Go To Sales

Mommar here.

Since this journal started many people have viewed different strategies on how to make large amounts of gold.   The reality of it is that making gold is not rocket science.  It's keeping a balance between a strict regiment of ventures.   Whether you are taking chances on a large ticket item,  or clicking your way through small transactions over a long period of time.

None of these strategies are rocket science.   They may seem that way from time to time,  when writers through numbers at you.   Buy this,  sell that,  spin around three times in Stormwind and hope that someone wants to pay you gold.

But each profession has a 'go to' item that continually sells.  Leatherworkers have armor patches,  Blacksmiths have belt buckles, tailors have bags that continually put gold in your gold goblin pockets.   Sometimes these profits seem small,  a miniscule portion of a larger wanted a fortune.  But this is the stabilizing function of your long term goals.   Any type of financial structure, whether it's stocks,  bonds,  gold market or even collecting pennies will be much more successful if you have a base to build the portfolio upon.

World of Warcraft is a game,  it should be treated as a game with winners and losers.   Making gold in this environment is just another way of keeping score.   In any game you will have your star players,  and you will have your durable rugged players that you know will be there every day you take the field.   Your 'go to'  sale items are those rugged players that might not bring the big money into your coffers,  when the score is counted can equal just as many points as the star players.

My current list of my 'go to' sales are.

Tailoring -  Netherweave Bag
Engineering - Ghost Iron Dragonling
Blacksmithing - Living Steel Belt Buckle
Inscription - Tiger Claw Inscription
Enchanting - Enchant Weapon - Windsong
Leatherworking - Stormscale Drape
Alchemy - Potion of Luck

One thing with all of these items you should notice.  None of them require the Spirits of Harmony to craft.  We have talked before about the value of these Spirits of Harmony and saving them for high profit items.   You also might have your favorite items that would fit into this baseline profit making idea.  Each server is different but the theory still holds it's truth.

Keep your baseline sales items strong as you delve into riskier ventures.   As your profits rise you will be much happier and when the high end items start to cool,  you will still be plugging along to your gold goblin goals.

Good luck and Good Hunting

I said 11th Slot... not that other word

Mommar checking in.

So I did some late night purchases.  Picked up some Netherweave,  Embersilk and Frostweave cloth
from last minute sellers.   A lot of things are going to depend on tomorrow and whether they roll
out a 11th character slot.

You would think that a 11th slot wouldn't be that important.  But many players grow attached to their creations,  and have a difficult time of deleting toons.  So 10 toons slots on a server gets filled pretty quickly.   By allowing players to roll an race (panda lovers have to wait til the gates of Pandaria open)
there will many new classes and races explored in the next 30 days.   That 11th slot will be filled
quickly by players wanting to try something new.  Goblins,  Worgen,  new races and new classes.

So just that fact should get your gold goblin radar going off.   More players and classes mean more
opportunities to sell bags,  and potions and enchants.   Jewelcrafting,  which had took a major hit as
of late production of profit will get a boost to recover.  And Inscription will get it's Glyphmas part 2
early.

So between when the servers go down for maintenance and the opening of 5.04 there are still chores to
finish.

1.  Update those add-ons.   Personally I use Curse.com for most of my updates but a few have to be
manually updated.   Having the most up to date add-ons will help with any bugs (don't forget to
check  the box that says "load out of date add-ons" when you first get started tomorrow afternoon).

2.  Do some research on your best spec.   Everything changes with the talent trees and abilities.  So be
prepared to have to learn some new rotations.  And enjoy getting to play with some new toys.
Wowinsider.com will have a good listing on the different changes in classes.  So spend a little time
to see what playstyle and talent tree works best for you.

3.  Be ready for delays.   This is one of those major patches that is pretty well guaranteed to have delays.
So logging in at 3 ET exactly to try to log on will only bring you frustration.   There is a small chance
it will go off without a hitch.  If it does then it will be a first.  Being patient will get you past the
     process with less gray hair.

4.  Don't forget it's a game.  Unless you're getting paid to play,  then get some air,  go and take a walk
beacause in the next week there will be lots to digest.   Losing your cool and ranting in trade chat
only makes kittens cry,  and some players laugh.

I'm looking forward to 5.04.   More money, more fun and ooo,  shiny charges with my Warrior.

Neatherweave Cloth: It's math time

One of the parts of writing a journal/blog is to present my logic of why I do things.  Why I invest
in certain items as well as choose not to invest in others.   Granted I'm not correct in everything (at any point you have my permission to remind me of the great pyrite debacle).   Next week I will be looking at all the cloth and it's investment potential come Mists expansion,  but i felt that netherweave deserved it's own look.

Currently stacks of [Netherweave Cloth] sell from 5g to 10g (anything higher I tend to ignore because it's not within a safety parameter I've set for investing).   There ends up being four different investment possibilities for the cloth.    Tailors can make both Bags (16 slot [Netherweave Bag]) or the (18 slot [Imbued Netherweave Bag]).  Mid level patterns can also be crafted for toons leveling ([Netherweave Pants] for example).   Also the benefits of crafting these mid level pants and tailoring items is that they can be sent to an enchanter to be disenchanted into enchanting materials ([Arcane Dust],  [Large Prismatic Shard] and [Greater Planar Essence]).  All three of these can be sold on the AH for decent profits (ranging from 2g to 10g depending on your server).

The third and fourth investment opportunities are to sell them in their raw form.   With the Mists expansion there will be another shortage of materials from previous expansions.   Burning Crusade will be 2 expansions behind, and with the accelerated leveling process,  less and less time will be spent leveling and farming in Outlands.  So that will set less and less opportunities to grab cloth from mobs in the Outlands area.   Stacks of Netherweave in raw stacks or in bolts will be in higher demand.   High demand and low supplies always drive up the prices
of items.

So here is the math I promised you.  All of these numbers are based from possible projections as well as numbers from The Undermine Journal

First lets look at just purchasing and flipping stacks of Netherweave

(stack of 20) (Cost 10g)

-  Potential sale price 15-35 per stack
-  Potential profit 150% to 350%
-  Easiest investment/profit for non tailors

Next Bag Creation

(20 cloth (10g)  + 1 run thread (.50s )

- Total investment per bag 10.50g
- Potential sale price 25g (rough estimate,  with the release of cataclysm some bags sold at 35g per)
- Potential profit percentage 250% to 350%

(60  [Netherweave Cloth]  (10g per stack) + 2x [Netherweb Spider Silk] (6g per ) + 8 [Arcane Dust]
(2 gold per) + [Greater Planar Essence] (12g per)

-  Total Investment per bag - 70g
-  Potential sale price - 150+
-  Potential Profit Percentage 100%+
-  (one caveat with sales.  Many people will not want to pay a premium price for 2 extra slots)

Tailoring Options (example)

(30 [Netherweave Cloth] (10g per stack) + 1 run thread (50s)

-  Total Investment per item 10.50g
-  Potential Sale Price 20g or less
-  Potential profit Percentage 75% of less
(caveat with sales is this pattern is heavily used to level tailors.  So it will be listed often on the AH)

(5 cloth)

-Total Investment - 2.5g
-Potential Sale Price 10-15g
- Potential Profit Percentage 400% to 600%

Enchanting/Disenchanting options (requires tailoring/enchanting combination or outsourced profession)

(30 [Netherweave Cloth] (10g per stack) + 1 run thread (50s)

-  Total Investment per item 10.50g
-  Potential Disenchanting sale price
-  2-10   [Arcane Dust]   (4g per arcane dust assumed) = 8g to 40g )
-  1-5  [Greater Planar Essence]  (10g per Essence = 10g to 50g )
-  1 [Large Prismatic Shard] (12g per Shard)
-  Potential Profit percentage (-25% to 400%)
(caveat is what you end up having an item disenchant into.   Assuming low amount of materials)

All of this math is very dependent on your server and it's expectations.   If you have a high farmer population then the prices will be driven lower.   Or a high new character generation,  then bags will become more popular and thus be driven higher.   The enchanting/disenchanting options become the biggest gamble.  Possibility exist to purchase the Netherweave items from the AH at inexpensive prices and resell them or Disenchant them into their base materials.

One of the biggest suggestions that I offer is to keep your inventory liquid.   Do not be in a hurry to craft the bags currently.   1 bag = 1 slot,  and locks you into selling just that item.  Keeping your stashed inventory in either bolt form or in stack form with give you the flexibility to take advantage of how the market fluctuates.

My current investment strategy is to stay with Netherweave/Imbued Netherweave bags as well as selling stacks of Netherweave cloth.  But if the market calls for it,  I want to adjust accordingly my sales priorities.
