extremely important in securing yourself profits, while keeping the competition out of the market.

Cataclysm Profession Break Down

Hello JMTC! I am Miss Mediocre, an average gamer and avid blogger! I was very glad to see that Markco was accepting guest posts about upcoming changes in Cataclysm, as I just recently won myself a Beta Key! I decided to focus my guest post on professions, as I have not yet recognized any
real Cataclysm gold making strategies in my beta travels.

One major improvement they've made in Cataclysm regarding professions is that you can now level from 1-525 in any of the major cities, which means no more irritating trips to Outland and Dalaran for anything above skill level 300! Also, in your profession window there is a new filter that you can check called "has skill up" which is handy for leveling as it will show you only things that you can craft that could result in a skill point.
