Every expansion pack has new enchants. New equipment and new toys. Players leveling new toons, new professions and enjoying the old world before they reach the new world.
So a gold goblin has to return to what 'got them to the show'. Old world items that can be sold for a profit. Items that right now might be inexpensive for now, later to be sold for extensive profits. One of my favorites is the Essences used from 'Vanilla' warcraft.
Essence Of Air
Essence of Earth
Essence of Fire
Essence of Water
Essence of Undeath
Why are these so valuable? Enchants, Enchants and Enchants.
Players want the enchants for their low level weapons that these Essence items can bring.
Essence Of Air brings us Enchants 2H Weapon - Agility and Enchant Weapon - Agility
Essence of Earth gives us Enchant Weapon - Strength
Essence of Fire brings Enchant Weapon - Fiery
Essence of Water sets up Enchant Weapon - Healing Power
Essence of Undeath brings Enchant Weapon - Unholy
You might ask that there is easier ways to make gold. I have all of these shiny new patterns to play with. Why would I go and spend time grinding out essences for a few gold.
Having your gold goblin fingers in multiple markets gives you a heavy advantage over other Auction House players. Each part of your empire is created by even the little things.
This is also why grinding out certain reputations become very important now that the lull between expansions occur. Many of these enchants require high reputation with the Timbermaw Hold clan from Azeroth. The Wowwiki entry for Timbermaw Hold gives a very detailed grind to exalted. At level 85 the grind could take as little as 2 hours.
These essence are already rare due to their grinding spots. Fire from Ungoro, Air from Silithus. Water is farmed in Azshara. All of these from the elementals in this area. Even selling in raw form will reap hundreds of gold during MOP. Not a bad day of work on many servers.
Other old world materials will have the same demand. It's finding these gems that will put you on the road to truly being a gold goblin master.
