Not Enough Loot On My Hands

If your like me,  you are knee deep in killing mobs,  looting mobs and running around the Timeless isle looking for more items to loot.

Also if you are like me,  you have a plethora of extra Timeless Silk Robes,  Plate bracers and  items that will never see the light of use.  I"m up to 4 toons that are geared mainly through these drops with another two that have yet to hit 90 that are sitting with full gear in their bank.  One thing I ended up with a large extra quantity of are the silk versions of the 'packages'.

Luckily my one and only cloth wearer is also my Enchanter.   So basically each time I get one of these Silk packages I send it to my Warlock,  open it and see if by the off chance it is an upgrade.  If it is then bonus I DE the other item for that lovely lovely Sha Crystal.  Vice Versa if it isn't an upgrade.

There is a limit on who can DE what.   A plate wearer can only open up the plate packages,  leather wearers limited to leather etc.   This also means they are the only ones that can DE the leftovers from these armor types.  Still gotta love free Sha Crystals.

The other item that seems to drop a lot is the Technique glyphs that are used by Scribes for the new recipes.  The strange thing is that they can be looted by everyone (not just scribes like normal profession recipes have been.)  I have not run into the problem of a non scribe needing on the recipe yet (you want to hear someone screaming,  wait til that happens in an instance).

A friend of mine was wanting to know how to obtain the Sky Golem pattern.  Explaining to them that they needed to just kill mobs in Pandaria they spent an hour killing them.   My assumption was that they had already maxxed out their Engineering.  Low and behold I found out they had not maxxed out the profession.   After being the nice gold goblin and sending them some materials to finish up the profession it took them 10 kills for the pattern to drop.

But there is a dark side to all of these 'new' drops and items.  With 476 gear basically being given away with a smirk and a smile on the island.  Crafted gear is in the tank.  Weapons still sell decently but the majority of major armor pieces are not selling as well as they should.    They do sell but not at the speed they should.  The same thing with some servers and PVP gear.  The easier that gear is to obtain,  the less demand there ends up being for high level crafted gear.  LFR and Flex has changed the game when it comes to Keybashing your way through an encounter to scoop up the loot.

Still my faithful gold friends panic not.  There are plenty of opportunities to get some well earned cash.  You just need to be smarter (and handsomer) than the rest.  Knowing your lines of sales and keeping a good close firm grip on the amount of investment you have with materials.  Do this and you have a good chance of buying that little plot of land you want on the Timeless Isle.

Sorry,   the sea area is already claimed by me.  I'm building my boat dock there.

The Green Parade

Mommar here.

There has been an increase in green item drops the further that Mists of Pandaria matures as an expansion pack.  When players were going through their quests at the beginning of the expansion one or two green drops were the norm.  Now that many players are finishing up their dailies on the Isle of Thunder,  more lower ilvl items have become available on the open market.

The normal thought process has been to just instantly send these items off to either your own personal enchanter for conversion into materials,  or at best vendoring them for gold.   Some would cherry pick looking for certain items to drop on the AH for resell with conversion either into enchanting materials or gold for the rest.

Many players will pick and choose higher ilvl items so that they can advance into instances quicker.  Once they reach maximum level they are more apt to either craft their own items or purchase crafted items to reach the intended gear level.

I found myself going into autopilot mode when it came to gear and just sending it to my enchanter for conversion.   But the AH has been overpopulated with inexpensive materials all the way up to Sha Crystals.   This has also dropped the cost of many of the middle ground gear enchants (Colossus,  Windsong etc).   A decent profit could be squeaked out between the difference of the materials purchased and the enchants themselves.

But I decided to change my practice a little bit and taking the time to list the greens I had on the AH at reasonable prices.  Having TradeSkillManager on my add-ons list gave me a listing of the approximate disenchant value of an item.   Disenchanting value is an inexact total of what would be obtained,  so listing an item for up to three times the amount on the Auction House could net some decent sales.   Even if one or two of these sold it would raise my profit levels higher than if I just automatically disenchanted the item or vendored it.

So why would this work?   Are players really buying these items to upgrade gear?   The short answer would be yes.   Where I listed 40 items,  Five of them sold at Three times the value if I had just processed them normally.  I listed again and another first were purchased.  After three days I went ahead and processed any of the green items that were at a lower ilvl than 410.   This netted me again a larger amount of profit and continued to list the weapons and higher level gear.   Ultimately after a week of this I finished processing the rest of the items.

This would seem like a round about way of obtaining both gold and enchanting materials.  But with the Enchanting market being soft on many servers,  alternate methods need to be placed to process gear while still obtaining good margins of profit.

The other market that I seemed to miss was the market for transmogrified items.   Where an item might not be powerful stat wise,  it may be the design that some players are looking for.  Helms and weapons are especially useful to players looking for specific views of their character.  So before you look to just DE that item,  check on how it is viewed with your character and see if it looks interesting.   Where some helms are just plain ugly as sin,  certain helms and weapons can bring high value prices when they are in demand.

MOP Prep: Prepping the Farmer

On the master list of making gold in World of Warcraft,  farming is the second easiest way of making gold right behind questing.   It can become a very simple way of collecting materials to sell either to cartel members or to the open market.   The only cost is your time and the occasional repair bill if you farm at the wrong place or time (PVP servers are especially nasty at this).

Any of the classes can be adequate farmers.   As long as you're able to get to a place that is abundant with materials to sell,  you can become a farmer with just a flick of a mental switch.  Where it isn't required to have a dedicated farmer for your personal cartel,  it gives you a leg up on the competition when materials are not available.   Being able to farm items as you quest in new lands gives a new wrinkle into your collection of profits.

When looking at your farming structure you have normally three different types of farmers.   The Herbalist,  the Miner and the Skinner.   In my structure I've added a 4th one which is my disenchanter/item hunter.   The reason that I believe there should be a distinction in our setup is that farming lower level instances can be very rewarding for both enchanting materials,  as well as vanity items to sell on the Auction House.  My Disenchanter/Hunter is my Blood Elf Warlock.   It's important to have your enchanter be able to AOE mobs in low level instances instead of having to kill one or two at a time.   Druids or Mages are extra strong in these areas.

Currently my setup for my farmers consists of my hunter class having the skinning and mining professions.   My other farmer that handles my disenchantments and herbalist duties is a Druid.    Druids are especially beneficial for Herbalism due to the fact they stay in flight form to pick herbs.   This gives you the ability to be onto the next farming spot while the competition has to wait the 3 seconds to activate their mount (add to this reaction time and you have a good 4-5 seconds head start from the competition).  When areas such as Wintergrasp were heavily farmed for materials,  this gave me almost an unfair advantage over the other farming classes.   Also included was the ability to switch into melee (Cat form and Bear form) as well as having a Boomkin setup (Thunderchicken) for those times I needed to defend my routes.

Your mining and skinning toon selection becomes more of a personal choice of play style than any added advantage.   Hunters,  Druids and Warlocks have continual longer ranges for their attacks,  plus with AOE capabilities they can go through multiple enemies quickly.   Warriors tend to be the weakest in farming due to the need for up close combat.    For personal selection the Death Knight can be one of the strongest farmers,  or the weakest.  Play style becomes a factor with many of the classes.

Dedicated Famers gives you a good boost in your time management and much needed materials for your other crafters.  Whether you have all four farming disciplines covered.  At minimum having a farmer that is linked to what other crafting professions you have with other toons.   Having a Blacksmith becomes stronger with a Miner.   An alchemy business becomes that much more lucrative with an herbalist in tow.

This is where I usually break from the norm.   Profession bags can become expensive.   Each level of bags tends to become more and more exorbitant in costs.    The High slot bags can cost 1000 of gold based on supply and demand.

But if you lower your amount of slots a good amount of savings can be made.   The [Triple Reinforced Bag] (36 slots) costing 1500g.   Looking at one of the lower bags,  the 28 slot Trapper's Traveling Pack can be found at half the cost.   Bag slots were important before Guild Banks became available.  Now the larger amount of slots becomes more of a convenience than a necessity.

Your farmer should be prepared from the start with the magical Gnomish Army Knife.  Besides bags this is going to be your best investment.   Buying enough now while they are inexpensive will benefit you since they will rise in prices with Mist of Pandaria.

The biggest preparation you can do is to have your material farming routes planned out.   Wowhead always has good information on where certain items can be found.  Whether it's a weapon or an herb,  players are your best assets to finding routes to quickly obtain product materials.   A combination of Knowledge and time will put your profits on the upturn.

Farming is going to continue to be strong,  and setting your mind to a specific structure will allow you to pick,  process and obtain gold at your own pace.
