Last week the first of the Sky Golems rolled off the engineering production line. Lets grind out the numbers from the undermine journal to see where we are at:
(Numbers from horde side of the undermine journal)
(I'm using horde side numbers but alliance side will be similar in this case)
Average sales (horde side) 106062g
Market Price (Shandris server) 65,000g
Think of that Average sale as the everything clicks just right and the right buyer gets an itchy finger absolutely wanting that winged wonder for their collection.
Later, looking through the numbers you can see
678 available (horde side)
This is across all of the severs. So there is a generous amount of these available (there is not a way to be able to tell whether these are flips or actually crafted by engineers. Let's assume 10% of these are flipped and the rest was crafted).
So you have 30 days minimum between crafting of these per engineer. The biggest question is should they be sold now or later?
Also don't forget to add that there are two pets (Pierre and Rascal Bot) which require half the materials to create. These two items are going to affect posted sales for the Sky Golems being crafted.
But for what has a cool factor of 10 and everyone was drooling over since it was rumored. Why are these not falling off the shelves in droves? I would propose that the majority of players who want them cannot afford them.
Follow my train of thought here. Most players have not the wealth that the upper echelon of gold makers have. They stumble their way around playing wow, scraping up enough to pay for a few odds and ends. Even with the gold pinata that is Timeless isle the majority of players are living paycheck to paycheck to borrow a phrase.
We have an example of this with the Mechano-hog sales that occurred during the Lich King expansion. For an item that had a minimum crafting cost of between 12-14k there were players that assumed these were easy to craft. So they would bid 10k.. 9k even to the point of people arguing they should be only worth 5k in gold. So now you have an item that costs 3 times the amount of gold just from the start to craft and add a minimum amount of time per each production. Players do not have the gold to be able to meet the minimum bar needed to purchase.
I have personally flipped two of these for a nice profit and purchased one for myself. Basically with the profit I made from the two flips I was able to purchase the third one. But why would I purchase these instead of crafting them myself (I have two engineers that have the pattern and have enough of the materials to craft it by themselves). Because in the short term the players that had enough money to buy them also had engineers of their own. So the first one that was produced went into their own collection. They didn't need it so they weren't buying them from the Auction House.
Obviously the undermine journal says that there are sales for the Sky Golems. So the money is out there. But don't be disappointed if your Golems aren't rolling off the shelves. These are high return items and shouldn't be discounted because you want your profit now. All that practice from flipping gems and gear will look like chump change when you get into this high cost bracket. People will start to discount their Golems for a quick profit. But I am still occasionally selling one of my Mechano-hogs (and have kept the materials on hand) even through two expansions. 10,000g profit now vs 50,000g profit later becomes a no brainer.
So as your flying in your new toy (and it is a blast) keep your head above the water and know your not alone in looking for the next golem sale. It will happen and you will enjoy rolling around in the gold.

As long as I've been playing World of Warcraft and making gold I've been a member of a guild. All of these guilds have been self sufficient in their personal crafting as well. If someone needed something crafted or needed an extra item it was generally either in the guild bank or someone would send it to you.
But at some point when your playing you might realize that you are putting more into the guild than the guild is putting into your enjoyment of the game. It may be a matter of no longer being on the raiding schedule because you aren't as good as others. It may be timing or even a personality conflict. This is a part of the Warcraft life in general. People come and people go because many times the friendships you have in a game are ethereal in nature. You are letters on a screen and maybe even a voice on Ventrillo. But that interpersonal communication isn't there anymore.
This is where a decision can be made in your gaming and gold making career. Is it time to leave for another guild? Or just to stay in the guild and be a guild member in name only. Call it being a mercenary of sorts that you accept the role of fill in when a member is sick. Can this type of attitude help to increase your gaming enjoyment even more?
I have been a proponent of taking your gold making to the next level for your own personal reasons. No one should tell you specifically why to make gold. They can offer suggestions on what your motivation might be for making large quantities of gold. Ultimately your own reason is what should be pushing your motivation to dominate a game or to stay in the background. Whichever you choose a big part of these decisions is what you do with your gold.
My own personal story has been laid out over the months I have written here. Making gold for my guild and providing what crafting was needed for others was a major motivation to play more and more. Once I stepped down as lead tank for one of the guilds and took a dps position my personal fortune was more focused on what I wanted. Which mounts and which pets were the most important to me. Still retaining my personal beliefs in selling to guild mates and my contributions to others. Changes happen to everyone the longer they play the game of Warcraft.
So as you see your guild winding down, with less and less people showing interest in raiding. When your position in the guild changes to second string or even follower it becomes time for a decision. Is it time to change your motivation towards the guild and become a mercenary for your own self?

Mommar here.
First I will apologize for the Quarter word (or is that two silvers word) in the title. But that describes the view I have from time to time having gold.
I"ve told my rags to riches story a couple of times here so I won't bore you with the details. The short version is that I started this game knowing nothing, stumbled, bumbled and made mistake after mistake to get to where I'm at now.
You've also heard me say time after time to find your own motivation. Whether you are the gold thirsty goblin that never has enough. Setting up your own goals to have every pet or every mount or own every piece of tier gear. Whatever gets you to roll out of the proverbial gold making bed that day is entirely up to you.
There is a catharsis to starting at a minimum and building it up again. There have been many players that have given up their vast fortunes and started all over for the challenge. Saluting them I know that the fallback position of having a large bank account has kept me from taking this drastic of a jump.
As more and more new toys and items are dropped for people and made more available in the auction house, there becomes a chance to decide whether that item is worth the time it took to make that gold. A farmer that ends up with 1000g a day is going to value each and every gold piece a little bit more than someone who is generating 10,000g a day. Each item becomes more or less valuable depending on the difficulty of obtaining it.
That same thought process goes to running instances and scenarios/world bosses to obtain items. Where you cannot truly put a monetary amount on how much those boots of awesomeness were, you can figure out a rough estimate of just how much time you spent to obtain them. And just how quickly they will be replaced by something much more shinier.
This doesn't mean that it's hopeless to buy things from the Auction House. Gold Goblins not only deal with pluses and minuses with gold. But also just how much they can save depending on the item. Have you looked to start a panda on a different server and then level them up to obtain the pets that are only available to them? You get the enjoyment of trying something completely new, and when you're done you can sell those pets for cash and prizes. How are you dealing with the greens and even the purples that you obtain from running low end instances. Do you just automatically drop them to be disenchanted, or sell them for a few rounds to see what you can get.
Whether you make an instant decision on value, or do a little research on an item. Just how much of a value an item has is determined by the vlue you have for it yourself. Keeping this in mind will help you price things better for mass consumption, or for that big sale that noone believes you could have made.

Wild Bill Mommar Here.
The cardinal rule of being a gold goblin is that everything sells. This is the basis of what many others and I have created our fortunes upon. Never has this been as obvious as in the opening zones of Mists of Pandaria.
Last night I started my number one farmer to work. She is a Skinner/Miner with decent gear, so I had no problem blowing through most of the mobs in the area. The part that I was noticing was that in the opening area just outside the temple:
Here was a plethora of mobs to kill and skin. Many of the Sha-Infested Prowlers in this area have a heavy repop rate. Being a member of a level 25 guild and the Bountiful Bags Perk I ended up with about 15 stacks of Sha-Touched Leather in my bags for less than an hours worth of work.
One of the reasons this area is very profitable for skinners is that many players don't have the skinning ability so they will end up leaving unskinned mobs in this area. There was some bad with the good in this area. It ended up where many of the corpses were unable to be skinned because players did not loot after they had been killed.
Also as your skinning in this (and other areas) there is the opportunity for Plump Intestines to drop. These seem to contain bonus coins from 1-2g (similar to the Strange Bloated Stomach that was skinned in Twilight Highlands.).
As a skinner spending some time in these small profitable areas for materials can be beneficial. Later on there will be less need to farm the Mists of Pandaria version of scraps for full pieces of leather. But with the market being hungry for anything necessary to level professions, getting these onto the market can be very profitable.
Good Luck and Good Skinning (and loot your mobs)
