Loot Rule changes in MOP

While looking at the new loot rules for Looking for Raid   A thought that blitzed through my head was how this would start to effect high end enchant mats.

The new rules basically will allow more direct options to the party.  And making spec specific items available to the winner of the random role.   For an extended period of time this will make less "junk" roles for items that no one can use per run.   If a hunter wins the role,  then a hunter specific item will be chosen from the loot table for that boss.   If a warrior tank wins the roll,  then a tanking specific item will be chosen.   (for more information look at the detailed description from ghostcrawler here).

So how will this effect enchanting materials?  Once Jewelcrafters/Enchanters discovers the next obsidium/elementium shuffle, creating a large amount of the low and mid level Mists of Pandaria enchanting materials that will be found on the AH.   The new rules begin to sound like they will have a large change on the high end materials.

Currently if noone in a raid wants an item,   and an enchanter is in the party,  the Disenchant option becomes available and the DE'd material is rolled on equally.   Usually either being added to the guild bank for later enchanting needs,  or sold on the open market.   Adding more materials to purchase and to sell/resell.

With the more exacting changes,  the Auction house will see less of the high level enchanting materials.   Putting many of the high level materials at a premium price (more than they were when the first maelstrom crystals and heavenly shards became available in cataclysm).

Since these right now will only effect Looking for raid runs,  it won't have as much of an effect at the beginning of MOP.   Epic enchants weren't released until later patches in every warcraft expansion.  But ultimately it will have a shift in the cost of enchants,  and the availability of enchanting materials.

How can the greedy goblin take advantage of this?   The first thing that an enchanter will end up doing is to DE everything they can from MOP. Quest rewards can develop a large cache of enchanting materials for sale.  If your goal is pure money then placing as many of these items up on the AH for sale should net a high profit.   Later on when the mass rush to level professions have subsided you can repurchase materials to level your own crafting.

The other option is to use the enchanting materials gained from disenchanting your quest rewards and random drops to level up your professions,  then selling the excess for profit on the AH or as materials for purchased enchants.

As the beta starts to reveal itself more,   the strategies that are built now will propel you to your goals
and to higher stacks of gold.

Good luck and good hunting

  1. Per the post today on mmo-champion, the Epic crystal (Sha Crystal) will be able to be crafted from three Ethereal Shards. This should mean that the Sha Crystal is actually easier to obtain in MoP than it currently is in Cata since it will be able to be made from three rare drops in regular dungeons. Who know how all of that will change as release draws closer however.
