Today is the start of a new gold making series, and no this isn't an april fool's prank like last year. I'm going to show you how to invest, starting now, in order to make one million gold in cataclysm. That's right, one million gold.
You can join the forum discussion on cataclysm speculation as well.
Let the lessons begin!
Tip #1: Herbs and Goblins (Plus bags!)
Specialization bags for herbing as well as straight netherweave bags are going to be huge sellers for Goblins (the netherweave bags for Worgen as well but they would probably prefer skinning bags instead of herbing bags!). All herbs from the old world and outland are going to be huge sellers for people leveling their alchemy, and since Goblins get an alchemy bonus you can bet your boots that many will pick up herbing along with alchemy.
How can you start preparing for this? Start buying the mats on the ah, even for full price now (but not more) and stockpile like crazy. So you'll want herbs, netherweave cloth, and some profession bags. You can also focus on infinite dust and frostweave cloth for frostweave bags, since those will most likely sell almost as well as their 16 slot cousins.
There is no way that you will be able to stockpile enough.... so go nuts. I'm going to invest huge percentages of my income into these items, in the hopes that inflation and insane demand early on will make me literally a million gold from cataclysm. I would think that if you have 100,000 to 200,000 gold ready to invest you can do the same, and if you get really lucky on your purchases do something similar with only 50,000 gold. As long as you have the bank space and make the right purchases you are going to make a killing.

That's a great tip bobreaze for making gold in the expansion, but how does it build money for you in cataclysm using the money you have currently? The whole idea behind this series of tips is to turn the money you have now into gold later through investing and making use of natural inflation.

I don't have a tip but rather a question that I have discussed with friends on several occasions over the last month and which we have been unable to resolve.
We suspect that the value of many Northrend items will decline in advance of or after the expansion. The market for flasks, for example, will probably crash. We were less sure about what would happen to the prices of other items, particularly those used for leveling professions.
Which items do you expect to increase in value? Which do you expect to decline in value? When do you expect prices to begin changing?

Any specific herbs come to your mind? Or will it be all herbs? I guess some herbs will be more "usefull" for people leveling Alchemy/Inscription

Not sure I fully understand the tip since you mentioned both bags and herbs. You said to stockpile 'mats'...but do you mean old world herbs or mats for bags or both? The comment that Goblins will probably pick up herb and alchemy both semi contradicts the huge predicted inflation for old world herbs on the AH after xpac, if many goblins will be picking the herbs themselves.

well, even with a gather proffesion to go with alch, people can get lazy to pick them up and also considering the thousands of goblins that will be made and probably with herb and alch, You can always buy more herbs but there is a very limited ammount of herbs to farm in those first few weeks.
Also a question for markco, You said you were going to buy all of the low level proffesion items for every one of them, But not everything after in one of your posts. Can you please explain why not atleast some more levels?

Does this only apply to horde side then? Or will Alliance also be interested in buying herbs?
