What is your most devious gold making strategy?
WoWMogul
Size. Yes, you heard me right – patience and size. Let me explain: Patience - Building your crafting capacity - toon by toon, profession by profession. Patiently levelling up and getting things ready. Slowly and surely; Patience - Calmly building your Auctioneer data via daily scans so when you strike it will be from a position of knowledge; Patience - Hauling your arse around Azeroth dealing with time wasters as you create your guildbank(s), yes, you will definitely need more than one;
Bangkok Bill's World of Goldcraft
My most devious tactic is generating extra buzz for my sales with my second account. Because I have two computers and two accounts I am able to play two toons at once. I use this to my advantage by having my second toon talk about the item in trade. This works exceedingly well for Mysterious Fortune Cards but I've also been using it lately for other high value items.
The Gold Queen
The title of Mageshadow’s JMTC Blog Carnival calls for bloggers to reveal their most devious gold making strategy. I rub my hands with glee because it would be a perfect time for me to preach my own “be nice!” strategy in contrast. Devious adj not straightforward, shifty or crooked, subtle, cunning, crafty, artful, sly, not sincere or candid, deceitful, underhand, ”a devious scheme to acquire wealth”.
Neckar Unrivaled
The first thing that came to mind when I read this months blogging carnival over on JMTC, which is; “What is your most devious gold making strategy?”. The first thought that came into my head, after I read all the comments was one simple thing. How? That’s where it came down to for me when I wrote this post out. Yes your gonna read about some of my most devious markets, but I wanted to cover a more in-depth idea of how would you be able to target something that is devious vs something that is not. Shall we start
Bids And Buyouts
This is actually a hard post as I am not a very devious person, but this I guess falls into a somewhat devious plan.It started a few months ago when I noticed another gold making banker(who this blog is named after) on my server and started chatting with him a bit, we threw some ideas around and formed an in game friendship. We both wanted to explore new markets and mainly wanted to get into Arbitrage. I wont go into much detail here because there is a ton of info already blogged about for cross faction trading. Faid has put up excellent post about this topic.
Brits Gold Tips
One of my most devious gold making strategies isn't one that is devious per say but it is just taking advantage of what people will do. I will usually post various enchanting mats of the current raiding tier then I will link my enchanting in trade chat. This will usually get people to purchase my mats in order to get the enchant they want made and after I make it for them they will usually tip also. This gets your mats sold and a tip as well for 5 minutes of work. You can of course use this for any profession.
Just My Two Copper
Personally I love my own and special favorite gold making strategy of turning in Sulfuron Ingots for the plans for the Sulfuron Hammer. It's a very devious strategy as I buy the ingots for 500-800g per turn them in and sell the plans for triple and sometimes quadruple of what I paid. I've sold a number of them in the past months totaling for up to 46,000g in profits. The only downside to this method is that you can only turn in the ingot once per character and they have to be 55+ in order to enter BRD.
That's all for this month folks! An excellent set of submissions from the blogosphere, be sure to drop by and leave a comment or two on their blogs! Also be sure to check out the past JMTC Blogging Carnivals for even more great stuff to read!
Note: Bloggers don't forget about the upcoming carnival! The topic is What's your favorite old world method of making gold. Please get your submissions in early! I sent out e-mails 3 weeks ago - if you wish to participate but did/are not receiving the Blogging Carnival newsletters please e-mail me at Artsytorres AT gmail DOT com and I'll send you the info.

One Thousand Posts and Three Million Unique Views
I did the math on that as well and it's an average of 3,000 unique visits per post at Just My Two Copper. WOW! Not to mention over 5,000,000 page views and that's from when I actually started recording statistics here. This calls for a recollection, a celebration, and last but not least, a stern warning for the gold making community.
Recollection
When I first started blogging there was one other blog that discussed making gold in game, and it wasn't even the main focus. Some forums and gold guides existed, but they focused mostly on other aspects of the game and no one really had ever gone into the science behind making gold in wow.
Then I showed up and things slowly began to change.
A hundred concepts just like Buy Low Sell Normal, Saronite Saturdays and 22 Steps to Using Auctioneer Correctly redefined what people thought about gold making in world of warcraft. Suddenly there was someone analyzing all aspects of making gold, from cross server to pet sellers to every profession in the game utilized in conjunction for one single goal: dominating making gold on any server. This is the JMTC legacy and it's something that will probably never die, as is evident by the fact that I no longer play and yet this site survives as a resource center and gold making think tank.
What made JMTC a thriving success was the way I approached blogging. I put myself out there on every single media I could find, from forums to podcasts, and I tried my best to spread the information I was deriving from in game mechanics and gold strategies. Part of this process involved creating catalysts for making gold that previously never existed before. These new platforms included the first ever solely focused on making gold forum, two podcasts, an IRC channel, youtube channel, facebook, twitter, a gold guide, coaching program and of course, JMTC itself. In the process of creating these platforms, I developed a relationship with my readers that involved brain dumping everything I knew slowly but surely about making gold and in the process improving their gaming experience significantly. As I write for The Traffic Blogger today, my new goal is to take this mentality but apply it to making real life money instead of in game gold. Believe it or not, the strategy is virtually identical for both.
Also, the Castaclysm Podcast is coming back, this time as a generic gaming medium. We've been testing Starcraft 2 live streams and recording them to youtube. Here's an example of one that Jhaman recently uploaded for Starcraft 2 2v2 play. I'm looking forward to getting back into gaming with Jhaman and Thunderer once again.
Celebration
To celebrate 1,000 posts I am temporarily dropping the price of the gold guide down to $23 for a single day. Never has the guide been so cheap and never again will it drop below $37. This is your shot at getting it for an absolute steal. The 10% discount will not work for this day, so that's why you won't see the price go below $23 when you enter it. Even though I no longer play wow, the strategies being added to the guide by experts I am working with and the walkthroughs being inherited from what I wrote already are well worth the asking price. Just the other day I entered the JMTC weekly meeting and was naming core strategies for making gold that were helpful to many of the participants. What that should show you is that having a bible-like product such as 20kleveling really does give you a leg up in terms of understanding why things make you lots of gold in world of warcraft.
Celebrating past successes would take a few thousand words, so I'll keep this short. The number of posts, subscribers and unique hits mean nothing in terms of a blog's success. The real measure of success and the real story behind Just My Two Copper is the community that it has inspired. Your forums, blogs, podcasts, emails and everything else you have created around the site here are worth more than... excuse the pun... gold.
The Warning
Now for the fun part of this post. The stern warning that is meant to be a swift kick in your collective rear end. No I don't mean the audience here but rather a small portion of it. The rest of this post is meant for the fifty or so bloggers and content creators who have appeared in the last three years while JMTC has been around.
Just My Two Copper is at the top because you care more about your page views and who's the "best" than you do about the content you're creating. Don't lie to yourself, you know that you're checking your page views at least four times a day as well as your google rankings. I'd like to remind you that the few times where JMTC faltered were because I fell into the trap of caring more about being the best than actually creating the content that made me the best. The day you stop looking at your google analytics and your "expert seo" is the day you will actually start succeeding with flying colors. That's what my latest project, The Why People Course, is really all about. It's a wake up call for bloggers blinded by limited amounts of success and the numbers associated with their blogs.
Some of you are going to think I'm just being Markco again, ranting to the populace and ramming my way of thinking down your throats. Guess what, sometimes it's the only way to wake you up. The drama and pathetic fighting between bloggers that has been going on for years isn't going to end, but if you're part of it then it's going to drag you down and hold you back. Even though I was never afraid to take a swing at those who attacked my person and blog, I wish I could take every single one of those retaliations back. I wish that I could be the guy who rose above it all and never responded to ignorant accusations and false twisting of my intentions. Why? Because you would rather I focused on making gold, not defending myself against those whose only aim is some extra traffic and an unprofessional, cheap laugh.
Bloggers, you need to get back to the basics and start talking about what makes wow gold making work in the first place. Challenge misconceptions and address the concerns of newer gold makers. Don't just focus on the news. Write something thorough that goes above and beyond your typical post (regardless of how thorough you're writing now). Don't try to write every day unless you can actually produce something worth reading that often. If you can't well that's perfectly OK, so try to remember that.
If you guys and girls don't take my advice then the wow community of gold bloggers that has formed around JMTC is going to devolve into petty arguments and pathetic squabbles about NOTHING. This kind of negativity isn't healthy for the wow gold blogging community as a whole. Why don't you try building each other up instead of tearing each other down? Isn't that how JMTC has been run this whole time? It's a place where any blogger can come and have their voice be heard, regardless of how many posts they have written in the past.
That's it for the negatives. Thank you Mageshadow for the past few months as you have done a tremendous job writing for Just My Two Copper and I look forward to seeing you get better and better at what you do on a daily basis. Thank you to the readers here and the content creators who have decided to embrace the challenge of blogging because they were inspired by JMTC.
Best wishes and congratulations to the community here, you're all winners in my eyes.
Markco
PS: Vacation was a blast, I was on a cruise ship for a five day sail to Bermuda and have never experienced anything like it before. Even with poor weather and some really bad "turbulence," it was still totally worth it.
Hello guys and gals! Welcome to another edition of Up & Coming Cataclysm Gold Blogs! This is something new that I'm starting at JMTC, every month or so I will do a post like this outlining the new gold making blogs that are out there and link you to them. I know most of you enjoy the stuff posted here at JMTC but we aren't the only ones posting quality content, there are TONS of other people who do the same thing I do, and I'm not going to lie; sometimes better. Any who, let's get started shall we? :)
Prncesspwn's AH
You guys know show she is. She's a member of the Addicted to Azeroth Podcast, a gold guru during the JMTC weekly meetings, she's just everywhere! She recently decided to start blogging and she's doing great! I regularly check her site out whenever a new post is released because the content is awesome! I especially liked her post on Supply Vs Demand and how to deal with it. Check her blog out if you haven't already, A+ stuff!
Stokpile
This blog is definetly not new, it dates back nearly a year! Stokpile ( If that is the name that you go by ) just recently hits 2 million gold so you know he/she knows what they're doing! The blog is filled with top of the line information that you should be given double and triple takes because it simply IS that good and informative. The content here is phenomenal to say the least. One of my favorite blogs to read that's for sure. Please for the love of whomever you worship check out this blog.
Ele-Mental Gold
Again another blog that isn't relatively knew, it dates back to October of 2010. Shamaenei just recently came back from a break and has started to go full speed ahead and so far it's awesome.Give this blog a read or two and make sure to check out some of the past content as that's also top notch stuff. Best of luck Shamaenei, hope you decide to stick around!
Gimps Golden Adventure
Last but not least we have Gimp, a brand new blogger that is welcomed with open arms. He attended this following weeks JMTC meeting so you guys kind of sort of met him. While the blog is still sort of new, the few posts that he has up seems spectacular. Check out his post on how to fully take advantage of the Remote Auction House App while it lasts, the info there is incredible for both newbies and gold gurus ( I learned something myself! ). Watch out for Gimp in the future folks! Make sure to check his blog often!
To The Readers:
This is a small sample of the many blog out there, most of them are good and provide great information, if you have the time leave a comment on their blog guys, they'll appreciate it, trust me. I know this because I appreciated it greatly when i was starting out at the Gnomish Coin. Taking 5 seconds of your time to tell someone, hey great job makes their day and it's not very hard.
I wish all of you the best of luck, keep up the good work!
Xander's Gold Mine
This is a bud of mines blog, you guys might recognize him from the friday night weekly Q&A Meetings, well if you don't know he's got his own blog with tons of great content. He's a frequent poster and recently re-designed his site to give it a more polished feel. Simply an A+ blog that's got some very interesting ideas. Check it out when you have the time, worth a read!
Copper Silver Gold
Another awesome blog which I just recently found. I love the way the site is designed ( I love a simplistic yet elegant look ). He's got simply great content and I love his writing style. The writer is a very out of the box thinker with very in-depth posts on said subjects. Overall a great blog to read if you have time, I read it whenever a new post is released! Best of luck to you, hope to see you 3 months down the road! ( Sorry I couldn't find your name! )
Kuja's Gold Mine
Another blog which I recently found/was told about. Kuja seems to focus on the hard hitting & big gold making methods. He's got excellent methods that will make you gold, either if you're a veteran or a newbie just starting out in the gold game. I really love reading his posts, they're detailed and entertaining, some of the titles grasp your attention and make you wonder oooh, what could it be? Again, if you have time, give this blog a read, you will not be disappointed.
Srsbussiness
This blog has actually been around for quite a while, I'm not exactly sure but it's pre-cata for sure. The site has an excellent website design, very clean, cut and sleek. The content is the same; clean, organized and in-depth. Not a everyday poster, but still very much worth the read, I mean have you seen his awesome speculation post on epic gems? Overall, an awesome blog that you be read whenever you have the time to do so. Keep up the good Khaas! Hope you blog for a long time to come! :)

Hello everyone, it's Mageshadow here and I'm preparing my next JMTC blogging carnival for February 2nd! The topic will be "How would you make gold if you had limited play time?" and if you'd like to enter simply read the instructions for all the blogging carnivals here at JMTC. I hope to see a decent turn out of bloggers writing about this topic! You've only got a couple days until the next carnival!
If you aren't a blogger, do you have a good way to make with limited game time? If so, leave a comment below!
P.S Follow me on twitter, I'll be tweeting great gold tips all weekend long!
When I first started blogging there really was no site out there that existed for the sole purpose of giving gold tips on a daily basis, every day, consistently and with great quality. It was sheer luck that I managed to fill this void and succeed in the first blogging expedition I had ever attempted. However, in my quest for power to become the number one blogger among gold blogs, as many goblins have documented in the past, I began using questionable strategies to boost my traffic and lower that of my non-existent competitors.
Doomed to Fail
It is for this reason that I blame myself when I look around these days and see dozens of wow gold sites popping up out of nowhere. Some of them have grown into really impressive communities, which again I blame myself for helping them to build these. Not to mention those damn blogging carnivals, those have turned unknown bloggers into renowned community members of the wow blogosphere sometimes overnight. Darn, my master plan was to suck those unknown blogs dry and steal their handful of subscribers for myself! Damn it, foiled again! And what's this, other blogs in the community are running their own carnivals or 'best of the month' conventions. Gah! Some even started their own podcasts, so Castaclysm was a failure as well it seems... What's next another gold forum? Ah shi...

Last nights meeting was awesome. I did record the meeting last night for those who couldn't attend it, You can either listen to it via stream from 4shared stream, or you can download the .mp3 here at this link. I'm sorry about the quality, there we roughly 85 people in the server, and sometimes we had to take turns talking. Also there were a few times were I or other users tried to talk but they couldn't because it bugged out. I'll admit, I was a bit nervous at the start ( you can tell ) but it was quite nice once it got started.
I had loads of fun, thought Teamspeak is a little buggy ( I didn't get to say goodbye/end the meeting because my mic wasn't working at the end ). I will be hosting these meetings every Friday night. I will try to change up the times sometimes it will run late night ( 10-11PM EST ), while other times it will be the standard 7-8PM EST. I'm running a couple late night meetings so the people on the west coast can join in as well.
I will be starting a podcast with this, I will submit this to Itunes and Zune, it will be updated weekly. I think this can become a great resource to have in general.
Any who, I hope you guys enjoy it, I recorded roughly 2 1/2 hours of the meeting, there is some great info in there, so check it out!
You may have noticed that there are double the subscribers on this site than there were a month ago. I'd like to take this week's Markco's Corner as an oppurtunity to share with bloggers and readers alike how I managed this incredible feat. Care to guess why JMTC has doubled its readership?
Paid advertisements?
Wait a second, the title says “listening instead of monitoring,” does that have something to do with it?

Collaboration
I'm linking, writing guest posts, hosting guest posts, tweeting, facebooking (is that a verb now too?), will be appearing on Tipoaa Sunday at 1:00 PM LIVE (you better be there!), exploring new media, improving the site, getting feedback from you and all in all I'm basically collaborating like crazy. Once Markco gets rolling it's hard to stop him (especially if he starts talking in the 3rd person). If you're a newer site or even a veteran blogger and want to collaborate, remember I'm only an email away. Odds are I'll probably come to you with the rate at which I've been engaging in this community, but please don't leave it to chance ;)
If you'd like ideas on collaborating or just want to help grow this community check out my post on spreading the wow gold tips. I'm also looking for ideas regarding topics of the next blogging carnival and will announce the details a week from now. I expect to release another within a month's time due to the insane popularity of the first carnival.
What are your opinions on the past month or so with this blog? Was the Carnival fun? Are you enjoying the growth and links to various sites in the community? Are you having fun participating and spreading the wow gold tips? Do you view growth as a danger with regards to gold tips as more people will then have access to them or do you see growth as a positive way to learn more about the auction house?
Looking Ahead
I'm always changing and evolving with the way I blog, just like when I play the auction house. I have numerous things in the works for enhancements to the site, future collaboration ideas with other bloggers and a few things I'd like to keep secret for the time being. Just know that some of them are BIG, very BIG.
New Site Layout
If you like the layout of JMTC, don't get too attached, I'm still working in a sandbox version of the site to vastly improve it. Keep throwing ideas at me on Twitter, the comments here, and Facebook. Do you like the castaclysm site? I'm considering moving towards a similar look and feel with a feed to my forums showing the top 10 current threads or something along those lines. I'd also move my blog rolls to a separate page and leave a news ticker at the top just like on the podcast's site.
There are a hundred different ways I could change JMTC to make it easier to access as well as keep the content 'above the fold' so to speak. I want to simplify the site and make more use of a condensed list of links to achieve this goal.
On the topic of condensing, be sure to thank Zerotorescue for reorganizing the JMTC gold forums.
Blog Monetization
I offer several ways to 'donate' to the site by buying products I've created. A new printable pdf guide was added to the Buy Guides section and is entitled: "World of Warcraft Auction House Guide" on lulu.com. It is considerably cheaper than my constantly updated online guide (only $11.99 vs $37) and contains timeless strategies which you need to become a professional auctioneer like myself. Note that the 20k leveling gold guide obviously contains more content and receives updates, but I wanted to provide a smaller version of the guide that teaches all the timeless information that is unaffected by patch notes. If you haven't bought my 20k leveling guide and would like to try something cheaper, please try this new ebook and also please leave a review since the ebook is brand new and needs more visibility. Consider your purchase a donation to the JMTC community as I am constantly funneling my time (40+ hours a week), money (upwards of $200 a month) and energy (never ending supply, I hope) back into this blog and various associated websites.
Real Life
One of the hardest weeks of my life just ended. Basically, two loved ones have passed away tragically. Not much else to say except that it sucks and life can be cruel at times. Religion really helps during these hard times as well as loving family.
Blogging Carnival August 2nd
Here's a sneak peak at some of the blogs being featured in the Carnival on August 2nd:
Caffeine, Smokes, and Auction House Fees
The AH Pile
Wow Grrl
Warcraft Econ
Wow Confidential
Gold Capped (wow.com)
QQ Pew Pew
...and a host of others! Email me and let me know if you'd like to have your blog featured (new or old posts are ok) and also email me if you know a site that you want to show up in the Carnival.
Check this post for information regarding the Carnival.
Wow
I attempted to sell some epics this week including battered hilts and boe's from ICC. An interesting forum discussion happened when someone asked the question "Server transfering, What ICC BOEs to Sell?" I crushed the 217k gold in two months goal this past week by a landslide... 240k as of last night in 8 weeks! Keep in mind that I didn't even play those full 8 weeks nor did I have time to play every day. I stuck to a strict schedule of about 10 hours per week and tried to maintain a casual style of play. I hope to incorporate some of the lessons learned into future posts.
I did some research on prot changes and am very happy about the changes for prot pvp in cataclysm. Expect me to be back to my old tricks again in pvp.
I should probably spend some time leveling and making gold on my kel'thuzad mage catskan at some point, if I ever find time lol. Now even thunderer is past me in the leveling race!
I have been putting more emphasis on Twitter and Facebook to interact with the audience here, definitely check it out and join the great discussions that have been going on there.
Real Life
Life is rather hectic right now and there's never enough time to get all my podcasts done, experiment in wow, write for the blog, run every day and visit family/friends. Poor Call to Auction podcast has suffered the most from my busyness :*( . I'm going to see my dad since he recently had surgery and so I probably won't have time to do either podcast this weekend.
I am going to start pushing social media even more on the blog and I want to continue to develop ways for the community to get together so this week I launched the Markco Polo wow gold facebook page. Here I'll be posting gold tips, questions to get you guys engaged and other fun stuff. I am even considering creating facebook applications in the near future. Get involved and friend Markco Polo on facebook!
I wish you all luck selling your wares during July 4th weekend and I am very jealous because I will not get a chance to play this weekend.
Recently I mentioned on twitter and youtube that I have been trying to hit a gold cap in under 3 months. To make it a fair measurement I sold off my items so that I'd be starting off with a clean slate and I have been sending all my gold earned since that point to a single character. Sunday will be week 7 and I should be pretty damn close if my 48 hour auctions I post today sell over the weekend. Hoping to be at around 190-200k and then next week I should hit a single cap. If I don't get to post tonight then I will probably have some issues but I'm pretty sure I'll get about an hour or so of auctioneering in. If I manage to make around 20k next week (child's play) and get my posts finished tonight then I will have earned a gold cap in under two months with much less play time than ever before! The highest week so far was a 40k beauty earned early on in the endeavor and I've been working hard to revise my strategies in order to get the most gold for my time. In fact the "snatch list of a pro" chapter for the gold guide is exactly how I've managed this feat of auctioneering and is pretty much the culmination of everything I've learned about making gold in world of warcraft (for straight crafting between professions that is).
I'm averaging about 10 hours played and 30-35k gold per week. If I had the time and energy to put in 15 hours a week I'm sure I'd be breaking 50k on top of finding more deals to take my profits even higher.
When I hit the single cap in two months by next weekend I should have around 30-50k in materials left over and stuffed in my guild banks. Having that many materials on hand is a bi-product of this strategy. I'd like to try doing this again some time soon and stop stockpiling materials once I'm in the 180k+ range so as to speed up making the 37k more gold necessary to pass the cap.
Expect more posts about this when I get the chance, especially when I finish up. I hope you all have a safe and happy July 4th.
RL First
Some days you just want a day off. Some weeks you just want every day off! This was one of those weeks and my RL commitments were a little overwhelming to say the least. That doesn't mean I stop producing content however! I'm looking forward to a very slow and relaxing weekend where I'll get to hang with friends on friday, spend all saturday with the ball and chain (who am I kidding I love her) and sunday surprise my dad with a gift which I won't name right now because he could be reading this post!!!
Wow Second
Ok so I made tens of thousands of gold this week.. I'm not really sure how much since I seem to buy up materials sometimes as quickly as I sell them! I'd estimate I'm cracking the 8k mark on good days but I'm also buying as much as 6k gold in materials as well. Eventually I'll get to the point where I have so many materials coming in that I can't possibly handle buying any more and that's when the money really starts rolling in. I'm hoping to break 50k this week in sales before taking out purchases on materials for future weeks. I'm running into competition on inscription from two players who camp the ah every night but I have my ways of etching out 2k gold right from under their noses while also making the rest of my gold from other professions. I also like to play with them and have 5 of each profitable glyph in my bags and I just post them each time they undercut. You see these players don't have stockpiles of each glyph so they have to waste time canceling their whole lot and then trying to re-post under my undercut. As soon as they're done I immediately re-post without having to cancel. All the while I've been selling glyphs while they run cancel scans and collect their mail. It's not the most efficient use of my time but I do get a little bit of joy torturing my competitors every once in a while. If only I had no life and could camp the ah like they do then things would really get interesting!
Oh by the way two blogs are back in business: ReloadUI and A Gnome's Conquest
