Bid on items Tuesday morning before a hard reset (don’t do this on a 15 minute server restart). The reason for doing this is that auctions continue to 'roll' regardless of server inactivity. So if you have an auction with 4 hours left at the time that servers go into an 8 hour restart then your auction will have expired by the time the servers come back up.
Here's a post when the blog was first starting out that makes bidding fast and efficient.

Yeah. He waited with this post to let it get passed the maintenance :)
Also remember that it works the other way around as well. That is when you are selling, the maintenance will cause some shifts, most notably that the AH is getting empty on Tuesday evening, probably of people not bothering with putting up auctions.
That, is exactly the time to do some auctions as you'll be able to price them higher than normal, due to lower competition.

Of course the opposite applies too: don't post auctions that will expire during the Tuesday maintenance window.

Oh and also try to post some auctions the evening before the restart. But make sure you list them for 24hours or more to ensure your auctions don't end in the maintenance.
