Your Time if valuable. Whether you spend five hours a day playing warcraft, or 1 hour. Each minute you spend doing your gold making chores, raiding, questing, talking with friends or visiting your local Orgrimmar pub. Each of these tasks eat up your time.
Being a Gold Guru means to discipline yourself to try to make the most of your time spent. This applies especially to your normal daily chores. Each crafting item that you add to your listing causes you to invest a little bit more time.
This is where the idea of keeping track of your time becomes very important. Take a stopwatch, and use it to track where your time is used. How much time do you keep at the auction house. How much time is used questing. How much time is used to level alts. Now in no way am I saying you have to go into minute detail, but general numbers might give you an idea of just how much time you use in different areas.
After you have a healthy amount of data, you can do a quick analysis and see just where improvements can be made. Can you cut some of the lower selling items to pursue other avenue of sales? Can questing be more valuable to you than running dungeons? Or is everything your doing right now the best you can do.
Don't forget in your measurements to add enjoyment in the game. Yes, making gold can be fun. But running with friends can be just as enjoyable. Farming might not be the most profitabe at times. But it can be enjoyable to just farm and talk to friends over Ventrillo. The measurements really end up being based on your playstyle and the goals you have set from the start.
Tracking your play style can give you insight on just where you can incorporate small changes for big gold goblin rewards.

For those that have been gold goblins during more than one expansion, they understand the toils and tribulations of BOP crafting materials. It puts a damper on production for toons unless they are active in questing and dungeons. Items such as Frozen Orb, Chaos Orb and other BOP crafting items drove prices higher and higher. These Bind on Pickup items hit hard on players who used one or two of their characters the majority of the time.
In later patches all of these became Bind on Equip, but the first profits from the top were captured by players that were active. The new Bind on Pickup crafting item is going to end up being Spirit of Harmony. It's undetermined exactly how Spirit of Harmony drops (some have reported from dungeon drops, others from basic mobs). Either way it's obvious that the powers that be at Blizzard do not want their crafters to be sitting in home cities crafting without being active.
This is going to require an adjustment on your daily activity. By now you should already have a decent idea of which toon you want to level first. It will become very important to know which toon will allow you the most profit, while still continuing with your goals towards raiding.
Another option will be to look to drop a profession for another more active one. Jewelcrafting seems to be immune to the needs of a Spirit of Harmony. Blacksmiths and Leatherworkers will be in great need to obtain these items for epic pattern manufacturing. Planning out your strategy now will save you the need to change professions or options later during Mists of Pandaria.
A little paperwork and a little math will set you a long way towards using Spirit of Harmony to put you on top of the gold goblin pack.
Good Luck and Good Hunting.

Every so often I get a message while playing Warcraft telling me how much someone made from a sale. I've always thought it's important to encourage players to learn from experience and not just read words that are typed on a page.
But occasionally I will cringe when told what someone made from a sale. It becomes difficult to not mentally calculate how much an item is worth, and where it could have been sold for more.
Egotism tends to build in a gold goblin the more knowledge they have. Mental muscles get built with each learned ability, and the mental change in how to view gold making. It becomes more and more difficult to not kick sand in some peoples faces flexing those muscles and showing your expertise.
One thing to always remember is that one bad choice, one time you loan your account out to another person to "just look at something". One time you log into another computer without protection, and you are back to getting sand kicked in your face. Your inability to drop 10,000g on an investment becomes scrambling to find 100g to invest in some ore.
This is why learning not just the big investment flips, but also the basics can make things that much better in the long run. There have been many challenges from bloggers saying lets start a level 1 toon and see how much gold can be made in 30 days. I have gold guru friends that gave away a majority of their gold to start all over with just the professions and their wits. They loved the experience and enjoyed having gold that much more.
So the next time you cringe over someone elses success. Keep it to yourself, pat them on the back and let them enjoy their victory. They deserve it just as much as you do.
Good luck and Good Hunting.

The odds of winning the lottery is approximately the same as getting mauled by a brown bear and a polar bear in the middle of Iowa. It's possible if the right circumstances come together, but don't bet the farm on it idea.
I feel the same way about gaining that million gold item in Warcraft. Or even that 100,000 gold item. They are out there, but extremely rare being on the name tag should give you a good idea on how quickly it will be added to your inventory.
Gold goblins quickly learn one very important thing. You build your gold fortune in leaps, bounds, steps and even stumbles. It won't appear overnight, but it will happen if you work through your lessons that you learn here, and even on other journals. One person cannot cover everything (though I do give it a good try).
Making gold in Warcraft is truly not rocket science. You buy items, you sell items. The more advanced will craft items that players want in their collection. The even more advanced players will use other players gold and materials to craft items. These are simple lessons, but they are also the most important lessons you will learn.
So whether you want to be a snail, or a cheetah when it comes to making gold. You have to put your foot into the game to win. And you have to keep going with what you have learned, even if it isn't time to cash that lottery check just yet.
Good Luck and Good Hunting.
