5.2 Watch: Capping Justice Points

Mommar here.

In less than 24 hours there will be either many many MANY screams of "you promised" or another server reset and maintenance day.

All of this possible angst brought to us from the dissection of one comment.   After the announcement of the patch date being Feb 26,  Everyone rushing off to spend their valor points due to the statement that valor points would be converted downwards to justice points.

The Blizzard powers that be recanted this change later in the week stating that the valor points would no longer be reset (Thanks Uncle Blizzard for the Valor Points).   This does not mean that tomorrow players won't be waking up to long load times as the new patch updates and deploys on the server.

Unfortunately, if you haven't hit your weekly topping off of valor points then you have today to finish if this scenario plays out.   Now 1000+ valor points is nothing to shake a stick at.    Valor gear should be half price after the patch day so that 1000 points now will go to become 2000 points.  But the ability to upgrade gear
Disappears till at least patch 5.3.   So balancing out your expectations on gear between patch day and arriving at gear level reputation with the new reputation vendors.

What gets lost in the patch gear is the release of BOA leveling gear for Justice Points.   Justice points items have seriously suffered from excitement all through the Mists of Pandaria.   The gear obtained via Justice points were at a lower ilvl to Heroic Raid gear.  So these items were used to spot fill gear selection items till a suitable replacement from Heroics or Raid/crafted gear.

Patch 5.2 and farther will bring a lot of players to start to heavily level their alt army.   Professions weren't as pressed to maximize their leveling exploits to be viable.   Jewelcrafting could finish off their patterns from grinding in Jade Forrest for a few hours.  Blacksmithing and Leatherworking and tailoring needed reputation from Klaxxi and Golden Lotus to become viable in many markets.  So BOA gear becomes that much more important to get the alt army to 85 and into the hunt to get the army to 90 with regular gear upgrades.

The key to look at is that many players already have most of their alt army at 85.   So Justice Points again sit there without an outlet until level 90.  Then spent to do a quick gear upgrade to get you into Heroic/raiding position that much quicker.

So hopefully tomorrow there isn't a sudden shift in the force,  like 8 million players finding out that their time is over to finish capping their valor points.   Here's to hoping tomorrow stays just the same as any other server reset the day and then we all receive a patch 5.2 reprieve.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

(There was a PTR release two hours after this article was written so it's pretty much a guarantee that we are all safe for another week of grinding out valor points)

As we are in the home stretch to patch 5.2 it's difficult not to remember the trials and tribulations to come.  With a one new Raid instance and another world boss many players will be returning to the old dungeons to maximize their reputation with different groups in the game.   This will follow with many players having run these instances time after time after time after (you get the idea).

The interesting part is that there are a few that are looking to return to the game or even start to play in Pandyland.   New players and returning players get to run into the wall of attitude that happens from time to time.  The expectations that players who are relatively overgeared for instances are 'carrying' the team.

No one will ever accuse me of being the best player in Warcraft.   But I hold my own.   Even then I will make mistakes,  especially with some of the short cuts that players will take instances.  Skipping mob groups to speed up their collection of Valor tokens and reputation.   The majority of players are good sports and will get a little grouchy then moving on.  But occasionally you just run into someone wanting to qualify as the Richard of the week (Think nicknames people).

But they also have a right to play exactly the way they want too.   They can gripe and fuss and yell noob as many times as they want.   The same rights and privileges I have to completely ignore them,  or even laugh at their 'greatness' in a made up game with made up items.

And that truly is the key to remember.  Ultimately the only thing that is real with Warcraft are the people behind the keyboard.   Whether they really are not that good,  or you run into the #1 player in the world in your instance group.  Real players have real issues.  The guy griping and complaining might have 4 keys balancing on their knee and a wife who lets him half an hour a day to play.  Or they could be a 14 year old who is failing at math and health class.

Even if they are none of this,  feeding fuel into the fire never solves anything.   The best way to handle a bully in an instance is to ignore them,  find out if you are in error and then fix the problem.   And if you find that it's truly not tolerable.   Drop the instance and go onto the next one.   There are plenty of daily quests,   action house duties or even sitting in the middle of trade chat.   All can be just as exciting as listening to a blow-hole shooting their mouths off about how awesome they are in a game.

Now,   If I can only remember to hit that stupid bugs soft spot,  then he won't yell at me again.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Patch 5.2: Thanks Uncle Blizzard for the Valor

Have you ever met that person that whenever they say 'sure is sunny outside' then it rains the rest of the week?   Well I am starting to feel that way about patch 5.2.

Just yesterday I commented about how the Valor points and Conquest points were going to be reset.   People rushing to make sure they have spent their points for valuable prizes.   Well thanks to Uncle Blizzard last night they have changed their mind.  Valor and Conquest points will not reset. (Ugh).

So this a tale of two cities when it comes to valor.  The current Valor items will be at half price (unless the big guys change their mind again) so you will end up with more bang for your buck item wise.  But after 5.2 the upgrading of items for valor points will not be available.  (Supposedly this will return in patch 5.3 but who is really counting that.)

It still is a good idea to have the majority of your items that you intend on keeping upgraded with your valor points before patch 5.2 hits.  There will be some new goodies from the Shadow Pan offensive and the Kirin Tor/Sunreaver Offensive.   But these will be very dependent on your reputation with either faction.   Having your gear in top shape for raiding with the next patch will put you above the average.

But this is a good journal and not a whine fest.   The same application of your raw materials your saving for patches and enhancements.   The one thing that might take a large hit is going to be Meta Gem Market.  5.2 introduces the next step in the epic raiding quest line.   Those that complete the questline end up getting a meta gem for their helm.  Depending on your server this could vastly impact the demand there is for meta gems from Jewelcrafters.  There will always be some demand when it comes to gear helms for raiding.  But when players reach their Best In Slot gear for their helm they won't be replacing those meta gems often.

Don't ignore the professions that tend to take a beating at the end of a raiding cycle.   Jewelcrafters are going to be in demand to fill up slots from the new gear.  Each tier of gear gives more slots and more opportunity for sales.  So picking up some of the base cut gems (str, agi, int, spirt) for cheap prices and then flipping them on the first week of Patch 5.2 should set you in a good place.

Currently the estimated release for patch 5.2 is the 26th of Feburary.  But with this Valor change and them stating you will be able to max out your valor before the patch it is possible that date will be moved back further.  But it's a better plan to just post on your calender for the 26th for everything to explode.

Keep your head above water and keep on planning.   Uncle Blizzard can't change his mind again can he????

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Thanks Uncle Scrooge McBlizzard

Mommar Here.

Seems that our Uncles at Blizzard are not big on the stockpiling of Valor or Justice Points.  With the new announcement on how they are converting both sets of points,  players that were banking on free gold were highly disappointed.

The basic time frame now is

The next patch is released on August 28th. (5.0.4)

Valor Points would be converted to Justice points with the intro patch to Mists of Pandara,  Justice Points would stay the same.  Justice Points have no cap on them.  Justice points will be the only points able to be earned.  Valor Points no longer will be available til the opening of Mists of Pandaria. Items purchased by Valor Points will be available via Justice points.

Conquest points get converted to Honor Points.
Arenas are closed
All items available for purchase via Conquest points will be purchased by Honor Points.

Mists of Pandaria opens on September 25th

Valor points earned via quests,  daily random dungeons and Raids.  1000 max per week, 3000 cap
Conquest points earned through daily PVP random and Arenas  4000 cap on conquest points

---------------------------------------------

So what does that mean to the gold goblins?   Well life is going to be interesting for a bit.  With no cash conversion of points this time,  stockpiling points really give no added benefit.   The gear that will be purchasable with Justice points will be of lower level gear than obtained via Heroic Dungeons.   Valor points are used to upgrade gear or to purchase high level gear.  Both types of gear will require reputation with one of the factions in Mists.  Opportunities to resell JP gear (like the boots or wrists bracers from cataclysm) will be few at the start.

All of this news does not mean that JP will be worthless.   The lower level gear purchased from Justice points will be useful to get players ready for Heroic Dungeons that much quicker.   The required gear level for Heroics could be tricky to meet if you didn't throw in the occasional PVP gear pieces or crafted gear.   Extra Justice Points could easily add one or two pieces to your collection to put you over the top.

At any point Blizzard might change their mind and just reset everything.  Or go back to the Gold conversion method they have done in previous expansions.   Just keep this in mind before you spend hours focusing on having 20,000 Justice Points just to get them turned into 100g.   Moderation is a good thing.

Good Luck and Good Hunting
