Mommar here.
Discipline is one of those words that brings memories to the forefront. Whether it's talking about how your parents raised you, or the need to control your actions and choices to reach a higher goal.
Since I don't know how your parents raised you, nor do I really want to know I'm wanting to talk about the latter. Fun toys all the time come up for sale or auction. Players wanting to get rid of BOE pets, gear, transmogrification items tempt the best of Gold Goblins in spending their hard earned gold.
I was sitting on the Black Market Auction House deciding if I wanted to raise a big higher for an item I wanted. This last week I was on a pet collecting march and one of the rare Trading Card Game pets came up. The Banana Charm was up for bid, with the price when I arrived at 21k. That's a hefty amount of gold for a pet, but I was in a spending mood plus it's an 80 dollar real money pet if you buy the card from ebay (or other sources).
So I sat there thumbing through the web while I waited for the auction to end. I was outbid once, twice (nope, not three times a lady) by someone who obviously wanted this pet too. I used all of my auction house techniques other than calling them bad names (they were Alliance) and then proceeded to make a decision.
I had enough gold I could drop a 100k bomb on them and knock them out pretty quickly. But that is a seriously overpriced payment for a battle pet. Or I could discipline myself into saying this is the amount I'm willing to pay and no more. So mentally I set that price, and then walked away.
As I logged on this morning I found myself the owner of a new Banana Charm and the pet that comes with it. Frankly, it doesn't always happen like this. Someone might want the item a little bit more than I do. Items such as rare mounts tend to get a lot of interest and spirited bidding. The key is to discipline yourself into knowing just what you want and what it is worth to you. If you have higher plans for your gold (Spectral Tiger anyone) then you have to look at each purchase you make and how much that will delay your ability to reach your goal.
My Achilles heel is helping others. I probably have given up a million gold simply by not charging my guildmates for items. Giving materials that could be resold for bundles of gold is one of the simple pleasures I get out of life. If I know you then I will probably help you. But there is a limit to any generosity because I have plans of my own. I have goals I would like to reach gold wise and purchases in the future that will be my next expectation.
So finding balance and discipline in every transaction goes to the heart of being a Gold Goblin. Keep this in mind the next time you bid on your own Banana Charm. Not just looking at it in how much gold your spending, but how much time it will delay you from reaching your true epic expectations.

I was gluffing around Orgrimmar, getting ready to run through some old raids when an interesting chat discussion came along.
Paraphrasing, two players were taunting someone else for a advertisement they had been barking for cheap glyphs. In their advertisement they bluntly stated that they wanted to crash the inscription market to bring 'cheap glyphs to all'.
I had spoken about this before the first time that I watched an inscription market crash and burn. Of all of the different markets, inscription is really the easiest to crash. Herbs on many servers are at dirt cheap prices. Being able to craft hundreds of glyphs, listing them at inexpensive prices and still being able to net a small profit.
To crash any market you need to have a base amount of gold sitting unused. Mostly because it would be impossible once someone has bought out your first round of glyphs to have that many herbs stockpiled. I probably shouldn't say impossible but ultimately you will run out of raw material and either have to purchase extra or go and farm them.
A conglomerate of players would find crashing the market easier simply by one or two funneling the herbs into the scribe. That way the scribe can be keeping the product artificially low.
Where morally crashing a market could be seen as reprehensible, financially it can be a very strong strategy. There are 150+ glyphs. Only about 30 of those actually making a large amount of profit. The others end up dribbling profits since they are not in high demand. So let's say you take the 10 highest profitable glyphs. You can live healthily off of those 10 glyphs and then crush the rest of the scribe market. Many players run away from markets that aren't quick 'list and profit' type of markets. This leaves only the die hard players who know how to fight back.
Ultimately a market will snap back simply because the planning on keeping the market artificially becomes boring. Even the best of intentions will get someone only so far. But the damage has been done when a player leaves the market for easier and more fertile ground.
With Warlords of Dradnor, inscription is going to have some changes in different glyphs. Many of the more powerful glyphs will be given to players in their book as they level. New Glyphs will become important to players, with the 'best set' of glyphs yet to be determined.
Don't let the chain rattling of someone determined to sew anarchy into the mix to remove you from the scribe market. Look at how the scribe market has always reacted to incursions and be prepared.

There have been many times that I've wanted to take medication for my scribe to make gold. Now I can make gold in any of my professions. But the amount of work required has been better spent on my other professions. Whether you choose to use the wall-o-glyph method of listing glyphs or pick your battles on what is hot at that time. Either method can grind out gold over a long time.
Patch 5.4 being right around the corner could give people a chance to ride the bubble that occurs when new glyphs are introduced. Players race to fill in the slots that open up in their books, and with so many players having alt's leveling the chances to jump that gold bubble is highly possible.
I say highly possible because it's still possible these new glyphs won't be brought into patch 5.4 (they are listed at NYI which I would assume probably means Not Yet Implemented).
If they are brought in (with the normal costs and probably learned from one of the vendors) it will be a first come first serve on the Auction House or Trade Chat to sell.
The list of the new glyphs includes:
Unknown (probably one Paladin and One Rogue)
Glyph of the Headhunter (Rogue?)
Glyph of Pillar of Light (Paladin?)
Mage
Glyph of the Unbound Elemental
Monk
Glyph of Detox
Glyph of Expel Harm
Glyph of Fortuitous Spheres
Glyph Of Nimble Brew
Glyph of Rapid Rolling\
Paladin
Glyph of Divine Shield
Glyph of Devotion Aura
Glyph of Hand of Sacrifice
Glyph of the Exorcist
Priest
Glyph of Inspired Hymns
Rogue
Glyph of Improved Distraction
Warlock
Glyph of Curse of the Elements
Glyph of Havoc
Glyph of Unending Resolve
Warrior
Glyph of Impaling Throws
Glyph of the Executor
Glyph of the Raging Whirlwind
Glyph of the Subtle Defender
Glyph of the Watchful Eye
Glyph of the Weaponmaster
Glyph of Victorious Throw
There is a mix of different glyphs in per class with Warrior and Monk get the most scribe loving. If these are brought out this will give a nice boost for the opening two weeks of the new patch. Letting things die down to the normal gold grind that happens once the majority of people have filled up their scribe books.
Now is a good time to start farming materials from either normal means or off the auction house. Having a good supply of ink to craft from the start will get you ahead of the game.
Patch 5.4 brings out a lot of interest in what could be the final patch for Mists of Pandaria. Time to get ready for a Garrosh sized bun whooping.

It's the day after patch 5.3, and the world did not come to an end. Cats and dogs are not laying together and the Mayans were still wrong.
One of the things I did before patch 5.3 is to change my lineup a little bit. I kept my main characters but shuffled around some of the alternates and their professions.
Mommar:
(The main man)
He will always be my main, being a Leatherworker and Blacksmith since I started it's been a good combination of profession upgrades and the ability to gain patterns through dungeons and raids.
Move:
This is my farming toon, having been my Skinner and Miner since I started her. She also is my ranged player when I am bored with getting up in mobs faces and hitting them very hard.
Alt 3: (you really think I was going to tell you who your competition was?)
This is my shaman Jewelcrafter and Engineer. I inherited her from another player and arranged her professions to where I wanted them to be. She also will do dungeons and the occasional raids to obtain patterns.
Alt 4:
This is my Druid. Having flying ability has made her my Alchemist and Herbalist. There was the thoughts of converting her to a different profession but I kept both of them for the time being.
Alt 5:
This is my Paladin. She's one of my first pet projects because I became bored during the Cataclysm and wanted a different challenge. Being my Scribe and Herbalist has made her play in the background since both inscription and Herbalism are most difficult professions to make profits in.
Alt 6:
My Warlock is my Enchanter and Tailor. She has been a very steady moneymaker with bags and enchants though I have been lax in getting her leveled. Still one of my top moneymakers since Burning Crusade. \
(I shake her a lot of extra coins on the mailbox)
Alt 7:
This is one of my two bank toons. I keep her in Thunder Bluff for most of my flipping opportunities and the random big ticket items that I want to rotate for sale.
Alt 8:
My other bank toon sitting in Tanaris. I use her for flipping items between Horde, Alliance and vice versa. I've also used her for food storage ever since Burning Crusade (anyone want some worg meat?)
Alt 9:
My Death Knight is in semi retirement. I use him as my pet seller and the occasional odds and ends. He is also my other Engineer. One of my engineer has the goblin profession line and this one has the gnome profession line. It is less of a problem than it was during the earlier expansions.
Alt 10.
My goblin shaman is my first that received the makeover. Originally I took my own advice and gave her mining and Herbalism. This has been profitable for both money and experience. Recently I changed her mining profession to my second alchemist and started leveling her for the future transmutes.
Alt 11:
My Rogue rounds out my lineup. He originally was going to be a Jewelcrafter and Engineer but there is an internal debate with the lineup on whether I will ultimately need a third Alchamist. Engineering is enjoyable but having three in the lineup is not always cost effective. There are now very few Engineer only items available other than helms.
When I set my lineup I wanted a combination of enjoyable game play and money making opportunity. My Druids became very strong farmers due to the flight capabilities and not needing to drop out of flight form to pick up herbs.
My hunter is my skinner because while I'm mowing down one mob I can set my pet to tag three or four more for killing and processing.
Keeping an eye on your lineup and adjusting based on the economy and available gameplay is to be expected. The change should always be welcome with the right planning and budgeting.
Good Luck and Good Hunting

The powers that be announced in a tweet (yes, people still tweet in this world and not just Kanye) that the new patch (patch 5.3) would drop on the 22nd of May.
Good news for those that are looking for new content and new opportunities. Bad news for those that dislike new and shiny things. If you haven't started downloading the patch in the background make sure to turn on your Wow starter screen before you go to bed tonight.
Between now and then will be a great time to pick up a few items to prepare for the oncoming patch storm. There were very few direct changes to professions other than the mining and Herbalism. With new heroic scenarios, pvp battlegrounds and other changes this is going to feel more like a maintenance patch at first than a huge influx of content.
For the gold goblin in all of us there will be opportunities to flex our fingers and get to the gold grabbing. New equipment always means new chances to sell item enhancements. So having a good stockpile of enchanting supplies and raw materials (Living Steel, Magnificant Hides) for patches will set you up. Don't forget your conversions so that you're not just buying Hides at high prices when you can convert lower leathers to what you want.
50 exotic leathers = 1 magnificent hide
1 daily Magnificance of Leather/Scales gives you the same Magnificent hide at half the cost (25)
If you're like me, the Jewelcrafting market has been steady but not stellar. Most of this is from the big 4 gems (+agi, +str +int +stam) been up and down like a yo-yo for sales. Just when I flip the market to a good price I like (200-250 per) someone runs in to quickly undercut it at drastic prices. So in my bank there are a few extra red gems that need a good home. Keeping an eye on sales and seeing just where the market rolls will let you get rid of some excess inventory.
Inscription is going to be an interesting beast to keep an eye on. As I explained earlier with the introduction of the third specialization for their characters, players are going to want to fill holes in their glyph book so that they can be a triple threat (tanking, dps, pvp) or any other mixture. The inscription market is depressed so it will be tricky to decide whether to craft/flip glyphs for players to purchase. Or to just take the profits from other professions and walk away. Keeping an eye on the secondary markets (herbs, alchemy) to see just what happens with their relationship to inscriptions.
Excitement is always in the air with a new patch. And new adventures await for the brave who take the plunge into new markets. Keep your eyes on the prize and see you on the other side.

If you read yesterdays missive we took a look at the mining changes in Patch 5.3. Not surprising Herbalism received a similar mechanic upgrade.
Players who can get access to Pandaria (level 84 or higher) can start to pick any herbs in Pandaria. They start off with a 1 to 10 ratio. Basically for every 10 picks you get one usable plant. As you continue this ratio becomes better and better till your skill level is able to pick at a 1 to 1 ratio (or higher depending on your guild level, your picking level etc.).
I didn't believe that mining ore in Pandaria would have a major effect on the economy. With these changes in Herbalism I'm getting a feeling of the opposite. Herbalism is a nice farming area especially when combined with a potion or transmute master. The Druids with flight form can just drop quickly on an herb patch, pick it and run without anyone knowing they were there.
These changes might not be earth shattering but it could encourage players to make sure they have some type of farmer in their arsenal. As players become more and more burnt out on content they are going to look for more vegetative opportunities. Places where they can just gather items and loot and still hold conversations inside their verbal guild halls.
Don't be surprised if the herb market takes a slow hit and then quickly adjusts. Keeping an eye on the market when Patch 5.3 arrives (expected sometime in the next two weeks) should give a good opportunity to restock the pantry for Herbalism needs.
For scribes this is important as well. Low costing herbs and inks can help get you back into a stagnant market that inscription has become on many servers. With the knowledge that players will be finishing off their glyph books to fill in a 3rd specialization this is a prime opportunity to jump back into the market for a quick money fix.
So get your beer (root preferred thank you) and get to pick some grass. Your army of alternates will be appreciative.

On many servers, Inscription is the red headed step child of World of Warcraft professions. On many servers it is easily controlled by a few who will undercut glyphs and items, making the sales have low profitability and hardly worth the time for listing. On other servers players make a large amount of gold by placing glyphs up on a daily basis.
Patch 5.3 might be opening a new chance at a burst of sales. The PTR's and blue notes are showing the possibility of opening up a 3rd slot for changing your specialization. Many players, especially tank classes have filled their quotas with one tank slot and one DPS slot. With a 3rd slot possibility many of these players may look at PVP as an other slot option for enjoyment.
Where many players have filled all of their glyph slots from previous changes, others pick and choose just what they need to use for that time. With Some glyphs being up to 300g a piece, it was difficult to afford to have all of the glyphs for a class. With a 3rd slot some of these empty spaces will get filled with new items useful for the new chosen specialization. And with Inscription being where it's at sales wise, new chances at sales even if it's for a 1 to 2 week basis will be very useful.
So how do you prepare for this? You have a couple of options. Picking up inexpensive herbs will allow you to craft items as soon as demand hits after the dropping of Patch 5.3 (which no one knows when it will hit). Also keeping an eye for already crafted glyphs and picking them up for a song to flip when the time is right. The 2nd possibility for flipping glyphs can be used by both scribes and non scribes.
Every patch that gets released allows chances to maintain a steady flow of gold, plus jump on trends to obtain burst sales for your gold goblin pockets. Prepare now and ride the wave.

We have talked often about having a pattern when you log on. The different styles of setting up your chore list depends many times on the time that you have.
With Patch 5.2 all of the major professions received a cool down of some type. With Blacksmithing and Leatherworking this allowed the learning of new patterns. These should have become a part of every gold goblins daily chores.
Leatherworking - Magnificance of Leather or Scales (20 Exotic Leather or 20 Prismatic Scales)
Blacksmithing - Lightning Steel Ingot (10 Ghost Iron Bar)
Inscription - Scroll of Wisdom (1 Light Parchment + 3 Ink Of Dreams)
Alchemy - Living Steel (6 Trillium Bars)
Enchanting - Sha Crystal (5 Ethereal Shard or 25 Mysterious Essence or 125 Spirit Dust)
Tailoring - Imperial Silk (8 Bolts of Windwool Cloth)
Some of these have the ability to have more than 1 created each day with use of Spirits of Harmony but I rarely suggest using this method. There is more advantageous and money making profit from using the Spirits of Harmony for crafting items. If Blizzard decides in a future patch to remove the Spirits of Harmony BOP status then this will become a much more desired method.
Some are probably going 'duh Mommar, I already knew all this'. My answer would be to remember that when that large task of things to do seems impossible, going back to basics and getting your base materials can open up what should be done next. Whether you have 2 of the 6 major professions or all 6 in your alt army, finishing up your basic tasks will put you in a better position for gold making possibilities.

As the days wind down on the cataclysm expansion, the 85 level darkmoon card decks have all but served their usefulness. They were at the beginning some of the most powerful trinkets available for players just entering raiding. On some toons they lasted long during the different patches.
But somewhere forgotten during the rush to get these cards were the lower level decks available for players. The Swords Deck, Mages Deck, Demons Deck and Rogues Deck were not in as high of a demand as the other decks. But now that multiple amounts of leveling toons are just over the horizon picking up a few of these decks to turn in could become very profitable. Each of these decks only take five cards (ace through four) of the suit. Clicking on the completed deck starts a quest to go to the Darkmoon Isle during the weeklong festival.
Rogues Deck (ace, two, three, four and five of Rogues)
Starting off the decks is a turn in for a level 10 chest item. These might not be in as high of demand
simply because the equipment is turned over very quickly between level 10 and 20. Still buying the cards cheaply and crafting the decks to either sell whole or the turn ins can get a handy profit.
Darkmoon Vest
Darkmoon Robe
Darkmoon Chain Suit
Swords Deck (ace, two, three, four and five of swords)
This deck when turned in gives you the choice of three items with a minimum of level 20 requirement.
Azure Shoulderguards
Cloaked Shoulderpads
Darkcloth Shoulders
All three of these have random enchants on them. Good rare shoulders are rare at level 20 so can bring in a nice amount of gold to levelers. They are BOE so they can be sold on the AH for a solid profit if the cards/deck is obtained inexpensively
Mages Deck (ace, two, three, four and five of Mages)
This deck when turned in gives you a item for a level 30 neck slot
Darkmoon Necklace
Darkmoon Pendant
Both Items again are BOE and decent level 30 blue neck pieces are going to be in high demand.
Demons Deck (ace, two, three, four and five of Demons)
This gives us access to level 40 weapons
Darkmoon Executioner
Darkmoon Magestaff
Darkmoon Dirk
For added bonus enchanting with a enchantment such as Enchant Weapon - Agility or Enchant Weapon Spellpower to make your profit margin explode. This is one of those times that selling in trade chat with the enchant will net you more than just adding it to the Auction House sales rotation you already have.
Where crafting these cards from materials might be counterproductive, there are many times individual cards and even decks on the Auction house for next to nothing. I've purchased multiple decks for totals of 5-8g. Knowing that I will be able to turn these over during the Mists of Pandaria expansion for 10x the profit or more. So scour through the AH and see what decks you can put together. Every small or large profit brings you that much closer to the gold goblin mountain.

Mommar checking in.
So I did some late night purchases. Picked up some Netherweave, Embersilk and Frostweave cloth
from last minute sellers. A lot of things are going to depend on tomorrow and whether they roll
out a 11th character slot.
You would think that a 11th slot wouldn't be that important. But many players grow attached to their creations, and have a difficult time of deleting toons. So 10 toons slots on a server gets filled pretty quickly. By allowing players to roll an race (panda lovers have to wait til the gates of Pandaria open)
there will many new classes and races explored in the next 30 days. That 11th slot will be filled
quickly by players wanting to try something new. Goblins, Worgen, new races and new classes.
So just that fact should get your gold goblin radar going off. More players and classes mean more
opportunities to sell bags, and potions and enchants. Jewelcrafting, which had took a major hit as
of late production of profit will get a boost to recover. And Inscription will get it's Glyphmas part 2
early.
So between when the servers go down for maintenance and the opening of 5.04 there are still chores to
finish.
1. Update those add-ons. Personally I use Curse.com for most of my updates but a few have to be
manually updated. Having the most up to date add-ons will help with any bugs (don't forget to
check the box that says "load out of date add-ons" when you first get started tomorrow afternoon).
2. Do some research on your best spec. Everything changes with the talent trees and abilities. So be
prepared to have to learn some new rotations. And enjoy getting to play with some new toys.
Wowinsider.com will have a good listing on the different changes in classes. So spend a little time
to see what playstyle and talent tree works best for you.
3. Be ready for delays. This is one of those major patches that is pretty well guaranteed to have delays.
So logging in at 3 ET exactly to try to log on will only bring you frustration. There is a small chance
it will go off without a hitch. If it does then it will be a first. Being patient will get you past the
process with less gray hair.
4. Don't forget it's a game. Unless you're getting paid to play, then get some air, go and take a walk
beacause in the next week there will be lots to digest. Losing your cool and ranting in trade chat
only makes kittens cry, and some players laugh.
I'm looking forward to 5.04. More money, more fun and ooo, shiny charges with my Warrior.

One of the biggest money making opportunities coming up before the release of Mists of Pandaria will be
'Glyphmas part 2'. 'Glyphmas' originally was when Blizzard expanded the glyph mechanics to 3 tiers and added/removed multiple glyphs. Players bought multiple glyphs to fill the gaps they had in their toons. Large amounts of gold were made by the inscriptionists that were prepared.
But left out in the cold were the non inscriptionist who watched players rake in 1000's of gold per day. This time the non inscriptionist can be prepared to make a sizeable profit from just a little time and investment.
On many servers glyphs are going for inexpensive (I'm hesitant to use the word dirt cheap, but 1.5g per glyph is right next to dirt on it's cost). These glyphs are going for less than it costs to purchase the ink itself. So a wise investor will start to look for these bargains to sell when the rush hits. I set my purchase limit to 10g and my total limit to 20 glyphs. Depending on your server size you may raise or lower these limits.
The easiest way to do this is to go into the standard search directory for the auction house, click on the glyph category and then flip the search so that it goes from lower to higher. Doing this will also allow you to look at glyphs that are for a low bid. Bidding low is a good way to occasionally get a high level win in the gold rush. If you lose your bid, you get your gold back. Win and relist either now or later when the demand is at it's highest.
Also a good target will be the inks themselves. Just stay away from the speciality inks [Fiery Ink] etc unless your very familiar with what each ink can be used for. Mid level inks such as [Jadefire Ink] will retain it's value.
Later on we will have a more detailed suggestion on 'Glyphmas revisited' and how to take more advantage of this boon in the market.

If you haven't heard, Area-of-Effect, or AoE Looting has been added in Mists of Pandaria. Check Mommar's post yesterday for his excitement about the feature, along with a video about it.
So what does this mean for the economy and our gold-making going forward? A few areas that will be impacted, plus a surprising twist on where AoE Looting could take us in the future...
Skinning
Unlike Mining and Herbing, which rely on nodes spaced out on a map, Skinning can improve efficiency by gathering several mobs together, killing them, then looting and skinning. AoE Looting gets you to the skinning faster, which means more leather to sell.
Cloth Gathering
Cloth will see a similar boost in supply (and corresponding dip in prices most likely). I used to run the Stockades in Stormwind on my max-level tank regularly to get wool cloth. Now, I can gather up the whole instance, kill everything and loot once. Nice.
Transmogrification Farming
Have you gone back to look for old gear for transmog purposes? I know I have. You can't skip any loot, because that mob might be the one that has what you need. Much like the cloth gathering, you can now pull the instance (all at once or in chunks) and then loot it.As a bonus, pop a potion of treasure finding if you go looting in the Cataclysm zones once you hit 90.
The AoE Looting Surprise
Of course, this stuff is all well and good, but what's the surprise twist? A while back, a question came up on the main forums about automating the prospecting and looting process for Jewelcrafters and Scribes. There were some limitations that prevented queue-able milling/prospecting (think like a Miner's smelting). I suspect the problem was that prospecting is really just a form of looting on a time-delay. You hit your prospect button, choose which ore to prospect, then wait a couple seconds before looting what you "find" in the ore.
If you think about it, the game is treating 5 pieces of ore or herbs like a mob. You "loot" it to find what's inside. So what if there were an interface similar to the trade window, where you drop in stacks of ore or herbs. The game could query the server for a loot-table on your products, then return it in one batch loot window, similar to how the mobs are being looted with this new feature.
This same system could be applied to items that need to get disenchanted as well. Drop a bunch of items in, hit the "Mass Disenchant" button and take all the materials from one window.
There would probably need to be a longer delay for a mass disenchant/prospect/mill feature to prevent these professions from becoming insanely unprofitable [Note: Thanks to Anonymous1 for catching the mistype] (can you imagine if prospecting 20 stacks of ore took only a few seconds?) but this could be the first step to making a more sensible system for handling these time-consuming processes.
