Patch 5.2 Prep: Will players be returning?

The burnout of Mists of Pandaria hit much quicker than most expected.    Perhaps it was the huge amount of dailies that were seemingly required to keep up with the proverbial Joneses.   Or players running out of options after they had alread leveled one or two toons.     Older guilds seemed to be slowing down or even disappearing off the world stage.

5.2 is shaping up to bring a new spark to play.  With a brand new zone and more story lines those that enjoy reading the story throughout will be whisked back into a game that for many already became stale.

This is where Gold Goblins can look to take advantage again for players returning for another bite of the Mists of Pandaria apple.  Gear will again end up being important to get players raid ready as quick as possible.   And with the announcement that there will not be be the ability to fly in the new zone (everyone remembers Burning Crusade and the Blood Elf zones) it should bring a new burst of excitement for gear and enhancements.

If you haven't already started gathering and saving materials for your enhancement crafts,  now is an excellent time to get started.   From Belt buckles to leg armor to even gems,  looking for deals and ready to flip when the doors open to the new areas will put you on top of the Gold Goblin list.

More info gets reported with the PTRs,  and with sales of Raw gems stumbling now would be a good idea to look to get some farming under your belt.   Maxxing out your Valor Points will help to get you geared up quicker than before.   There hasn't been any announcement on points resetting (generally for the patches they do not reset) so making sure you're staying at the max (3000) and spending them accordingly will keep you in the game.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Old World Farming

Mommar here.

One of the most important parts of having a well oiled crafting machine is materials.   Many times it is easier to buy materials from the Auction House and craft items for a profit.

But as expansions start to grow older,   materials from those expansions become more and more rare.   After the surpluses of materials such as Netherweave cloth and illusion dust have been burnt through by crafters,  these items start to get a little bit more expensive.

As a gold goblin,   the words expensive can generally be turned into our favor.   Soloing dungeons in Burning Crusade or in Wrath of the Lich King areas are continuing to be profitable.   3-4 drops of green items for the non enchanter and cloth drops can add a hefty sum of profit.   Having a tailor available to make bags brings the profit margin even higher.

Most level 85+ toons can blow through Burning Crusade and Lich King dungeons without the need to slow down.   Classes with AOE attacks can make short work of these dungeons.   With the simplicity of group looting available looking large amounts of mobs takes a few seconds,  where before it took minutes to look for the sparkles on dead bodies.

So in your weekly search for materials,  plan a few old school runs for materials and get a jump start on your crafting profits.   And while your at it,   enjoy a few gloats of dominance over the bosses that gave you the biggest headaches.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

Explaining Mists of Pandaria In 5 Words

This weekend a friend of mine talked to me about how I thought Mists of Pandaria was turning out.  He had decided to take a little bit of time off for his family and friends.   Another friend gave him a 60 day card as a gift for some work he did,  so he asked what he was getting into.

I started to give him the unvarnished truth about how I felt about the expansion.   Including what I share here and all the other parts that I both enjoy and do not enjoy when it comes to the expansion.   He is familiar with parts of my history when it comes to the game as well.

Later after I finished my schtick on the pros and cons of MOP I wondered if I had been a good ambassador to the game.   It is still a game that draws me to play,  but it is far from the addiction that it had been earlier in my life.  Still drawn to gold making and to enjoying quests,  but partially retired from raiding.  All of these things wrapped into how I felt about the expansion.

Then I proceeded to believe that what were the main parts of an explanation of warcraft.  And just how far could that description be filtered down too.   Could it be lowered to just a few words

1:   Mythos

I believe that the mythos created with Mists of Pandaria is some of the best storytelling that Blizzard has come up with.   Not just the straight forward quest text.  But the Lorewalker mythos,  the factions tied together into a overall war between different belief systems.   The last time that Blizzard told an overall story like this was during the Burning Crusade expansion.

2.   Pokemon

There is no escaping the idea that one of the mini games is Pokemon.   This is one of those breaking points with a lot of players.   There are no requirements to be a pet trainer,  and it has absolutely no effect on raiding.  But for many players,  just the thought of having it anywhere close to the game they love is an affront to their gaming beliefs.

3.  Dailies

After reaching level 90,  Dailies become one of the big parts of many players lives.   Whether they are raiders,  or questers or like to sit around a home city and make bad Chuck Norris Jokes.   Dailies to advance in gear and in reputation are a major part of logging on every day.   With previous expansions there were multiple options to obtain reputation.   Token purchases,  dailies,  running heroic dungeons and even questing could raise most reputations to exalted.  With MOP,  you will do your dailies and you will like it.

4.  Scenerios

These were the masterstroke for Blizzard to work with both the casual player as well as the hardcore player.   Having a setup where all you need is to queue and wait for three players,  no tank or healer required has made queue times much quicker.   It gives a taste of structured dungeons without the need to beholden to a healer and tank to queue.

5.   Repetition

This is the bane of any game,  whether it's monopoly or the most advanced MMO on the market.  Once the shiny parts wear off of a game,  then you have the base parts that get replayed time and time again.   With 5.1 just on the horizon,  new areas will be open to combat the repetition that can plague any players gaming life.   Repetition can result in boredom,  boredom can result in players looking to other places for entertainment.

There are more words that players will use when describing Mists of Pandaria to themselves.  Some would use Savior,  others might use cursed.   Either way,  the way that we frame words to describe what draws us back into wow,  can do the same for others.  Or drive them away to do something else.

Leveling professions - Easysauce

Hello.  My name is Johnny Cash.

Ok,  so it's not Johnny.  But you have to admit he has an awesome name to use for an intro.

Veterans of World of Warcraft will reminisce about the good old days of earlier expansions.   Sometimes you will also hear the war stories of players who were with the original launch of the game years ago.

Even todays players who play the game between expansions will talk about the changes and the 'good ole days' of the expansion gaming when they started.  One of the most significant changes has been professions and how they are leveled.

The profession level and difficulty has become increasingly less and less with each expansion.

Vanilla Wow  - 1-300
Burning Crusade 300-375
Wrath of the Lich King  375-450
Cataclysm   450- 525
Mists of Pandaria  525-600

Each profession has added certain quirks for leveling (Cataclysm was the first one that required to open up a higher level zone to complete profession leveling).   But as the changes occurred,  it seems that the material needs to maximize profession points have decreased.

Take for instance Blacksmithing.   Using Kaliope's guide you need 12.5 bars of Ghost Iron and 1 spirit of Harmony.  Also included in this is the need to open of the Vale of the Eternal Blossoms  at 87 to purchase the PVP recipes.   This is the same mechanic that was used with the Cataclysm expansion to keep players from just sitting in a home zone and maximizing professions.

So what does this mean for Gold Goblins?   The easier that leveling a profession becomes,  the quicker that the profession can become viable for high end sales (PVP armor,  Epic Crafted items etc).   The other side of the goblin coin is that it makes for more competition.   Jewelcrafting when it first started was a rich goblins game.   Players had to invest a large amount of gold from the start to be viable in the market.  Now it has become much easier to be swimming in jewels and money.

So selection of markets based on the server needs becomes very important for your own personal cartel.
Looking at the auction house and seeing what items are listed can give you a good idea of what
professions have already become flooded.    If Jewelcrafters exist everywhere with overstocked items
on the auction house.  Look to maybe level your Blacksmith or Leatherworker.  In 2 to 3 weeks many
players will be looking to start PVPing.  And all of those will need starter PVP gear.   Perhaps you have
a stronger raiding community that needs to have potions and flasks at the ready.

Basing what profession to level is necessary to be maximizing your personal cartel profit lines.  A short
look at what is needed server wide can place more gold in your greedy goblin pockets.

Good Luck and Good Hunting

MOP Prep: Last Minute Shopping

Mommar here.

It's less than 24 hours before Mists of Pandaria open up the panda invasion.   All of the excitement of new lands,  new quests and new players to sell items too.

For the past months fellow gold goblins and goblinettes have been storing items for resell.   Herbs, minerals and all softs of other items saved in guild banks,  and personal vaults.   But the question this
morning were all the good things hoarded already?

Prices have been rising for many items in a combination of supply and demand.  Players getting last minute characters organized and not farming items for sale.   But it's not too late.  There are a few items that you should look to purchase today for big profits.

-   Maelstrom Crystals.

These have been hovering at the 40-60g mark for a bit.   Where their normal use has been for epic enchants,  Enchanted Lantern and Magic Lamp are still going to be in demand for pet enthusiasts and
pet battlers.

-   Low and Mid Level Inks

Each new player will want new glyphs for each of their characters.   Where the mass rush of Glyphmas part 2 has passed,  there will still be a demand for those inks from players not looking
to pay high prices for glyphs on the Auction House.  Look to be able to flip inks such as Lion's Ink
and Jadefire Ink for decent profits.    Look for deals on Blackfallow Ink especially to turn into the Ink
Vendor for different inks (make sure to do this before midnight when the ink vendor is expected to change over to Ink of Dreams being the trading currency.

Turn Ins from Darkmoon Faire

New players will be clamoring for many of these turn ins that can be obtained for low investments.   Picking up a few at discounted prices have the opportunity to offer good profits to shrewd gold goblins.

Mid level minerals and Herbs

Players are going to be going through leveling like never before.  Much of the old content in Azeroth,  Outland and Northrend will be lightly used by leveling players.  This means that many of the minerals
in these areas won't be as farmed as heavily as before.   Look for deals in Thorium and Fel Iron Ore to sell to Jewelcrafters

Common Gems from Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King

Jewelcrafting will still end up being the king of the money making professions during Mists of Pandaria.  So players will want to have their own Jewelcrafting business to rake in profits.   First
they have to level their Jewelcrafting profession.   Leveling Jewelcrafting from 300-375 takes many of the common gems prospected from Fel Iron ore (Flame Spessarite, Blood Garnet, Shadow Draenite,  Golden Draenite,  Deep Peridot,  Azure Moonstone).   These can be flipped from 2 to 3 times their cost
depending on demand on the server.

And one tip.

Don't get stuck into the one thought that only what the gold making journals have to say is the gospel truth.   Use your own judgement and what tools you've been given for logical thought.   You might see a quick deal that no one else has seen.   The auction house is a dynamic entity and can change at a moments notice.  Be prepared to be a Warcraft day trader and jump on deals in a moments notice
