How Does Free Gear Effect The Market?

As a Gold Goblin,  free gear is the bane of my financial existence.  When I'm at my most goblinesque I would prefer to sell everything to a player,  including the Under-Roos they wear with Garrosh's face imprinted on the tucas (I said tucas,   we're a family friendly blog here thank you).

Players continue into the Mists of Pandaria,  leveling up alternates and getting them placed in whichever skill they choose them to have.  Whether they are raiding toons,  support professions or just so they can do a couple of pet battles for the fun of it.   Each has to be geared accordingly.   With each patch Blizzard makes the gear more and easier to obtain.  At level 90 with a few Valor Tokens a player can drift their toon over to the Isle of Thunder and get themselves a Epic Lvl Belt and Neckpiece.   With the new patch just a few weeks away another area becomes open and the more epic gear will be handed to those that help with the storyline of Garroshs' fall from the throne.

Where free gear does effect the high end players need to purchase certain items,  this doesn't eliminate them as possible sales.  Where belts and neck pieces are given out like Chiclets,  weapons and bracers and other gear areas are sorely lacking.   Players still choose many times to purchase items for their alternate toons instead of grinding out reputation for the more powerful items.

So where each patch introduces more freebies,  keep to your plan and look for the kinks in the free loot web.  Don't forget also your ability to flip/produce the enchants that will be in demand as well.  The more free gear that is bought out,  the more need to enhance that gear with new power and shiny gloss.

Free Items can adjust your plan of attack when it comes to making gold.  But it shouldn't knock you off your game plan.  Smart gold goblins know that when one door closes,  you just kick it open again.

Taking Advantage of 5.2 PVP Gear Changes

Selling to PVP players is a niche market for some servers.  On other servers it's a cash cow that can be untapped until you obtain the right knowledge.

With patch 5.2 there are some major changes in the gear and how it effects your PVP score.

  • Dreadful will be the crafted gear (ilvl 458) -
  • Malevolent will be the gear obtained via honor points (ilvl 483)
  • Tyrannical is obtained via conquest points in 5.2 (after obtaining 27000 conquest points will be available via honor points in 5.3)
  • Elite Tyrannical is obtained via Conquest points after 27000 conquest points in the season)
The big change will be there will no longer be any rating limit to obtain gear.   Many players were unable to upgrade pieces of gear because they either obtain high ratings in the arena.   More gear means more chances for upgrades and enchants.

That artificial line that was at 2200 stopped many players from capping off their honor/conquest points.   Giving access to the higher gear will allow players to enjoy the high level PVP without getting as frustrated because they are not as accomplished as others are.

This also should spark an increase in PVP stat gems and pure stat gems.   It also may bring back players who were burnt out on the storyline content and just need to open up a can of whoop butt on someone.

All in all I like these changes if they stay at this level.   And should add a large amount of gold in the right pockets if the Gold Goblins are prepared.   Buying inexpensive materials for enchants now and belt buckles
(Either the raw Living Steel needed for production or the belt buckles themselves.).

Look at what the population of your realm feels about PVP.  If it is an active server then jumping on this opportunity is a no brainer.  If your realm is less attractive when it comes to PVP you may want to just dip your foot in the water and see what occurs.   This is where your research on the warcraft forums can be very beneficial.   A little knowledge can go a long way.

Sales Triage

Mommar here.

If you have ever skinned your knee or played a sport you understand a little bit about triage and prioritizing
wounds.   Treating a small cut before treating a more impactful wound doesn't help in the long run.  It could cause the one wound to become infected and worsen.

The same thing can be looked at in your sales.   Any person who sales they never lose money is either selling you something or playing things safe.    Being a gold goblin sometime entails risks.  High risk can mean high reward.  But it also can cause wound that need to be treated.   And too many wounds your empire can start a downward spiral.

This is where Triage economics can come into play.   If your seeing your fortune not growing or even diminishing you should perform a short quick diagnosis to the problem.   Where exactly are you losing gold at?  What items are not selling quickly and profitably?   Which of your items is sitting on the shelf only to be liquidated at the end of their value life?

Triggering a quick fix to these can cause your downward spiral to turn around.   If you are listing items at too high,  being dependent on quoted prices from different websites.  Look to see whether your economy can support that.   Are you cutting raw gems into pure stat gems (+str,  +int, + agi) only to see them sell low and get undercut continually.   Perhaps cutting mixed gems (+main attribute and +secondary attribute) can provide you with more opportunity for sales and profit.

Identifying where a wound is and fixing it quickly can keep your sales from becoming infected,  allowing you to continue at full speed instead of languishing slowly from diseased income.
