We're approximately 2 weeks away (give or take depending on the whims of the powers that be) so I wanted to take a look at individual professions.
Up on the block first is Jewelcrafting. Jewelcrafting has been hit or miss with Mists of Pandaria. It's a steady money maker for man, but that big burst of gold that occurred both during Wrath and Cataclysm with the shuffles being available wasn't there during Mists of Pandaria.
This major change in Jewelcrafting operation made the Jewelcrafting business rough from the start. By now you should have a majority if not all of the cuts. At the end of any patch time frame gems tend to start to drift down to a low profit rate. Seeing the main four stat gems (agi, str, int, stam) dropping down to below 60-70g per gem.
This becomes the prime area to look for those bargain basement deals for flipping. Patch 5.2 is going to introduce a large amount of new socketable gear. And the demand is not going to be just for the pure stat gems but many of the mix gems (str-crt) for example. Figuring out which ones will be in demand on your server from the start will be paramount to becoming top goblin on the server.
With 5.2 epic meta gems are going to be introduced. This caused a tremble in the Jewelcrafting force because it made it appear that the previous met gems would become worthless. But keep in mind that the
Quest line to obtain the epic gem won't be completed by everyone. Players on many servers won't be able to find groups either guild or looking for a raid that will be able to complete all of the requirements for the raid quest line. This should keep the meta gem market healthy as players are able to obtain head pieces requiring sockets and gems.
The key to Jewelcrafting with 5.2 is going to be diversity and a specific attack structure. Just throwing up gems will be both a waste of time and blanks that won't gain you anything. Adding non saleable gems such as the parry-stamina gems will just have you posting up items that will not sell. Keeping your straight stat gems cranking out as long as they are at your profit level (I like 30% or higher myself) and your mix gems. Need to know what gems are going to be the best for you? Now I bet you think we forgot PVP gems? They have been the missing link to many sales. The PVP resilience vs PVP power has caused a lot of confusion. The easiest way to look at PVP gems is that most players won't stack resilience unless they are hardcore PVPers (arenas and battlegrounds). Most pvp players will continue to add PVP power gems with some resilience. So adding the main stat-pvp power to your listing arsenal should add more profits to your future pocketbook.
Just keep in mind that you are in control of what to place up. Drive the market instead of letting the market drive you. If a market is weak, flip that market to a higher price. Don't get caught in an auto pilot of what is selling and what isn't selling. A gold goblin controls their market with an iron fist, and a purple Jewelcrafting kit.
