Are You Experienced???

Mommar here.

There is nothing from the Gold Goblin tool box that beats experience.  From the upside of getting a big score for a sale, to the downside of an investment gone horribly wrong.

To get that experience takes a combination of trial and error.   The reality is that as a starting Gold Goblin you will make mistakes.  You will at some point sell an item for less than you put in to craft it.   You will get a rare drop that will sell for much less than someone would have bought it.

How do I know this?   Simply from experience.   In my own personal Gold Goblin career I have made every mistake in the book as well.  A valuable lesson was learned with each mistake.   Learning from your mistakes is a major key in becoming a stronger and wiser Gold Goblin.

As you go start through your weekend of crafting, farming, flipping and selling.  Be prepared to learn from both your successes and your failures.   And each time you pounce on someone Else's mistake,  remember that hopefully that is an error that you won't ever repeat.

There are 5 mistakes that Gold Goblins make:

1.  Underselling a valuable item

2.  Crafting at a loss

3.  Mismanagement of inventory

4.  Loss of a sale due to motivation

5.  Forgetting to read every day JMTC (okay, had to throw in a plug there)

All of these are self explanatory.   They all involve staying on top of your game and sharpening your skills.   Take chances,  learn from your mistakes and always have fun.  It is a game you know.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

MOP Prep: Pokewow Part 1

Mommar here

One of the most controversial subjects and new 'game features' in Mists of Pandaria are the pet battles.  Players have called it 'Pokewow',  others are excited with a completely new idea to enjoy between raiding and leveling.

Here at JMTC central were in the middle.   Where the pet battles will not be mythos changing,  and I have my doubt that there will be any epic battles of Leaping Hatchling vs Blue Clockwork Rocket Bot,  I can see where there will be enjoyment for many with this new concept.

The important thing for gold goblins will be to know what you can sell on the open market and what you cannot sell.   Big plans were dashed by the wayside when Blizzard announced that wild pets would not be able to be caged and traded/sold.   This could easily be a temporary ban on selling them til players have caught up with the traveling experience that Blizzard is interested in players obtaining.   Perhaps in a later patch these wild catches will be able to be traded, trained and sold.

Now is the time to be prepared.  Knowing what pets can be crafted for sell is vitally important to your gold making profits.

Engineering

Pet Bombling (obtained from Gnomeregan drop)
Lil Smoky (obtained from Gnomeregan)
Lifelike Mechanical Toad (very rare recipe)
Mechanical Squirrel Box
Tranquil Mechanical Yeti
Personal World Destroyer
De-Weaponized Mechanical Companion

Enchanting:

Enchanted Lantern

None of these pets require exotic materials.   Gold bars for the gold power cores in the Lifelike Mechanical Toad to Volatile Airs for the manufacturing of Electrified Ether to craft Personal World Destroyer.   Having these materials saved in your banks now will raise your profits at the end of the Mists of Pandaria Rush.

A few specific materials you should be looking to invest in if you are an enchanter are Maelstrom Crystals.  These are dropping quickly as more and more epics are Disenchanted.  They are vital for the creation of the Enchanted Lantern pet creation which already goes for a hefty markup with cross faction sales.   Buying Maelstrom Crystals now will prevent the wave of demand later from overtaking you.

All of these pets are going to be necessary if you want to have a strong Engineering/Enchanting pet business. This in no way means that you these are must have professions to be able to make gold with pets.   I will go into more detail tomorrow on exactly what strategy,  pricing and which pets to look to sell first.

Also speaking of pets,  Blizzard has cut their Pandaren Monk Pet to $5.00 US.  Unfortunately this pet isn't trade-able (yet) but it's still an interesting pet you can use to battle.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Do You Know Where Your Gold Is?

Mommar here.

Here at club JMTC one of our favorite movies is 'Remember The Titans'.   If you have not seen it,  then stop reading here,  go to your local Redbox or Netflix account and watch it.

Okay,  now that you have watched the movie,  there is a scene that Coach Boone is asked about why he has so few plays.  He responds by saying

I run 6 plays, split veer. It's like Novocaine.  Just give it time, always works"

The basic premise of a gold goblin is that there is one or two professions that are their money makers.  Whether it's their alchemy or Jewelcrafting.  Even flipping items from the Auction house becomes a profession for a gold goblin.   These professions and abilities become the core and foundation to a players fortune.

When players look for the bigger, better deal and ignore or neglect their core professions,  then they start to spend more money than they have.  Going into negative gains in search for the bigger deal.  Where keeping and expanding slowly from the foundation money making abilities brings more gold in the long run.

There will always be large bursts of opportunities to gain gold quickly.  The collection now of materials to resell at the beginning of MOP is going to be one of the most popular.  But don't cut out your core professions and neglect them.   Now is a good time to sharpen up your skills in pricing and manufacturing.  Look for opportunities to sell items that you hadn't sold for a bit.  Eliminate product lines that are no longer selling.   This will give you a better blueprint for the future of your gold goblin abilities.

The secret of my success

In the past few weeks there have been more and more messages arriving at the JMTC office Midwest campus.

Some end up being thanks for tips,  some are comments about my style (or lack of).  And even the occasional spam from a African princess looking for love in all the wrong places.

But one of the most popular ones are looking for tips on how to make more gold.  Many of them lately being of the "I'm just restarting to play wow again,  and I need to make 5-10k gold every day.

I thoroughly enjoy helping people making warcraft gold.   And having 2.3 million in the bank seems to say that I am semi decent at it.    With the different methods,   economic builds,   elementium shuffles and other strategies that we talk about all the time here.  There is one ideal that should be put into any gold sellers mind as being their mantra:

I supply,   they demand.

Everything gold related expands on this ideal.   You have consumers that want products,  you have methods to make these products and to supply them.    The rest is a matter of learning the mathematics behind the sales.   What can I sell to someone,  and what will they pay for it.   This seems like a simple idea,  but you build your millions based on this one statement.   Everything else is extra curricular on what you do with your money.

The other answer  that seemed to be a popular answer from others have been you need to have TSM or another favorite addon to make gold in the game.   It was even presented at one point that you needed to have the Android/Iphone app and two accounts to make gold in warcraft.  Where these ideas do open a lot more opportunities.  They really are in no way required to make lots of gold in the game.  It takes time,  and knowledge and even a form of discipline.   The addons make things a lot easier.  But just like science.  If you do not have a baseline knowledge of how the warcraft economics work,  you are limiting your gold making opportunities

Gold making should always be fun in the game.  It can easily become a game into itself. one that you know the score by hearing the ringing of the coin purse as you answer your mail.  IT's a basic skill that will open up areas that you never believed possible.    Gearing alts quickly,  buying that stronger piece,  buying your way into mount runs.   The only limits are what your mind can develop.

There is no truly easy button to press to make gold.   Everyone has an opinion on how it's done,  and sometimes they are right,   sometimes they are wrong.   The decision has to be your own on whether you want to try something with the chance of failing.  Or just look at that 85k mount you have always wanted and not be able to afford it.

Good Buying and selling

1000 Posts and 3000000 Unique Visits

Written By Markco, Previous Writer for JMTC

One Thousand Posts and Three Million Unique Views

I did the math on that as well and it's an average of 3,000 unique visits per post at Just My Two Copper. WOW! Not to mention over 5,000,000 page views and that's from when I actually started recording statistics here. This calls for a recollection, a celebration, and last but not least, a stern warning for the gold making community.

Recollection

When I first started blogging there was one other blog that discussed making gold in game, and it wasn't even the main focus. Some forums and gold guides existed, but they focused mostly on other aspects of the game and no one really had ever gone into the science behind making gold in wow.

Then I showed up and things slowly began to change.

A hundred concepts just like Buy Low Sell Normal, Saronite Saturdays and 22 Steps to Using Auctioneer Correctly redefined what people thought about gold making in world of warcraft. Suddenly there was someone analyzing all aspects of making gold, from cross server to pet sellers to every profession in the game utilized in conjunction for one single goal: dominating making gold on any server. This is the JMTC legacy and it's something that will probably never die, as is evident by the fact that I no longer play and yet this site survives as a resource center and gold making think tank.

What made JMTC a thriving success was the way I approached blogging. I put myself out there on every single media I could find, from forums to podcasts, and I tried my best to spread the information I was deriving from in game mechanics and gold strategies. Part of this process involved creating catalysts for making gold that previously never existed before. These new platforms included the first ever solely focused on making gold forum, two podcasts, an IRC channel, youtube channel, facebook, twitter, a gold guide, coaching program and of course, JMTC itself. In the process of creating these platforms, I developed a relationship with my readers that involved brain dumping everything I knew slowly but surely about making gold and in the process improving their gaming experience significantly. As I write for The Traffic Blogger today, my new goal is to take this mentality but apply it to making real life money instead of in game gold. Believe it or not, the strategy is virtually identical for both.

Also, the Castaclysm Podcast is coming back, this time as a generic gaming medium. We've been testing Starcraft 2 live streams and recording them to youtube. Here's an example of one that Jhaman recently uploaded for Starcraft 2 2v2 play. I'm looking forward to getting back into gaming with Jhaman and Thunderer once again.

Celebration

To celebrate 1,000 posts I am temporarily dropping the price of the gold guide down to $23 for a single day. Never has the guide been so cheap and never again will it drop below $37. This is your shot at getting it for an absolute steal. The 10% discount will not work for this day, so that's why you won't see the price go below $23 when you enter it. Even though I no longer play wow, the strategies being added to the guide by experts I am working with and the walkthroughs being inherited from what I wrote already are well worth the asking price. Just the other day I entered the JMTC weekly meeting and was naming core strategies for making gold that were helpful to many of the participants. What that should show you is that having a bible-like product such as 20kleveling really does give you a leg up in terms of understanding why things make you lots of gold in world of warcraft.

Celebrating past successes would take a few thousand words, so I'll keep this short. The number of posts, subscribers and unique hits mean nothing in terms of a blog's success. The real measure of success and the real story behind Just My Two Copper is the community that it has inspired. Your forums, blogs, podcasts, emails and everything else you have created around the site here are worth more than... excuse the pun... gold.

The Warning

Now for the fun part of this post. The stern warning that is meant to be a swift kick in your collective rear end. No I don't mean the audience here but rather a small portion of it. The rest of this post is meant for the fifty or so bloggers and content creators who have appeared in the last three years while JMTC has been around.

Just My Two Copper is at the top because you care more about your page views and who's the "best" than you do about the content you're creating. Don't lie to yourself, you know that you're checking your page views at least four times a day as well as your google rankings. I'd like to remind you that the few times where JMTC faltered were because I fell into the trap of caring more about being the best than actually creating the content that made me the best. The day you stop looking at your google analytics and your "expert seo" is the day you will actually start succeeding with flying colors. That's what my latest project, The Why People Course, is really all about. It's a wake up call for bloggers blinded by limited amounts of success and the numbers associated with their blogs.

Some of you are going to think I'm just being Markco again, ranting to the populace and ramming my way of thinking down your throats. Guess what, sometimes it's the only way to wake you up. The drama and pathetic fighting between bloggers that has been going on for years isn't going to end, but if you're part of it then it's going to drag you down and hold you back. Even though I was never afraid to take a swing at those who attacked my person and blog, I wish I could take every single one of those retaliations back. I wish that I could be the guy who rose above it all and never responded to ignorant accusations and false twisting of my intentions. Why? Because you would rather I focused on making gold, not defending myself against those whose only aim is some extra traffic and an unprofessional, cheap laugh.

Bloggers, you need to get back to the basics and start talking about what makes wow gold making work in the first place. Challenge misconceptions and address the concerns of newer gold makers. Don't just focus on the news. Write something thorough that goes above and beyond your typical post (regardless of how thorough you're writing now). Don't try to write every day unless you can actually produce something worth reading that often. If you can't well that's perfectly OK, so try to remember that.

If you guys and girls don't take my advice then the wow community of gold bloggers that has formed around JMTC is going to devolve into petty arguments and pathetic squabbles about NOTHING. This kind of negativity isn't healthy for the wow gold blogging community as a whole. Why don't you try building each other up instead of tearing each other down? Isn't that how JMTC has been run this whole time? It's a place where any blogger can come and have their voice be heard, regardless of how many posts they have written in the past.

That's it for the negatives. Thank you Mageshadow for the past few months as you have done a tremendous job writing for Just My Two Copper and I look forward to seeing you get better and better at what you do on a daily basis. Thank you to the readers here and the content creators who have decided to embrace the challenge of blogging because they were inspired by JMTC.

Best wishes and congratulations to the community here, you're all winners in my eyes.

Markco

PS: Vacation was a blast, I was on a cruise ship for a five day sail to Bermuda and have never experienced anything like it before. Even with poor weather and some really bad "turbulence," it was still totally worth it.

JMTC Guide: How To Track Your Gold

I've gotten countless numbers of e-mails where people are simply asking if there is a way to track your gold in take and output. They want to know what they're spending on and what exactly X item is yielding them. So I've decided to make this post and list a couple of helpful addons that will help you keep track of your gold and stay organized. Below are the top addons that track your gold, they're in no order.

Analyst Addon
This is a great addon to have/get if you're trying to get organized when you're making gold. It does several things at once and you can even set it to track per day, week or month. Below is a small list of what this addon does/tracks:

  • How much gold did I earn and how?
  • How much gold did I spend and on what?
  • How am I doing in the auction house?
  • What have I looted from mobs?
  • What items did I consume?
  • What items did I produce?
  • How many currencies (marks, badges, emblems) have I collected?
  • What have I deposited or withdrawn from the guild bank?
  • What is my gathering and crafting activity?
It basically tracks and tells you exactly where you're spending gold. Missing 150g? Did you forget about those trainer costs? or how about that glyph you just bought at the Auction House? This addon will track everything for you so you know exactly how much gold you've earned today/weekly/monthly.

MySales Addon
This is the addon I used to track my gold. It doesn't do everything analyst does but it allows me to see who bought X item at what time and at what price. It also allows me to track my sales for a given period of time ( day/week/month ). The way it spits out data is very nice and organized, though there is one way I wish this addon had: custom sorting. Below is a small features list:
  • Display your sale in a table display.
  • Show what your top sellers are and your top buyers.
  • Buyer names coloured if they're in your guild or friends list.
  • Filter entries by time.
I use this addon because it simply works for me. It doesn't track your gold output, so if you're looking to track that I'd go with Analyst instead. Sinshroud from the Consortium Forums made an excellent guide on this addon, you can even put out the info out into excel if you want, it's all included there.

Auditor Addon
This is the last addon that I know of that tracks your gold. I've never personally used it but from what I've heard it's great. It tracks almost everything you can think of and then some. It tracks your gold in four different "times" Per Session/Day/Week/All Time. Below is a list of what it exactly tracks:
  • Loot money - Whether you are solo, in a party or in a raid.
  • Vendor money - Stuff you buy from or sell to vendors.
  • Quest money - Money you gain from quests, and money you spend on quest
  • Trade money - Doing enchants or transmutes? Yep, it catches money exchanged in trade.
  • Mail money - Sending money to/from your alts or friends?
  • AH money - At last, both outgoing AND incoming Auction House money is tracked.
  • Training money - How much did you spend on training and respecs?
  • Flight money - Flight Expenses
  • Repairs money - See how much money you really spent on repairing your kit after those instances.
  • Unknown money - Money gained/lost, but for whatever reason, Auditor can't work out where it's from.
  • Reconciliation money - That's money for when you just installed Auditor, and it has to account for the cash you have right now, or for when you crashed, or were logged on at a friend's house. It's all good.
  • Guild Bank money - Money you deposit or withdraw from your Guild Bank. Exciting, I know.
  • LFG reward money
  • Guild contributions money
  • Reforging money
As you can see this addon tracks everything and then some. If you're really hardcore and want to know exactly where your gold is going I would either suggest this or Analyst. If you're looking to simply track your sales go with My Sales.

That's all folks, hopefully you'll download one of the three mentioned addons and get yourself organized instead of wondering that 100g went. To the AH Goblins: Tracking your gold is needed regardless if you don't have a way to track your gold I suggest you download one of these three addons so you can see how much you're spending/earning. It's always fun to look at the monthly log to see what you've made X gold in a month.

Got an addon that tracks gold and think it's worth a mention? Leave a comment below and I'll add it to the list!

JMTC Shattered: Cataclysm Content Manager

Hello Just My Two Copper! I, Mageshadow, will be your new content manager, and all I can say is that I'm extremely excited to work with such a wonderful audience.

As some of you know, I have been writing at The Gnomish Coin for the past couple months, and I’ve enjoyed every second of it, from the comments, the atmosphere, to even the small community of readers that I have. I enjoy blogging, it’s become more than a hobby now, it’s become something that I love. It gives me a way to help others, which is also something that I love to do. I’m a person that loves giving, anything that I have I’d be willing to give to those in need, sharing my thoughts and ideas with other people is a great way for me to give.

Me being the new Content Manager doesn't mean Markco is going completely away, he'll still be here posting and working, I will simply be helping out with content management.

Background

I will provide a little background about myself. I’m an 18 year old, male that just completely loves gaming. I’ve been playing games since I’ve been six, It all started with the Super Nintendo, Contra and Super Mario World. man those were the days, you'd invite everyone over to your house to come play and it was extremely fun. I slowly moved on from there, the PlayStation one, the Xbox, PlayStation 2, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Nintendo DS, Etc. I’ve played almost all consoles now, except the Wii. I don't really enjoy offline games, or single player games, I'm more of a online guy, I love how every game can be extremely different than the last, and how you meet different people every single game.
