News flash. Every server is different. It has a different flavor, a different style and amazingly different people.
Whenever people give tips and tricks on how to make gold there is always the fallout voice that says 'It doesn't work on my server'. Transmog sales on one server might not happen on another. High level raid gear and PVP sales might work on one server while on the other server, it becomes a barren wasteland of relistings for sales.
This is where you need to look at your sales and crafting practices and not always follow the same path. Over the months just on JMTC we have offered hundreds of tips. If you add all the other good warcraft podcasts, journals, email listings, then there are 1000's of tips floating out there on how to make gold in World of Warcraft.
The beauty of being a gold goblin is the ability to decide which ones worked at the time and place that you play on. Finding the lay of the land on your server becomes key to your success. Where I would love to say that I have my finger on the pulse of every server out there, it is impossible for one person let along one journal to know everything.
But what is out there is the tools for you to learn how to interpret each tip and whether it will work in regards to your profit plan. The plan you have developed over the months with your toon army to be able to create a profit flow that continually fills your needs and desires within the World of Warcraft.
So the next tip you see whether it is here (of course it is always here first, right?) or other places, decide for yourself whether it will work on your server. If you're not sure, throw a few gold and see just what sticks to the wall and what ends up not putting gold into your pocket.

Mommar here.
If there is one thing I have said time and time again, Time is money. Granted, it isn't the most original of concepts (long before the Goblins adopted this idea).
In World of Warcraft this is translated to how much time does it take to make your gold. Anyone can make gold if they try. The determination is whether it is the simplest of ways (working on quests, selling raw materials) or much more complex methods (Incarnations of the Saronite shuffle, flipping items etc.). Each of ways can make gold, it mostly depends on how much time you have and just where you place your resources.
This is going to become even more important when the Warlords of Draenor open up its portals for business. Many people will be running around the new version of Draenor when the expansion hits the shelves. New items and new materials to craft and sell. But one of the biggest changes with the garrisons and how they affect the market.
Remember that everyone will be able to create Garrisons. It appears that they will be able to start creating them early in the expansion. Halfhill had a limitation, you were required to complete and ultimately had to hit level 90 before the farm could be put into full motion. Garrisons won't have this limitation it appears. We already know that Garrisons will have all of the major and minor professions, if not in a limited capacity. This will probably mean that a regular miner who can get x amount of ore per node attached will be competing with a non miner who can get their own ore if they are patient. The same thing applies to all of the other professions.
The other thing to keep in mind is that through the different notes and Alpha testing there is already been reported to have garrison only recipes. The specifics are still wondering before a wall of silence from the testers. Supposition basically says to the casual player they will not be needing as much raw material as has been sold in the past from the Auction House.
But don't panic just yet and start creating an army of scribes. There will still be a high demand for all of the professions. Many players are impatient and let their gold they have accumulated overpower the time to create the materials and items on their own. It just means that as a gold goblin you will have to be more shrewd with your time management.
So as we start to count down to the beta release and full release of Warlords of Draenor, keep your time management in mind. How much time are you spending to obtain your raid necessities? How much time are you spending to obtain that uber mount you want. And how much time are you spending running around the dollars trying to find another dime.
Time is money. And I've got my money on my time.

There are two sides to every deal. The buyer and the seller. Seems simple enough, doesn't it? You have the buyer who wants to obtain something for the least amount of resources (gold, time, effort). You have the seller that wants to get the most resources for the item/time they are offering.
I added gold, time and effort into the equation because in the negotiations of World of Warcraft all three become commodities. Your time and effort can easily replace gold simply from questing or running raids/instances. Effort is just how much you will go somewhere to obtain what you want from the other person.
I ran into this yesterday as I was in negotiations to purchase another guild. I needed one as a hiding place for a couple of my up and coming toons. It was a 4 slot guild that had 'some items' still in the bank. Not going into specifics the seller offered in general chat the guild for x amount of gold.
There are certain questions I always ask when purchasing the guild.
1) What is the name of the guild (don't really like inappropriate names for guilds I own)
2) Does anyone else still belong? (This is important because there have been some guilds that were sold
Without other members knowing until they logged out the next day.)
3) What level guild is it? (The higher the level of the guild the more lucrative that the benefits can be)
4) What items still exist in the guild bank (if they are good items you can easily recoup your investment)
So I offered what I considered a fair price opening up the negotiations. Generally, I half the price that they offer unless it is an extremely good opening salvo. They counter offered and then I accepted at about 75% of the original price they wanted. Win/Win right?
So I logged over to my toon that would take over the guild I contacted the seller. After a delay they informed me that someone had offered full price. Disappointed that the seller didn't keep his word as far as the deal for a measly couple of gold I just thanked him and went my merry way.
But here is the thing to keep in mind. I have said it many times that your word is your bond. It may seem very fleeting when dealing with online gaming. Players do not have the direct attachment to their toons that they have to their real lives. If I make a deal with someone, then I expect them to keep up with them. That expectation goes both ways. I have sold items that others came along quickly and offered me twice as much gold. I had to tell them the item was sold simply because my word was more valuable to me than ethereal gold.
I'm also someone who believes in Karma. If you do good things then good things will happen to you. If you do things that are questionable, then the questionable things will occur. This may seem like an old concept, but it is one that has ruled both my gaming and my real world life for years.
So the moral of this little story? There really isn't any. Not everything needs a moral, unless you want to add one of your own.

The basic sales techniques to make gold in Warcraft is crafted through either Jewelcrafting, Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Inscription or even the Tirion of professions, Engineering.
But many gold goblins forget that you can make a lot of gold, leveling and selling cooking supplies. Middle level buff food as well as max level raiding food was making gold by the bucketfuls for many players. It took time, supplies and some farming obtain enough points with all of the different Halfhill residents to get the best recipes.
We already have rumblings that there will be similar gold making strategies with cooking during the WOD expansion. There is already some ideas of just what raw ingredients will be needed and combined for in demand recipes.
So that's the good news. The bad news? Remember how you have never leveled fishing on any of your toons? From the alpha notes and others who have played the game, fishing is going to be heavily linked to your cooking. Again the same happened with the Mists of Pandaria expansion.. It was possible to level your cooking without needing a high level fisher, but it became that much more expensive.
The other not so fun news is that many of the already revealed recipes have components that are obtained via Herbalism. Most players who have inscription have an herbalist running around grasspicking, but the others gold goblins abandoned Herbalism to level a more profitable profession.
Warlords of Draenor are lining up to be a different headed beast when it comes to making gold. Less mass production and more selective production of items. If this trend continues, then a skilled gold goblin will need to learn how to mix and max professions in their toon army to keep profit margins high.
Still having 3 plus months of Pandaland exploration to go there is plenty of time to maximize your secondary professions on multiple toons. Fishing and cooking could easily become the hidden goldmine that gold goblins exploit to their advantage.
Good Luck and Good Profit Hunting.

When Blizzard announced during the Wrath of the Lich king expansion that there would be motorcycles to be crafted a collective squeal of glee passed along the frozen tundra.
Engineering, who had been the red headed step child of warcraft professions received a big boost in crafting proficiency. Players could order to have the Mechano-hog or Mekgineer's Chopper crafted for them. I still keep one of these on the AH for the occasional sale.
Well, if you recently just crawled from under your tax deadlines and read on MMO-champion you saw that Blizzard has sanctioned Paul Junior Designs to make two different types of choppers. One for the Alliance and one for the Horde. The contest has stated that whichever design wins, then that bike will be put into the game for the faction.
This could easily be a good thing for players who feel left out. Older mounts become forgotten if they are out of the limelight. The hogs that are currently available are still relatively expensive to craft and purchase. Ranging from 16k to 25k many players who look at seeing these the price tag and get some type of sticker shock.
So I have already started to collect extra materials to be able to craft more of these when the demand starts to pick up. If you have forgotten the materials you need to collect:
12 Titansteel
40 Handful of Colbalt bolts
2 Artic Fur
The rest of the items are BOP in the K3 port in Storm Peaks area. Don't forget that some of these BOP parts can be skinned from Flame Leviathan if you have an engineer at the party.
Titansteel no longer as a transmute timer attached so it can be crafted as long as you have the materials. To make the Titansteel you need
3 Titanium Bars
1 Eternal Fire
1 Eternal Earth
1 Eternal Shadow
The most difficult item to obtain from this are the Eternal Fires. If you have some extra Frozen Orbs you can purchase them from Frozo the Rennowned in Dalaran. Farming them is also possible with multiple areas having mobs that they can be farmed. Here is an article written that shows some good points as well as tips on farming these elements. Here
If for some reason you do not have the pattern yet, then it also becomes easy to obtain. Just have your engineer to profession level 450. Grind up your Horde Expedition reputation to exalted and then purchase the pattern. Basically, you will be finishing the quests that are in the Wrath of the Lich King area and then working through the dailies surrounding the entire continent. Remember the word easy is very questionable from time to time.
If you don't want to go through all of these static, you can find a friend who has the pattern and split the profits with them. They might have even forgotten they have the pattern and don't want to take the chance on crafting one unless someone else puts up the money.
The World of Warcraft version of hogs can be an exciting item to sell. Hopefully this new Blizzard contest will add some noise about older mounts that can be crafted. Adding more of that good good gold right into our greedy goblin hands.

When coming into the weekend many players will be cranking up their new pre-orders to Warlords of Draenor expansion and choosing their new boosted level 90 characters.
Most players will be starting to crank up their gear gathering on Timeless Isle and raids starting Friday. Looking at the Auction Houses you can already see people taking advantage of the markets and grabbing/flipping raw materials. The difficult part in doing this is that it is easy to replenish these materials (especially Exotic Leather and Ghost Iron Ore). This shouldn't keep players in the next couple of days to do some heavy farming to hit the wave that will occur this weekend.
With the knowledge that we won't be seeing the release of Warlords of Dreanor till sometime around November/December it gives players a lot of time to work on their professions. Thankfully, most players are not known for their patience when it comes to leveling professions. The new boosted 90's are going to be wanting gear to catch up with their raiding groups and get into the action.
All of the professions should get a boost this weekend from the new quest for gear and enhancements. Markets that have been slow and steady earning (Inscriptions, enchanting) will see that boost this weekend from players filling in their scribe books for the future. High investment weapons and gear might get some sales, but many players are looking at these new level 90's as secondary characters.
A couple of items to specifically flip are Sha Crystals and Magnificent Hides for their use in the high level armor enhancements. Needing 10 crystals and a handful of dust for the Dancing Steel weapon enchantment should drive up the prices for the Sha Crystals. Magnificent Hides should get the same boost from sales of the Pants armor enchantments provided by Leatherworkers.
Keep an eye on the markets as they go up in the next couple of days and position your players to jump on the wave. This weekend will be exciting for those that are brave and ready to climb the AH ladder to profits.
Geez, the sounded cheesy even to me. Go sell something :-)

Difficulties exist when a gold goblin is trying to cover all of the professions. It is difficult not to get lost in adding items to your existing mental queue to craft. Between Leatherworking and Blacksmithing there are 100's of items that can be crafted and placed to make gold.
The balance to find is what items will make the most profit. I have never been a fan of the blanket method of adding items. This includes the Malevolent PVP gear that is the on the market. If tailors have finished all of their cooldowns each day they should have all of the Malevolent PVP patterns available to craft. Leatherworkers and Blacksmiths have a few more days before all of the patterns are at their disposal.
Already on some servers the PVP belts and PVP boots have lost their profit margins. They have the lowest amount of materials needed to craft. These are also the lowest in demand due to the Honor/Conquest points being relatively easy to get. Pants and Chest pieces tend to sell a lot better than the lower profitable items.
This also means the lower tear from last season has gone down to liquidated pricing. Occasionally I will see players listing these for the same price that they were sold during last season. This is unfortunate being ignorant of the market as it is. Think of last years fashions and how you generally find them on the discount racks at stores. Yes there is a possibility that you might be able to get a quick sale at a large price. But the time and effort of relisting it over and over again might not help with paying the bills. Ultimately that item will become enchanting fodder as well.
The same happened with PVE gear. Even now it's just easier to Disenchant greens that drop during raids and instances. On some servers, especially if you do not have access to and enchanter, it's better to just vendor the greens for the gold that they bring. But keep in mind that if you are having to continually re-enchant gear due to upgrades (thanks askmrrobot.com) then you might want to still disenchant these items for your own personal enchants. Enchanters always appreciate you bringing your own materials to the party and just paying a tip for their efforts.
Any gear below 496 and weapons are basically dead. an hour in the Timeless Isle and you can have the majority of your pieces to make a decent set of gear. If you are finishing the daily quests continually you will have an extra stack of gear sitting in your bank for when your other toons are able to equip it. The only items that are still viable are the epic crafted weapons. Unless you run the older raids, epic weapons are at a premium. I listed all of my toons and where the weapons drop for them which guides me on where to spend my extra roll tokens.
The gold is still out there. But moving out of crafting and more into enhancement items (leg armor, enchanting items, glyphs) will guide your gold making into the future.

As the newness of Patch 5.4 starts to wear off I have decided to take a look at the future of Mommar Enterprises.
Currently my line up includes a Leather worker, a Blacksmith, A Tailor, An Enchanter, an Alchemist (Transmute specialist) Two Herbalist, Two Miners and Two Jewel Crafters. My scribe and a partridge in a pair tree round out the crew. This has been my lineup sans the addition of the new Jewelcrafter. Two of these are still leveling up so they haven't reached max level, the rest are already maxed with the vast majority of recipes available.
We already have a good idea that the new system to obtain recipes (through crafting discoveries as well as high end rep recipes) will be used in the new expansion. This means that many of the crafters will not just be able to sit at a hometown to collect all of the new expansion recipes. The only crafter that was able to do this was the scribe. The rest required to hit either revered or exalted with specific reputation vendors to obtain the high end patterns.
The debate in my mind is if I should look to double up any of my professions or to continue as is. With Leather working and Blacksmithing the introduction of daily transmutes of their own opened up a huge market in doubling up on the profession. The Lightning Steel Ingot and Balanced Trillium Ingot opened up Blacksmithing to be really dependent on getting these items as quick as possible. Leather working with the Hardened Magnificent Hide is in the same situation. The odds are something similar will be introduced in the later patches of the next expansion.
Engineering, having three of them with the company, will always be considered the red headed step child of money making. The original Ghost Iron Dragonling became a good seller up til the Timeless Isle patch. Pets also evened out the sales possibilities with Engineering but it still sits a long way from being king of the proverbial sales mountain.
Doubling up on professions does allow a player to get two times the access to many of the patterns. This especially applies to the daily transmutes and discovery recipes. The biggest addage of making gold is to be the first to get something onto the market. This allows you to set the price and make a very heft quick profit while others have to wait til the manufacture item becomes available for themselves.
So in the next few weeks I will be deciding if I need to double up on professions or not. Once more information with the next expansion becomes available after Blizzcon I will be able to make a much more informed decision.
What changes do you see yourself making with the next expansion? What professions do you see yourself needing to double up on?
Good Luck and Good Hunting

Mommar here.
The facts are Blacksmiths, Engineers, Leatherworkers and Scribes received all of the Christmas presents with patch 5.4. In the same lot Alchemist got the short end of an already questionable stick.
But if you have looked at the pricing for Primal Diamonds as well as gem cuts there is a very nice market developing. Those long forgotten Golden Lotus plants are still relatively cheap on the AH. with much of the ore being used for transmutes of Trillium and bars to feed into the Blacksmith/Engineer daily needs raw gems have become much more expensive. And with a short guarantee of getting a blue raw gem with your prospecting it becomes much more financially sound to transmute your own.
If you are like me you have a cubic guild bank ton of the basic gems sitting in one of your storage bays. Having grown into this game with an aversion of throwing anything away that might be useful (this includes a lot of foodstuffs and old tokens that I hope someday will be back in demand), this will be a nice way to start to empty out that massive collection of gems.
Rings and Neckpiece sales have dried up because of the loot pinata that is Timeless Isle. A reasonable geared toon can start to chew up turf in Timeless Isle and get the majority of alts geared up quickly. Think of it similar to getting a tattoo. Where you may pay 100 dollars for a tattoo, you are paying a lot of money for the 'after care' products that the shop will sell. Gems, enchants and other items are your aftercare products for the Timeless Isle gear.
Also don't poo-poo the Primal Diamond Transmutes. For the transmutes to be going in excess of 700g just for the diamond itself and a lot more gold for the higher cuts you have a nice profit margin that had been in a lull for a bit.
Don't have an alchemist on the payroll? Then that's where you can take your fingers and voice to the guild and do some walking. Everyone wants to earn a few gold pieces, and this is a prime opportunity to save yourself a lot of gold simply by a little bit of discussion with other players.
As patch 5.4 matures you will see a lot less demand for items because the excitement will wane and the grind of dailies will return. Players will start to drift away waiting for the new expansion. Keep an eye on your profit margins and don't get stuck with items that can't or won't sell.
Now onto Brewfest. I need a Root Beer

So one of the powers that be (Tom Chilton) in an interview on a german fan site (yes, we are multicultural here) that the 5.4 patch has been pushed back to September 10th (11th for the gang in Europe).
This gives everyone about 2 1/2 weeks to get moving on finishing their goals leading up to the new patch. This new date isn't etched in stone but the background downloader kicked in a couple of days ago so the waiting was upgraded to 'sooner if not later'.
With all the changes that are going to occur with the new patch, finishing up your honey-do list becomes that much more important. Even my list has a large amount to work on:
- Max out Valor/Justice Points on Three toons
- Max out Honor/Conquest points on one toon
- Finish Dailies in Barrens for Radical Mojo for armor upgrades
- Look for deals for gahzrooki
- Buy supply of Exotic Leathers and Ghost Iron Ore/Bars to cover daily crafting burn
- Finish off leveling two crafters to 90 (yes I have been slacking)
- Prepare to craft new glyphs (need more inks)
- Gear up two farmers to farm new areas with 5.4
- Keep addons updated (more on this later in the week)
- Work with TradeSkillMaster 2.1 (Definitely more on this later in the week)
All of this along with listing auctions and flipping for profit. It will be a busy two weeks waiting for the patch to download. What is on your agenda to get finished?

It's the day after patch 5.3, and the world did not come to an end. Cats and dogs are not laying together and the Mayans were still wrong.
One of the things I did before patch 5.3 is to change my lineup a little bit. I kept my main characters but shuffled around some of the alternates and their professions.
Mommar:
(The main man)
He will always be my main, being a Leatherworker and Blacksmith since I started it's been a good combination of profession upgrades and the ability to gain patterns through dungeons and raids.
Move:
This is my farming toon, having been my Skinner and Miner since I started her. She also is my ranged player when I am bored with getting up in mobs faces and hitting them very hard.
Alt 3: (you really think I was going to tell you who your competition was?)
This is my shaman Jewelcrafter and Engineer. I inherited her from another player and arranged her professions to where I wanted them to be. She also will do dungeons and the occasional raids to obtain patterns.
Alt 4:
This is my Druid. Having flying ability has made her my Alchemist and Herbalist. There was the thoughts of converting her to a different profession but I kept both of them for the time being.
Alt 5:
This is my Paladin. She's one of my first pet projects because I became bored during the Cataclysm and wanted a different challenge. Being my Scribe and Herbalist has made her play in the background since both inscription and Herbalism are most difficult professions to make profits in.
Alt 6:
My Warlock is my Enchanter and Tailor. She has been a very steady moneymaker with bags and enchants though I have been lax in getting her leveled. Still one of my top moneymakers since Burning Crusade. \
(I shake her a lot of extra coins on the mailbox)
Alt 7:
This is one of my two bank toons. I keep her in Thunder Bluff for most of my flipping opportunities and the random big ticket items that I want to rotate for sale.
Alt 8:
My other bank toon sitting in Tanaris. I use her for flipping items between Horde, Alliance and vice versa. I've also used her for food storage ever since Burning Crusade (anyone want some worg meat?)
Alt 9:
My Death Knight is in semi retirement. I use him as my pet seller and the occasional odds and ends. He is also my other Engineer. One of my engineer has the goblin profession line and this one has the gnome profession line. It is less of a problem than it was during the earlier expansions.
Alt 10.
My goblin shaman is my first that received the makeover. Originally I took my own advice and gave her mining and Herbalism. This has been profitable for both money and experience. Recently I changed her mining profession to my second alchemist and started leveling her for the future transmutes.
Alt 11:
My Rogue rounds out my lineup. He originally was going to be a Jewelcrafter and Engineer but there is an internal debate with the lineup on whether I will ultimately need a third Alchamist. Engineering is enjoyable but having three in the lineup is not always cost effective. There are now very few Engineer only items available other than helms.
When I set my lineup I wanted a combination of enjoyable game play and money making opportunity. My Druids became very strong farmers due to the flight capabilities and not needing to drop out of flight form to pick up herbs.
My hunter is my skinner because while I'm mowing down one mob I can set my pet to tag three or four more for killing and processing.
Keeping an eye on your lineup and adjusting based on the economy and available gameplay is to be expected. The change should always be welcome with the right planning and budgeting.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

Since this journal started many people have viewed different strategies on how to make large amounts of gold. The reality of it is that making gold is not rocket science. It's keeping a balance between a strict regiment of ventures. Whether you are taking chances on a large ticket item, or clicking your way through small transactions over a long period of time.
None of these strategies are rocket science. They may seem that way from time to time, when writers through numbers at you. Buy this, sell that, spin around three times in Stormwind and hope that someone wants to pay you gold.
But each profession has a 'go to' item that continually sells. Leatherworkers have armor patches, Blacksmiths have belt buckles, tailors have bags that continually put gold in your gold goblin pockets. Sometimes these profits seem small, a miniscule portion of a larger wanted a fortune. But this is the stabilizing function of your long term goals. Any type of financial structure, whether it's stocks, bonds, gold market or even collecting pennies will be much more successful if you have a base to build the portfolio upon.
World of Warcraft is a game, it should be treated as a game with winners and losers. Making gold in this environment is just another way of keeping score. In any game you will have your star players, and you will have your durable rugged players that you know will be there every day you take the field. Your 'go to' sale items are those rugged players that might not bring the big money into your coffers, when the score is counted can equal just as many points as the star players.
My current list of my 'go to' sales are.
Tailoring - Netherweave Bag
Engineering - Ghost Iron Dragonling
Blacksmithing - Living Steel Belt Buckle
Inscription - Tiger Claw Inscription
Enchanting - Enchant Weapon - Windsong
Leatherworking - Stormscale Drape
Alchemy - Potion of Luck
One thing with all of these items you should notice. None of them require the Spirits of Harmony to craft. We have talked before about the value of these Spirits of Harmony and saving them for high profit items. You also might have your favorite items that would fit into this baseline profit making idea. Each server is different but the theory still holds it's truth.
Keep your baseline sales items strong as you delve into riskier ventures. As your profits rise you will be much happier and when the high end items start to cool, you will still be plugging along to your gold goblin goals.
Good luck and Good Hunting

We have talked often about having a pattern when you log on. The different styles of setting up your chore list depends many times on the time that you have.
With Patch 5.2 all of the major professions received a cool down of some type. With Blacksmithing and Leatherworking this allowed the learning of new patterns. These should have become a part of every gold goblins daily chores.
Leatherworking - Magnificance of Leather or Scales (20 Exotic Leather or 20 Prismatic Scales)
Blacksmithing - Lightning Steel Ingot (10 Ghost Iron Bar)
Inscription - Scroll of Wisdom (1 Light Parchment + 3 Ink Of Dreams)
Alchemy - Living Steel (6 Trillium Bars)
Enchanting - Sha Crystal (5 Ethereal Shard or 25 Mysterious Essence or 125 Spirit Dust)
Tailoring - Imperial Silk (8 Bolts of Windwool Cloth)
Some of these have the ability to have more than 1 created each day with use of Spirits of Harmony but I rarely suggest using this method. There is more advantageous and money making profit from using the Spirits of Harmony for crafting items. If Blizzard decides in a future patch to remove the Spirits of Harmony BOP status then this will become a much more desired method.
Some are probably going 'duh Mommar, I already knew all this'. My answer would be to remember that when that large task of things to do seems impossible, going back to basics and getting your base materials can open up what should be done next. Whether you have 2 of the 6 major professions or all 6 in your alt army, finishing up your basic tasks will put you in a better position for gold making possibilities.

The Black Markey Auction House that sits in the Valley of the Four Winds area has been forgotten for many servers. There is the occasional brave soul that goes there to pick up their invitation to the Brawler's guild, or on the off chance that a piece of epic gear sits there for a low bid. But for the most part many of the items become overpriced rather quickly.
But occasionally there are a few things that pop up for bidding that should intrigue gold goblins. Pets will appear for bidding that are more difficult to obtain than just walking up and plunking down some cash. Pets from the Argent Crusade or long lost areas that very rarely players will go to gather.
Sometimes even epic patterns will appear for purchase. Ones that can gain profit for the crafty gold goblin that can purchase the materials for a song. The key is to know your market on your server and realize just what would sell and what wouldn't sell. What materials are plentiful on your server and which materials are players struggling to obtain. What is the tipping price for sales for a level 490 items vs a 500+ ilvl item obtained in the highest raids. Just how much are players willing to spend on vanity items or the 'cool factor' to have a nice helm.
Your cost price and just how much profit you can squeeze out of a BMAH flip should dictate whether it is a good investment, or to walk away and live to bid another day.

Every new patch brings something new for the enjoyment of the players. It also can bring a lot of hand wringing and irritation. This is par for the course when new content and new areas are open.
The new Jewelcrafting technique for obtaining patterns is interesting. I took my shaman Jewelcrafter into a couple of instances and ended up picking up the pattern. My first attempt at crafting the Serpent's Heart gave me a wonderful Wild Jade (just one step from a whiff in t-ball). Will have to see what else occurs in the next couple of days. The pattern itself drops around Pandaria so pick your favorite group of mobs and kill til it drops.
My Leatherworker had the two new LWer cooldown pattern drop a lot slower than I expected. Two days of working on the Isle of Thunder dailies (and there are a lot of dailies there). The biggest problem with the Isle of Thunder are the repops of mobs. More than once I was killing one mob when three others joined in to beat your favorite Azeroth superhero. Being relatively well geared I was able to handle them but I imagined someone who was just hitting 90 and dropping into the Isle would get massacred rather quickly.
Also a big problem with the Isle is the shear amount of people that are on the Isle currently. Everyone at level 90 and decently geared were killing mobs, running around and aggroing mobs only to see them drop my fights. The new tag mechanic for bigger bosses and rares works pretty well, though when you're just about to kill a mob and four people join again can be disheartening. Everyone is on separate loot tables but there is still that quick hitch of 'ugh, I just lost this gear I wanted:".
There is more to find out about owning your own farm. But that's for tomorrow. I was definitely surprised by the overall feel of the new patch. It's exciting but until everything is unlocked the shear magnitude of the new war movement. It will be interesting to see what unlocks after we've all done our duty for the war.
P.S. Yes I know, you can read it all on the PTR's and notes, but I do like a little mystery in my game.
Good Luck and Good Hunting
