Patch 4.0.6 is coming, some people speculate as soon as today, or next week tuesday so I thought, let me go review the patch notes and outline things that are being changed that are good/create good gold making opportunities, so I've made a list
- Mystic Cogwheel is a new Engineering Cogwheel gem which provides resilience rating and can be purchased from the Engineering vendor for 55 Honor Points.
- The Honor Commodities and Justice Commodities Vendors now sell raw tradeskill materials. These are not intended to be a cost-effective source of these materials, but an option for players with lots of Justice or Honor Points who have already purchased all of the gear that interests them.
- Illusionary Bag now has 26 slots.
- Volatile Air now has an increased chance of dropping from rich mining nodes and Pyrite with the Electrostatic Condenser.
- Three new enchants are available. They increase Agility by 50, Strength by 50, or Intellect by 50 respectively. Item level 300 or higher required. These new recipes are rare world drops.
- Enchant Off-Handed - Superior Intellect now increases Intellect by 40, down from 100.
- Vivid Dream Emerald (new gem) provides resilience/spell penetration and can be purchased for 3 Illustrious Tokens.
- Alchemist's Stones for Agility, Strength, and Intellect have been added. ( Each stone still requires 50 volatile life to craft )
- The number of herbs required to create flasks has been reduced, while the Volatile Life needed has been increased slightly.
- The drops from Tiny Treasure Chests have been improved slightly.
- Meta gems with the Chaotic and Relentless prefixes now have a requirement of 3 red gems.
- New meta gems have been added: Agile Shadowspirit Diamond (Agility/3% critical damage), Reverberating Shadowspirit Diamond (Strength/3% critical damage), and Burning Shadowspirit Diamond (Intellect/3% critical damage). These new recipes are unbound and can drop from any Cataclysm creature. The new meta gems have a requirement of 3 red gems equipped.
These are some of the changes being included in the patch. From what I see up there, I can predict a couple things:
- Volatile Life will be in high demand due to new alchemy stones & more needed to craft flasks
- Gems, specially red will be in high demand.
- Volatle Air will now be a little more common thus lowering in price.
- New Cogwheel = Gold.
- New Gem = Gold.
- New Enchants = Gold.
- There are new Meta gems, so raw Shadowspirit Diamonds will be in high demand.
- New Vendor that sell tradeskill materials so I expect some items to lower in price, slightly.

I took the advice that I have been seeing on here concerning Volatile Life and purchased almost 4k of them just yesterday from the Ah found them for around 4-6 each.
I believe I can easily triple my gold back in the next week or less.

"Enchant Off-Handed - Superior Intellect now increases Intellect by 40, down from 100."
Does this mean we should craft a supply of the +100 Intellect scrolls or will they all just be +40s after the patch?
Seems to me having a few of these around for sale later would be great gold makers if they will stay +100 Intellect.

The off-hand enchant will revert to 40 intellect retroactively. That's how all item changes work in my experience.
What are these three new enchants FOR? Rings? It doesn't say.

I doubt the scrolls will remain +100. I can't recall a time when am item was changed and ones already in game stayed the same. Not saying it hasn't happened, I just can't think of any examples.

I still haven't found any info on WHAT enchant this is, do you know? I'm thinking wrists or, maybe enchanter rings? The mystery!

The new enchants are for wrists. They are to make up for the fact that Leatherworking is considered an OP profession due to its choice of embossment enchant replacements. (i.e. +130 agility vs +65 Critical Strike

Hmm, first comment didn't appear here so I'll try again.
Another item mentioned is a new glyph for DK's. Glyph of Dark Succor. It was listed under the DK changes and not professions in the PTR Patch notes.

Exactly how many epics will be getting jem slots? How much increased demand for jems will this create on patch day?
Romario said... January 26, 2011 at 3:23 PM
The notes say most of the crafted epics will get a gem slot.
