As a fellow human being there are times that I feel the need to step away from just being a gold journal and write about something personal.
Today most people will remember that we were attacked on our own home front and 2400+ people lost their lives. Where it is not currently a national holiday, this day is something that people will remember for the rest of their lives.
On the day that the attacks happen I was at my parents house. Having driven home from school to visit I had crashed on my parents' bed with the TV on (I drove after working the 3-11 shift). Half awake I saw what looked like a news report, including the first plane crash into the tower. My first reaction was that they had finally brought a Tom Clancy novel to TV.
Realizing that it wasn't a TV movie I turned up the volume and listened to the commentators. Many of them seemed to have no idea what was occurring and were in a state of shock. My mom entered the room and told me that the Twin Towers had been attacked and it was on all the stations.
Through the rest of the week there were specials, and interviews as the death toll rose higher and higher. It was a tragedy that even people not having direct connection to the dead could feel. The world's greatest country being sucker punched by terrorists.
Life slowly returned to normal, with less and less commentary on the disaster. And snippets of other news started to flow again. But every year we return to this event and remember what occurred.
Whether you're a Democrat, Republican, Independent or whichever party you choose to vote for. We can all come together for one brief moment and remember those that passed, those that survived and those people these events changed forever.
Good Luck and Good Prayers
