You Can't Make Gold????

One thing in the game of World of Warcraft that will never change is the quest for gold.   Good or bad players have an opinion on how to make gold.   'It's too hard....' can be heard everywhere as some players expect to be handed gold in bags.

Mists of Pandora streamlined making gold with its basic idea.   If you want to make basic gold you can finish dailies and quests.  If you want to make stupid amounts of gold you can finish dailies,  run instances and raids.  Making obscene amounts of gold will have you playing the auction house.

What making gold will not do is allow you to be lazy.   This may sound harsh but it really does grind my gears to hear people say they can't make gold.   Take this for instance:

• Timeless Isle offers the quest A Timeless Question which drops 45g into your pocket for answering a question.
• Running your first daily instance drops 15g into your pocket for less than 15 minutes of running. This doesn't include any gear you disenchant or vendor.
• Running a scenario drops another 15g into your pocket with the possibility of more gear to vendor or disenchant
• Farming formats (skinning, mining, etc.) on timeless isle and all over Pandaria is easy.  Filling up your bag for materials takes less time than it does to complain about how difficult it is to make gold.

Even at level 90 all of the old quests are worth double the gold.  Running through Northrend content from the Lich King expansion and the revamped world of Cataclysm adds even more opportunities to place gold in your pocket.

So every time you hear someone complain about making gold being hard,  smile and just keep on doing what puts gold into your pocket.  Working smarter and putting in the time and effort to not just enjoy the game but enjoy having enough gold to buy anything you like.

Targeting Sales

Mommar here.

Every so often I will be traveling around one of the major cities having trade chat open.  Normally it's busy with bad jokes or requests for professions.   But one topic seems to pop up every week.

Player A lists a large ticket item.  In this case it was a Jeweled Onyx Panther Mount for 75k

Player B starts to complain because it is 'too much' and he wants it for 15k

Player A defends that the item costs more to craft and that he is being silly

Player B defends that he bought 5 last week for only 10k (righhhht)

Player C chirps in to choose a side.

Nothing gets solved but everyone looks silly.   Player A has taken his eye off the ball of his sale.  Player B does not check his homework to see the crafted value of an item and why it costs this much.

In the end no one wins.  But this is easily solved by one understanding.

Player A needed to realize who his target audience was.   Player B would never be convinced to pay 75k for a mount.  When his argument started with 'it is just a mount' that was the immediate salvo that he didn't take an interest in being a mount collector.  Meaning that no amount of cajoling is going to convince him that he needs this mount.

Player A should have quickly come to the understanding that he would be wasting his time trying to convince Player B that the pricing is correct.  The best course of action would have been to walk away for a time being (because Player B would probably continue to announce the mount was too expensive in Trade for a bit) and attempt his sale later in the day.

I used to work in technical support for a software company.  One of our jobs was the sell products to people who called in.  I was very good at it for one specific reason.  I learned how to spot a potential customer within the first 3 minutes of a call.  Very rarely can you convert an upset customer into a positive sale.  Solving a problem for someone will allow them to become much happier with what you are doing,  allowing you to convert this into a sales experience.  Spotting those sales targets is less about luck and more about giving someone a positive experience.

So keep this in mind when you're tempted to get into an argument about something you're selling because you are 'right.  Being 'right' doesn't put gold in your pockets.  Walking away and adjusting your target will allow you to both make gold,  and still be 'right'.

More of the pieces to crafting and itemization have come out into the open for the Warlords of Draenor expansion.  Though developer Q&A,  tweets and interviews players are slowly getting a picture of just how new gear will be itemized and obtained.

The big change will be the idea that a 'one size fits all' gear itemization will come into play.   The five main pieces (helm, chest, legs, hands, shoulders) will change stats based on what specialization you use at that point.  In past articles we have discussed just how this will cut down the opportunities to sell multiple sets to players through crafting.

The other points that have been brought up is that Jewelcrafting and enchanting will end up having less items to sell that end up being more powerful.  Even today we have only 1 or 2 enchants for each piece.  Bracers having three enchants became a luxury in sales.

It was just revealed that with these changes in gear stats that the enchants would not end up changing with the gear.  Does this mean that there will be different types of enchants instead of your standard stat enhancement add-ons?  Does the one size fit each specialization still exist for enchanters and armor patches?

Obviously there will be future questions answered as we get closer to the beta reveal for Warlords of Draenor.  One thing that players can do now is to tighten up their techniques for sales.  Players are already hoarding their gold in the expectation that gold making will become much more difficult.  I would prefer to look at it as the players are going to have to sharpen their abilities and become that much better.

Last night I was in a raid with the third wing of the Seige of Org.  On Ventrillo there was a common grumbling about how Blizzard was being a pain for making some of these raids more difficult.  Falling Silence was my best answer I mentally ticked off just how much raiding had changed between Burning Crusades and the Mists expansion.  The same is easily said for making gold in World of Warcraft.

Making gold in World of Warcraft is not difficult.  But neither will the good fairy show up on your doorstep and deliver a cubic ton of gold coins for you to buy whatever your heart desires.  A few techniques that are honed to a razor sharpness can put gold into your pocket and help build a solid foundation.  Once the foundation is built you can expand and build your temple to in game gold as slowly or as quickly as you want.  Even with these future changes in crafting this still exists.  The best idea of making gold don't work hard, work smarter.

So until we have more information for Warlords,  this is the perfect time to not just sharpen your raiding skills,  but sharpen up your gold making skills.  Every player is a potential sale and every transaction puts you that much closer to being in control of your own gold printing machine.

When I started out playing World of Warcraft I knew nothing.   As I played I obtained knowledge through trial and error.  Some ideas worked,  others didn't.   That is just the nature of any game.  The more mistakes I made the more I was able to decipher what seemed like a large puzzle and got better and better.

One of the things that was always on my to do list was many of the old world raids.  With starting my Wow Journey at the beginning of The Burning Crusade expansion I missed raiding in AQ20 and AQ40.  I also missed some of the raiding at the end of Burning Crusade as players travelled into The Black Temple.

So now that Mists of Pandora are starting to wind down I've been visiting some of these old raids.  Some of them to finish up reputations that I missed.  Places like The Black Temple also has given me some raw materials such as Netherweave Cloth and Disenchant Fodder for Arcane Dust.  

Now you might say to yourself why are you running all of this old stuff?  I want the big gold makers.  I want the pets and the gear that I can flip.  Running AQ20 and AQ40 usually takes me about an hour.  Running Black Temple takes me about the same amount of time.  Both of these if you combine the gold made through the mobs,  Selling trash items and BOP Purples that I cannot use for personal transmogrification and selling the raw materials I net between 800 and 1000 for that hour.  With many players complaining that they don't have enough gold,  you can live on 1000g for an entire week of repairs.

This doesn't preclude players from running the pet drop instances such as Naxxramas or even Raids found in the Outlands.   The key to many of these raids is which ones will give you not just a chance for big pet sales but also for the incidental sale items that can be acquired quickly.  Raw Materials will again be in style to sell with the next expansion and players looking to add to their crafter armies.

Today is the server reset.  So the next time your bored and sitting in a home city complaining.  Grab your nearest portal,  run a quick solo raid and then add some more profits into your portfolio.

If you followed the Warlords of Draenor discussion since Blizzcon, you are on the cusp of a large change with how players will gear themselves.

Without getting involved in all the specifics it boils down to everyone will lug around one set of gear for all of the different role builds.  If you are a tank then when you switch to a dps set you will end up having all of your base armor switch stats to match the chosen talents.

This is a complete change from the original setup that players who ran both a tank and dps build would have to drag both their sets of armor for any raiding or instances.  This also provided twice the chances to sell gear to the same player.

A change like this will also take the emphasis on multiple sales from the base gear (hands,  chest,  helmet etc) and place it on the 'accessories' that can allow more customization.  Rings, Wrist and even feet will end up taking the forefront on demand for new manufactured equipment.

We also know from the new changes that there will be less jewel slots in equipment but their will be more powerful gems.  With the removal of hit, dodge and parry from the chance tables there will be less gems to manufacture.  This again will create less opportunity to sell but make it that much more important to obtain as much gold as possible per sale.

If you have not already diversified your abilities with your crafters now is the perfect time to start setting your army of gold makers for the upcoming storm.  Your jewelcrafters and any professions than can create addon items will become important for future sales.

Details on this massive gear stat change are still being revealed.  This includes whether there will be a reworking of previous content gear or if it will affect only the new WOD gear.  A change in how stats and quests was finished during the Cataclysm expansion and allowed gearing up for content much faster overall.

Keep this in mind when you start looking to invest in future gear.  Players will be burning through the old content at increasingly faster rates.  This means players will spend less and less on their alts for the 'best' gear and be more concerned with appearances (transmog) or getting to the highest level with the WOD expansion.

5 Tips To Survive Cross Realm Raids

The latest PTR (Player Test Realm) just popped up on the boards.  The biggest change was that Blizzard has created it's own cross realm version of Oqueue.

If you have not used this mighty addon yet,  go out and download it.  It makes Flex raiding much easier because it adds your name into a swarm between servers allowing you to get involved quicker than just waiting for a raid to pop up on your own server.

But as always,  there are a few tips that will help with surviving these cross realm raids with your sanity in tact.

1.   Know Your Role and Shut Your Mouth

The odds are that if you jump into an Oqueue raid then you will be with 13 or more strangers.  They do not know how good (or how bad) you are.  The only time that I would suggest saying anything is that if you do not know what you are supposed to do.  This doesn't mean that Oqueue flex raids are the best source of learning what your role is.  That's what LFR is for.  But if you are a tank,  then tank.  If you are dps then soak up those puddles in Flex wing 3 and say thank you very much.  If you get involved with strategy and 'my guild does it this way' you will only irritate people and the raid will break up that much quicker.

2.   Your Raid Will Fail At Times

No raid is perfect.  Someone will probably die in the raid.  Having your finger on the abandon button only will drive you bonkers.  Repair bills are part of the game.  If your raid starts to wipe continually on the same thing over and over again.  Then look for the eject button and move onto a better group.

3.   Oqueue will probably flag you PVP.

This doesn't occur all the time.  But 7 out of 10 you will be transported and flagged PVP.  Too many times have I ended up right dead smack in the middle of 10 or so enemies all flagged and looking to put uncomfortable items into my body part.  If this happens then just look for your happy flight path and stay there for a while.  Where you can do some farming,  being in a raid keeps you from being able to complete most quests.  So sit around and chat with your new found raid buddies and get a lay of the land.

4.   When Looking For Raids in Oqueue,  Look For Raids With 6 or More People Already Joined.

This tip will not make everyone happy.  Mostly because those raids that are looking for 'fast clears' need quality people.  You probably are quality simply because you read this journal.  But your awesome abilities might also be carrying someone that is not as good as you.  The Oqueue gives a lot of information including how many are in the queue,  and even how many wipes on bosses have occurred with that raid group.   If there is a lot of wipes and no boss kills then reconsider whether it's going to be the group for you.

5.  Be Geared For The Content

If your new shiny toon is running around in ilvl 502 gear,  you are not prepared for flex 4 Garrosh.  Sorry to say that you will be probably dragging down the group and cause more problems.  The odds are that you won't even be invited into the group.  For me a good idea of what ilvl to expect is

Wing 1 496+
Wing 2 510
Wing 3 515
Wing 4 525

Of course your mileage may of course.  your 502 gear might be awesome and can solo everything.  These are tips and not laws.  But being a good part of a team,  even a pickup team like flex raiding is to be prepared to carry your weight.  Everyone has been in a raid where there is someone dragging the raid down.  If you look to your left and right and cannot find the person who is dragging the raid down,  there is a good chance it is you.

Bonus tip

Mind your tongue.  The temptation is to let loose your four letter word prowess when your angry for that last failure.  It is frustrating to crash and burn in something that not just last week you cleared quickly.  No one is motivated by calling someone a *(*&( nub.  If you feel that your point cannot be made by calling everyone your entire cursing repertoire then you are taking this game far too seriously.  Unless you are getting paid to play and players are taking money directly out of your physical pocket,  it might be time to go and play some Angry Birds for a little bit.

Just keep these tips in mind when you go into your next flex run and enjoy the game.  It's just that a game and not real life.

Farming Darkmoon Faire

Darkmoon Fair Island opened up its portals yesterday to the lack of fan fare that I have talked about before. With the removal of obtaining xp for the various daily activities and quests,  it has become less of a focus for many players leveling their toon.

But one thing to keep in mind when you decide whether to visit the faire for the next week.   With the new expansion the odds are very good that the items will be added to the pet menagerie.  Having that stockpile of Darkmoon Prize Tickets will get you ahead of everyone else in being able to sell the various pets from the Island.

This is also a great time to level your professions for your alternates.  The +5 points that you can obtain each weekly visit can save you not just time but gold as well.  Do not forget to level the cooking and First Aid as well.

With the two bosses on the island being in rotation (Moonfang around every hour, Darkmoon Rabbit on an approximately 36 hour respawn).  Both drop pets that are in demand for pet lovers.   Both can bring in a large amount of cash both during the faire and when it's gone for the month.

Mists of Pandaria is winding down for many players.  As more and more information is released about Warlords of Draenor starting to develop a sound strategy for investment for niche items such as pets will allow you to be ahead of everyone else on the road to Draenor.

Don't forget the today is Cyber Monday so there is a lot of opportunity to get players into the game from the start.   Blizzard is selling MOP and some other stores are selling the boxed set/battle chest for the same cost. This will be a great time to get your friends into your favorite game.
